Awesome job on the video Brooks! It was really fun meeting up with you and getting to drive your Model 3 Performance. Can't wait to meet up at the track sometime and do more. Thanks!
It's actually a pretty nice strategy. There is not a word on the Tesla web site about this upgrade, because they obviously want you to consider the M3P. But after you purchased the M3LR, you showed that you were not willing to shell out $8k extra for the entire performance package, so how about going halfway to the M3P in pure acceleration for $2k? Some of those (us) that were not willing to pay the extra $8k for the M3P might very well pay $2k for the Acceleration Boost upgrade, and Tesla gets some extra cash.
@crainger I mean for efficiency all you gotta do is make sure the aftermarket wheels weigh the same or less than LR stock wheels. $8k for the performance is not bad at all actually because if you were to get an aftermarket big brake kit, aftermarket suspension, wheels n tires, and acceleration boost option it would cost nearly $8k and you lose factory warranty on those parts
I have a Model 3 Dual motor and I did indeed add the $2000 speed upgrade. I can notice a tremendous increase in speed, I'm really not a speed demon type of driver, just wanted to add the option while available.
Trust me too :) I tested the boost upgrade before/after, getting 0-60 and 1/4 mile times with the dragy. I also extrapolate times for different states of charge, based on previous data. I then do a full analysis of the better times and discuss how this is not the same as getting a full 5% HP increase and whether it is worth the money. ruclips.net/video/B33syeFwbtU/видео.html
You trust him? The video clearly shows the dual motor with upgrade had a better top end but this guy reported them as the same because it was hard for him to admit the other car is faster.
@@mmark300 I really wish you would have done some rolling start runs. 60-120mph would have been nice. There is definitely an improvement at higher speeds that I don't feel was properly quantified on your reporting.
This is the video that many of us Tesla owners have been waiting for, so THANK YOU! Many of us LR AWD (non-performance) owners love how fast our cars are, but deep down we do have "P" envy. That's right...performance envy is a real thing. Now there's a pill for that, and it will only cost us $2k.
This. I almost got the P but chose LR because I didn't want the sensitive 20" wheels getting beat up on rural NH roads, nor did I want to buy a brand new car just to toss out the wheels on day 1. Thrilled to know I can pay for (most) of the speed without shilling out for the performance brakes, pedals, and spoiler I would never use.
Took me this long to find that video, I've been curious about this for more than a year. I'm afraid this confirms everyone's suspicion, the Long Range with boost is too close to the Performance. If you factor in the compromise on comfort with those wheels/suspensions and the 10K premium over the Long Range I can't see any reason to buy a Performance anymore.
The performance is only 5k more expensive than the LR.. And comes with a better sound system. If you pay 2k for boost in LR you're looking at a 3k price difference.
@@user-sg1bn2ij2k Range is same if you charge to 80 as recommended. But yeah, for longer drives charge time is faster and more miles. Id still go with LR and just save up for a plaid.
The boost upgraded Long range Dual Motor seems like a winner to me, The only additional upgrade I would want from the Performance are the bigger brakes.
@@jolipolijj Martian Wheels has the MW03 and MW05 which are 18” but have the correct bore for the performance brakes. I’m debating between the 3 and 5 for mine performance that’s coming.
True. It only comes out the back windows on the 2021 and it totally sucks, anything over 70mph is almost unbearable, but I still love it. Tesla skimped on the back windows, did not double pane them like they did the front. I image the reason no one talks about the wind noise is bcz the car is so much fun to drive. I leased mine and can’t wait to buy my next one.
@muskcode also would be bad with electric semi trucks and electric motorcycles. I hope they won't let it happen because the only reason I know there is a motorcycle next to me is because I hear the loud engine
@muskcode That's BS. There's no way you can hear other F1 cars either over the noise of your own car and ear protection. Yes, they use ear protection because the engine noise is so annoying.
fasdewxccx xcvxcv Same here. I’ll be very disappointed and probably won’t buy another Tesla if they don’t widen the gap again. Nothing like overpaying for nothing.
