- Time for another expat life in Bahrain video! I've been living in Bahrain for coming up to 2 years now and you guys know that I love Bahrain expat living, but there are pros and cons to everything in life and there are some downsides to living in Bahrain. We've talked about living in Bahrain pros and cons before and today we're just having a lighthearted discussion about things I don't like about living in Bahrain as a woman and an expat.

This rant made me miss Bahrain, the royal mail here in the Newcastle and amazon prime is something we really need in Bahrain !!
Amazon Prime is the best! I miss next day delivery. Right now it takes about 7 weeks to get anything delivered to me here 😂
When I buy things from Amazon it takes 3 days only
I'm in Kuwait so it takes 4 minutes to Get to my house
@@AimeeRebecca first off, you can ship certain stuff from amazon.com or amazon.co.uk, or amazon.ae even, directly to Bahrain. Secondly, for the other stuff, there’s shop and ship from Aramex and then there’s EasyShop from DHL - never had issues, except once Aramex brought me the most butchered box! Thirdly, I’ve sent stuff using our post office and received stuff using our post office, no tracking, takes like a month but reliable and never had issues, warning though: they pretend to come to your house and try to deliver but never caught the postman at my door, always had to pick it up from the post office 😂

Loved the stories, so interesting and funny!
Thank you!
it depends on what price u have to pay to use the 10files and 5files, but also we just drop them in to one of those "charity coin collecters" and go about our day, but also if u collect alot of them and bring it to the bank youll get the money that u collected by dinars, so its not really useless
Lol...yet another great video! Appreciate the info as I gear up to move there soon.
Thanks! I'm sure you'll really enjoy it here.
Im planning on moving to bahrain with my girlfriend. But one thing im not finding any info on is tattoos. I can cover my arms and legs but i have tattoos on all my fingers and hands will this affect me finding a job?
Most of the people that visit bahrain or live here have always said bahrain is one of the safest and kindest countries, but i do agree on most of the things you have said, there are creepy guys here and there but it really depends on which area you're walking around in, but it still is no excuse, but thank you for this video! :)

My friend lives in Bahrain, I have her address but I have no idea how to write it on the envelope. Can you help?
Bahrain has a postal service. The most straightfoward way to get post is getting your own post box. I think the annual rent for then is 15 BHD per year. It is far more reliable than expecting them to delivery stuff to your door which is most likely never going to happen.
Thanks! I'll look into that.
@@AimeeRebecca do you pay rent for a post office box on a US military base? As alien, one is predisposed to think that the military would disqualify you from a franking privilege.
"5 and 10 Fils" you can use them when you go to buy from local breads maker "traditional bakery" if you have most of time "in-house dinner - or you may go to the traditional grill restaurants" which also called "Tika Kabab restaurants"

