Now what kind of nonsense is that? I often watch videos from musicians and there is always someone that says that the band or singer is underrated. What for? Because they are not standing in the spotlight all the time? Because they are not played as much as "fill in the blank" on the radio? Because people don't talk about them much? If so, does that mean they are underrated? It's nonsense! Joe jackson, as well as loads of other musicians are definitely NOT underrated!
Now, The mist across the window hides the lines But nothing hides the color of the lights that shine Electricity so fine Look and dry your eyes We, So tired of all the darkness in our lives With no more angry words to say Can come alive Get into a car and drive To the other side Me babe, steppin' out Into the night Into the light You babe, steppin' out Into the night Into the light We, Are young but getting old before our time We'll leave the T.V. and the radio behind Don't you wonder what we'll find Steppin' out tonight You, Can dress in pink and blue just like a child And in a yellow taxi turn to me and smile We'll be there in just a while If you follow me Me babe, steppin' out Into the night Into the light You babe, steppin' out Into the night Into the light
I have always, really like this song, and a few others of Joe, he seems to put so much into his songs, and while like many other singers, he may not have the widest singing range, he certainly knows what too do, with his voice! not every singer does that.
Just like Zappa, John Lurie and so many other brilliant artists, I missed hearing the genius of Joe Jackson when I was younger. So happy I can hear it now and appreciate it fully. Thanks for this......
Thanks for that. During a dearth of live music here in Perth W Australia I thought I would go to a JJ gig.Big world tour .So glad I did,so good, got the video and wish it was on DVD. Converted me,what a live artist, got so much JJ stuff now Wish he would come back to Australia,we're all getting older.
The 82 concert was more vital and ambitious, line-up: JJ and Graham Maby (bg, voc), Joy Askew (keyb, voc), Ed Rynesdal (keyb, voc), Sue Hadjopoulos (keyb, voc) and Larry Tolfree (dr, voc)
It is such a simple tune but so relaxing. Amazing intelligence needed to make it and is so nice to listen to. One of the only good things humans can do.
I can't help but watch this video over and over because that bass player has me mezmerized. It sounds better live I must say. The synth bass line on the original recording is cool but he just stays in the pocket here giving it some funk.
Joe's bad is Extremely tight. Saw a few remarks about the xylophone player. This Female is extremely talented. She destroys every facet on the percussion side. Joe and this group Obviously spent a lot of time in the garage.Impressive.!!!!
Believe this is the first time I've heard a live version of this in the similar to the studio style. Familiar with a slowed down live version released in the late Eighties. This sounds great. Milltown's own, Graham Maybe drives it although everyone sounds wonderful here. I'll play it again.
Ace walks down the misty coblestone streets on the East Side of Manhattan on a misty rainy day. Collar pulled up against the chill, slouch hat on head, hands in pockets. Footsteps in slow rythm to this song. Ghosts of the past rising from the manhole steam to say hi to the Ace. And Ace keeps walking until she is swallowed up in the mist. Catch up to her - she has alot of stories to tell.
What a long strange trip the last few years have been! I allowed them to turn me into someone who started "watching too much TV". "Stepped out" several months ago and it has been completely worth it. Now I have new decisions to make. What particular forks in the road will I take now...what unknown lands will I enter? (I'm just thinking out loud here sorry.) I pray I make the right choices. I also pray for those in my life that will be effected by these choices. Time waits for no one...
I love this song but I never know how he's going to play it. I think he should do both the slow and the fast versions in concerts. Like "We will rock you"
The bass line it self is sort-of simple. It's all octaves. But the speed and precision which they are played is really a workout. It WILL cramp up your hand, I know from experience. Great tune.
The best stuff in music is often simple, without being obvious. You would have thought someone would have come up with this bass line before 1982 because it's so simple but they didn't.
Who needs a synth when you've got this bassist!
Here in 2023 to say that bass player is MAKING HIS MONEY right now. Obsessed.
Joe Jackson and his band have to be the most underrated ever

@@stormbringer67 alrighty then
@@stormbringer67 I agree with you 100%. People misuse that application a lot.
One of the most magical bass lines ever.
Awesome version of one of my favorite songs ever. Graham Maby is amazing in this!
Reminds me of being a very small boy, I remember my mother used to play this. Happy memories :)
Joe's dancing off stage! Haha! OMG I love him. What an icon.
Grahams funky bass makes this version a must hear.
What a classic! My favourite Joe Jackson song!!!