@@justincasey This is a track car. The main difference in the track mode with different cooling system. So it is just impossible to have a great lap time every lap with regular model. The same with the brakes. Acceleration 0-60 is just a free bonus. It is not necessary on a track because you are starting just once there.
Elon Musk, please give the model 3 performance ludicrous mode... I was actually thinking of that at a time that would be the next upgrade performance 🙏🙏🙏
That's a ludicrous suggestion... LOL. If you want the big fast crazy stuff you have to buy the big crazy car too. Mind you with the share price at @420 he might be a little brain numb and give away a santa present or two.
That of course depends on whether the motors in the P have unused capacity that can be unlocked. If the P performs at the physical limit of the hardware, it's not so simple to unlock extra power through software.
Possible reasons it won't happen OTA: motors/battery are already pushing limit, will be better or too close to Model S specs. Wait for new battery tech announcements early/mind 2020.. if/when that comes to P3D it will be a beast.
@@steveseeger I expect new batteries to go to new products first. Cooling is an integrated system on Model 3 so a new battery may involve complications. I expect that a significant cost of production savings will be needed for any changes to the Model 3. They don't need to boost sales yet. They always need to reduce the cost of production.
I have come to realize that most complaints about Tesla's are from people that have never driven one. My cousin drove my Tesla S Performance and was simply blown away. "I gotta have one if these" was his response. BTW, my last software update increased power in ludicrous plus mode (with not a lot of fanfare) from 0 to 60 in 2.4 sec to 2.2. I'm just saying.
I don’t know if a 100kwh battery is needed, but a 90kwh battery would be perfect. It wouldn’t be as much weight, while still adding ~100hp and torque. Also range would increase to 375 or so. Lastly acceleration times would be mid 2s and quarter miles in mid 10s which would be perfect. A 100kwh battery will get you 400+ miles of range and low 10s in the quarter mile, but it would add more weight which isn’t necessary or beneficial, cuz it might weight close to 4300 pounds, instead of 4100 or so with a 90kwh. Also a stiffer suspension, or air suspension is a must.
Just want to clarify the weight would increase only if using the same battery chemistry. If they are using a newer/improved chemistry it could weight the same.
mskz06 True, but I highly doubt they would change the chemistry of batteries because the Model 3 uses the latest tech from Tesla. It would only be smart of them to just make the battery bigger using the same formula or else it may cost as much as a current model S
100kwh battery for Model 3 doesn't necessarily mean more weight. Its been a couple years and the battery cocktail may have improved significantly the energy density for each battery. Same number of batteries but each battery will hold more juice. Insignificant weight change. They just need to make sure the motors and powertrain can handle that much more juice and torque so there might be some improvement to individual components.
Man u aren't kidding... I think of mine everyday... Initially put in for a Tri- motor but realized I can't afford it.. went to Dual. Instead.. but still 640 hp
You guys still waiting for that cybertruck? I've long since cancelled my reservation as I know it's not gonna be the price the initially announced. It's be north of $80k...mark my words. Besides, they can't even keep up with current demand and they have 2 new models in the cybertruck and roadster. Might not see a cybertruck until the end of 2024 or early 2025 and that's being conservative.
@@jcabangon22 All I want is a faster 50-130, idc about the 0-60 with the performance. A regular lr awd model 3 can keep up with me and pass me 50-130 when im in a performance like wtf? The model S LR dips down in the 10 second 1/4 mile realm. They could at least make the performance 3 1/4 mile low 11's.
Great channel always straight to the point and then to the discussion. I think Tesla have again made a perfect move to keep their reputation up there. For $2000 if you want move performance on the long range 3 its a great deal. You can envisage other performance upgrade paths such as Ludicrous 3 maybe at the same time as Plaid S to keep the product placement gaps but its win, win, win ! I bought a P85 MS in 2014 and soon after came the duel motor, so you feel a bit like you should have waited but then Tesal upgraded the P85 and you soon forget anyway and think hell they are all brilliant. I think Tesla listen to owners and if there is an undercurrent of dissatisfaction or need they respond with upgrades or offers. Why wouldn't they? Everyone wins. And to my mind they also update the charging algorithms tweaking the performance / charging characteristics of the battery. Tesla have the data and the technology to continuously improve the ownership experience even years after purchase, no wonder we love these cars every time we drive them, even 5 years later.
