    Thanks for reviewing the Mac Mini for streaming. Exactly the review I was searching for. I've subscribed & look forward to more of your reviews.

      Hi! Thanks so much for subscribing - I'm so glad you found it helpful. I've pivoted the channel recently to more Christian content rather than tech reviews, which might not be to your tastes. Either way, I appreciate the comment and again, so glad you found this helpful in any way!

    Hello! Do you need the 16 gb version of the mac mini for church streaming or will the base model be sufficient? Thanks!

    How's the support of OBS to the M1 CPU now? Is it reliable especially for windows capture? From my experience, performance of OBS on mac is always inferior to Windows. (On the same macbook pro I have (intel based), it performs so much better on Windows bootcamp.

    Hello! I just bought a GH5 and was looking at the Mac Mini as well...Your video was outstanding and really catered directly to me :) I want to record straight to the Mac Mini using multicams and seems like OBS is the right fit to do that but I notice small hitches or frames dropped when you were using OBS to record vs. the memory card. Did you notice that too? I wonder what that is about...

    • @davebetts
      @davebetts  3 года назад

      Sorry for the slow reply! Yes, I definitely noticed that too. However, it's hard to know how much of it is a genuine hardware issue or just me not setting OBS to the best possible settings. I'm always trying to improve here!!

    Hey, Dave. It’s my comment about NDI. On this channel I explain how to use NDI in production. What software did you use on Mac mini to stream?

    Dave, how did you get your lyrics onscreen using Proclaim? I didn't know it was possible!

    • @davebetts
      @davebetts  3 года назад

      Hi Bradley! Short answer: with a bit of trial and error! Longer answer:
      I've found two different ways to do it so far. One is software dependent and the other is hardware dependent:
      *Disclaimer: we used two computers for both methods*
      1) I used the OBS NDI feature. Then I set up a new screen on Proclaim that pointed to the NDI (through the display settings) and luma keyed - I think - the black background. This worked for words, obviously, but was no good for individual slides. So I ended up having tons of scenes within OBS, which wasn't great for volunteers. I wanted something much more simple to use, and less likely to break.
      2) Now we use something called an Atem mini. It has four hdmi inputs. We use three cameras, and then for the fourth input, I ran an HDMI cable from the presentation laptop to the Atem mini (which is connected to the streaming computer). Then I used the built-in chroma key feature on the Atem. This is a bit more of a pain for setting up Proclaim, but during our meetings it works a treat!
      Does that help? I'm actually planning on making a video explaining it in the not too distant future, but if it would be helpful for you, I can aim to make it asap! Let me know.

      @@davebetts Thanks so much for your quick reply. A video soon would be great. I haven't found anyone that has explained it well. We are currently using the app Switcher on an iPad, but are looking to upgrade cameras and systems - debating hardware vs. software for streaming, etc. Thanks again!

      @@bradleytrosen It's a privilege to be able to help! I'll see what I can do. It's a hectic week but might be able to get something out by Monday. Apologies for shameless promoting my own videos here, but at our church we've been on a real journey in the last year and found that a great cheap option is the Canon HF R800, and our current middle-priced option is the Canon G50 (I've reviewed them both so you can see the quality there if you like). If you've got a large budget, the Canon XA11 is great too.
      I'm pretty sure my email address is on my channel homepage I think. I'd be more than happy to talk in detail privately, too. If there's any way I can serve you, it would be my pleasure!

    HI. I have two questions. What is needed to get the video-out signal from the Black Magic switcher into the Mac mini? How do you get an audio input to the Mac mini since there is no mic input to the Mac?

    • @davebetts
      @davebetts  3 года назад

      Hi! The switcher comes with a USB-C to USB cable that will do the trick. Alternatively, you could run an HDMI from the switcher's output and use something like the Camlink 4k.
      For audio, we run a usb cable to our mac mini from the sound desk. But this could work with a regular aux output from the desk to an audio interface too.
      Does that help? Let me know if that's confusing!

    Do you happen to know if browser sources work well in OBS for Mac on the M1-platform? Currently debating getting a Macbook Air M1 model, and this is the only thing I'm unsure about.

    • @davebetts
      @davebetts  3 года назад +1

      Hi! Really sorry for the late response - I've found that it works really well, but we use it for really simple, low key chats. Especially with the new OBS 27, things seem to be working very well. Hope that helps!

    Use ecamm live. You will thank me later. Skip on obs except if you need it for ndi

    • @davebetts
      @davebetts  3 года назад

      Thanks for the comment! I'd love to hear your thoughts as I've never used it - why do you think ecamm live is so great? We don't really have much of a desire to pay for a solution when OBS is pretty good. What can it do that OBS can't? Have a great day!

    • @iMaxN
      @iMaxN 3 года назад

      Yep, i would suggest the same, try Ecamm Live. It´s more about the easieness of streaming than doing things OBS can´t. I think you can do the same things with OBS but in a smoother way. I started with OBS too and switched to Ecamm because i didn´t want to manage the encoder settings or bitrates or theses technical things. Ecamm handles this for you and it works. This are the biggest points for Ecamm, i think. But if you love to do all the little settings on your own, go with OBS, you can´t dive so deep into the settings with Ecamm.

    • @davebetts
      @davebetts  3 года назад +1

      @@iMaxN That's really helpful, thank you! I actually do quite like jumping in and doing all the technical stuff now. I definitely didn't, but I'm just about getting to the point where I think I understand it!!

    Do you have any solutions for why recording with the Mac mini doesn’t look smooth, compared to recording to your memory card (if you look at your video comparisons, you’ll notice). I have been dealing with this for the past several months. I have tried it on a MacBook Pro, 27 inch iMac, and the M1 Mac mini. A bunch of different OBS settings. All the same results. They always record choppy. Maybe it’s a Mac thing? Thanks for the video!

    • @davebetts
      @davebetts  2 года назад

      Sorry for the slow reply! I don't have any solutions, unfortunately. If I had to guess, I'd say that it might have something to do with the hard drive write speed? But honestly, I have no clue!

    Hi, Did you start using NDI in your production yet?

    • @davebetts
      @davebetts  3 года назад

      Hi! Yeah we used NDI for a while to send the content from our laptop to the OBS on the Mac, and it was great, but because we'd had so many problems in general with live streaming I chose to focus on hardwired stuff only for a bit.
      I'd like to use NDI for an additional cam at some point though!

    • @wonastudio3724
      @wonastudio3724 3 года назад

      @@davebetts oh, I see. Yes it does bring some unwanted stuff to process. However I like the cost reduction. You save money on sdi-HDMI converters for cameras and set additional 1-2 cameras on WiFi with phones. And with SRT you can control and stream over larger distances making a master control studio.
