I was so sad watching the season finale. This show was so good that I didn't want it to end.
Me too i also want the movie to have sequel too
Me and my dad just finished it and I’m so sad it came to a end. I look up to Malina Weissman so much and I never wanted the show to end.
Same
Kit’s death scared me
I loved the show so much that I legit finished in a few days. Season 3 was just so sad, especially the ending. A lot of the scenes made me wanna take lemmony’s advice and actually look away but I kept watching because it’s such a good show. Why did it have to end
The actress who plays dr orwell in the tv series is the same actress who played justice strauss in the movie
Catherine O'Hara.
Ha
wHAT
ye
Yea Catherine O’Hara she was also in schitts creek
There’s no contest.
The series not only surpassed the movie, but improved on the continuity of the novels as well. It’s nearly flawless.
Arcadio Castellanoz Your Wrong, the show is not flawless, it’s very cartoony and the humor is exaggerated with Olafs dumb disguises and silliness in every scene. It focuses too much on the humor and not the mundane anyways. The movie doesn’t have as much humor and focuses on the mundane.
Replace Neil Patrick Harris with Jim Carrey in the TV series, then it would be flawless. The movie didn't have enough depth for Jim's Olaf given the screen time allotted.
Stuart Sisler Both kinda suck actually
@Shravya Nelson Well what language do you speak?

Little Presley Smith as sunny in the show is the CUTEST!! She wins!
I was astounded that they actually were able to film all three seasons without changing Sunny's actor. And yes, she is super cute :)
@@charlesajones77 Well besides season 3 the first two seasons where just a year apart, with the 3rd being two years apart
No duh

Oh yeah.
The cast of the series was diverse and brilliant - every actor made their character stand out. But.... Can we talk about Lucy Punch as Esme Squalor because she was phenomenal. Funny, scary and talented.

The tv show is million times better than the movie as it sticks to the books more, spent more time on the storyline and the acting is better in the show. I find that Malina, Louis, Presley and Neil so much more interesting and entertaining. Also because the film didn’t get a sequel but the show got two extra seasons to finish the books points to the fact that the show is better
Film didn't get a sequel cuz it's based on only 3 of the books, show got 2 extra seasons cuz it is based on all the books, 2 episodes per book
The movie was planned as the first of many sadly it bombed at the box office and/or was criticised so no further movies were mage.
I agree ALOT the kid that played as Klaus was a absolute BRAT, he also looked like a little Anikan Skywalker
Abby Dixon the film was also commissioned before the book series had finished though I think that 'what will happen now' vibe at the end fit especially well with the story m
not really as they removed death of people that should have died in certain books
When they revealed Lucy Punch as Esmé, I was kinda dissapointed. But, Oh God I'm glad that she was Esmé. She was totally perfect for the role
It was the opposite for me. She wasn’t who I pictured per se, but when I heard her casting, I was on board.
I love the way she says "sugar bowl", lol

That's how i felt when they said NPH was playing Olaf. Never been a fan of How I Met Your Mother, and was worried he would ruin beloved childhood memories. I couldnt have been more wrong! He was amazing!!
as a kid i used to rly like the movie, watched it probably around 5 times but the tv series really beats it even just because the humour is sharper, they make all sorts of references which are alwasy fun to catch, the characters feel more alive and even if they did change a few things i loved how they expanded the storyline and the world presented in the books
I'm currently reading the series, but I watched the series on Netflix before I watched the movie and I felt that they rushed the ending of the movie.
The 2004 movie only covered the first 3 books (i had to double check to be sure), while the Netflix series covered all the books. Hell, with 25 episodes (two for every book plus 1 episode for the 13th book), you got 12 whole movies with the 13th being the short film finale. So that's a big advantage the Netflix series has over the 2004 movie.
Yeah, why not compare it just with the first season. It’s not the movie’s fault the sequel was scrapped.
MasterJunior93 the 2004 movie was supposed to be the start of a franchise
12 movies are hard to make and will cost to much money the characters don't age so the actors whould have to replace
@@inkheart151 this is just a guess so please don't hate but it was prob scraped because maybe not many people liked it for one of the reasons I personally love the tv series way better
@@Kai-ro3xq That's okay. I did hear that the script was having a lot of problems, which is probably why they got rid of it. Still kind of sad though. Like, what were they thinking about doing? I want to know!
the show is a Very Funny Drama
I see what you did there.
*VFD who?*
No, it's a series of Violence, Fear, and Death.
Yeah your right
@@MasterJunior93 and funny drama
The show can be a Very Funny Drama, but is also Very Frequently Dreary.

