'You never love a book like you love a book when you're ten years old' - which, as coincidence would have it, was exactly the moment when I discovered the works of a mysterious and melancholy sort of individual called Lemony Snicket. I didn't know at that moment that I would soon sign myself away to a life of practising, and learning, and refining, but never quite perfecting, the art of penmanship. I did know that the book I held in my hand was about to change my life for the better. Thank you, Daniel Handler.

Same. I searched the library looking for something to read and my 5th grade teacher recommended the first book and it's always stuck with me. Actually several of the books from that time, Red Fern Grows, House on hackman's Hill etc.

Amazing discussion! Daniel Handler is by far one of my favorite children’s authors. His writing inspired me as a child and continues to this day.

I remember when he would pretend to be lemony’s “representative” for interviews to keep the mystery of the author this was cool to see very informative

This was amazing! Genuinely wonderful to find out that he speaks with lemony snicket style mannerisms - all the interesting and funny little asides during a larger story. Really excited to check out more of his work, series of unfortunate events was such a huge part of my childhood

I would highly recommend "All The Wrong Questions" it has a slightly different tone than ASOUE but if you enjoy slow burn mysterious and well developed characters and Mr Handlers previous works I see no reason why you wouldn't enjoy this 4 book series.

30:08 Hearing Daniel Handler bring up Stephen Merrit is just the best! We all wish 'The Gothic Archie's' songs were integrated into the Netflix show.(I agree with Daniel. Some changes they made in the show were fun, others weren't.)

This man made reading so enjoyable for me when I was a kid and teenager. Bc of him I became enamored with literature and reading. And helped me cultivate my imagination and it was always ‘funky’ and strange bc of him he taught me it was OK to be weird. He means so much to me and I am so thankful for him.

It was one thing to berate the work of a political org you don't align with, but the jab at the right wing women was beneath who i hoped 'lemony snicket' really was as an author & person. Not impressed by who he is in real life; you can see the arrogance & pride waft off him at times during this Q&A. This was quite the let down...
