Just rented a Model Y from Hertz for the weekend and went up to the Grand Canyon. ZERO anxiety about charging. Tesla's are SOOO smooth. I'll be getting one SOON!
Buddy, you seriously crack me up. Love the riffing through this. Also, your premise is spot on, I’m telling people all the time that on my first road trip I lost all range anxiety.
I just took my 2023 Model 3 RWD on an over 10,000 mile road trip over 6 weeks.... LA to Branson to Chicago to Branson to Ft Lauderdale to NY to LA... NO ISSUES at all. And @gjeebs is so right.. you meet the same people at superchargers city after city and get to know the cities!
Agreed. Range does not matter on road trips. Your taking the trip to enjoy the drive, not get there as fast as possible. If that was the case you'd buy a plane ticket. Again, its a road trip and your doing thus for a fun memory or experience...enjoy the drive and relax. Autopilot or fsd and its a who new driving experience. Sit back and enjoy.
Plane ticket is not all it’s cracked up to be.. this week it took 30 hours to fly into Chicago from Tampa after 7 delays and a cancelled flight on United Returning it took 9 hours after 2 delays ….and I thought I was saving time by flying instead of taking my Tesla on a road trip😳

I let you do the test and learn for me, so thanks so much for that. I let my new Model Y get down to 3% on my first road trip and juiced up at a 250k. Couldn’t even finish my taco before she was ready to go again.
That's what I always tell people - I never finish my meal or snack before it's done charging. I honestly think the oil companies pay people to troll every article or video on EVs, which is why so many people are scared to get an EV.
Great video. I love seeing your road trips. I am doing my first road trip in aug in my MY LR, Going from new brunswick canada to orlando fl. 2750 klm or 1700 miles. Very excited for the trip.
Your videos are fun. I like how you ramble on and dont have these prepared texts. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone use the term blowing it out after dropping a deuce. Thanks!
Haha Cline’s Corners! I camped there & charged my MYLR last fall! The hotel I was going to stay at in Amarillo was full and Cline’s was as far as I could go without passing out!
I love your videos and this drive brings back a lot of memories. I lived in Phoenix for 20 years and have made that I40 drive many times on my way to Chicago. I have had my model y long range for about 6 weeks now and have over 3500 miles. It’s a great road trip car! They just need to work on some of the details like ride quality, auto wipers, auto high beams, cameras that don’t say they are blocked because it’s dark outside, but between the price, the performance, the range, the tax credit and the supercharger network it’s the most logical choice for an electric car… at least in my opinion 😊
I noticed the Autopilot got significantly better on a road trip to OKC this week. We’re Snowbirds from the Philly area and drive to Venice Beach Florida for the winter, approximately 1,600 miles. This is our first long distance drive in our Tesla M3LR and we really enjoyed it. We can no longer do it in 2 days like before, but understanding that in advance we made reservations at three hotels on the way down and an additional hotel (Savannah Ga) for a beautiful visit. The upside, all that you mentioned, including the FSD Supervised. On highways it was incredibly, on city streets great, but not perfect. The extra hotels added costs and time to get to both locations, but it’s well worth it, especially when you understand EV Reality. Love my Tesla, I’m an early adopter, love new technology and have done enough research to truly understand that “forced” EV adaptation is STUPID, and counterproductive. I’m a new Subscriber, looking forward to your videos. Thanks so
Totally agree.... 500,300,200... I find 2-3 hours of driving is the magic number regardless of "range" ... also, the smallest bladder in the car determines the range needed.
Thanks for all this information on your road trip and alternate places to connect to and charge the Tesla. Nice to know there are other plugs we can purchase besides the Tesla mobile package they sell when we buy the vehicle. Take care.
I took a trip from Leesburg VA to Sea Island, GA in my Model X LR. The planning is easy and the stops necessary. Made it easy. The car planned the stops.
Last September, I drove my Model Y from Oklahoma to Montana and back over four days. The vehicle ran great, and cost me approximately $360 in supercharging. Negatives, however, were the lack of supercharging stations in the northwest, and the poor location of some stations, especially when arriving late at night.
I owned a 2019 3 SR+ for 4.5 years and going from that to the Model Y LR AWD, on ~370 mile road trips the Y makes the trips 1-2 hours shorter than it was in the SR+. Instead of charging slower because you want to spend longer at a stop, charge as quickly as possible then park your car somewhere else to free up the charger. So as you would when fuelling a gas car 😉
Made the trip from Mesa to Missouri last month in my Model 3LR. You got the bathroom at Burger King at Holbrook right on! The limitations of where you can charge are a negative though. Holbrook is a perfect example. I would have preferred to take a southern route through NM (Las Cruces, Rowell, Clovis) to avoid I-40. You can't do it. There are no superchargers. Love your humor though, the semi-functional lock on the stall was right on!

