I was getting homesick for some reason today. Then I saw this. My home town. I was thrilled to say the least. Planning on spending some time there this summer. This is great to see. We lived on Coconino Street in Grandfathers house. I got all moochie seeing downtown, San Francisco Street. The sign for Babbitt Brothers Sign. 😎Cool. Can't thank you enough for this.
Flagstaff was the friendliest place I ever visited in my trips out west. Got stranded in a snowstorm there, eating at a restaurant and the waitress said if you don’t want to sleep in your car you better go get a hotel room, and I did! Great time, great shops and food and a pretty place full of nice people! ❤

I Lived in Flagstaff and went to college there years ago and from your video it hasn't changed a great deal. I always loved the great hikes in the area and fishing in the mornings before class. I live in Canada now because I am a Canadian and it was nice seeing the place again.
There's been a lot of growth just outside of downtown. Downtown is crazy crowded in recent years, it's obvious he was filming in early morning before the swarms.
You played it perfectly, Norwolf. I went to College in Bellingham, Washington. Also gorgeous, but am marooned in the USA, a Nation in tragic decline. Note the prices of homes, the basis of stable life is unattainable for most. You will be at peace up there, but America will be in Revolt. . . .
I stayed there at the beginning and end of my Arizona trip last year. Very nice place. The bar there seemed to be THE happening hot spot in town, and open late.

In the mid 1970's I spent a few weeks at the Air Force's Fort Tuthill campsite, adjacent to the Fair Grounds a little South of Flagstaff. Really loved the place. Back then it seemed it was mostly college kids and cowboys around town, which I found sorta nice since I was 25 at the time. I do remember it didn't mess around with snow there and we received 14" overnight once. I always thought it would be a great place to retire but I ended up in Alabama which is a little friendlier financially.

Loved this video and our plan is to visit here..I had no idea how cold it was there,I always thought Arizona was warm.. ! I held my breath watching you two walking that ledge.. Funny thing tho is you walking in front of Nic instead instead of behind her in case she slipped..Looking over those cliffs had my heart in my stomach..The church was gorgeous and I also hope they fix it up..The bill for your food,wowza.. That one drink was $45!! But what we always say, cut the bill in half as we always have leftovers..Safe travels to you both,Love and hugs..
Flagstaff is my favorite town in the whole country. In 1978 I was coming from Kingman Arizona into Flagstaff. I could see the mountains in front of me for a long time. I saw dark clouds moving in from the north and as they passed those mountains ahead, it turned them white. One of the most fascinating natural sites I’ve ever witnessed. Coming into town there was a small café on the left that was log construction. I wish I had the foresight back then to buy property there when it was affordable. I would live there now, but it is no longer affordable.
You can buy that house at 603 fountain street for a cool $850,000 ! It has 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and is about 2400 feet. It has been on the market for 696 days! (I wonder why!!) It started at $995,000 on 6/15/2022 and has been discounted multiple times since then, but still no takers!
Did the road trip from LV to Flagstaff then Kayenta and return. A notice in the hotel stated" Flagstaff is a railway town! There are no hotels from which you cannot hear the railroad" they got that right. Loved the place. Love the vids.
I was there in 1984. its much more built up with food places now. most food servers then were college students. thanks for the memories. then Amtrak stopped there thats where we got on and off

What a nice visit. We visited the Grand Canyon just last August...my first and likely only time. It's stunning, but after a while, you remember that you're just looking at a hole in the ground. HAHA. You and Nic inspire us. We are now tentatively planning a road trip to drive Rte 66, and then drive Rte 50 on the way home....two of the most historic eat/west routes in the country, both predating the interstate system. Should be fun. It's all about the journey and the people we meet along the way.
One of my best memories of my time at NAU was the strong smell of pine in the air, especially in the morning. Not a Pine-Sol smell, but a sweet pine scent. Great memories of Flag.
Dark skies are under-rated. On of Nature's grandest shows is too often disrupted by our innate fear of the dark. i have always treasured the early a.m. -- or about 4-5:00 with the clean air, the still dark sky and all the loud monkeys still sleeping. . . .
Flagstaff is always a good destination. There's something about the San Francisco Peaks and trains that draw you in. Fun fact: At Grand Canyon North Rim, you can see the San Francisco Peaks ( the other side from where Joe and Nic were) Good food and beer in town, too!