Interesting, all the hate against NPH or Jim Carey is just absurd. Both versions are great, no other statement is needed. Both brought their own unique twists that the other can not do, but both would not have been if it wasn't for the comically tragic books.
Yeah
Different audiences likes different things I like the Netflix series but still Jim Carey was a good actor
Jim carrey's version was a lot more terrifying but he can still be funny at the same time. Neil patrick harris version is lot more rough, more human, and even sadder. I actually like both versions cause they really managed to make count olaf interesting in their own way. Props to both actors for doing such a great job
i agree
Agreed but the best version of Olaf is Tim Curry from the audiobooks. He's amazing!
nph was perfect as olaf & patrick warburton was an extraordinary lemony snicket, the tv series clearly wins for me
Same
Same
jim carrey best count olaf.
One thing’s for sure,
Lemony Snicket: Warburton>>>>>>>>>>>Law
I didn’t know until recently that it was Jude Law in the movie
Hell yeah. The first thing I said when I started the series was thank you for Warburton's Snicket
I thought Law was good personally. It's just that he was mostly just a narrator while Waterburns snicket was like an actual character.
Pull the lever, Kronk!

Did... did she say the TV show feels more... Ernest...
I found this to be a Very Fascinating Discovery

Very - V, Fascinating - F, Discovery - D?

😂😂😂
It's an unfair fight. I just finished watching season 3 and loved it. The TV show has more time, so it's always going to win.
But also the movie just completely misses the tone. Count Olaf is just a complete buffoon in the movie, and there's little to no self awareness in the movie's writing.
Whereas the TV show absolutely nails Count Olaf (managing to be intimidating but still ultimately stupid) and finds the perfect balance between self-aware comedy and mysterious drama
Wilo Polis EXACTLY! Finally-someone who agrees
I was about to lose my mind if they said that the movie is more accurate to the novels than the show. Thank goodness I kept watching lol
Tv should win for me
But really it’s the books
Also thanks for the likes!
Kids Filming the series and the movie suck
Books are better
Thx for all the likes tho
Yas da books
The books> everything
The TV series wins by a long shot. I love Jim Carrey and Meryl Streep and the actors in the movie but the TV show is so much more special and amazing.
OfficialGregG The Movie and The Show Suck, the books are better
Deuce Lassiter there all great
Deuce Lassiter in your OPINION. Don't say things like that out loud bc it could hurt other people's feelings, I personally like the series and the books but please remember if you wanna say your opinions out loud say them in a respectful and nice manner.
The movie was more great looking and the acting is amazing
Carrey is a comedian and his role fits perfectly
I agree
I personally LOVE the movie. I don’t care if it doesn’t fit the actual mood of the book. Grittiness is just something I like.
lance1920 u probably haven’t read the books
Same but I saw all 3. I read the books, watched the series, and the movie. I honestly prefer the series but we all have our differences. The funny thing is tho is that my teacher got me into the books and I was searching a random movie or Netflix and both came up and I immediately clicked the series
They only covered like 2 books though. Tv actors way better, in my opinion
i honestly thought the movie fit the tone better than the show, the show tried too hard to be funny when the books aren’t that funny?
TV series was better, great story, but messed up ending, I think I could've wrote it better, no offense but just pure admiration for Lemony Snicket.
The show is so much better in so many levels. Warburton's snicket is iconic and so is Neil Patrick Harris as olaf
SERIOUSLY?!, Patrick Warburton fits the comidian role better, and( you can call me me out for being a Jim Carry fan all you want) the 2004 movie version of count Olaf was without a doubt entertaining, if I was running the Netflix show, I'd keep both of the movie actors to play their original roles as Olaf and the narrator from 2004 into Netflix or just keep Jim Carry and settle for Orlando Bloom to play narrator, their voices are sorta similar
100th like
@@nicholaswelch7483 The narrator? 100% not. Patrick War Burton's deadpan is 10 times better than Jude Law.
Nicholas Welch Neil was a thousand times better. Jim didn’t even play count Olaf he just played himself dressed as Olaf and some of his actions did not fit at all
I hated the first season because I kept comparing it to the film, but the second and third changed my mind completely!
Don't compare everything😊