Thanks Gjeebs. I am only a couple of days away from picking up my Model Y and was not sure what might happen if I needed to make a long road trip. Your video makes me WANT to take a road trip.

You should do a video about living in a Model Y, should anyone get kicked out of their house, evicted etc.. it would be a do-able situation, staying at campgrounds, parking lots etc.
I've used an rv plug. But I would say it's much easier using the tesla mobile connector with the 14-50 tesla adapter. I bought the 6 different connector adapters from tesla I think it was 200$ and I can use any plug style.
Love your Chanel, funny and informative. FYI I have a MY like yours (June 2020) and I find the suspension too hard. Just got 18’ wheels and it made a difference. Martian wheels 18’ look cool and they’re superlight and my efficiency didn’t change at all
Love your videos, a lot of humor. I’ve had a Tesla Model Y LR for about a year now. I’ve never taken a roadtrip, but I do 100 mi roundtrips fairly frequently. I think back on many of my previous roadtrips, and I wonder how I would feel about being off the beaten path. Places like Death Valley, feeling like I could go way off the Interstate, without worrying about overnight charging somewhere in the middle of nowhere…
Just picked up my MY (upgraded from a 3SR+) last week and your channel has helped me so much get over range anxiety! Also used to get plenty of accessories! Looking forward to taking a road trip in it! Great video per usual! Keep it up!
Thank you Gjeebs, I myself am in a similar situation, afraid to give up my nursing license to do work in IT. Already working in IT right now, which is so fulfilling and exactly what I wanted, but scared to give up my license.
Never sell your Tesla, I'm very curious what will happen to it after 5-8 years :) Such a long-distance test is the best! Good luck and greetings from Poland!
I miss the green regen line, that disappeared on one of the major updates back in april or may 2024. I have the model 3 refresh. Just. WOW. 2 road trips this summer, one to canada, one to montana and arizona. Super-charging.....so, Yeah.....
For road tripping in a Tesla, there are still several places in the country that need better infrastructure still. I drove my Tesla Model Y LR from Alabama to Colorado but opted to take I-40 across since there was a blizzard in Kansas. I didn't do much research ahead of time because I've never had a problem before. I found it strange that the Tesla navigation really wanted me to go up to Tulsa then to OKC. The issue was there was a 195 mile stretch of I-40 (between Ft Smith and OKC) without any chargers. I've made that gap before, but the additional issue was a 30-40 mph head wind - which severely impacted my range. Well, I made it to OKC by driving 15mph under the speed limit for most of the trip - with only 2% to spare. Honestly the only time I was truly nervous about making it to the next charger. Tesla is adding a charger at the mid-point - which will make I-40 a viable route soon. I think this will be mostly worked out in the next few years. I've taken the same trip via I-20 and I-70 respectively without any problems - so I was surprised to see such a gap still on the Interstate system. I've also noticed charging is a bit sparse in the northern Plains.
New subscriber and wading through all past tubes. Loving the humour and everything Tesla. Halfway through this video and smiling. I think it’s time you jump on a plane, hop the pond and visit your friends here in the UK chap! Rent a Tesla and have a marathon road trip from Cornwall, through London, Nottingham, Liverpool and on to Scotland. The Welsh roads in Wales are unbelievable on the west coast! Just a serving suggestion 😊 Have fun, from your friends in Blighty old boy 😊
Great travel vlog! Looking forward to when most hotels have level-2 chargers. Ideally they’d be able to have enough for any EV that stays the night but they could also have someone move extension cords around in the middle of the night to stretch their charging infrastructure a bit further.
EV owners should encourage them to charge wholesale electric pricing instead of having other guests subsidize the cost. Then, we could expect hotels to roll out more chargers. We are gonna need them soon!
@@markhovis8033 there are several ways to get the EV driving guests to pay for the kWh they use - to setup the logistics.. Hotels could make it a profit center if they want.. Charging an EV off-peak rates might cost $5 to $10… If a hotel didn’t want to get into meters and all that they could just make EV guests pay to park in stalls that have outlets - flat rate. Limit the charger outlet current to match the amount of electricity the fee covers. I believe there are charge point operators they could contract with too. But a question they’ll have to answer is whether to provide lodging in an all-inclusive way, or more a la carte, charging customers for just what they use? I rarely eat anything in the “free breakfast” at hotels because it’s usually sugary garbage, but I don’t have a choice to opt out, so I subsidize the folks that tank up at the feed trough… I don’t watch cable TV but I have to pay for that. I don’t use the pool or hot tub… Or the exercise room… Etc. Is the EV charging outlet an amenity? Or a service?