A very interesting and beautiful video. The town was very nice but indeed expensive. The meal looked great but I cannot remember you ever spending so much on a tab. This may be your record high and only one hard drink. The Grand Canyon shots were vertigo inducing. I worked in the shipyard in Philly years ago and those heights are greater than a dry dock. Nicole is a daredevil, I'd be afraid of slipping as I noticed you were for her. Thanks for another Saturday morning video. Many of your viewers will never get to visit the Grand Canyon. Hey guys, I wanna say that I love the videos! I traveled a bit in my 20s and 30s but I've been locked down for a little over six years where I am now, but I do miss the road trips, and you guys bring that to my living room; so Thank You guys, sincerely! 😊 When you mentioned the train running through the middle of the town: we have a LOT of those situations in Northwest Indiana (I loved your Gary episode, btw - that's where I'm originally from) where I grew up. In fact, in Michigan City, Indiana, which isn't far from Gary - there's a street where there's a train track running right down the center of the road! It's pretty wild!
Flagstaff is one of those beautiful western college towns: San Luis Obispo, Chico, Boulder, Santa Fe. Love it there, especially coming after the Mojave in the west or flat Colorado Plateau from the east. The pines and mountain air are such a relief.
Thanks for this. Been seriously looking at a trip there. I like small-ish towns with a good downtown but with style and not full of giant high rises. Nice to see parts of a town that aren’t totally trashed, the parts where a tourist would spend some time.
This trip brought back memories. When we lived in Tucson many years ago we stopped over in Flagstaff and spent the night before traveling on to the Grand Canyon. After 100d + days of the heat in Tucson, the snow and temps there were a welcome relief. Very quaint town. Thanks for sharing. Retired, we now live in Gold Beach, OR. Another quaint town and an area worth seeing.
Thanks for the video. My wife and I were at the Grand Canyon last week (last week of June, 2024), and we stayed at the South Rim, about 20 miles from where where the tower is. We really love the area and are looking into Flagstaff as a possible retirement city. So far, though, as we can see in this video, the cost has been rising quickly there, so we will be looking into the surrounding cities as well. One of the bigger surprises for me at the canyon is that there is not much safety taken into account when you are literally standing at the edge of the canyon. There are some areas that have a railing or a stone wall, but most areas are just wide open. The ledge you both walked to was crazy, I don't know if I'd be walking out there, especially if it gets wet. The day we got to the canyon, there were thunderstorms that afternoon, so wet rocks and a 5,000ft drop are not a good mix.

I loved Flagstaff back in the 70's, that is, until I found out that they had 17 feet of snow in the winter time. Wonderful museum there. Been back many times on the way to GC.
I returned from Phoenix on I-17 on Friday March, 15, 2024 and went through Flagstaff, Arizona and it was snowing very hard in some areas. It is amazing how much of a difference a couple days can make when the elevation is above 7,000 ft above sea level.
I once drove from Flagstaff through a treacherous, blinding snowstorm (no big deal for me... I'm from NE Ohio) down to sunny 85-degree Phoenix/Mesa in just a few hours. Wildest change I've ever seen. This was in March... I was out there for to see some MLB Spring Training games. Also, that shot of Nic at the rim was AWESOME. I have to say, the first time I saw the Grand Canyon, I was moved to tears. Also, also, love your architectural leanings. Cheers.
Loved your tour of Flag and Grand Canyon. I went to NAU in 1983 and 1984 then transferred to Phx. Brings back them awesome memories. I was a young guy of 18 years age, now I'm knocking at 60 and still got profound & unforgettable memories of Flagstaff, the univ, Grand Canyon, Oak Creek, Sedona etc. I'm retiring in a year then plan to relocate to Az. Wow, I really liked this video. Very nostalgic for me. I went to college at NAU for a little while in the early 90's and then I worked for few months at the Grand Canyon south rim. Flagstaff has always been one of my favorite cities. I wanted to move there at one point in time, but it's kind of expensive to live there as you quite well explained. I hiked to the top of Humphries Peak twice when I was there. That was quite the trek. But the real exhausting trip was hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and then back. That was just about the most intense hiking trek I've ever taken, but well worth the hardship. Those were some good times back then.
Great times, I have only been to Flaggstaff AZ once to visit an Uncle, but it was beautiful. Never been to the Grand Canyon maybe one day. Thanks for sharing and you have a great day and safe travels

Wow! Without doubt a beautiful town, a place where I would have absolutely no problems living in, it's compact narrow streets, beautiful buildings and it has people milling about, because let's be honest, some of the other places you visited were depressing. ❤️ from🇮🇪
In 1968 I backpacked the Kaibab Trail to the floor of the Grand Canyon, spent one night outside The Phantom Ranch and came up the Bright Angel Trail as the return route. Doesn't look like it's change much since then:) On a partly cloudy /sunny day, the light and shadows playing across it are something I've never forgotten. NIc, I'm originally from the Jersey Shore and have spent a lot of time in Eastern,Pa and you tell Joe that Tioga State Forest has the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania:), so there! Cheers, Rik Spector

