The Acceleration Boost Adds How Much Power?!

- We added Tesla's acceleration boost to my Long Range Model Y and were shocked by the power it added. I answer the question of it being worth $2,000 and test the 0-60 times before and after to see what the difference is.

FINALLY. FINALLY A VIDEO THAT DOES THIS CORRECTLY 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Just got mine 2 days ago and have the performance boost. What an amazing driving experience...
Thank you for this man. Ive been searching for this answer!!
I also recently added AB to my Model 3 and I love it. (I referred my wife who bought a new Model Y. Win win!)
I also think Chill mode is a little boosted as well. Chill feels almost as good as standard did before, but not quite... so for winter driving in Canada, Chill works well now... and for the summer time, I'll go for Sport.
I’ve been waiting years to see this done on the Y with the Dyno awesome video very very good!!! The best man thanks for doing all your videos been following from day 1.
Yeah! I've been wanting to see this as well. Some people have been saying that it only adds around 50hp. Clearly it adds much more than that.
I have a Model Y with Acceleration Boost. I've usually been telling people that it has around 420hp... but I guess I can tell them now that it's actually around 460hp!
Great content Gjeebs! I just used my points too for my acceleration boost. HUGE difference. I didn't realize it was 100HP more though. Good to know!
"If it flies, it spies!" 🤣 I'm still laughing. Good stuff.
Interesting info on the acceleration boost. I'd definitely use a referral credit for it. $2,000 though, I'm too cheap haha. It is honestly a good deal though for those who have the cash.
I agree with chill mode affect. I’ve been driving mine in chill mode for a couple months. I put it in standard last weekend and oh boy…woke me up it did!
Same! Drove on standard for my commute to work this morning and damnnn. Forgot how quick the car was!
True! I am in chill 90% or the time and the difference when in sport is shocking lol
Thank you very much sir! Great video, now I need to get a Dragy. 🚗🔋
By the way your 0-60 time will greatly differ then other cars due to teslas amazing traction control. 0 wheel spin on launch is insane
This is the kind of content I’ve been looking for!
I have the MYP apparently it puts out 560bhp worth noting this is at the wheels! The equivalent ice would need 650bhp the rest lost in the transmission.
Good info. Thanks.
Cool video. Can you now compare it with a MYP? Roll race maybe? Out in Mexico of course
Another great video. Thank you!
Adding 100hp to an ice vehicle will generally cost well over 2k (unless the vehicle is boosted and you can tweak boost to increase power).
Made about 150 on my 340i for about ~$600 with a dp and tune. Still bought the acceleration boost though, think it’s an okay deal for someone who wants a little more speed
@@superweeb6969 You must not be in CA, because there isn't a CARB legal DP that I know of.
@@dashcam3553😂 us tuners don’t care about CAs emission laws. There’s something called hot smog. If you know you know.
For my car it will cost 11k to add 489 wheel horsepower from the stock 300wheel horsepower for a total of 789wheel horsepower on e85 of course. Not bad considering you could get the vr30 for 22k in a q50 sedan. However the q60 looks much better. You could also get the base nissan z since it’s the lightest variant. Stock block by the way.
Adding 100hp to an electric vehicle means you’ll use the battery faster.
Excellent video yet again. Keep the content coming.
I use chill mode for the snow / winter then set it back for to normal for the spring/ summer. That’s good enough for me to experience the difference.
Thanks for the discount code, just ordered those sunshades. 😊
another great Video Ben.. love your stuff.. fun fact, your Tesla video had an add for an Ionic and how it beats model 3. haha.. -Mark
What kind of dyno do they have? Dyno Dynamics, Mustang? These are known as heartbreaker dyno's. Looking at your dyno it begins to taper down at about 65 and again at 80. Looking forward to the days we can tune towards consistent power if not flatter power band. This is good.
all this 2000$ upgrade does is tells the controler to pull more amps from the bat pack, that is all there is. Charging that kind of money for it is pure genious from TESLA.