@@b_dolojonelsonjr.675 Facts!
Sorry but I gotta say. Obviously the tv series did it better. Mostly cuz they had more time to do the whole series. Rather than cramming it into one movie
Facts of it were reverse the show would've still one
The problem is, they never would have been able to do 13 movies and still have the kids be young by the end.
They could have done like four films, with the first one being the same one as the 2004 film, comprising of three books, and the next film comprising of lucky smalls lumber mill to azapkatraz elevator (sorry idk how to pronounce it), the third film being the final few episodes of season 2 and all episodes of season 3 except for the finale, with the fourth film covering the finale for season 3
They couldn’t do the miserable mill because Klaus didn’t wear glasses.
I like the TV Show. After all, it is a SERIES of unfortunate events
Yes!
I get it.
Both were amazing.
Things I found different were;
In the movie, whenever Sunny would bite something, it looked more realistic, and everything was accurate.
In the show, everything was still very well-made, and it was still very modern looking.
Felt like the movie knew it wasn't going to get a sequel. So they just did whatever they wanted without every really picking up one of the books.
It literally only covers the fist 3 books dude
There was going to be a sequel but it was scrapped
@@tsmk4262 ye but only 3 the series covers all the books but I agree the movie prob saw the books but I prefer the series
I didn’t watch the movie but goodness me I love the TV show: clear tone, matches the books really well and I don’t mind the changes and Neil Patrick Harris, K Todd Freeman and Lucy Punch absolutely outstanding in their roles as well as the teenage actors including Malina and Louis and the girl who played Carmelita.
Kitana Turnbull was pretty amazing as Carmelita, she makes you hate her within about a minute of her being on screen but you still find yourself laughing at her and wanting to know what she’ll do next

One thing I love in the show is how you can’t tell what time period it is. Is it the early 1900s or the late 1900s who knows and that’s why I love the show and I wish the could’ve continued the show so they could expand the universe and that’s why I would love to live in their world
Narrator "there are 14 books"
Me "mam there are actually 13"