Great video. The dual motor with the $2000 upgrade is a real sleeper. If I were to buy, it would be the dual with the better brakes, etc. I wish they would offer something like that with the long range RWD that I have.
tempting... I have the long range dual motor without the upgrade and it is plenty fast enough to leave the ICE cars in the dust... but... still very tempting for the price of another good guitar...😁😁😁
They sold a Performance model without the larger wheels and red brakes. It was the Stealth Performance and it includes track mode. It was $2,000 more than the long range and has the same power as the regular Performance. The boost upgrade does not have as much power and omits track mode.
These speeds that a family sedan Tesla run are crazy quick. Every time I see another update or another model being launched I'm confronted with the fact that EVs are truly the future of motoring for ordinary folk. When the Roadster finally arrives will that spell the end of ICE supercars?

Great video! I bought a model 3 LR AWD and about one week after picking it up got the little notification in the app asking if I wanted to buy "Performance Boost" for $2k. How does a man who's emotionally still 15 not go for it? And I was NOT disappointed! VERY well worth it. Added a carbon spoiler and some racing pedals and I'm having a great time. Did you know a spoiler improves performance 5% (3% if it's Chinese plastic but 5% if it's real carbon fiber)? Ok...it doesn't...but it feels like it does. 😀
Thanks for video. I have a long range, dual motor Model 3 and I just got the $2000 performance upgrade yesterday. I noticed a seat of the pants difference on the first drive. But, I had no idea that it would put my Model 3 down into the 3.5 range in the 0 to 60 and into the high 11's in the quarter mile. Money well spent. Anybody who has modified or "tuned" a gasoline powered car, knows that the first $2000 usually goes towards intake and exhaust, but rarely buys you this sort of dramatic performance increase. Also, I have a feeling that Tesla will be rolling out a ludicrous mode Model 3 before too long.
Most gasoline owners this side of the pond spend £500 on remapping and get even bigger gains in performance!... just take the bmw 140is, audi s3s or supra for example! Either way fast car you have there and I’m sure this will upset a few performance model owners until the inevitable happens!
Great test spot I use with dragy tests is to magnetize it to the back edge of the wiper arm. Strong satellite signals and the most consistent elevation curves I get at the same location.
I removed all the badges, total sleeper, covered all the Tesla emblems except the ones on the glass, when the service guys offered to put a Dual Motor badge on my car, I said, nope.
Unless you want to take it on the track and race it the performance model is not worth having with the tyre problems and hard suspension and cost of tyres!! The $2k upgrade is sweeter. I have really noticed the jump in the acceleration with the boost. The Long Range with the boost is a real wolf in sheep’s clothing. In NZ now they’re not offering the LR any more. That’s a pity
Model 3 Ludicrous may follow the S Plaid to keep the S as king of the hill. No, the cars aren't too close. The Performance model isn't just about the straight line power. You can get an LT1 V8 in a base model Camaro, or you can get that same engine in an SS. The SS comes with better suspension, brakes, etc. The 3 Performance is no different.
As a Three Time Tesla owner , Model SP90DL, P3D+, P3D stealth I can say Elon MUST BOOST the power on the P’s. A $2,000 upgrade boosted it too easily and now the P3D needs to be a 2.6-7 second car to 60 mph to counterbalance the hierarchy. A Launch mode would be awesome! The differences between a time of 4.2 and 3.2 are significant but not 3.5 and 3.0 for such a bargain boosted price !
Not only will they cannibalism their sales in the luxury section of Model S they would also upset the model s owners who paid so much more for the price
david lin the 3 sells 8x to every 1 S. The plaid version will be faster and it’s only wise to keep P buyers who paid more Money initially to also have an upgrade opportunity
The S can do it because of the air suspension. Don't forget that was Brook's big issue with the top gear testing. The S crouches down to get the launch. The 3 doesn't have air suspension
It’s too close between the two now. My guess is they’ll release an update to do the equivalent to the Performance else there’s really no need to buy the Performance. Kind of fun watching EVs evolve.
