Thanks everybody for watching. If you have any tips or tricks, please share below. Thank you to Scott and the rest of Team512 for allowing me to spend the weekend. Thank you to my wife for allowing me to leave for a few days.
@@lifegracefaith a cam is only good for 40-55whp depending on cam. A super charger/procharger definitely makes more power but its several thousands more than a cam. You still need to upgrade some of the same parts as well, so 1/2 of this work is repeated.
@@lifegracefaith that's awesome. Wish I had roads like that by me, but there's a cop around every corner instead lol. What suspension upgrades have you done? I was thinking of starting with C6 Z51 sway bars and C6 Z06 shocks. Don't think I'll ever need coilovers, probably won't need the C6 upgrades either but that's not why we do it lol.
The cam and tune will wake that ls1 up.. I have the BTR stage 4 cam with the RPM level 5 trans with a 2,600/2800 converter.. Google sweet Corvette on you tube it's a 30 second video of the sound.
THAT IS JUST ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. It's more than I want to tackle myself. I'm 70 years old with a heart condition. I wish I was able to do it. It's great to be young and fit. Take care of yourself and enjoy your Vette.
It also helps to know people who have the tools and means to do this type of project. I borrowed as much tools as I could bc buying it all would have negated almost all the cost savings. Still fun project and definitely need to be young. I still felt pains for months and needed to see a chiropractor afterwards 🤣🤣. Thanks for watching and commenting
It really wasn't that hard or overwhelming. The hardest part is of course getting the steering rack out, a helping hand for that parts makes it easier. Good luck and thanks for watching
Will the comp sense low/no oil pressure and shut off engine in these cars? Had a BBC drop the pickup tube while flat out in a boat once, lucky I like watching gauges and shut it down with no damage
👍 going to start my cam & headers swap today, getting the garage straightened up and the car placed for putting up on jack stands. Wish me luck. Oh, fantastic video guys! “Liked” and sure to be replaying it many times. Can’t wait to get her done, but going to enjoy this and have fun. My ‘04 Commemorative LeMans Blue “is” my daily driver 🥶
Quick trick with any tierods, the raised spot on the knuckle where the tierod goes through, couple taps of a hammer, it will fall out on a good day, and on a bad day one tap of the hammer on the nut like he showed and it will fall out. I hope I explained that good
Thanks for the tip. This whole install was definitely a learning experience. I never tried anything even close to this and now I'm confident to do many things.
Thanks man. It was certainly a learning experience. I've never attempted something that involved and it turned out great. It was also a ton of fun. Thanks for the support as always
Reliving the tear down through your lens was enjoyable. This is a nice step by step for someone looking to do a cam swap. Nice work buddy! When we swapping the heads?
This was definitely a fun process and can't wait for the next mod. Heads and converter is next, just don't know if your wife or my wife will be able to handle it lol.
Ha, ha, when I changed out my harmonic balancer, I had to pull out my rack and pinion cylinder and when i pulled the lines off and pulled on the tie rod it shot power steering fluid straight up and all over the place, lucky it wasn't brake fluid which is much more corrosive.
That's about right for actual work time. A lot of time was researching the next step and of course getting the power steering rack out of the way. Battling that took about 1.5hrs+ lol. I'd do it again and probably shave the whole disassembly to 4 hours or so.
Thanks for watching and the question. I believe it was 18mm, but if you do a quick Google search you should be able to confirm. We had a set of them so there was a bunch of sizes.
I responded to your other comment, but sometimes RUclips isn't good at notifying. I didn't pull the heads so I'm still on stock original lifters. I haven't done much research on upgrading them, but I remember reading a lot about LS7 lifters and Johnson lifters. I would look into it to decide what's best for you
I'm in Union Beach so not far. May have to check out your vert one of these days if you're interested in being in a video. Also pencil in April 4th in your calendar for the next meetup. Hoping to confirm the date in the next few days.
Nice video man!! Hey I'm about to replace the harmonic balancer on mine, its wobbling! Did you replace yours with a better harmonic balancer? I'm buying a cheap one, from Amazon I'm specting it to last at least 30k to 40k miles, just because is the oem one, what you think?