2. The reptile room
3. The wide window
4. The miserable mill
5. The austre academy
6. The erzast elevator
7. The vile village
8. The hostile hospital
9. The carnivoras carnival
10. The slippery slope
11. The one with da submarine ( I can't remember the name)
12. The per somthing peril
13. The end
13 books not 14
The one with the submarine was the grim grotto
The final epilogue chapter of The End might have been considered the 14th book, though Idk if that’s what they meant in the video
I find that Harris is one-note as Olaf, not having near as much range as Carey. I also saw the movie before reading all of the books, but in the way it’s presented in the tv series, the stories seem very bland to me....I think the more monotone delivery and dulled colour palette, along with Harris not being able to scare me in the way Carey did, is what makes the movie better to me.
Alyssa Parsons idk like I loved the books so if ur gunna base a movie off of books u should do it in the same order and the movie didn’t even say the words VFD which is a BIG thing in the books
the tv series was very thorough with covering the whole plot
with the first point, if you look closely, the baudelaires are always brightly dressed while their surroundings are grim and dreary
Jim Carrey is Count Olaf. I can't see that role played by anyone else
Michael Tru-Blu I'm gonna say this in the nicest way possible. He was played by someone else. Neil Patrick Harris
Michael Tru-Blu haha that’s exactly how I feel but the other way around.
Yes the movie is the original..and nobody can equal Jim Carey's acting..so as the casting of the movie..no comparison even if there were more allotted time to make the tv series..sorry but the movie 2004 is more more perfect..
As someone who has read all the books, the movie is very entertaining and Jim Carey is great but the series is like 100 times better it is way more accurate the actors are better and the movie had a messed up order and it was all wrong. Don’t get me wrong I do still like the movie but the show is so much better
Not even started watching and I know it’s the series
I prefer the series only as I think Neil is amazing as count olaf and sunny in the series is so cute and played by only one girl. I think the characters look more accurate.
I love the show. I was so sad when I watched the last episode. I couldn't believe it was over.
The show was soooo much better and it’s not a question. The show is a fantastic masterpiece. One of the few adaptations that are better than the books in my opinion. And I love the books.
The tv show is way better and actually took the time to give all the information which is amazing and will always be my favorite and it’s way more scary then the movie
Alexandra Esquivel Disagree Its better but less scary. Neil even is funny in the scary scenes and Jim is pure evil in them.
Do Hoeijmans are you kidding? NPH Olaf is way more ruthless than Jim carries, remember that scene where he threatened Violet in the hospital, that was chilling
Glad this video was finally made! I love both NPH and Jim Carrey, but I will always prefer Jim Carrey's rendition more. I felt like NPH wasn't necessarily acting... Aside from the murderous rampages, Olaf kinda just acts like NPH, while Carrey felt like its own unique character
It's funny because I always say the reverse. After the first book's adaptation, where I agree NPH is just playing himself in some scenes of part 1, and aside from some slip ups in the wide window, I always forget he is the one under the make up. Carrey always does something to remind me. Whether it's his expressions or stuff like the dinosaur scene.
When I was watching the movie I couldn't keep Jim Carrey seriously because i've seen him in So many comedies and i found it so funny. But Neil Patrick Harris was a little bit more convincing as a evil person. BUT really I can't take either of them serious lol
That dinosaur part always makes me laugh.
Jim Carrey’s Olaf making fun of Sunny was pretty funny.
This show is a masterpiece in my opinion. I loved the books when I was 10 and I continued to love it as a tv series AND a movie as a 22 year old. Great cast, directing, and production team on both sides 👏🏼 Thanks Lemony Snicket aka Daniel Handler for this wonderfully dark series.
The tv series is much better. NPH is much scarier as Olaf, Violet, Klaus and Sunny's actors are better and more believable, better cinematography and the film was too rushed
Daniel Loughins better cinematography? Wtf
I discovered this fandom through the TV shows so I am forever in favor of them
I gotta pick the movie over the show just because of the tone, the music, and the design. The sets and costumes were darker and more detailed when compared to the series. Don't get me wrong, I love the series. It's accuracy and humor cannot compare to the film and you can tell everyone's having fun with it. Nevertheless, the film has a Very Fascinating Design--especially the credits.
I would have drank some coffee while watching this video, but I can’t seem to find the sugar bowl.
No one can find it.
My softball team actually had an argument about which of these was better 😅
I agree with the tie between Jim and Neil. They were both perfect for that role
Yes!!! 👏🏼👏🏼
Jim carrey much better! full body acting.
@@BabyAmmA23 nah man Neil did an amazing job, really charismatic as the character. It’s a tie
NPH did the terrible actor stuff better than Jim did. Jim’s a little too good whilst Neil is constantly making little mistakes as Olaf like dropping his voices, forgetting his character’s name and getting too confident that he comes off as unconvincing

