Have a gen 1 Sequoia that had similar issues with AIP errors. Bought a Hewitt bypass and its fixed everything. Been about 3 years with no issues. Hewitt bypass is legit.
Thanks for the detailed video! I'm a 1-and-done guy so much so, that I think I would just pay the cost for the OEM repair. I can't take that long to not be able to count on my 2016 4Runner 100% (ok maybe 99%). But if I ever have an issue with this and want to DIY the repair, I know where to go for the part!
Glad to help. My truck only has 50k miles so I was a little shocked at how quick this failed. The service manager said that the SAIS is the only Achilles heal on these. Once i tracked down my unrelated issue it has been flawless.
I had the P2441 on bank one (passenger side) in my 2017 4runner, this IS 100% covered by the manufacturer emission systems warranty as long as your vehicle is under 8 years of age and or under 80,000 miles which ever comes first, the dealer wont tell you that. I just made it by 2 months before my warranty expired and started throwing this code. I never had any issues before this or after the dealership repair, all is good for 2 years now and counting. I guess I got lucky with this issues timing. The warranty's wording online is very vague and doesnt specify which parts are covered under the emissions system warranty, also quick tip if you run a 1 inch UNI or a K&N filter on the pump it will void your warranty 100% (switch back to stock filter b4 bringing it to the dealer). And make sure they dont try to charge you for the diagnostics fee of $150 an hour shop rate, that is all included in the warranty coverage. There wasnt much info out there on the warranty specifics and the dealership wont tell you shit until you bring it into them and then they can try to weasel more money out of people. Hope this helps.
Tundra in limp mode, check engine light on, traction light on, 4wd lit, purchased hewitt 2nd generation bypass kit. After install it no longer went into limp mode but check engine light would come on and codes for secondary air pumps and air check valves kept coming up, purchased the addon kit, one for each bank (1 & 2) pressure sensor, it now works perfectly, passed emissions no issues! Totally recommend! If you replace air check valves and pumps you most likely will have same issue again and be back at square 1! Toyota engineers BLEW IT!
Thanks for this.Ig it can happen to any Toyota but I had the same problem.Bank 2 was stuck closed so they were like your gonna need a new pump and valves that’ll be 3300 dollars 💀. Gonna install this baby
Good eye. I’m blind at times and caught myself looking before I bought the bypass. Completely missed it. Anyway I don’t have to worry about the other side doing it and stranding me somewhere. Thanks for letting me know.
Just installed on my '05 sequoia and works great but now throwing codes about every 4th or 5th ignition start up. I just clear 'em for now. Not sure what codes they are as it doesn't go into limp mode.
Hope you figure it out. My problem was simple but had me really perplexed for a few days. Once o had everything squared away I was able to let it run for awhile and then codes thankfully never came back.
My 4runner has P2443 code. It runs normal it idles normal everything but i don’t know if i should just replace the secondary air injection pump or buy the bypass kit
Mine ran normally as well. I thought about doing just that, replacing the pump instead of the bypass. I’m glad I just bypassed it altogether. It’s a permanent solution and I would have been chasing ghost because I had a cracked hose that was causing all of my issues. The bypass is easy to install and if you have any technical questions they can get to the bottom of it quickly.
@ Purchasing the bypass kit now. I asked around in Toyota 4runner Facebook pages. Someone mentioned the bypass kit. After watching your video i was sold.
Glad to see rig is going wel, watched the entire suspension build! Any thoughts to why your SAIS issues started after your lift or purely coincidental?
I had a viewer point out that I had a cracked vacuum line in my sais system. I believe one of my helpers inadvertently damaged the line when we were removing the air breather box installing the snorkel. I knew it was something g simple but never saw the cracked hose. No regrets though this system works flawlessly and I will never have to worry about the sais in the future.
Good video. What year and engine is your Tundra? I just ordered the Gen 2 bypass kit for my 4.0 L 2012. I havent done any real auto repairs in many years since Im older and limited physically. So Im watching as many videos as I can while I await the parts. The Hewitt people are great to work with. Looks like I should be able to handle this with some good lighting and a step ladder. Thanks. Jim
Thank you. My tundra was a 2nd gen 5.7 this install was on my 4.0 4Runner. I think the process is really similar though. You can do it no doubt. It’s pretty straight forward. Thanks for the comment.
For anyone in Canada that ordered, were you hit with fees from Fedex? In the past, they used to charge 50$ brokerage fee for shipments from outside Canada.
Hi, did the dash warning signs stopped from coming on since the fix? I have exactly the same problem with my 2016 T4R and this video i stumbled upon in my search for solution. Thanks!
Absolutely. I have had zero issues other than my stupidity in the beginning. I have about 1500 miles on it since installing and no warnings or check engine lights. Highly recommend.
@@Wheel2LiveOffRoadabout how much did you pay for the kit? It seems very easy install. BTW I'm not noticing any unusual with my truck and I've been driving it for the last 2 weeks since it's my daily driver. Thank you again.
Primarily, i run all of my accessories off second battery. Keep the load off primary. Can use second battery to jump main start battery in the event it somehow runs down.
I would reach out to them directly. They do make a statement that these are intended for off highway use or competition purposes. Installer assumes all risks associated with its use.
Few. This is a known issue that is easy to diagnose and the fix is permanent. My D2 is held together with bailing wire and scotch locks but will start every time as long as the battery is fresh. Said it before, its the most reliable thing I own.

That’s awesome to hear. I have been super impressed so far.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. Agree, it’s a kind of a crazy design for sure. 👍
Thanks for posting. This is happening to me also. I might get the add on kit also. What year is your Tundra?

Great installation video. I noticed on the passenger side air vlave vacuum line is broken. A broken or disconnected vaccum will keep the valve closed.

This fits gen5 ?
Yes. They have options for other years as well.

These 4runners just have a lot of problems. Constant CELs after you modify anything.