When my Xmas flight was cancelled and I drove overnight in single digit temps with snow tires from Colorado to Tennessee, the range was enough. Sure when weather and other factors are great 330 is more than enough. However, with less than ideal 400 is needed or maybe a more true 330 would be good.
Thank you for your inspirational message. I need to spend time thinking about what really makes me happy and how I can turn that into additional income. So awesome you were able to quit your job and do YT full time!
I've done that trip so many times. That burger king in Holbrook is nasty. So happy they opened that 250 KW in Albuquerque. Just not enough chargers at the Chili's. You mentioned the BBQ at the E. Amarillo SC. Did you try it? It's very good if not. Nothing beats hotel charging on a road trip though.
Gjeebs, regarding your comment on Energy and Wind, here is a quick rundown from the US EIA database. "Combined wind and solar share of total generation increased from 12% in 2021 to 14% in 2022. Hydropower generation remained unchanged, at 6%. Nuclear is 19%. Texas accounted for 26% of total U.S. wind generation last year.
Range figures are only best scenario estimates for EVs. Real world operation, with any variation in roadway incline or any variation in cross wind, Head wind etc. are going to vastly reduce assumed range. I’m not surprised to see a Tesla Y achieve a less than 180mi range, on an interstate that cuts through mountainous areas. If it were operated on surface streets in hilly areas, the range would be far less. ….. Once a battery operated vehicle reaches 50% battery life, it begins to loose range at a higher rate, compared to a charge rate above 50%. …. The advertised rates for EVs are for operation AT the least, wind resistant speed, on completely flat terrain, with no parasitic devices operating (HVAC, Sound Sys, Tablet Monitor etc.). Conditions in which most EVs will never be operated by their owners. …. Further, EV batteries, start to loose range as they cycle during use. An EV with 15k miles will have less charge retention than a new EV, and as the vehicle approaches, 50k miles, it overall charge retention is down by 10% to 15%. That next 50k will see a far greater loss in charge compared to the first 50k miles (expect a 25% to 40% loss in potential charge retention) This is simply a fact of Lithium ion battery degradation. At 150k the EV will not be able to retain 60% of its initial charge retention. The more the owner operates and recharges their EV, the quicker charge retention degrades. Rapid charging you EV degrades the battery faster than slow charging the battery.
Agree. Wind turbines are cool in how they convert energy, but there’s been way too many otherwise beautiful mountainsides ruined with speckled turbines.
While I used to drive for 4 or 5 hours without stopping, having an EV that forces you to stop and rest every 2 or 3 hours is really good for the driving while sleepy issue. With him being in the West, though, a bit more range would be helpful. My roadtrips are only on the East Coast, though, so finding superchargers isn't a concern.
@@TrainsFerriesFeet I mean, lets be honest, if you need to stop every 2-3 hours so you don't fall asleep at the wheel, there's a bigger issue there lol. Not only are you stopping more often, you're stopping for 30 minutes minimum.
I just bought the Austin built model Y and drove 171 miles starting with 100% charge and arrived at my destination with 38% left. It was a mix of Highway and backroads. I can’t believe how accurate the range is on this version. We set the car to only travel 5mph over the speed limit.
There really isn't that much hatred out there but there are those who would love us to think that there is, it serves their devious purposes to make us angry at each other.
I would prefer to have more range so when I travel for a round trip about 320 miles that I don’t have to stop for a quick charge specially here in CANADA Tesla rated 310 miles that you cannot ever get it close to it even trying 19” wheels
There is a use for spent wind turbine blades. They can be chopped up and added to asphalt for road surfacing. They must be profitable. Why do you think they keep putting so many up?
27:20 - I bet windmill blades are easier to deal with than nuclear waste. I find it odd that people make such a stink about wind turbine blades and nobody seems to care about mountains of garbage in every town because we can’t figure out what to do with our regular trash: Dig a big hole and throw it all in there and then covered up dirt. 🤦♂️🤷♂️
Gjeebs, love it, another good one. #EmpowerYourAdvemture sales plug and all. Agree with you about get out there and meet different people - that’s a good thing. Need to work on your singing tho.
quick question: what's the black layer on the front side of the vehicle? It's not PPF, because that wouldn't give that black color . Looks really great.
the windmill blades are now recyclable and they produce 15% to 18% from wind nation wide. For example Veolia and GE have partner and shred those blades into cement . Carbon Rivers transforms those blades since they are made mostly from fiberglass blades into textiles and other synthetic materials and Global Fiberglass turns those blades into railroad ties and plastic pellets; and Finally Vestas and partner's will take the epoxy refine it and reuse it for new blades. so is a win win.

Omg the gabs between the door and the wall in that toilet😮 I probably block when I'm about to p**p there! 😅
@ 12:23 😂 bro you wild for that one.