did you lose any hair in Bahrain or kuwait?
I lost hair majorly as an expat in another country so I'm hesitant it took years to recover it
My hair was really great in Kuwait, but it suffered in Bahrain. It didn’t fall out, but it got so badly damaged by the water that my hairdresser had to cut a lot off. It took over a year to get it healthy again 😳
@@AimeeRebecca woah, I wonder what the difference was. As far as I'm aware Kuwait uses desalinized sea water like Bahrain.
Well whatever had been told by Aimee. I am so proud of u for one thing that you talked here bout this reality for this is so true. Absolutely yes. Things get only changed when people minds are changed. Thank u so much for sharing such things to share out here. I am so shocked to see dislike much than like thats what i told u aimee all bout mindset. GoodJob Aimee.
About the school hours, you have to be in the school before the first ring is bell so you don't be considered late. And don't go to a school that very far from where you live, so you can go to the school like normal people (if the school is far from where you live and you need the bus then you will have to wake up very early) . If you don't want to be late to the school you have to go out before 6:30 because this is the time that everyone is out. And try to arrive to the school before 7:00. When I was in the school I was always waking up in 5:30 sometimes 5:45 then I go to the restroom after that I prepare myself before the breakfast after eating my breakfast I check if I put everything I need in my backpack (sometimes I do it before I go to bed) than I go out to the school between 6:15 and 6:25 and reach out to the school after 10 minutes or more because of the traffic.
The key is to wake up early and sleep early. I hope these tips will help you
Thanks for sharing your tips and experience! :)
Hi there! Thank you for your content. Can you tell me how dog friendly Bahrain is? I would like to move to one of the Gulf countries to teach English eventually but I won’t go anywhere without my dog! 😞 🐕 I know Bahrain is a lot more liberal and relaxed compared to some of the other gulf countries. Are there dog friendly places and compounds there?
I remember there was a lady in the building next to me who had a dog. I would always see her walking it around the neighbourhood so I think it must be fine. It might be difficult during the summer because it would be too hot to go out for walks, but other than that I don't see a problem :)
It's fine pets are fine we have per shops and vets and grooming for Ur pet that comes right to Ur door. Ppl walk their dogs in the street and lots of bahrainis own dogs and cats and birds etc....
Great video Aimee, I’d love more of this type of blog. Xx
Thank you! Will do! xx
We all get our post and parcels delivered all the time. The postal system is very efficient . I am amazed that you are having this experience.
My sister sent me a parcel from the UK back in November as it was my birthday. The stuff inside was quite expensive. I never got it!
You can use it in bread(naan)(kabas) shop, Bahrain post offices is the national post
Try the secret beauty salon in juffair mall on the 1st floor next to the mall entrance from P1 car park.
Thanks!
@Aimee Rebecca what kind of accent do you have?
I just moved here to Bahrain about a month ago, I got towards the end of the video and I was getting worried you weren’t going to mention traffic!! Coming from the US to Bahrain it is such a change to understand traffic and know to leave 30 mins early on the weekends. Great video!!
That traffic is wild! I hope you're settling in and enjoying your time in Bahrain!
Yeah! im a girl who has been living in Bahrain for my whole life, and i confirm, sometimes there are alot of traffic!
Come to Riyadh. Your tune will change real quick and you'll appreciate Bahrain traffic. Saudi takes traffic to a whole new level of dumb. One lane off ramp? No problem, let's make it two. Rush hour? Let's make it six wide to fit into two lanes (really one lane).
Bahrain is the best country in the world 👍🏼
@@tij4161 I thought it was Dubai
Now I'm confused 🤔 if they get mad about the 5 and 10 cents what are we suppose to do if an item is supposing 305 dinar like we give just 300 ?
Hey Aimee! I was actually so bored and was filtering if there are any vloggers talking about Bahrain. Been 2 years, dint make any like minded friends though!
I just found this video. Yes some things can be annoying here, especially traffic situation. I'm glad that Bahrain is such a simple and safe place though. I can assure you that the cat calling doesn't happen much in Bahrain, but only in certain areas. Sadly, it happens in some areas mostly by people who are not Bahraini. Regarding the post, I've lived here for well over ten years and never mailed anything. (Sad, right?) . There are post offices, but I've just never been to one, lol. If you order online, you will receive your packages though. We order stuff sometimes. There's FedEx, DHL, and UPS that work here. Fortunately, you can order almost anything locally now, via Instagram. There are people who order from overseas and sell here, they deliver to you house.
Agree with the cat calling! It’s a big thing there and it’s really horrible. I’m Muslim so I dress quite modestly and my husband is currently working in Bahrain so I visit twice a year, people do it even when I am walking holding hands with him. After eid prayer a couple years back, I had a headscarf and abaya on so literally covered! Walking with with my husband and it did not stop people! The first time I went there I went to carrefour/formerly Geant alone in the Bahrain mall and a car pulled up and the guy kept asking me do I need a lift and offering me to get in his car, I literally was like what are you doing and why do you think this is okay!!!
That is terrible! I can't believe they do it when you're with your husband! The guys offering lifts are the worst. They pull up sometimes and say, "You need a taxi?" and I'm like, "You're not a taxi driver!" They have no shame!
@@AimeeRebecca oh my goodness! The taxi ones! it's really bad! Do they think we will just be like yes please! And hop into a random car 😂
Right? I wonder if that's ever worked for them 😂
Hey girl ❤️❤️❤️ glad you’re back at it again! I was curious if you had any American contacts you could link me to?
Yes I do! I'm so sorry. I kept meaning to get it to you, but if I don't write something down then it falls right out of my head! Do you have an Instagram account? I can DM it to you.
YES! Omg you’re amazing thank you so much!! @goodlooks78
Ooo insta friends ????
@@Reem-fr3un Insta friends for sure! I'll send it over to you :D
That cat calling would really bother me too. It doesn’t really happen where I live but I am living in a rural farming community in Wisconsin. Or maybe it’s because I am old now! Hahahaha. School here starts before 8 and the kids get out at 2:50.
Haha not at all! It doesn't happen where I grew up either and that's a small town. It's very over the top here! Oh wow. That's a long day too. I guess I took the 6 hour school day for granted when I was at home.
@@AimeeRebecca And then there are after school activities on top of that long day as well! My 12 year old son has to stay after school an hour each day because he doesn't do his homework and has a TON of late work. He was put into an after school group to try to help him catch up.
Great video , there's no objection all the fact true 💎
Regarding the 5 and 10 fils coins I agree with you it is stately the market use these coins, but if you insist to use it no one can say the opposite , usually people use 5 and 10 fils in traditional bakery
Bahrain has postal services but they don’t deliver it at your house door they call u from post office and u pick it off
Only if she chose postal delivery
I totally agree with the traffic, I always leave early for everything I do just to avoid any bad traffic behaviour.
If you have 10 and 5 fils coins, accumulate them in a jar, then every 3 to 4 months, you can take them to any hyper market and exchange them for notes Dinar.
Thanks for the tip! I'm definitely going to start setting them aside.