True but the performance does have lower suspension, upgraded brakes, and track mode. I just ordered my model 3 and was originally going to get the performance but ended up downgrading to the LR DM. I figured it's gonna be my daily and I don't want the rougher ride. Mom has a performance Y and it's kinda bumpy
@@InSaN3ViSioN You just mentioned atleast 5-7k worth of mods...later when you sell it it won't retain the money you added in it. Might as well get a performance.
P doesn't cost much more than LR so it's fine. They seem even at speed. And I'm all for 3 being the faster than S, it should be when it can be. They should make a 3ludi and a 3R that's stripped for all dead weight at any cost. Boron rims, no lead acid, video mirrors, comfortable elegant shell seats, no frunk liners, no rear disc brakes or tiny, no cast metal cases, no sway bar, no nothing.
Saw a sad sight here in Brisbane the other day...one of these on a flat bed. It looks like it went sideways hard into a gutter or median strip. Rear was folded under the car and the front was also tucked under. No panel damage.
I’m watching this video at the same place that it was filmed. I was looking at the background and realized that I’m charging my car at the same exact Wawa.
I have an old Passport G-Timer unit which is accelerometer based. I hit 0-60 mph in 3.50 sec on back to back runs in 32 degree weather. Very happy with the Acceleration Boost upgrade. Also, my pervious run few months in the summer with free 5% increase run on the same road came out to 3.82 sec., that was probably in 80 degree weather. So, I am thinking my car may be slightly quicker once the temps are back over 70+ degrees. DT, what was the temperate on the day you ran these cars?
Brooks, when you first got the most recent 5% update you reported a 117mph 1/4 mile run as well. Why wasn’t that discussed? I haven’t run my Tesla 3 performance at the track but there was a clear sotp feel difference after the last 5% update down low and at highway speeds as well. Regardless, love your videos!
indeed, that was at 100% charge, right off the charger.... couldn't replicate it at the track though when I raced that Challenger 1320.... maybe cold battery, etc...
DragTimes Good point, forgot about the soc factor... Thank you for clarifying; however, it looked like the performance was still pulling slightly more up top regardless of the similar trap speeds. Overall it seems to be a drivers race on the highway as you stated. I’m still happy I got the Performance as the brakes and tires are more suited for the acceleration. The faster off-the-line acceleration is nice too💪🏻

I just wanted to know if the handling of the car is any different between the performance and LR. I'm stuck between the 2. After testing the LR mode I found the Performance to be way better in acceleration. But Tesla dealer didn't have LR Boost option to test. If the LR Boost is going to feel and handle like the performance then I don't want to waste money on Performance.
@@freddybell8328 yea but I wanted to see if there would be any difference in handling between the LR and Performance (regardless of boost or not) apparently Performance has lowered suspension which should improve handling. I have gone against a performance model tesla at the track, and it was steadily gaining speed against me. However after I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, we were almost identical. Performance model still finished first but overall I'm very happy with the LR with boost.
This video seems a little short, would you please do an expanded one? Maybe go deeper into the matter? I really like to know and please do not miss any caveats
It looks like difference between the original Roadster normal 3.9 versus Sport 3.7 - it's all in the takeoff. The power is the same but the point at which full power begins is a lot lower at takeoff with the original Roadster Sport - the sport firmware anticipated wider tires. In this case it looks like the performance firmware launches more quickly as the suspension and tires are expected to be there to handle it.

How much would it cost in hardware, software, and time to make an ICE car improve its 0-60 from 4.4s to less than 3.9s? I doubt you're talking a simple stage 1 remap at those power levels. All that testing and tuning and dymo runs... makes a $2k software update a lot less 'laughable'...
@n s I can't entirely argue with that, as I will miss the sound of my 530e when the model 3 arrives, hopefully next month. I might just have to get creative make the noises myself :P
as CarWow found, ALL the difference between the dual motor Model 3s is at the start. From ~60 MPH on up they are identical until the speed limiter is reached.
@@threeseven7894 I agree that there are a lot of good upgrades for the money, but the most significant (in my opinion) was the P3D being over a full second quicker 0-60 than the "lower" version. Now that's gone. And I will most likely ditch the 20" wheels anyway.
note also that M3P comes with bigger heavier wheels and brakes. To go the fastest you need 18"..like aero wheels with covers on M3 LR and side mirrors folded.
