Back in 1983, the famous "WDR Rockpalast Nacht" from the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany, sent out live via TV and radio all over the land into my room. Being 16 years old this was something completely new to me there was this sharp dressed guy with a great voice and quite a different kind of music that I instantly loved. The CDs I bought after this concert are still with me these days and strange shadows of memories long forgotten trying to rise in me while listening to this song. It was so long ago, and it has been a great time to be. The 80s were such a blast. Because of the music, the creativity unleashed.
It just shows how bogus the RNRHOF really is. So many great artists excluded. So many half-assed ones in. It's not about the music its the money and politics!
Merci .👏🤩
*So Eighties Glorious! So New York! So Cosmopolitan Lifestyle! THE TIMELESS ROMANCE OF THAT EPOCH!* And that oh so glorious driving Korg KR55 synth melody, made sweeter indeed with Das Glockenspiel. *This song is absolutely close to the top of my Glorious Eighties Playlist. Accompanied by Patrice Rushen - Forget Me Nots and Evelyn "Champagne" King - Love Come Down.*
This was a song that changed music performance. I remember watching friends play this BACK THEN, WE the "hotel" bands of the 70's-80's would go to see each other if we finished early. I get chills thinking of how popular this was and the reaction of crowds to hear it live with all the "Sequenced" parts in a packed hotel lounge at 2am. Rockin'.....
Omg .he sounds fantastic... And this song still rocks.... !!! If he's not in the Hall of Fame... It's a dam shame!!!! Great songs stand the test of time... My son blasts this song in his car .... And I love it.....!!!
Thanks California Spirit Radioshow! This is great, notably the sound quality. And thank you Joe Jackson, for being you. This doesn't sound like the record all those years ago; it sounds BETTER! I am a happy person now.
I remember back in high school in votech commercial art class... easy listening station always on but steppin out would come on everyday it just stuck in my head ot one of my Favorite tracks just picked up the whole album today Great Listening 🎶 🙌 👏 Great Artist ("
I went to see Joe Jackson about 40 years ago at the Universal Amphitheater when it was still an open air venue and unfortunately an unruly concert goer ruined the night. He heckled Joe and ended up throwing a beer on him and Joe left the stage and didn’t return. What the guy did was totally wrong, but I would have hoped that after removing the unruly patron that Joe would have returned and finished the show which had barely started.
A fine rendition of a nice song, but why the self consciousness on the part of these highly-experienced musicians, including Mr Jackson? It tends to detract from the emotional effects of the music. They perform as if they're a group of amateurs on a Friday night in the pub.

Wow! He still sounds the same! This song brings back such nostalgia, I can’t even tell you. Love it!
A lot of artists lose some quality in their voice as they get older, but Joe sounds exactly the same. Love this song. One of my favorites of all time.
A ce niveau, la surprise est réelle..
Excellente prestation.

Joe should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.... so many hits over so many years and still at it. Love Joe and Graham! Let them IN DAMN IT!
I Agree!
Agree 1,000%! A true artist and genius.
It just shows how bogus the RNRHOF really is. So many great artists excluded. So many half-assed ones in. It's not about the music its the money and politics!
the R&R HoF would be an insult to Joe. He's better than that silly mess
Cracks me up when people say he was a 80’s artist. He has covered more genres and never rests on his past. More talent than 99.5% of musicians today.
Back to the 80’s, my glory days!!! Beautiful song
This is a glorious song. Any songwriter would be immensely proud with this in their catalogue. His French is pretty good too!
He's still sounds great! Just like listening on the radio!🤟😎👍
I watched him play this ultra slow and it took on a completely new dimension... superb, sorrowful and heart stopping
I experienced the slow version in Atlanta Fox Theater years ago, unbelievable!
Luckily for us all, the “slow” version was recorded & released on the “Live 80/86” collection. Absolutely haunting & beautiful.
Memories .... 🙄
80's were so good . 👍👍
thank God for RUclips videos - when you need a Joe Jackson fix! One of the most perfect songs ever written.
Un concert magique, 40 ans de musiques merveilleuses, thank you Mister Joe Jackson !!!

My goodness, the nostalgia in my chest gets me every time.
Si. Il le fait toujours très bien... Respect Joe Jackson 🙏❤️
C'est vrai. Paul McCartney est un autre.
Tu as raison Joe c'est la Classe
Morceau d'anthologie !. Quel génie !.
Joe super talented
Ce type est vraiment un génie contemporain
Merci beaucoup monsieur Jackson🙏

You'll find it's Burton-on -Trent rather than New York but you're right about everything else
The video and especially the SOUND are amazing!
Thanks for 8:23 minutes of pure joy !
I really need it!
Greetings from Lima
perfect execution by all the players. The xylophone is such a great touch. One of the best songs of 82.
Glockenspiel rather than xylophone
Back in 80s in a while!
Joe Jackson A Class Act, always. Keep doing what you're doing. Respect Jk
Never get tired of this song....no matter the version or style.

What a lovely guy! And speaking to his audience in pretty good French to boot.

Give this man a microphone and he won’t stop. Done!😢
Bring back the memories Joe!!! Rock on!!
1982
Saw in Leeds 82...recall leaving the Park & thinking me fav was JJ & disappointed with the Stones
I want cha cha loco
Sounds like he speaks some French for reals which is cool! But he has a pretty strong American twang! : )
Can’t crowds watch a show without clapping?
I am always stymied when an Englishman speaks a foreign tounge .
He sure can! I saw him way back in Paris and he was very late, then he showed up about an hour later and spoke to us entirely in French!!
inicia 2:39 .tks
Would you be my no 2

His voice sounds tired, almost out of tune.
Stop talking play.....half the video is talking...PLAY ALREADY ....
It was important to explain that he was recreating the recording session of the song with its original drum box etc, plus he did in French, no less!
🖤