Joe Jackson is amazing. I worshipped this album. The bass is funkier here.
that's because it's played on a bass instead of programmed like on the album
Backing vocals AND that bassline? I seriously need to practice more!
That base player is going off! Bad ass
I am so glad to see someone give some love to Graham Maby. He is the planet around which this wonderful music orbits.
Brings back nights full of anticipation and 'lots of sparkle. City lights, champagne, lines on the table and his eyes, of course...
A música é boa. O baixista da show....anos 80. Nada igual....
Great, atmospheric song. And it transitions live pretty well, too. The bass player here is awesome.
I have always, really like this song, and a few others of Joe, he seems to put so much into his songs, and while like many other singers, he may not have the widest singing range, he certainly knows what too do, with his voice! not every singer does that.
Joe Jackson is the only guy who’s singing I like that actually can’t sing … It’s the honesty of his presentation….
Can't believe this is an 80s song! Love it :)
great song. great bass line.
I love this bass line...
Who is playing bass? Love it!
This looks like a really fun song to play for the band. You can tell they get into it. Badass
This is THE BEST version of this song. None of the electronic keyboard synthesizer bullshit.
Whole song is tight! Then having Joe watch his band from the audience point of view is innovative. -) 3:48
Just like Zappa, John Lurie and so many other brilliant artists, I missed hearing the genius of Joe Jackson when I was younger. So happy I can hear it now and appreciate it fully. Thanks for this......

Great... really GREAT !!! I love this song since the first time I heard it, midle of the eighties. Tanks for share this live version.
Sin duda una excelente canción de los 80s
The 82 concert was more vital and ambitious, line-up: JJ and Graham Maby (bg, voc), Joy Askew (keyb, voc), Ed Rynesdal (keyb, voc), Sue Hadjopoulos (keyb, voc) and Larry Tolfree (dr, voc)
I was into Joe Jackson in the 1980s, I liked his sound. It was new.
It is such a simple tune but so relaxing. Amazing intelligence needed to make it and is so nice to listen to. One of the only good things humans can do.
big up P&O Many thanks Master Joe ...sweet memories
this song gets me everytime...live is sooo nice
This is simply SIMPLY amazing.
Such a rawness to his vocals.
Glad you found more JJ!!! Love this song!!!
Very very best.when the time music was great and simple life.teard eyes
Love this song but I never knew who sang it. Thank you for posting
MUCH better than the studio version, listen to that groove.
Version punchy et un peu déglinguée. Tellement datée. Géniale.
i say this version of steppin' out is alot better then the original one :) thumbs up* :)
Brilliant, Just Brilliant !
This is the national anthem of Manhattan
P & O brought me here. great live performance.
When music was music....
The big haired xylophone player in Joe Jackson's
backup band reminds me of Rhea Pearlman!
what a cool song! love it, love it..brings back so much memories...
One of my all time favorite songs and performer. And yes it's a very good backup band! Hubby is a drummer, so I like that too!
Wow! He is the one. Wonderful 💙💙💙
The Drums!! Best Drumming on the earth....
Amazing base
Gran canción, ojala pueda ir a nueva york algún día.
So many memories :')
Note to self: you will NEVER be as electric as Joe Jackson. They guy's stuff is so good you can't really listen to it in a chair. You have to move.
Great song,my favorite New Wave song.
the chick on the xylophone is awesome
Totally agree, she reminds me of the hard chick from Aliens
Sue Hadjopoulos.
t1000eg try watching Ruth Underwood with Frank Zappa, now that WAS a female percussionist!
That's a glockenspiel.
I can't help but watch this video over and over because that bass player has me mezmerized. It sounds better live I must say. The synth bass line on the original recording is cool but he just stays in the pocket here giving it some funk.

Sue Hadjopoulos on glockenspiel

I remember this one on Junior Choice, with Tony Blackburn.
It is great to see a man at the top of His game. bitches!
Simply Wonderful!
Icono ochentero..un gran musico y compositor un verdadero grande.
How great in this track - viva P&O!!
THIS MAN IS AWESOME.
Props to the bass player …. Hand cramping just listening 😅

What a long strange trip the last few years have been! I allowed them to turn me into someone who started "watching too much TV". "Stepped out" several months ago and it has been completely worth it. Ufff... !Mucho con demasiado! 🏆🎸🎵👍🍺🍺🍺
um monstro sagrado canta muito
The Best always
Wright. Joe is the best
In this performance, Joe Jackson reminds me of Ian Curtis!
I love this song but I never know how he's going to play it. I think he should do both the slow and the fast versions in concerts. Like "We will rock you"
This bass line is bitchin!!!
I'm not a music playing expert, but it seems to me the bass line is more a simple one. How come it sounds so much more sexy when Mr. Maybe plays it?
Most of his songs have simple bass.
The bass line it self is sort-of simple. It's all octaves. But the speed and precision which they are played is really a workout. It WILL cramp up your hand, I know from experience. Great tune.
Also stolen by Gabriella Cilmi (and/or her composers) for 'On a Mission'.
The best stuff in music is often simple, without being obvious. You would have thought someone would have come up with this bass line before 1982 because it's so simple but they didn't.
Toujours excellente!