Do people take the change to the bank?
1.Ummm my school starts at 7:30 but classes start 8:00 and ends at 1:50 im in high school.
2. The traffic is ok its probably because the area you live in is conjested so yeah i mean never had trouble with traffic or wierd people in riffa so yeah.
3. The mail can sometimes be wierd but not always.
4. Fives and tens are a bit useless but you do sometimes need them i mean i used them many times.

Uhmm for me my school starts at 7:45 and then ends at 1:40 (in bahrain).
For the 5 fils & 10 fils .. when a cold store cashier give them to me , I keep them and I use them at the same store within few days and if he wants to say anything I tell him I got them from him two days ago! So he takes them ... same thing if he give me Saudi money I return it to him in few days. 😂
Excellent commentary, is exactly the way it is Bahrain
I used to hate the school timing a lot when i studied there
You can buy a piece of subsidized bread by 20 Fils( 2 coins). You may also visit small groceries to use your small change. I too much understand your point about traffic and postal system. Please enjoy bahrain.
You can just normally to use 5+ 10 in for buy a Bread and in submarket the pig store
We Bahraini's appreciate your channel nothing but love ❤️
Thank you! ❤️
i’m bahraini!!!
hello!! Aimee
As a local I can help you with these following few tips:
-Firstly, for the coins (5's and 10's) am telling you will get more of them; however, you should keep some with you when you are grocery shopping, so you can use them if your bill was for example 910 fils, then can use the 10, doing that will minimize the chance of getting more of those coins :D.
-Secondly, as for the mail the best solution is to signup with Shop and Ship service provided by Aramex, (45 USD paid once) where you will be provided with 30 P.O Boxes around the world including the US, UK, Japan, China, Australia and Canada, so you can use one of those addresses when shopping online and the your packages will delivered to your door step (4.4 BD for the first pound and 3.3 BD for each extra pound); moreover, each package will be provided with tracking number.
-Thirdly, about the cat calling it bothers me too because it gives my lovely country and the people a negative image, but you did the best thing which is ignoring those rude persons.
-Finally, School hours, ahh I know long hours, I just with if they can adjust it one day, I remember when I was at elementary school, on the way to school, I used to snore at the back seat of the car haha.
I wish a great life here in Bahrain!!!!
Thanks for all your super useful tips! I really appreciate it. I'm definitely going to look into getting one of the those PO Boxes. That would be really useful. I fall asleep on the way to school and I'm an adult so I can only imagine what it would be like as a kid! 😂
I think the cat calling and all is mostly done by Saudis
I live in BH and it's not just the cat calling it's the cats in my backyard there was a cat and her baby and they was under my barbeque for the whole day literally I hate cats they just jump between backyards