So you're saying a simple software tweak that tells the computer to draw more amps from the battery is genius because some owners are stupid enough to pay $2000 for 0.6 seconds.
@@rkgsd Difference between paying for a Performance model.
@@Trust_but_Verifyit’s half the price of the performance model upgrade. And you also get the comfort suspension with the LR
@@06silverfire Performance model's standard suspension mode isn't the same as comfort suspension mode in LR?
Standard: relaxed/calm character offering significant comfort and absorption improvement but still well controlled and engaging to drive in all conditions.
Sport: elevates damping control for faster settling times to increase connection with the road during focused driving and improves steering response but still adapts to rougher roads.
Picked up a Model Y on Sunday and added the AB while charging it on the way home. I only have about 30 minutes driving time on a stock Y but I'm pretty happy with the AB. It will definitely smoke the X4 M340 I traded in. LOL Thanks for the video.
Wish adding FSD was that quick after purchase. So true about going to chill mode and back normal.
Yea I was amazed how fast it was
I just got my first Tesla two days ago I got the 2023 model three long range. I owned a lot of fun cars and I usually mod them with a tune, intake, exhaust, etc.. What interesting about this video is for $2000 the amount of power you get versus a internal combustion engine, trying to mod car to get another hundred horsepower would cost close to 5 to 10,000 depending on which way you go a turbo kit with the installation and everything else you need might get you another hundred horsepower but it will definitely cost you another five to $10,000
Agreed. In addition, the HP gain here is AT THE WHEELS. To get that means achieving an ICE engine increase of ~115HP at the flywheel.
So, 100hp for a Long Range/Standard Range? What is the power output of the Performance Y? Great job!!
I've got a Model 3 dual motor here in Thailand. For some reason (which Tesla won't share) acceleration boost is not available. 😕
More than enough power still. I put my MYP to "chill" mode as it's just insane acceleration for daily driving in "sport" mode. This is with 21" uberturbines, but my plan is du reduce to 18 or 19" uberturbines lookalike wheels which should give both better comfort and acceleration and better range over when doing 70+ mph
How long did you keep the white wrap on the glass roof?
Hey. What wrap or PPF do you have on the hood?
THANK YOU for this video. Great
You're welcome! I have been planning it for years but didn't want to pay 2k for the boost haha
I don’t see how the MYLR with AB could feel the same as a P if the difference is larger than the one from LR to LR w/AB
i have a SR/RWD Model 3. So jealous of those with LRs that can add this.
Was a good opportunity missed to test both Chill modes too, are they the same?
Great Video! Greetings from germany 🇩🇪
Love my boosted Model Y 😁
If you can demo the upgrade... suddenly you can come up with $2000 no problem. An additional half a second less to 60 doesn't sound like much but if you feel it, WOAH!!! For 100 HP, $2000 is pretty cheap, if you've ever modded gas cars. I got a 3 dual motor and OMG, it pulls HARD even if I'm already going 75 mph. If people don't want to let you over or something, of for whatever reason they're being a d ck, you can leave them in the dust SOOO hard! Hahaha! The first time that happened, I was snickering so hard I was crying! I didn't just leave him in the dust, I was frikin GONE and i saw his front end lift up and he had a big cloud of black smoke behind him, he was absolutely flooring it, and he fell back like a kleenex that was dropped out the window, it was not a fair fight AT ALL, hahaha! ...but after a while, everyone will have an EV and it won't mean anything anymore.
I have a 2019 model 3 and put AB on it a couple months after I got it. It is well below 4 seconds 0-60. I think the Model Y is really a different class of car, so I'm not sure it would be worth it on a Model Y.
Normal is already fast as he….ll in my MS100D….. drop steering in sport, drop ride hight and I’m good. But this is a solid upgrade.
I would like to know what the horsepower output in chill mode...
Thank you so much!!! How much range do I loose on my model Y long range of get this upgrade??? Please let me know!!
If you drive in chill mode you won't lose any but if you drive in sport you may lose 15 miles.
can you do test on acceleration with different wheels?