Stayed in Flagstaff last year for my birthday and took the beautiful scenic drive down to Sedona for 5 days. Hiked all around both areas and it was so magical. My only regret is not going to the Grand Canyon!
The largest county is San Bernardino County in California. My son attended NAU starting back in 2014 and it’s a great school in a great city! Love getting The Joe and Nicole videos on a Saturday morning! Looks like your trip is off to a great start and I look forward to the next video!,,,,

I lived in Flagstaff for a decent amount of time. And down the highway in Williams for even longer. I was a department manager at the west side walmart. I went from collecting carts in the parking lot, to manager in about 6 months. It's nice there. The Eastside where I lived was a little sketchy. Sometimes a lot sketchy. I was actually homeless when I first showed up there and started at Walmart. I was showering and everything at a goodwill building on the Eastside that helped homeless get on their feet. Then I got a place awhile later. Riding my bike from my place on the far Eastside to work on the far Westside at 4:30am in the winter was brutal.
I love your videos. I am an avid traveller and watch many travel vloggers. I can almost imagine I am on the trips with you both. You are informative, easy going and down to earth and I just love being a passenger in the Jeep watching all the amazing scenery and architecture pass by. Love the end of the videos in restaurants. My ex-wife and I did this many years ago we went down about 3/4 of the way to a place called Indian camp we were just on a Day hike so we had to come back by the time we got up to the top it was 11:00 at night we did not have a flashlight we hug the side of the Hill as we went up the pathway where the donkeys usually go it was a little terrifying but we made it thank God if you get a chance run by the Painted Desert❤❤ you guys doing awesome job be safe😊
In 1995 my youngest was in the 8th grade She was in the Clarion choir at First Baptist church Dallas. My wife and I were sponsors. In the Summer of that year we went on a tour with the choir taking basically on the same route you all traveled. We took the teenagers to the Grand Canyon. We had about 100 of them on the rim of the Canyon. Needless to say I wondered how many we would get back home with. Thanks for returning me to that nightmare on the rim. :) It really is a sight to see.
Arizona fun fact, Apache county Arizona which I live in is the 6th largest county in the US and the population of Flagstaff alone is greater than all of Apache county. Lol. Apache county is I believe 70% Native Tribes people and of the Non Tribal a big percentage of those folks are Mormons of which I am not. St Johns the county seat does not have mail delivery at all, it's a P.O. Box or nothing, makes it quite interesting when having to do legal type stuff out of county. People don't believe that in the 21st century that mail delivery isn't available. Lol. It's Beautiful here and this county up through Flagstaff and beyond is COLD in winter and can get quite snowy at times. Great Video, thanks for sharing it.
As an Aussie, Ive been through Flagstaff & spent the day at Grand Canyon & surrounds ... it was lightly snowing when I was there, but incredibly beautiful, one of the most memorable places Ive been in the world, apart from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe & Taj Mahal in India

Back in the day, my ancestors owned a big chunk of Flagstaff, (as they were with the group of people who founded it) including most of the land which is now Main Street. By the time I was born, they only owned a meager amount, still some main street property, where my aunt & uncle lived. In fact their home is one of the oldest homes there (if it is still standing) I remember it being made of brick and stone - and it was at the end of the city heading east off Hwy 66. I just remember it was wherever the hill almost met the street because you had to go up a steep driveway to get to their little home that looked like the outside was made of stones. (Just like the stones on that huge church). I believe it's all been sold and unfortunately, I inherited none of it....bummer...
Missed each other by a day. I was there Wednesday morning (Grand Canyon) Heading North West next week. Sunday with Hoover Dam then Monday Vegas and Topaz Lake and so on. Have a great trip!

One of my best memories of my time at NAU was the strong smell of pine in the air, especially in the morning. Not a Pine-Sol smell, but a sweet pine scent. Great memories of Flag.

Dark skies are under-rated. On of Nature's grandest shows is too often disrupted by our innate fear of the dark. i have always treasured the early a.m. -- or about 4-5:00 with the clean air, the still dark sky and all the loud monkeys still sleeping. . . .