The performance does have 20" rims and the DM has 19"? What would happen if both cars had the same size rims. 1" could make a difference. Swap the rims and do the race again?
dumas1012 If it only was that easy. Performance models have a weird stepped hub. What I would like to see is large barrel aftermarket 18”s that fit on M3P w/ big brakes ***with smaller diameter tires***. I know some of these lighter aftermarket wheels are already available, but I’m curious about the gearing advantage. Does it make sense to give up some of your 162mph top speed to get slightly lower gearing? Or is the car already traction limited from 0-40 mph so a taller tire makes more sense for a higher 1/4 mile trap speed? The first thing Model Y owners will probably try is bolting on smaller diameter Model 3 wheels & tires.
Tesla basically unlocked the performance power on the awd LR with the $2000 upgrade. That’s gonna make some of the performance model 3 owners a little upset. I know I’m a little pissy because there was over $12,000 difference between the awd lr and performance when I bought mine. :(
Right there with you Dude. With the models S and X, the performance versions are way faster than the non-performance versions. So why is Tesla showing this disrespect to the 3P owners?
Turbocharged Dude I wish it was an equal unlock to the P, but it is not. It’s still a good value for folks like me that bought an AWD though. The P still smokes the AWD off the line. Pretty much a .6 second diff as Tesla advertises. After driving the P and AWD+ back to back today, I still wish I had P speed. Just not as much after the upgrade.
Appreciate all you do. Can I ask a question. I have a 2012 Camero Ss indy Pace car. Not a scratch, mint condition with about 90k miles. Love the car but I WANT the LR 3. I'm getting a favorable trade in price for the SS. Should I pull the trigger.
I have that boost option. Pretty quick ride now. How do the speeds change with the different size rims? Or if it is the same over all diameter tire size. Amazon sent me the performance badge, and I bought the spoiler, pedals, and caliper covers for that performance look. I purchased those chrome wheel covers and chrome lug nuts as well. This is great stuff. If anyone can answer - I’m currently driving a 2018 BMW M3 and strongly considering selling it back to BMW and moving on a M3P. As a guy that loves the M3 as a drivers car, am I crazy to be thinking about this? The M3 truly has been an excellent car, great performance, power and practicality. Am I likely to regret this change?
Practicality could be a wrong word depending on your situation. If you're looking for a family car then M3P may not be a good choice. Otherwise there's no doubt you'll love it. Even the M3LR would bring a smile to your face.
I am assuming the performance 3 had the 20 inch wheels vs the 19 inch on the other one. If traction was not an issue for the LR, then this probably helped them.
the thing that still baffles me is that M3P has declared 377KW (506 hp), M3LR has 366KW (491 hp). After adding the boost to your M3LR you are supposed to gain additional 31KW (41hp) which adds up to 397KW (532hp). This means that after the perf boost upgrade M3LR+ has 26hp more that M3P....why is it still slower?
How do you get this boost? After I pay on my tesla page, will my app notify a new download right away like any other upgrade so far? Or does it just get it in some other way?
@_ David _ You can Google it. There's already a few articles sourcing a well known reverse engineer who took apart the latest update (Xmas 2019) and inside were string references to Ludicrous mode for the 3 as well as "Sport".
Release new Model 3 Performance + with 100kWh pack and Ludicrous. Sell it for 6 months to see who bites and then offer a software upgrade to "old" performance Model 3 to boost their performance midway between.
If you're buying this for a daily driver get the all wheel drive plus speed with 18 aero wheels to get the best of both. Unless you really need the bigger breaks
Just listened to the last of this video. Making the Model 3 P faster than it is now will probably be more hurtful to the motors. So, the next model 3 P will probably be one with a slightly more powerful motor along with a more powerful battery. What do you think?
Yes, the Jan Brady version got a BUNCH of horsepower. But the Marsha Brady version is probably going to get a lot faster after its Brady Boost. The RWD Cindy will be a drift machine after it’s boost. Not sure what to call the SR+....what was the name of the Brady dog?
