  • Today we dive into a video that has been on my mind and in the words for a LONG time. For the first time I put together all of the world's craziest VR hardware that anyone can purchase and recreated the setup found in Ready Player One's books/ movie.
Super high resolution VR Headset: Varjo XR3
    Omnidirection Treadmill: Katwalk C
    Bhaptics Full body haptics
VRFree Gloves ( stopped working really early on)
    Celia Scent module
    Full Body Tracking vs TundraTrackers
    And more-
All I have to say is.. I don't think we're quite ready for this.

    • @kami_dred7319

the problem is making it affordable for everyone and make the technology small so people have space to put in their homes. We could probably make an extremely realistic vr game like the oasis but it would be a waste of time because they’d probably have to make some sort of huge and expensive setup which would be hard to sell and make profit.

@markjvp like, i highly doubt there can be much of a hub for vr as a whole, BUT realistically speaking you might see platforms such as steam or epic (if they get heavily into vr) build out there platform homes such as steamvr home, to be something more akin to a hub, and make them into a much more desirable thing that people want to use. Like it kinda seems to me like that could be a really good marketing tool for getting people onto your vr platform.

Thrill, I just want to add up one thing.
You said "It failed as a proof of concept". But worked brilliantly as exactly that - proof of concept. You assembled everything together and it worked to the level you were trying to achieve. It doesn't matter at all if the software was not working together, it doesn't matter if some hardware parts were falling off during it - you were trying to prove that this is possible, this can be done with some time and dedication, maybe even to an easy to set up and use extend. All the "ifs" are out of the question when you just try to show "this is possible". And your results are astonishing

This seems really awesome! I hope our technology advances to a point where we can be in alternate virtual wolds as realistic as the real one as an average consumer! The only thing I'm afraid of is that once people are in they might not care as much to improve our actual reality. We should look to always be improving but having all your senses controlled through one System could be very dangerous and addictive really fast if there aren't posed any restriction on the technology.

Way back in the day when computers were fresh and new you had the same exact problem. No product worked on other systems. The IT conglomerate created a VERY good solution: The OSI model. A framework or physical device communication with seven layers.
The problem here is very similar. We need a VR OSI Model.

    • @oldmankatan7383
      @oldmankatan7383 2 года назад +16

I would recommend.... using the OSI model! LOL
The transport (4) and session (5) layers seem the most important to get the devices talking with each other, and then the presentation layer (6) would need an industry agreed upon common set of interactions that the application layer can call, and presentation does the translation from common calls to hardware specific functions.

I feel like if you had some dedicated game engine for VR that natively supported the various devices that would handle the issue of compatibility well.
Issue is of course making a game engine that actually does that in a seem less robust and modular way.
It’s honestly a bit like self driving cars. It we made the road with self driving cars in mind (and no human driven vehicles) we could simplify their design by an impressive margin. It’s through the need to interact with 1000+ things that these sort of things become needlessly complicated and end up falling apart conceptually.

I feel that the only way to reach 100% immersion in a virtual world would have to be a device that would be able to stimulate any sense the brain could receive directly in it, as well as having to take control of the actual nervous system of the body so that you could (theoretically) be in a dream like state where you could be completely immersed in a world and even forget reality exists.
What I described is just the Nervegear, if this type of technology existed in todays world the only outcome that would come out of it is humanity itself never wanting to leave the virtual world and leading to its extinction.
Or the people with the most power in the world would create a dystopia where everyone else on the planet would be their slaves or paid workers, in which, the people with power would just spend nearly their whole lives in a virtual world and keep doing that for all future generations until inevitable extinction of humanity comes.
Obviously this is theoretical but it seems very possible if this scenario happened imo.

Do people not already want to never leave the virtual world? This does not lead to extinction, though, because people still need to eat and make money to afford shelter and hardware upgrades and such. More immersive VR does not solve the fundamental problem of needing to go back to the physical world to maintain oneself.

What wade puts on is equivalent to the setup you donned, the highest tech, most immersive setup money can buy. Could also work by hardware lasting a long time so consumers can build up a nice setup over a long time period.

For me. All I would need is that treadmill and arm and leg tracking.I have a thing called phantom sense. I can smell things. Feel things. Feel heat. And even pain. It suck’s sometimes but when your in let’s say. Star Wars games. It feels so real. Blade and sorcery. I can feel the weapons in my hands. I can feel everything. Even when I’m in space. I can barely breath. Still able to breath. Just not a lot. It’s a nice trait to have.
If you have any questions for me and how to get such things. I definitely could try and help improve your vr experience. And for the creator of this video. Your full body tracking will help a lot cause your arm and legs move when your real arms and legs are moving. Good luck in you vr journey.

If you take away all the narration you end up with a bunch of essential oil fans... random vibrations akin to a sex toy on your body... a really bizzare running platform that requires a harness so you dont fall over... .. no basic framework that all of the software is built upon among the various hardware manufacturers... basically a mish/mesh of 10k or more in gear that basically is good enough to produce a video on but so far from being consistent only a developer would deal with it and in that case only specific parts. The only way past all these problems is that common framework that they can all build upon aka some sort of industry standards or you have a gigantic mega corp with billions product the software and integrate it into all these different hardware components through specific deals.
A horde of the commenters don't seem to think all these problems are going to be solved in a matter of years when its likely more to be a multi-decade effort. Technology doesn't mean much when the software is trash with no open standards or a common framework. Without that if no very large player engages in huge amounts of spend I would see small incremental improvements much like the first sets of 3d gear in the past decade to now. The headset really hasn't improved beyond the resolution/refresh rates at all for example. They cant even show your actual control stick in VR by simply capturing it in realtime via a sensor then re-producing it in the VR world. It is entirely closed off in that sense. On top of all of this this entire area of production hasn't even seen a recession and most of the young people haven't seen entire industries/project totally collapse overnight because its all a bunch of hope/wishful thinking nonsense. We won't even know how durable the VR industry is until we see a recession and the last two obliterated huge amounts of IT based businesses that were absolute utter parasitic garbage.

I love playing VR high (dont do anything that isnt with in the law for your area) its like being able to dumb down the brain or turn up how it sees things. Like I can feel what my VR hands are touching and even what the body would feel leaning on a wall or what ever its almost made me fall a few times lol. I would love to know what it would be like with this whole set up and working 100% think might blow my mind XD.
