    It's odd how when we talk about those of us from the "west", moving to countries in the "east" we describe ourselves as "expats", but when it's the other way around we use the term "migrant worker".

    • @AimeeRebecca
      @AimeeRebecca  3 года назад +5

      I wonder if it has more to do with the country the workers are living in. When I lived overseas, myself and all of my co-workers were referred to as expats, no matter where we came from. Now I’m back in the U.K., I still work with people from all over the world, but everyone is referred to as a migrant worker. That’s just my experience so I don’t know if that’s the norm. It’s interesting though.

    • @MisterBurtonshaw
      @MisterBurtonshaw 3 года назад +3

      @@AimeeRebecca Indeed, maybe the recent political climate in the UK has made us use the "migrant" term when talking about other country's
      nationals. Maybe we should describe ourselves as such?

      I'm a teacher so that makes it quite easy to travel and find work. I 100% wouldn't recommend going into teaching for that reason though. But if you do move to Bahrain, you don't need to know Arabic. A lot of people there are expats and English is widely spoken

    I lived in Bahrain many years ago and loved it. The ruler was very progressive and did a lot to improve the welfare of its people. However, after he died I heard that things changed for the worse, I had returned to UK by then but did see videos of protesting and unrest. I’m assuming things are better now?

    I've been watching your videos recently as I'm a ("westernised" for better or worse when it comes to that term) Bahraini who will be moving back to Bahrain in September after living in London for the past few years. Your videos have nuanced my homesickness and I think paint a very vivid picture of what Bahrain is like, but from the perspective of a migrant. Having been a migrant in the UK it's interesting to be able to compare your experience to mine. Great videos 🙏❤️

    Foreigners pay water and electricity bills Because their salaries are much higher than the citizen. And their companies pay their expenses.Not like a citizen with little pay and debts.

    Yes in Saudi Arabia, I also have the issue getting paid on time. I had the same issues in Turkey too. Best advice I can give is don't live month to month and you won't have to worry about it.
    As far as charging foreigners more, this is common practice around the world, perhaps Bahrain is doing it more than others. However, if they keep doing it then they may suffer the consequences inthe future (many expats stimulating the economy by being overcharged will leave).
    For now I choose to stay in KSA due to a higher salary plus everything besides food is paid for so no need to worry about those overpriced utilities :D

    • @AimeeRebecca
      @AimeeRebecca  4 года назад

      That's a great tip. I never counted on getting my salary on time so always held some money back just in case! I hear there's a great quality of life in Saudi Arabia!

    • @khaledba-awad6290
      @khaledba-awad6290 4 года назад +2

      Add this that utilities are same for all people inside Saudi Arabia including water & electricity ,,, the only thing that residency permit is increased as well as VAT

    • @AimeeRebecca
      @AimeeRebecca  4 года назад +3

      Of course! A lot of restaurants offer a Friday brunch here where you pay a set price and then all your food and drink is included for 4-5 hours. They usually have entertainment like a DJ or a band. It's a lot of fun!