Which wheel/tire package is on your buddy's dual motor sport, 19 or 20 inch? I wonder if the 18 inch package would even be a bit quicker. The 18's weigh 47# per corner. I have heard that the 19 and 20 inch weigh more.
@@greghagen6711 I've tried aftermarket staggered 20" wheels and tires on my long range, dual motor Model 3. The loss of power and range was noticable. The handling was better and the look was superb.
It tastes really good and the extra speed is insane.

Also a stiffer suspension, or air suspension is a must.
and then, there area people like me, that would rather take out the back seats and put in a couple more batteries ;o)
I added twin turbos and nitrous to cool the batteries.

They sold a Performance model without the larger wheels and red brakes. It was the Stealth Performance and it includes track mode. It was $2,000 more than the long range and has the same power as the regular Performance. The boost upgrade does not have as much power and omits track mode.

As a Three Time Tesla owner , Model SP90DL, P3D+, P3D stealth I can say Elon MUST BOOST the power on the P’s. The differences between a time of 4.2 and 3.2 are significant but not 3.5 and 3.0 for such a bargain boosted price !

david lin the 3 sells 8x to every 1 S.

I ordered it as soon as I got the email. I'm calling it The Sport too. Now we have DM, Sport and Performance trims. I can sure feel the difference. 😁
Great video!! 👍🏽
Tesla basically unlocked the performance power on the awd LR with the $2000 upgrade. That’s gonna make some of the performance model 3 owners a little upset. I know I’m a little pissy because there was over $12,000 difference between the awd lr and performance when I bought mine. :(
🙏🙏🙏
Right there with you Dude. With the models S and X, the performance versions are way faster than the non-performance versions. So why is Tesla showing this disrespect to the 3P owners?
Um no. Lol
Agreed I own a P3D and I’m thinking the exact same thing!
Appreciate all you do. Can I ask a question. I have a 2012 Camero Ss indy Pace car. Not a scratch, mint condition with about 90k miles. Love the car but I WANT the LR 3. I'm getting a favorable trade in price for the SS. Should I pull the trigger.
Performance upgrade on mine... FUARK! amazing driving experience..
It's a decent commuter car. I hope one day the fSD works correctly.
I’m curious as to how this upgrade affects range. Does the AWD still get the 322 mile range or does it drop it back to 310 miles? Any idea?
My range didn't change.
I tested the boost upgrade before/after, getting 0-60 and 1/4 mile times with the dragy.
I also extrapolate times for different states of charge, based on previous data.
I then do a full analysis of the better times and discuss how this is not the same as getting a full 5% HP increase and whether it is worth the money.

The 2023 Tesla model 3 long range even without acceleration boost, beats the times 0 to 60 and quarter mile then the 2007 shelby GT500 with 500hp
Im considering doing the acceleration boost, we’ll see.
This is a great video. Thank you so much, this was exactly what I was looking for.
Teslas are truly Incredible!
I think it's too early to tell. I personally got the AWD and took a rist as I saw that there was a potential for it to eventually be more like the performance.
It's close, but not quite - I was hoping the same thing:
I tested the boost upgrade before/after, getting 0-60 and 1/4 mile times with the dragy.
I also extrapolate times for different states of charge, based on previous data.

Take 'em both to PBI with same charge on same day with at least one pass where Brooks is the driver of the other car.
I clocked mine after boost at 3.77s today
Wade Wilson you think it’s worth it? I’m considering it
@@bigwilly528 Definitely worth it! Unless you plan to sell your LR for a performance.
I am assuming the performance 3 had the 20 inch wheels vs the 19 inch on the other one. If traction was not an issue for the LR, then this probably helped them.
traction is not an issue as per stealth performance
Possibly designate the Acceleration Boost version with a black line under the Dual Motor badge. Can be bought through eBay.
Tesla is trying to stay ahead in the competition. BNW has a new M3 rumor with 510hp from the X3M. The new 100 model 3 will destroy the new M3/M4.
the thing that still baffles me is that M3P has declared 377KW (506 hp), M3LR has 366KW (491 hp).