I can’t believe they’re even comparing the TV Show to the Movie! The TV Show is literally 100000000000 times better!
Lukas Cornine No it’s not, the show is too cartoony and bizarre compared to the movie.
You ain’t no critic
Deuce Lassiter, the show got renewed for more seasons, but the movies were quickly scrapped after release.
Lukas Cornine Clearly that doesn’t matter in critique
Lukas Cornine just because the show had more of the books doesn’t mean its better
Why is nobody talking about how Poe held up one of the books from the series
heavenly.melanie when?
No it wasn’t it was a trick he held a fake book called
A series of fortunate events
No it was “pony party” but I see where you’re going, it was purposely made to look like the ASOUE books.
The cover of “the pony party” was actually used for “Lemony Snicket, the Unauthorized Autobiography.” If you flip the original cover inside out, you’ll get the fake “pony party” cover seen in the tv series. It was used as a disguise for the book.
I know the series is more faithful to the books as I have read them but, I prefer the movie. Characters are more realistic. Olaf for example hits Klaus and, realising it could ruin him, makes an excuse. As Stephano, once Sunny reveals the Deadly Viper to be kind, Stephano runs. Mr Poe’s stupidity is believable and, he is shown to actually care for the kids. I think the more realistic and dark atmosphere of the movie does it for me
Same
Also I think the movie has the wrong time period which is Victorian but I think it is more inclined with the show which is more the 1950s
True! After reading the books I thought the series was much more accurate.
I was two when the movie came out I think I watched it when I was four and that was my favorite movie as a kid. Although the show is good and really goes along with the books, I’m more attached to the movie.
The Netflix show became one of my favorites. Yet the movie did have very well special effects. It was very well done with its limitation.
I vote that both are great adaptations of the Very Frightful Days of the lives of the Baudelaire Orphans.
I love how u started ur video just like the books
I remember being frustrated at the actor who plays Klaus in the movie not putting on his glasses most of the time...
wt me too, especially because in the books if he looses or doesn't wear them he literally CANT SEE!
the Netflix series Olaf looks way cooler and badass
My favorite show we needed a season 4 😭 but I know it won’t happen
Right!!!!
No, never! It ended when the books ended and the only reason it was so good was because it stayed true to the books.
Maybe they could do a spin off on the Beatrice letters
It may
I grew up on the 2004 film and fell in love with it. The soundtrack, the cinematography, the costumes, the overall gothic tone and the fact Tim Burton and Crew who worked on Sleepy Hollow worked on it. So much so, I have been working on creating Violets costume that's taken me years on and off so far. I'm glad the series finally got to be completed and seen, but I miss the aspects the 2004 film had. I'm aware Snicket narrates throughly throughout the stories, but during the show it's just too jarring. That's what dissapointed me. The film shouldn't of put three books into one film, biggest mistake they made. I personally would love to see an animation series in the Tim Burton/Guillermo Del Toro Style which was supposed to happen after the 2004 film, but sadly fell through.
I loved both versions they were both very well done and close to the books
before watching
THE TV SERIES WINS
After watching
YAY THE TV SERIES WINS
Yes, honestly I knew it was going to win. Not because it is better well maybe in my opinion but I read the books and it seems much more accurate.
I find the movie vastly superior in every single way, it has better tone, better aesthetic, better acting and better comedy by far. The only reason the tv show "wins" in any category is because it had more time to develop and adapt each part of the story and that only goes to say that tv show is a better media for the story, but i had completely forgotten i even watched this whole show and now that i do i still remember nothing from it, it was boring and unremarkable most of the time and the one thing that kept me going was my love for the books and curiosity to see scenes brought to life and... to be fair, i don't really remember what my favorite scenes from the books looked like in the series at all, it was very forgetable, the two things i remember are that there was some gay stuff that got me hyped and Carmelita Spats shoving her face in a cake. Carmelita and Esme were great, tho, I don't remember scenes, but I remember they were both spot on and delighful. Anyway, it's a shame, 'cause both the movies and the books are super memorable and dear to my heart.
You don't come across such amazing shows very often I literally cryed a little once it ended I didn't watch the last episode for like a month just because I didn't want it to end
This was an unfair comparison in my opinion. :\
I agree. Less than 2 hr movie of 3 books (done better than the show for me) vs 3 TV seasons. It should be movie vs series season 1. I would choose the movie honestly. Season 1 was not even close for me.
Tim Newman Gaming if they were going to compare the show to the movie they needed to cut down the show to only the first 3 books and took into consideration that the movie was only 2 hours long. The movie did its best and was great at portraying the first 3 books!
Jim Carrey is a great count Olaf no one can ever recreate him in a movie
In my opinion I think the show much much more better than the movie
Back when I was a kid, I love unfortunate event movie especially Klaus because I have a crush on him and I watched the series on netflix too but I'll vote for the movie because that's my childhood.
I only hope that they actually finished all the books in the movie. I woild like to see their own take to the book series
I cannot stand Neil Patrick Harris as count Olaf, with Jim Carey he could make the count scary but with Neil I cannot feel fear even if I tried.
Yeah ikr
I beg to differ
The tv show is more of a comedy in general the film is much more serious, I don’t think it can be put down to Harris’ portrayal alone it’s a combination of everything which is why they can both be entertaining, they are just so different x
I disagree, I think about that but Vise versa. I still think Jim Carey did a good job tho
The reason why you felt that way is because the TV show was actually made for kids in like kiddo family-friendly so that's why he wasn't you know scary
As a kid, I loved the books and when I watched the movie, I was sooooo disappointed by the movie. I love Jim Carrey, but I wasn’t blown away by his performance. I love the tv show, NPH made me smile and also uncomfortable. The tv show made my younger self extremely happy. The tv show wins over the movie.
Yes, Neil was amazing! Jim is an amazing actor though and I love him but that role I don't think really was for him.
I think that on almost or even all aspects, the movie and serie are equally awesome, but in their own ways.
Coincidentally, there’s a girl in my class named Presley Smith!
I find the tv show better since it has more of a story and also shows a good side of count olaf
And cmon its neil
IKR!
I preferred the Netflix version with Nellie Patrick Harris I just feel like he is funnier and has more sarcasm
Yes! He was so good!
Omg I’m literally watching the first season right now 😂😂😂