Flagstaff is always a good destination. There's something about the San Francisco Peaks
and trains that draw you in.
Fun fact: At Grand Canyon North Rim, you can see the San Francisco Peaks ( the other side from where Joe and Nic were)

A very interesting and beautiful video. The town was very nice but indeed expensive. The meal looked great but I cannot remember you ever spending so much on a tab. This may be your record high and only one hard drink. The Grand Canyon shots were vertigo inducing. I worked in the shipyard in Philly years ago and those heights are greater than a dry dock. Nicole is a daredevil, I'd be afraid of slipping as I noticed you were for her. Thanks for another Saturday morning video. Many of your viewers will never get to visit the Grand Canyon. With this video they just visited it. Mission accomplished!
Grand Canyon is about 1 mile from top to bottom. I get vertigo really bad, so this was (ahem) interesting.

When you mentioned the train running through the middle of the town: we have a LOT of those situations in Northwest Indiana (I loved your Gary episode, btw - that's where I'm originally from) where I grew up. In fact, in Michigan City, Indiana, which isn't far from Gary - there's a street where there's a train track running right down the center of the road! It's pretty wild!

Flagstaff is one of those beautiful western college towns: San Luis Obispo, Chico, Boulder, Santa Fe. Love it there, especially coming after the Mojave in the west or flat Colorado Plateau from the east. The pines and mountain air are such a relief.
Thanks for this. Been seriously looking at a trip there. I like small-ish towns with a good downtown but with style and not full of giant high rises. Nice to see parts of a town that aren’t totally trashed, the parts where a tourist would spend some time.
This trip brought back memories. When we lived in Tucson many years ago we stopped over in Flagstaff and spent the night before traveling on to the Grand Canyon. After 100d + days of the heat in Tucson, the snow and temps there were a welcome relief. Very quaint town. Thanks for sharing. Retired, we now live in Gold Beach, OR. Another quaint town and an area worth seeing.
Thanks for the video. My wife and I were at the Grand Canyon last week (last week of June, 2024), and we stayed at the South Rim, about 20 miles from where where the tower is. We really love the area and are looking into Flagstaff as a possible retirement city. So far, though, as we can see in this video, the cost has been rising quickly there, so we will be looking into the surrounding cities as well.
One of the bigger surprises for me at the canyon is that there is not much safety taken into account when you are literally standing at the edge of the canyon. There are some areas that have a railing or a stone wall, but most areas are just wide open. The ledge you both walked to was crazy, I don't know if I'd be walking out there, especially if it gets wet. The day we got to the canyon, there were thunderstorms that afternoon, so wet rocks and a 5,000ft drop are not a good mix.
That part of the video was terrifying! 😮

I loved Flagstaff back in the 70's, that is, until I found out that they had 17 feet of snow in the winter time. Wonderful museum there. Been back many times on the way to GC.
I returned from Phoenix on I-17 on Friday March, 15, 2024 and went through Flagstaff, Arizona and it was snowing very hard in some areas. It is amazing how much of a difference a couple days can make when the elevation is above 7,000 ft above sea level.
I once drove from Flagstaff through a treacherous, blinding snowstorm (no big deal for me... I'm from NE Ohio) down to sunny 85-degree Phoenix/Mesa in just a few hours. Wildest change I've ever seen. This was in March... I was out there for to see some MLB Spring Training games.
Also, that shot of Nic at the rim was AWESOME. I have to say, the first time I saw the Grand Canyon, I was moved to tears. Also, also, love your architectural leanings. Cheers.

Loved your tour of Flag and Grand Canyon. I went to NAU in 1983 and 1984 then transferred to Phx. Brings back them awesome memories. I was a young guy of 18 years age, now I'm knocking at 60 and still got profound & unforgettable memories of Flagstaff, the univ, Grand Canyon, Oak Creek, Sedona etc. I'm retiring in a year then plan to relocate to Az. Prices of houses have gone crazy high though ! Very nostalgic session. Thank you much for rekindling fond memories. Cheers and God bless the USA. Cheers ya all 😊

Flagstaff is surely one of the top 20 cities in the USA, but pricey. Thanks for the trip. I saw the Grand Canyon as a boy in '66, when it was quieter.