Bro I from Bahrain but if you see this Bahrain school begins at 7 am ends until 3pm now 💀 used to be 2pm to end 😩 but now 7 am to 3 pm
We use BD5 and BD10 everywhere. Fils, 10Fils and 20 Fils are used to buy local bread
thank you
as a matter of fact i dont have any excess 5 and 10fils. ive used them all. unlike 1p in UK.
Don’t forget salad chips
ikr i dont even USE 5, and 10 fils :/
Correction
1. Small coins mostly we give for charity. If you noticed the small boxes next to the cashier almost everywhere.
2. Schools timing is following the 8 working hours a day rule. And we need the afternoon for our social life which is very full comparing to UK or USA.
3. And I mean no offense here . But uncovered women considered dirty by majority. In a way they dont care what u do but they dont accpit it also. And yes the only bahraini will hit on you will those looking for cheap sex.
4. Post offices are working fine if get yourself a post box . As in bahrain houses are loaded with like 15 human in one address . So the best way is to send notification to reach nearest post office to collect whatever u want.
5. For traffic. Just ask locals . We have shortcuts
elementary schools are from 7am to 1:15 pm. primery schools and secondary schools are from 7am to 2:15pm
Hi I'm moving to amwaj islands in Bahrain next week can you give me any tips or an idea about life over there?
It's fine for the most part. I just recently moved there. It is quiet and a bit far from the city. But for the most part life is cool.
It's a really beautiful area, but you'll need a car if you live there because it's a little way out from everything and getting Ubers from that part of the island is a challenge. It'll be a nice place to live though.

Hey, i hope you are doing well and having fun in our lovely country. I agree with you the traffic sucks at the weekends, avoid Al-Fatih Hwy and Saikh Khalifa bin Salman Hwy whenever you can -even though they are the closest to Juffair-, instead use Shaikh Isa bin Salman Hwy and don't be intimidated to drive, just avoild the left lane and keep in the middle, drive safe and have a good time.
Thanks for the advice. That's really useful to know!
Where I grew up in the United States we had school from 0730-1530. It sucked but middle school 830-1630 and elementary school 0900-1700 so the busses wouldn’t get overwhelmed cause we all shared the busses
I totally agree with the school part, I hate how early schools started (before the pandemic) because I would have to wake up at 5 am to get to school at a reasonable time and it’s just so annoying.
It's such a long day!
Nice video
Hey have you ever been to india?
i like the fact that schools stop at 2:30pm. it gives kids a chance to see daylight at home.
probably you are getting cat called because you are living in Juffair, Juffair is like a big brothel.
I hope my government improve those points you talked about ☺️
do u know public school start 6 and we wake up 4 and 30 morning and we finish 3 but arrive home 4 and 30 ahahaha
That's so intense! I wake up at 4:30 and get home at 4:30 and it exhausts me as an adult. I can't imagine doing that as a kid. It's so intense!

So about the first problem u said about Bahrain the coins that are useless were used back in the day and since it was a old thing Bahrain didn't get rid of it so even though its useless it was helpful back in the day
i personally love alraonaq salon in sanad , i've been going there when i'm kid till now it's the best salon i go to
Thanks for the recommendation!
Interesting video! It's a similiar situation in KSA. Can you drink the tap water in Bahrain because you can't here, which I find so strange. Not to mention environmentally troubling, given how many plastic bottles I use up per week.
Tap water is too salty to be drunk over here.
We have a big water dispenser in our kitchen to limit the amount of plastic we use, but it still really bothers me. I especially hate going out for a meal because I know when I order water it has to come in a plastic bottle and it makes me feel so guilty.
T. Anderson no you can’t drink normal tap water in bahrain but you can install a filtered water tap from any water filterstion company
You can have a water filter installed from one of the water companies; the same companies that being the water for your water dispensers.
Not schools in Bahrain are 7 am-3pm cuz my school starts at 7 and ends at 1 or 12
Are u still in Bahrain
Hello, I am bahraini and would like to tell everyone that about the coins they each have different value so for example you will need five 10cent coins for a 100cent, hope this clears up all that:)
Some people in this comment section are very biased and ignorant. She clearly said she loves living here and only stated things she doesn’t like about it. I’ve been born, raised and still live here, yet I agree with her. Stop being so close-minded