I wanted to make a VFD joke but I couldn't....
Jim Carey's Olaf is scarier
happy pandas TV show is better for 10 year old kids because it is less scary and they brought comedy to the scary scenes. The movie is much darker. I like both, my kids like the TV show much more.
He is more of a comedian. But I think we can all agree that in the TV show Esme was hilarious and might I mention.Very dirty minded.

I'm biased, but the film will always win for me
Ditto, while I liked both, there's just something about the movie's whimsical universe that never fails to suck me in to the story.
Sorry but that's *incorrect*
The film is too rushed for me
Same here. I’ve read quite a few of the books and I’ve seen a little bit of the series, not enough to really judge. But I absolutely love the art style of the movie and the actors and the whimsicalness of it all. I think the aesthetic of the movie and the form versus content is absolutely gorgeous.
late_ honey you are incorrect
I like the movie's steampunkish style more and absolutely adore Meryl Streep as aunt Josephine. Jim Carrey's Olaf also fits a tiny bit better when it comes to looks. Gotta love how he's so tall and lanky while Neil is more of normal height. Carrey also feels a bit more intimidating to me, but I can't really put my finger on the reason why.
The movie's downfall was combining 3 books into one movie and changing some tiny but crucial details, like not giving Klaus glasses for some reason. I know a movie series of about 12 movies would've been way too much, but combining 2 books instead of 3 into one movie might've worked out, if they intended to adapt the whole series.
I think the movie was good on its own. I liked that it was more focused on the darkness of the story rather than the humor. The original story has some parts that are simply hard to digest. The easiest example is the marriage scene. In the movie it literally gives you chills. But I think the author wasn't going for such dark direction anyway. The TV show was much better than I expected