This is one of the most breathtaking adventures yet! Flagstaff is extraordinary! The architecture is fabulous. There wasn't a single thing I didn't enjoy. You the last video you did, if combined with this adventure were combined it would make a great documentary. I haven't been to Arizona and the Grand Canyon in 48 years. It's so cool to see it done in this format. I can't tell you how grateful I am for you and Nicole and your amazing channel. I'm older now and disabled and can no longer travel like I did so many years ago. Thank you for bringing all of your adventures to my television. Wow, I really liked this video. Very nostalgic for me. I went to college at NAU for a little while in the early 90's and then I worked for few months at the Grand Canyon south rim. Flagstaff has always been one of my favorite cities. I wanted to move there at one point in time, but it's kind of expensive to live there as you quite well explained. I hiked to the top of Humphries Peak twice when I was there. That was quite the trek. But the real exhausting trip was hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and then back. That was just about the most intense hiking trek I've ever taken, but well worth the hardship. Those were some good times back then.
Request to Nichole, "Please don't give that dare devil shot again." I wish both of your safe travels everywhere.

Wow! Without doubt a beautiful town, a place where I would have absolutely no problems living in, it's compact narrow streets, beautiful buildings and it has people milling about, because let's be honest, some of the other places you visited were depressing.

In 1968 I backpacked the Kaibab Trail to the floor of the Grand Canyon, spent one night outside The Phantom Ranch and came up the
Bright Angel Trail as the return route.
Doesn't look like it's change much since then:)
On a partly cloudy /sunny day, the light and shadows playing across it are something I've never forgotten.

Hello Joe and Nic . I’m from San Diego and we visited Grand Canyon last year for our wedding anniversary . Grand Canyon is Amazingly Beautiful .
I'm hoping you include a picture or short video clip at night of those city lights. Because that is the most interesting thing I have learned about a city in a while.
Stayed in Flagstaff last year for my birthday and took the beautiful scenic drive down to Sedona for 5 days. Hiked all around both areas and it was so magical. My only regret is not going to the Grand Canyon!
The largest county is San Bernardino County in California. My son attended NAU starting back in 2014 and it’s a great school in a great city! Love getting The Joe and Nicole videos on a Saturday morning! Looks like your trip is off to a great start and I look forward to the next video!,,,,

I lived in Flagstaff for a decent amount of time. And down the highway in Williams for even longer. I was a department manager at the west side walmart. I went from collecting carts in the parking lot, to manager in about 6 months. It's nice there. The Eastside where I lived was a little sketchy. Sometimes a lot sketchy. I was actually homeless when I first showed up there and started at Walmart. I was showering and everything at a goodwill building on the Eastside that helped homeless get on their feet. Then I got a place awhile later. Riding my bike from my place on the far Eastside to work on the far Westside at 4:30am in the winter was brutal.

My ex-wife and I did this many years ago we went down about 3/4 of the way to a place called Indian camp we were just on a Day hike so we had to come back by the time we got up to the top it was 11:00 at night we did not have a flashlight we hug the side of the Hill as we went up the pathway where the donkeys usually go it was a little terrifying but we made it thank God if you get a chance run by the Painted Desert❤❤ you guys doing awesome job be safe😊
In 1995 my youngest was in the 8th grade She was in the Clarion choir at First Baptist church Dallas. My wife and I were sponsors. In the Summer of that year we went on a tour with the choir taking basically on the same route you all traveled. We took the teenagers to the Grand Canyon. We had about 100 of them on the rim of the Canyon. Needless to say I wondered how many we would get back home with. Thanks for returning me to that nightmare on the rim. :) It really is a sight to see.

Arizona fun fact, Apache county Arizona which I live in is the 6th largest county in the US and the population of Flagstaff alone is greater than all of Apache county. Lol. Apache county is I believe 70% Native Tribes people and of the Non Tribal a big percentage of those folks are Mormons of which I am not. St Johns the county seat does not have mail delivery at all, it's a P.O. Box or nothing, makes it quite interesting when having to do legal type stuff out of county. People don't believe that in the 21st century that mail delivery isn't available. Lol. It's Beautiful here and this county up through Flagstaff and beyond is COLD in winter and can get quite snowy at times. Great Video, thanks for sharing it.
As an Aussie, Ive been through Flagstaff & spent the day at Grand Canyon & surrounds ... it was lightly snowing when I was there, but incredibly beautiful, one of the most memorable places Ive been in the world, apart from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe & Taj Mahal in India

Back in the day, my ancestors owned a big chunk of Flagstaff, (as they were with the group of people who founded it) including most of the land which is now Main Street. By the time I was born, they only owned a meager amount, still some main street property, where my aunt & uncle lived. In fact their home is one of the oldest homes there (if it is still standing) I remember it being made of brick and stone - and it was at the end of the city heading east off Hwy 66. I just remember it was wherever the hill almost met the street because you had to go up a steep driveway to get to their little home that looked like the outside was made of stones. (Just like the stones on that huge church). I believe it's all been sold and unfortunately, I inherited none of it....bummer...
