    It’s time for a Tesla Model 3 Performance drag race!
    We’ve got our hands on the first edition of the Model 3 Performance to hit our shores, and it’s about to go head-to-head against the all-new edition!
    So let’s see how the two compare. For starters, the older car isn’t actually a full-blown Performance - it’s a Model 3 with a Performance Pack added to it. Even so, it still comes with two electric motors which combine to produce 450hp and 640Nm of torque. The two motors also mean the car has all-wheel drive, and it weighs in at 1,850kg. Back in 2020 the car cost around £58,000.
    As for the newer car, it offers almost identical stats. The two motors offer all-wheel drive and combined they produce 460hp and 650Nm. It weighs in at 1,839kg, and as new it costs around £60,000.
    So they offer almost identical performance, but will the newer technology prevail? There’s only one way to find out... LET’S RACE!

    No matter how many times it has been explained in the comments Matt keeps drag racing Teslas in track mode. But it’s been pointed out many times in these comments that track mode sacrifices and decreases straight line acceleration drag performance by reducing acceleration and torque in order to maximize track performance by not overheating the drivetrain. Track mode is meant for track performance not dragstrip mode. On the track your drivetrain is optimized for longevity not max performance so it doesnt overheat after hard acceleration

    At 9:18 in the video you see that they were testing the new car in Track Mode which absolutely destroys straight line acceleration because it cools the battery off. If you have it in Track Mode and then stop or even get out of the car completely it will continue to chill the battery even while it is parked. While they sit there chatting they are just destroying the car’s performance. This test completely misrepresents what these cars are actually capable of.

      I ordered my M3P at the beginning of July 2018 when they first started offering them. If you ordered an M3P in July 2018, you got free lifetime supercharging. It was impossible to order before July and if you ordered starting in August, you didn’t get that option. My car didn’t have the dual motor badge nor the one with the red line under it (this is what tells you it is a Performance version). I went in to Tesla in 2021 for some maintenance and they decided to put that badge on. The technician was confused at first because I have the stock aero wheels and brakes so he assumed I didn’t have the performance edition. I had him look it up and he was surprised. So now it has the correct badge on it.
      I remember getting the update you are referring to. It dropped the advertised 0-60 time from 3.2 seconds to 2.9 seconds.

    The new M3P, outside of America, is gimped by its LG battery pack. Compared to the Panasonic pack used in America, it can't hit the same peak discharge, and its performance drops off faster as state of charge drops. (As a fun bonus, it'll heat up faster when being hammered on a track.)
    In the real world, on the road, it's pretty close to irrelevant. But for folks in the UK, the best M3P in terms of power is probably the cars from 2021 to early 2022, which had an 82kWh Panasonic pack.

    Good lord, reading this comment section is painful. It's amazing how nearly zero percent of you understand ICE or EV technology. Some of you either forgot or ignored how ICE vehicles respond to increasing temps (especially air intake and oil temps) and that fuel heating is a real thing (for those of you going "Dur, ICE no impact by low fuel!" [sic]. Others don't understand that when you charge a battery the voltage is highest when fully charged and that voltage drops rapidly as you use the battery. You need to go look at a battery discharge curve so you see the the massive falloff of voltage (spoiler alert: higher voltage=higher current=higher power).
    This falloff in power affects every high performance EV, it isn't just a Tesla thing. Now, it's not very apparent in slow EVs because they're just that...slow. You know, like most EVs on the market? Because only Tesla and a select few other brands have made vehicles that do 4 second or lower 0-60, everyone else seems to be producing EVs that are as slow as typical V6 cars.

      @thedumbconspirator4956 2 месяца назад +1

      @@georgevigil7001 this also affects the ioniq 5N. Hyundai cannot cheat physics. The difference between this car and Hyundai i5N is that the i5N actually doesn't provide you with peak power. That's hidden except for few seconds behind the NGB mode. That way they give you the illusion of consistent power when the real peak is in NGB. After that they're actually throttling back power to a more manageable level. Same with the taycan and other cars with "boost" functions.

    Each year there might have been some minor improvement done, until we got the new Highland Performance model which basically changed many things instead of minor things. But as we can see, the difference is very small which makes sense based on the specs. The real improvement of the new model is the revamped motors, revamped suspension and noise cancellation as well as much lighter set of wheels with bigger grip since the rear wheels are wider (10" vs 9" of the older model). Most new owners say the ride is a better ride and you can feel a better kick on higher speeds when you step on the accelerator. Overall, the highland Performance is a much better vehicle than the previous one, but do not expect a crazy difference on acceleration. If that is what you are looking for, you have ot pay much more and get a Model S Plaid. Plain and simple.