After adding the boost to your M3LR you are supposed to gain additional 31KW (41hp) which adds up to 397KW (532hp).
This means that after the perf boost upgrade M3LR+ has 26hp more that M3P....why is it still slower?
The red line under "dual motor" adds 50hp
prolly software limited.
The 3P with the heaier aeroturbine wheels vs a 3LR+Sport with some ultralight forged wheels would be interesting.
Are the motors the same? If so you could get a long range and do suspension and brake upgrades.
Performance ludicrous mode incoming
How do you get this boost? After I pay on my tesla page, will my app notify a new download right away like any other upgrade so far? Or does it just get it in some other way?
Tesla says that it takes some time to get it. My car was connected to wifi, and had it just a minute after purchasing.
Seems like an oversight for Tesla to make the awd that good, unless something amazing is coming for the existing Performance owners
Yep. Plaid for Model S, X & CT. Ludicrous for Model 3 performance. Make totally sens.
@_ David _ Ludicrous for the 3 was revealed in the software code
@_ David _ You can Google it. There's already a few articles sourcing a well known reverse engineer who took apart the latest update (Xmas 2019) and inside were string references to Ludicrous mode for the 3 as well as "Sport".
The oversight is the video doesn't show the race from a standstill
7:26 the droids you are looking for
Release new Model 3 Performance + with 100kWh pack and Ludicrous. Sell it for 6 months to see who bites and then offer a software upgrade to "old" performance Model 3 to boost their performance midway between.
Definitely outrunning the cops NOW!!! 🤣
...?
If you're buying this for a daily driver get the all wheel drive plus speed with 18 aero wheels to get the best of both. Unless you really need the bigger breaks
best of both is the stealth performance.
@@kingprone7846 Actually sucks because it has so much power and shitty brakes. My Dad has a stealth. Should have gotten a real performance haha
@@InSaN3ViSioN the stealth/nonp and p have the same break performance. the performance model brakes are just better during repeated braking.
You guys have a Tesla club somewhere in Florida? I’m on the space coast about to get my model y
Just listened to the last of this video.
Making the Model 3 P faster than it is now will probably be more hurtful to the motors. So, the next model 3 P will probably be one with a slightly more powerful motor along with a more powerful battery. What do you think?
The “Jan Brady” car finally gets closer to Marsha!
@@apricity69 hahahahaha
Which wheel/tire package is on your buddy's dual motor sport, 19 or 20 inch? I wonder if the 18 inch package would even be a bit quicker. The 18's weigh 47# per corner. I have heard that the 19 and 20 inch weigh more.
The AWD+ has the 19" Wheels.
19” wheels would be lighter and more aerodynamic than the 20”, could be one of the reasons these were so close?
@@greghagen6711 I've tried aftermarket staggered 20" wheels and tires on my long range, dual motor Model 3. The loss of power and range was noticable. The handling was better and the look was superb. But I went back to the 18' without the aero caps for the best balance of looks and performance. I'm wondering if anyone in this thread has tried 18's on a P3D?
Lance LaCour I have a P3D and debating on whether to go with 18” or 19” wheels for winter tires. I’ve seen a lot of information saying the smaller the better but not sure if I like the looks of the smaller wheels. Thanks for the feedback.
Corwow has also tested the performance between the model 3 versions.
The LR also accelerates better at higher speeds.
I spent over $10k for Performance... this is a bit too close... need ludicrous for M3P
Joseph Wolfgram Same here. I’m really happy for the AWD owners, but feeling I wasted my money if they’re this close.
Judging by the current rumor mill, you may get your Ludicrous mode before too long..
I'll trade my AWD with the boost for either of your Performance versions, I'm still kicking myself for not just buying one when it came out I. The summer of 2018z
It's closer, but M3P still has a lot going for it - I discuss it here:
I tested the boost upgrade before/after, getting 0-60 and 1/4 mile times with the dragy.
I also extrapolate times for different states of charge, based on previous data.
I then do a full analysis of the better times and discuss how this is not the same as getting a full 5% HP increase and whether it is worth the money.

You guys received a 5k refund. Stop crying. If you guys get ludacris, the we LR should get a software unlock. You guys are already pulling high 2