I changed my Model Y order from Perf to LR so I can get a tow hitch and extra savings. I’m most curious how AB affects the 30-70 rip for getting on the freeway/passing. I barely floor my ICE car but the passing abilities of an EV are the most appealing performance characteristics.
I remember test driving both the LR and perf back to back. To me there was no difference from 30-90 onto a highway. So I ordered a LR and haven’t been disappointed.
I have AB and the gain is exactly where you want ir to be. After 70mph theres practically no gain vs srandard. It’s all before 60mph really, which is where I want my car to accelerate quickly anyway. But yeah it’s a pretty big difference
@@JV-py3lg I seem to recall a video where they did a rolling start from 30 with a LRP and P, and they were pretty much the same. From what I hear the P has a punch from launch that the LRP doesn't.
@@JV-py3lgmore like 70+mph 30 mph the p takes off from lr and ab cars
Thats why we sold our Tesla MYP. The acceleration which is important on Autobahn from 100kmh-200kmh was that slow that regular X3 Diesels where overtaking me.
Love my Y and the acceleration boost makes a huge difference
What is the name of the application that u use to measure 0 to 60?
I got the acceleration boost from a referral, 10,000 points. 9,500 points for the boost was absolutely worth the free, $2,000, boost.
My last day in Phoenix. Thanks for the info/entertainment. Back to California.
Gjeebs , what do Tesla owners do about a Full Spare . Im thinking of buying a Y and i out about 4000 miles a month on my vehicles , ie Im on the Road a lot .
Much appreciated!! Im trying so hard to get that referral 😂😂
Now we need a Model Y Performance and a Ghosted MY LR tested on that same dyno under the same charge conditions.
Should make the decision price point value clearer for whether to buy a Performance or add acceleration boost or consider Ghosting an LR model.
It would be a first, since afaik have Not seen this test done back to back Anywhere
I had AB on M3LR then added Ghost module. It was night and day improvement in power
To add 100 HP to a gas powered car would be way more than $2k unless you did Nitros or already have a turbo. But then you are most likely going to be in the shop spending money for repairs. I've done both and and it was a money pit. Plus, you can just use referral points to upgrade.
Should have done that first pass over. Something strange happened with their dyno with that dip mid range. Don’t think it would have been 100hp if it was clean like the 2nd run. More like 50hp
Correct. Gives ~50hp.
That first pull sucked. Lol
Totally tucked up.
Thank you for doing this video , 👍🏻
Is chill mode the same?
I’ve been waiting for a video like this. I wonder how much the model 3 would get since it’s 0-60 in 3.7 with boost.
It is the same. Around 100 HP but it is a little lighter weight. 0-100 kn/h just under 4 seconds
It also changes the power balance quite much adding power to the front wheels - beware if you accelerate in wet tarmac if it is not straight - it can powerslide on all 4.
I had it on my 2019 since December that year. It was a lot of fun initially - now I use it more rarely.
@@renebergqvist599 I use it every now and then at the lights lol
Used my referral points the other day to get the boost on my 3LR. It's a huge difference. I love it! even at 60mph it jumps good, but 0 up to 30 is great!!!
My 0-60 on my boosted dual motor is 3.54s with rollout using draggy.
I just clocked 0-60 at 3.84. So. I'm happy.
Sweet. Love this option.
Can your Dragy calculate 0-60 with rollout?
This would be a closer comparison to the Performance.
Only did 1 run with my Dragi and it clocked 0-60 mph in 4.23s. On the same run the 0-60(1ft rollout) shows 4.00s. Very happy with the acceleration boost.
Hi Gjeebs! I also saw the Model Y roof sunshades from VION you recommended. Which one is better? I love the VION one so far!
yes,I love VION too
My Model X Performance got two 50hp upgrades and the difference between the two 50s before and after.... your eyes tingle when you launch with a full charge and cheetah mode.....
Does it affect the range? But yeah I agree that it should be 3 modes and better include track mode for this particular price.