Motivational talk from 8:20 - 11:28, Thanks man, I Needed to hear that
Just picked up my MY (upgraded from a 3SR+) last week and your channel has helped me so much get over range anxiety! Also used to get plenty of accessories! Looking forward to taking a road trip in it! Great video per usual! Keep it up!
Thank you Gjeebs, I myself am in a similar situation, afraid to give up my nursing license to do work in IT. Already working in IT right now, which is so fulfilling and exactly what I wanted, but scared to give up my license.
and i busted my ass to get to this IT position because I believed in myself, something i haven't done ever before.
Never sell your Tesla, I'm very curious what will happen to it after 5-8 years :) Such a long-distance test is the best! Good luck and greetings from Poland!
I listened to the Lerner & Rowe self-made jingle no less than 25 times. Don't change a thing!
@17:33 in what ways is the shockflo better than the Tesla portable adapter at the RV park?
One earns commission and the other doesn't.
Shock flow EV or Tesla Mobile connector, which is better?
Good mindset and humor. ❤❤
Just came across your video, love it, I am in the UK and would love to travel across the US. Especially in a Tesla. Maybe one day.
I appreciate the support! I'll be over eventually
23:33 😂 felt that one.
New Sub, your jokes sealed it.
I'd love to hear more about you deciding to do YT full time.
Those Maui Jim’s are solid! Love the videos brother.
How do you tell how fast the super charger is as your drive up?
Thank you for your inspirational message. I need to spend time thinking about what really makes me happy and how I can turn that into additional income. So awesome you were able to quit your job and do YT full time!
I've done that trip so many times. That burger king in Holbrook is nasty. So happy they opened that 250 KW in Albuquerque. Just not enough chargers at the Chili's. You mentioned the BBQ at the E. Amarillo SC. Did you try it? It's very good if not. Nothing beats hotel charging on a road trip though.
The BBQ was sold out for the day so I couldn't. Maybe on the way back
I cross the street to the gas station/convenience store; much better baths
Bro, you can stop by my house in Albuquerque in the 505 charge for free. Plus we are both lefties on the course so we can play golf as well.
That would be sweet! I have my clubs too. Maybe on the way back
My wife never watches but that is all good! She drives the Y though. Keep chugging!
The Y is looking good with the hood mod and wheels - nice work!
THANKS ,GJEEBS,FOR HELPING EDUCATE US 🧐😎, and the practical tips 🤗😎💚💚💚
Gjeebs, regarding your comment on Energy and Wind, here is a quick rundown from the US EIA database. "Combined wind and solar share of total generation increased from 12% in 2021 to 14% in 2022. Hydropower generation remained unchanged, at 6%. Nuclear is 19%. Texas accounted for 26% of total U.S. wind generation last year.
27:09 fyi they have figured out how to recycle them.
Thank you man going to do this same trip next week!!!
You are funny and entertaining. You made the right move.
"All of those people out there who criticize you for doing something are sitting there doing nothing."
Great quote.
I don't even live in the US but I'm still enjoying the bathroom review!
hahaha good!
Agree. Wind turbines are cool in how they convert energy, but there’s been way too many otherwise beautiful mountainsides ruined with speckled turbines.
It toally matters, dude. I have a MY SR and have to constantly charge every 120-150mi
I have a long range
Range Always Matters. EV’s estimated range is never accurate on the highway so it is always a big deal.
Excellent vid. (Thx for ur family friendliness.) :)
I would prefer to have more range so when I travel for a round trip about 320 miles that I don’t have to stop for a quick charge specially here in CANADA
Tesla rated 310 miles that you cannot ever get it close to it even trying 19” wheels
Still watching but I saw a stop in the Tulsa area. Welcome. (I may add a comment after you stop there to make sure Tulsa wasn’t stupid)
quick question: what's the black layer on the front side of the vehicle? It's not PPF, because that wouldn't give that black color . Looks really great.
It actually is a PPF from STEK
@@Gjeebs awesome, is that carbon fiber instead of black matt?
We're in El Paso now headed to Cali. Coming up on Arizona
the windmill blades are now recyclable and they produce 15% to 18% from wind nation wide.
Only need 225-250 range with a Tesla. Are those Maui Jim sunglasses? What model? I like the shades.
Autopilot doesnt phantom brake if there's no sun--here in Colorado it's almost unusable bc it's so sunny a lot of the days
Thanks for sharing how to wash your Tesla I have issue with brake dust stuck on my Tesla which I can’t remove can you suggest something that would get rid of the yellow rust spots?
I came for the Tesla AZ Vlogs (I'm in Gilbert), but stayed for the out of pocket/random rants/comedic lawyer sing-alongs.
You should do a local meet up with Tesla owners.
