Ok I need some help. I have a leak in my power steering somewhere. I put fluid in my reservoir & noticed it leaking out & as I attempted to turn my stiff wheel. What do I need to do to fix it before having to replace the whole rack & pinion? Thanks for your help

I have a 2004 Chevy silverado 2500 HD. It has 65,859 miles on it. My gear box was replaced about a year ago. Recently, my pump was leaking so it was replaced. After it was replaced about a day or two later my steering wheel is not whinning, but it growls when I am idle ans turn left. Nothing when I go right. If I am in park and I turn the steering wheel the noise is very faint or sounds more normal. My wheel bearings, ball joints and control arms were replaced within the last month as well.
Steering wheel does seem more stiff turning left while turning right is smooth and easy. Thoughts!?

I love these small lessons from from 1A Auto. How do you diagnose a hard electric steering turning left and allowing the car to warn up the steering wheel gets really stiff?
After driving a while it's free again, should the car stand still for about five mins in traffic the steering gets stiff.

It's probably my pump, I repaired a leaking fluid line, afterwards my power steering got tight at idle, it turns fine above 3000 rpms. I flushed the fluid and have no leaks and no noise when I try to turn the steering wheel so I'll assume the pump has gone bad.

Check the reservoir return port, GM has a screen on them and they plug. So take it off and blow it out or replace it before you go for a pump. It causes a wine and loss or power and acts like a failed pump. Don't forget to bleed the system afterwards to get the air out before you call it a failure.

Could a seizing power steering pulley bearing cause an alternator (driven off the same belt) to provide inadequate voltage to the vehicle electricals? My lights are flickering and I know that my power steering is seizing up.

Power steering is not smooth. Can it be the pump or the rack?

Thats just of many of a common problem with most of GM vehicles after they've reached a several thousand miles.
I know this because I am a GM only kind of person. I have already owned in the past most of the many different types of a GM made
vehicle's, and previously I proudly own another one of a GM SUV.

I’ve never had so many issues with my front end and steering components until i bought an 03 GMC Sierra 2500HD. It’s currently in the shop now due to a bad power steering pulley, after already replacing tie rods, pitman arm, steering box to rid the crazy slop. Hoping this is the last issue for a long while, the Duramax motor and tranny have been great

We're trying to find the issue with my cousin's f150. The steering wheel is hard to turn at idle, but as soon as you move it forward/reverse, it works. Also the liquid in the reservoir is milky white. Any ideas?

I have a question. My car's steering wheel is making a low growling/screeching noise when i turn to the left and the car is idle and i also hear a slight whinning sound when the hood of my car is up and engine turned on could this be a sign that my power steering pump is going bad?
