Damn. At first I was thinking the steering wheel would take the drivers head off and then the whole compartment was squashed anyway so there's no walking away from that one. Just makes you realise the horrific scenes that first responders have to attend to.

they didn't have the technology to design cars to withstand accidents like today. It was in the late 80's early 90's that they could begin to crash test cars in a simulation(using computers) as CAD technology came into use, then try different designs to get a better result. That's why cars are so much safer now as well as airbags etc.
