I'm not a C5 owner (YET!) but this is a dope video! Reminder to anyone doing this or the Harmonic Balancer replacement, you'll be in the same area of the engine so you might as well do both while it's open!
This was a great video my Man!! What you accomplished mechanically while filming. Impressive. Great accomplishment appreciate YOU going through all the extra effort to share it. I know the added complexities of doing a video on top of a major mechanical job/overhaul. Unique sound as well the startup was great. Sure that was a weight off hearing that too. Lastly, I like all your choices part wise. From what I know you should have zero reliability issues with the valve train/engine. Imo, fwiw, you reinforced or upgraded any potential weak/failure points w/The Ls. Much respect!!!
Good job man. Thanks for the video. I used a cheap harborfreight valve spring tool to do valve guides years ago on an LS1 and it pretty much only worked for that job. I dont think I would use it for another go around.
Good job brotha! Proud of you! Sub'd I'm running a 2.9liter whipple just put in long tube headers with xpipe. Getting tuned tomorrow! Might cam it later but gonna do wheels next. It's a pewter 02 convertible BTW.
@@HTPJay what the supercharger? I'll get it all sorted first, then put together a vid. Got buncha buds asking for a vid too 😆. Probably should do a channel myself but I'm too lazy to wanna film me working on stuff. I built up a 600hp VW R32T I daily. Fully built forged up internals 6266 dbb turbo. Smokes crotch rockets 😆. The vette was my pops gift to me but never ran right. Had knock sensor issues. I replaced them and am getting road tuned in a few minutes. I'll let ya know how it goes brotha😉.
I have a question and I know you did this a while ago but what parts do you have to replace with the cam in order for it to work? By the way sweet c5 it’s clean and sounds so good!!
Yo tell me ur on Los Angeles I got a stage 4 cam for my c5 mines is automatic though so Im prolly gonna have ta change the torque converter to a 3600 3800 stall so it can hold the power supposedly guy I talked to on the phone from summit racing 🏎️ said the car wouldn't start upon installation I have a hard time believing that I think it would start with the torque converter I have now but idk if it would stay on had no idea the details of installation u made it look easy af 😅
You have 2 options you can lower the subframe a bit to fully remove it out the driver side or you can slide it to the passenger side and let it hang out without having to remove it
how do you like the cam? been looking into this guy for logevity sakes on valvetrain? hows daily driveability adn how much did you lose of the cruising mileage?
Honestly drivability is not great it surges under 2k rpm when driving which is horrible on gas mileage because I have to keep it above near or above 2k
Nice work. I think I have seen top dead center method used when swapping springs so that the valves don't drop. Meaning you raise that cylinder to the top and then compress the springs so that the valve has nowhere to really drop. How many miles on your C5? I am thinking about doing a camswap this year and also running stock lifters. Any issues with them so far? How big is your cam and what lift?
Yes you can do tdc method as well. 174k miles so far no issues with lifters but I might replace them soon. Cam is 233/243 duration .541 /.541 lift, probably going with a bigger cam later on
@@JonnyAbs-0 definitely do not run stock lifters. A new cam needs new lifters so they can wear in together. Previous owner of my 01 z06 did a cam swap without doing lifters and I lost a lifter. Upon removing everything, lifters that looked fine had actually eaten away cam lobes because they are worn in to the original cam. To make it all more fun one of my pistons is a little melted and I’m in the process of trying to push it out from the bottom via removing the oil pan which is a project of its own. She’s been down for almost two weeks, hopefully she’ll be running well again in a few more.
Hey man, I know it’s an old video but I’m in the middle of doing a stage 3 btr cam and I’m unsure if I need injectors, just curious if you did Injectors and if you did what type and if not have you had any issues?
@@HTPJay I’ve seen multiple people say I need 42lb injectors but I’ll probably just call my tuner and figure it out haha. Thank you again man I really appreciate the response
Amazing, one handed install - impressive. I'd love to chop mine but way too involved for me. Well done she sounds fantastic. Cheers 👍🇬🇧
In the DW between 2 houses....PRICELESS! Nice work!
Thank you! 🫡
Nice job ! I love that cammed sound !
That was honestly a terrific tutorial. Well done sir.

I much rather take the heads off next time I was scared of dropping a valve
You guys made it look easy.
Lord that thing sounds mean! Great video! Gonna do a cam on mine pretty soon

Sound sick bro !!

great video.. very detailed

How does it run after being tuned?
Runs good there’s a few hiccups still need to go back to my tuner

A lot of camshafts come in a kit with springs because you’ll have your change those with a majority of camshafts
Good video.
Thank you
I miss mine. Shouldn’t have sold it
Get another one
I sold my 2003 Z06 back in missed it so much I purchased an 2001 convertible and it is getting getting cammed this weekend!

Yea, the new torque converter will make taking off from a stop easier

I really want to put this cam in my C5. Never driven a cammed car before, how is it to drive? Any other mods?
Taking off is definitely more difficult, I just have a ram air intake and long tube headers

No but I need to
Did you have to get it tuned to make it run ?

What front splitter did you go with man?

Do you regret not putting rtv on the timing cover bottom corners?
No, I actually replaced my oil pan gasket afterwards because the rear bolts were leaking
@@HTPJay I think I'm gonna send mine with no rtv as long as timing cover is lined up it should seal

Nooo 3 days lol