“I’m a fucking genius dude!” I swear this video keeps me laughing and semi sane through my cam swap process. Appreciate it boss
Haha glad it helped man. Fun process for sure.
The funnest part is getting the new oil pump on the pick up tube FML. Good job man
Thanks buddy. That pickup tube scared the crap out of me. It still does lol. I've never looked at my oil pressure so much before 🤣

Awesome work guys!! That lift is a lifesaver!!
Thanks man. The lift made even tasks so simple. I know it can be done on jack stands, but this was a life saver.
Wheres part 2??
Nice work guys!!! Great footage. You defnately have a talent for this..
Thanks buddy. We tried our best to show as much as we could. The assembly video isn't as good bc we just wanted it back together lol.
good video

Not bad at all. Gotta wrestle with the power steering rack, but that's the hardest part.

lsedanolg Are you going to tackle this job after watching the video?
@@lsedanolg you'll be able to handle it. It's a lot easier with a helping hand to get the power steering rack out.
How can I see part 2?
I knew someone in this group was a genius and I had my money on Scott. Yup Team 512 is an Fing genius. I know because I heard it in the video 😂
🤣🤣 that was bc it was later in the night after a few adult beverages

Really great video
Thanks 👍. This cam install was a fun time.
You forgot to show ALL the Wine drinking...lol
That type of sophistication took place after all the heavy lifting lol.
Sweet. Judging by this video, it took about an hour and a half to get the cam out :)

Good job bro
Appreciate it!! Actually wasn't too bad of a job. Little wrestling match with the power steering rack, but that was the only issue.
Nice work! I will have to do this to mine one day. Are you putting on ls7 intake and upgrading the heads while you are there?
Already have the LS6 intake since it's an 04. I plan on doing 243 or 799 heads in the future, just wasn't in the budget at this time.
@@YellowVette04 awesome! Cant wait. Keep up the great videos. Its a great help to us c5 owners to see all we can do to upgrade our cars!
I appreciate the comment and thanks for the support. I enjoy sharing my owner experience and modding as most people would.
Part 2 where you at?
No part 2 :(
about to tackle this on mine great vid. did you do any trans upgrades ?
I did not. I will at some point in the future. Good luck and you'll do just fine.
Great video but I was wondering what size crows foot wrench did you use? I saw a 17mm in the pic you showed. Thanks in advance!
Thanks for watching and the question. I believe it was 18mm, but if you do a quick Google search you should be able to confirm. We had a set of them so there was a bunch of sizes.
@@YellowVette04 Awesome I plan on putting a cam in my z this weekend and am trying to make it go as smoothly as possible lol
I hear you on that lol. Good luck with it. It's just nuts and bolts, so as long as you don't have any left over you'll be OK 👌
This CAM with stock converter? Jeez how did it behave?
No issues once tuned. Certainly wasn't fun to drive to the tuner lol.
Did you get new lifters for this install?
I responded to your other comment, but sometimes RUclips isn't good at notifying. I didn't pull the heads so I'm still on stock original lifters. great video. let me know when ur ready to try this on a white vert. I may know someone interested. :). did you do a stall too?
Definitely!! Where you at in Jersey?? I did not do a stall. BTR said it can be tuned without one, but I'll probably do one in the future anyway.
YellowVette04 I’m in old bridge. Couldn’t make your meetup in the fall but I had it on my calendar. Would love to meet up and hear your car.

Where is the step-by-step install video? The one showing how to use all those tools and how to put the springs everything back together?
Why did you decide to change the timing chain?
Nothing wrong with original. Just wanted to upgrade "while I was in there." I went with the LS2 chain which is a beefier chain.
Did the lifters need to be pulled?
No, I put the dowels in so the lifters wouldn't drop
Where did you buy the dowels from?
Home depot
@@YellowVette04 thanks man! One more question what break in procedure did you use after cam install?
@nachosilva3777 changed the oil after starting it up and letting it run for a little bit and then right to the dyno to get it tuned.
Nice video man!!

Did you replace yours with a better harmonic balancer? I'm buying a cheap one, from Amazon I'm specting it to last at least 30k to 40k miles, just because is the oem one, what you think?
I spent $200 on a Summit C2501 that should never fail. The OEM ones are garbage. Some last 100k+ and others only 20k. Luck of the draw i guess.
@@YellowVette04 is that the one with a keyway? Did you pin it?
@@livingchilling2217 it has a keyway and no I didn't pin in. Some guys put RTV in the keyway, but I didn't and no issues so far.
What headers are those?
Texas Speed headers.
@@YellowVette04 no wonder they look so good lol. Too pricy for me though :(
I've heard good things about Speed Engineering. For $500 or less you get headers and xpipe