It will affect range some because it is using more power
No, it was tested by other guys. If you drive the car in the same way before / after the boost it will not affect consumption. If you floor it, then it offcourse uses more power for that instance only.
What wheels are those?
GJeebs _. What type , size are your wheels ? And Everyday Tires ?
You can easily get 100+hp for under 1k on supercharged or turbo cars. A couple of hundred $ got me around that on my 04 cobra with bolt ons. But a N/A car you can spend thousands for an extra 50hp.
This is a really good result and well worth the money imo.
Then again you'll be kicking yourself you didn't get the even faster performance model.
Hello Gjeebs. I have one question and one suggestion for you :-). Question: If I got it right, you tested power of the car only on the interval 0-60mph and after bosst testing machine measured over 460hp. Since Tesla Y LR has 514hp without boost, it looks to me that if you are going to higher speed 120-150mph you could reach more power? Of course, that tester has its limits I assume... So, question is: those 360+ or 460+ hp are connected with speed 0-60mph, right? And my suggestion is to make test of maximum power of TMYLR. Or, do you know, how much power does the car have? It could be 514+100? Or I red somewhere number sth. over 50hp added by boost? Do you know the answer? Thank you very much.
How is the difference in passing speed? For example 20-50 or 50-80 mph?
You really feel it between 50-80 with the booost!
Holy cr@p. I thought it would be around 50hp gain too. I might have to get that!
I just seen this vid and I'm definitely getting it!
The graph from the « before » dyno is wonky as hell I think it messed the peak hp part. It probably not 100hp peak hp gain.
What did the lady say about why it doesn’t work?
@4:30 I could not understand what the off-camera guy said about why they could not measure torque.
Measurement at the flywheel. Maybe.. and EV doesnt have one.
Copied from my other reply: The dyno needs engine RPM to calculate torque since a dyno is basically just a big electric generator that's measuring the kilowatt output and converting to HP. With engine RPM you can calculate torque. You could calculate a rough torque if you knew the gear ratio, road speed, and tire diameter.
Some dynos use a brake and force sensor and only calculate torque, then with RPM you can calculate HP.
If a gas car didn’t already have a turbo or a supercharger from factory, your looking at having to go full bolt on & e85 in order to get 100+ hp on a v8, there is very few v6 you could do it with too. But to be FBO and e85, you would need a tune so anywhere from like 4k on the very low end to like 7k lol (parts, labor, tune)
So for 2k it’s honestly amazing bang for your buck
What year is this?
😊
All the numbers sound wrong to me.
What year LR is this? Cos they don’t weigh 4400lb.
Also the stock M3LR 0-60 should be 4.2s and with Acceleration Boost come down further from that. Possibly as low as 3.9 according to some sources.
So what are you doing wrong to get only 4.7 stock? Not high enough SoC? Battery not warm enough?
How much the acceleration boost affects range/efficiency if you don't drive aggressively?
None.
I'm not sure if this is true of the LR or base model, but on the Model 3 Performance you can get a difference of up to 200HP based on the temperature and SOC of the battery. Learningfast has a video on it
I mean 200hp is stretched. Maybe possible between low SOC and 20f weather vs high SOC and 90f. But that can be the case with other models too
@@louisolivierfortin Here's the video if you want to see his measurements. ruclips.net/video/5-UhGJm8RjU/видео.html
The measurements seem accurate because he is also confirming it with drag race times. I don't know if this is a quirk of the performance model where it will just dump as much as the batteries can provide into the motors and if the other models are hard capped on discharge, but apparently for the best drag times you need to constantly precondition the battery.
@@g.4279 I do think it’s exclusively for the performance model. I did dragy tests on my 2023 LR 3 + AB and it basically does the same exact 1/8mile and trap speed at 95% and 70%. About 7,66 @ 93mph. Tried preconditioning the battery and saw no improvement whatsoever.
@@louisolivierfortin Interesting. You should make a video about it and reach out to him! A lot of people were wondering if the LR and base models were software capped.