I grew up in Bahrain from 1970 my late dad lived there for 32 years the post has always been bad and in over 52 years it’s still the same. Sheik ESA Bin Sulman Al Khalifa the late Amir really improved the island, when I landed on the 17th of August 1970 at 4am there was not even a proper airport. Customs was a hole in the wall at the end of exit, the causeway into Manama was old and the RAF was there not the American Navy happy days 😊

It doesn't matter what you're wearing - harassment is harassment. It's not weird, it's atrocious. How did you cope with it?
Lmao the five and ten coins talk had me rolling 🤣 🤣 🤣.. I'm Bahraini n I'm telling u.. we only use these to buy bread from local bread makers because they're the only ones who'd accept them.. As for ordering online, I order online all the time from amazon, shein n all kinds of shops n my packages arrive with no problems whatsoever through DHL or Aramex.. N trust me Bahraini drivers r actually very safe drivers n we have strict traffic laws! But as u said when Saudi ppl come here then every man for himself.. When I actually see someone driving crazy I immediately look for the license plate n yes 97 percent of the time it's a Saudi plate 😂😂
Aramex is pathetic with customer service, im sorry. Their online portal is pretty useful but also limited. When contacting their support they dont read the dam question and they reply to you with some template. Your query is not really considered which is a shame.

Hi Aimee, I love your channel and I’ve been following for a few years now. I’ve visited both Kuwait and Bahrain quite a few times as my god parents lived and worked there for years. The cat calling is so bad but as a teenager I remember sort of loving it 🙈 but now I would absolutely hate it. The worst thing for me is the driving! Absolutely awful. Worse in Kuwait though. Other than the cat calling, the driving and the heat I absolutely love both countries and hope to go back again one day. X
Hi! You’re so right - the driving is much scarier in Kuwait. It would be nice if you got to visit again one day. I think it’s nice to go back to places that have such good memories ☺️

I agree! I tried sending a package to Bahrain from the US in September. The package finally was delivered after 63 days .
Is VPN leagel?
Heyy dear .. i am bahraini girl and my friend he have a business online ... there is no issue in delivering or sending items to other countries by aramex... and it always be delivered within a week .. And about those creepy guys i guess every country there is creepy guys! Even in every family! U cant find a family like everyone are lovely.. i am sorry if u had these bad experiences but on my opinion Bahrain still better than other countries in salaries and taxes and bills also the rent!!! Plus Bahrain is a tiny island but with big hearts.. we never had a problem with black people or other religions like is happening in some countries Who claim freedom of thought..
I don't think on salaries..rent and taxes .in other things Bahrain is good .so you got some of your facts wrong .and plus the hard labour done by expats and the low salaries been paid off to build the expensive projects..there are a lot of flaws in the management department and in the business field..I think you forgot the high mincipality and electricity charges being imposed on the non bahrainis..with the low income salaries how is it manageable for these people to live here
.it's pretty easy for you to say all this without any actual real life based info from them people who are going through such scenarios..
Sorry there is no freedom of speech in this country but only freedom of thought which is applicable in all countries in the world...freedom of religion is allowed in bahrain which is a plus point here which makes Bahrain a good middle eastern country in terms of practising your religion..but there is slight racism and religious politics in the country..but it's something we as human beings got to deal with in the right ways .if we follow the rules and the laws and go through proper channels..we can tackle these people and issues through the right system.