What is the torque difference?
Great video
I just bought the performance model 🥴 absolutely love it
Yea it's an incredible vehicle. I am going to Dyno a performance soon
How does a sun shade help your car run more efficiently ?
The cabin stays cooler so less AC is used
This is especially awesome to witness for those of us that may have “buyers remorse” for not getting the MYP… anything around 4 secs 0-60 is NOTHING to sneeze at. Now .. I wonder if Elon will run a, “this week only sale!” 🤔 🍀 lol
Horsepower and Torque are a function of each other. If one is inaccurate than I dont see how you would figure the other is accurate.
Do you still have the tparts carbon spoiler on your car that you reviewed? Mine started delaminating after only 3 months.
Yes I still have mine on. Have you sent their customer service an e-mail to get it replaced?
@@GjeebsYes I sent them an email but got no response. Was going to give it another try.
My performance Model Y got 569 HP lol id love to see that here
Whoever told you they can’t measure torque is just wrong. You can’t measure horsepower. You measure torque at an rpm and that is horsepower. Yes, that is torque at the wheels so it is much higher than torque at the motor. However, you just divide the wheel torque by 9.0363:1 and that is the “motor wheel torque”.
Finally someone with a brain mentions the stupid torque bs the guy gave.
Why didn't you do multiple Dyno runs, we can't tell if there is variance so going by tenths is kind of pointless if you don't have accuracy.
I have a question... If it's 100extra hp why tesla is advertising only 50? Just curious...
I’m contemplating on getting a Y LR with 20” Induction Wheels vs Performance 21” Uberturbine Wheels. I don’t get it because currently the price difference is $2k and the Range Estimate which I know isn’t actual but the LR gets 318 miles vs Performance 303 miles. So why get the LR with 20” Induction Wheels and add boost for $2k when you can currently just pay $2k more for Performance? Also the LR do you really only get about 15 more miles vs Performance?
The only reason to get the LR Y is if you want the third row as you can’t get the third row with the P. But otherwise you are right, might as well get the P
@@WillowMint thanks and yes I don’t need the 3rd row. I had a 2011 Range Rover Supercharged for the last 9yrs bought it used for $60k with 32k mileage msrp $105k. I put on 100k mileage and I only got 300 miles range for a full tank fill up 24 gallons which now premium is $5/gallon so $120. So I guess if I only get 250 range on 90% charge then it’s about the same as MYP! I loved my Range Rover Supercharged luxury full size SUV!
Does this bring the power level to the same as the Model Y Performance or does the performance have a bit more in it?
There’s be several videos where they raced, and the performance will slightly beat it every time.
The performance is still faster from a dig. But once up to speed they are neck and neck.

What’s the hp in chill mode?
Great question, I'll do that next
I love that there is an option to juice up the Model Y LR. Maybe one day. But for now, I've switched 100 miles back to "Chill" mode in an effort extend my charges and more importantly tire life. If I had that extra power and used it very often I'd be beggaring myself replacing the tires. So at least for now I'll augment my marginal self control by not giving myself the opportunity to leave all that rubber on the road. But, maybe one day .... :)
Are you on OEM tires and how many miles do you want the tires to last?
@@Trust_but_Verify I've put about 1,000 miles on the tires that Tesla put on the car. I'd love to get 40,000 miles, but I'd not be surprised were it only half that. I've not looked into exactly which tires are on the car but they hold the road so well when whipping around turns and accelerating or braking hard that I assume they're an expensive, soft formulation. So, I've decided to learn to drive more sedately. Autopilot helps with that. It can actually make it fun to just hang in the slower lanes for short trips.
Need to do the test 0-100 miles
Times pretty much the same till 30m/h
Y is your Tesla model Y long Range better than a Performance model Y? #1 the Price #2 the smaller wheels don’t brake when you hit a pot hole #3 your ride is smoother #4 Tires are cheaper! #5 Tires last Longer! #6 your Ride is Quieter!
