I have loved this song since it came out in 1982, I was 24 and had my whole life in front of me. 66 and still rocking it (and I still have my whole life in front of me).
*I MISS YOU 82!* Steppin' Out is near the top of my Eighties Faves --- along with Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen and Love Come Down by Evelyn "Champagne" King. Ze mesmerizing Korg KR-55 synth melody und the sweet accompaniment of Das Glockenspiel!
I love it so much! The original is definitely too short, I always wanted this song to go on for at least 6-7 minutes and there I have it, finally. Thanks!
No matter how long this song goes on for its still upbeat and so uplifting , such a feel good sound decades later. It takes me back to my younger days. Wonderful Wonderful. 🙏❤️🇬🇧❤️🙏 Dec twenty two
From all songs of the 70s, 80s, 90s, 20s... this one is in all details burned in my cerebral cortex for the rest of my life - i wil take it with me into grave. I'm a drummer, not a piano player, but I could play the arp, chorus and the hook line out of the pocket if someone want me to - at any time! That's the magic of musical genius.
..a LOT of People don't know what this sparkly, shimmery, twinkily tune is REALLY about... *THE AFTERLIFE.* ...It's about Joe romanticizing what it's like after someone.....'un-alives'...., and sees the white light; "...me Babe, Steppin' Out..into the Night, into the LIGHT...." ...that Joe, ever the OPTIMIST...... ; )
i discovered this song recently, its the perfect tune when you going out alone on a saturday night, thinking about the fun you will have, the people you meet, the music to dance to.. just having a good time to remember..
Hey everyone, being born in 1964, this song will always beckon my heart, just as the lyrics say, leave the world behind, enjoy the ole school music,it will never return.
Joe Jackson fuk'n rox 🔥🤘😎🎶🎹🎵 This song has played daily on my YT playlist for the past 10 years. Never get tired of it. Always listen to the extended versions on a loop during my work outs.
This reminds me of Saturdays nights in the 1980s, malls, roller skating, arcades, movie rentals after a day of cartoons, and weekend special t.v episodes...what a time to live!...and another of cocaine!
Esta canción, suena en mis oídos desde que era niño.......y aún hasta el día de hoy, la escucho, para trasladarme a esa época tan feliz de mi vida, cuando crecí en los 80's........ buenos, muy buenos recuerdos. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶✌🏼👀
Forever classic🖖🏽. The long version was definitely a gift🙃. You could probably do every dance that ever existed in the 80's to this one song. I know we did. This is 1 of those classics you'd expect to hear on Cold Case. They had the BEST 80's jams !! Just teleport me back for like one year😫please!
Music with a great walking bass line like this song, "Steppin Out", and Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", will always be enjoyable and fun to listen to.
On the studio version, Joe played the bass line on a synthesizer. I read that he played the line at half-time and then had it speeded up on the mix. When he went out on tour, Graham Maby played the line on the bass guitar. Just shows you how talented Maby was, and still is.
Excelente disco!
Night and day is a wonderful album , takes me back to those days going round a couple i knew to their hi rise flat looking out the window at the city lights electricity and the magic of the outside cold night air listening to Night and Day on their expensive hi fi ,doing some top whizz and going out.
One of 1980's. Great song and video 📹 miss those times long ago 😢. Young and full of life ✨️ brings tears 😢 to someone's eyes. If you were one of them. Do you know what I mean. 😥😢😞
SUCH a catchy tune. This takes me back over FORTY years, to when I lived in Edmonton. Great days, they was.. Only trouble i have is what he means by the 'Other side' I have a thing about what lyrics are saying, because the sub conscious hears them 'and sort of records them and they can mess with your head in the long run.. if they are sinister and subliminal. Confused yet??
This song is like free trip into the past
2024. Joe Jackson forever.
Yes
I have loved this song since it came out in 1982, I was 23 and had my whole life in front of me. 65 now and still rocking it.

Brilliant song. Bought this when I was a 13 year old back in 1982. Now 55 still sounds timeless 🎶

Reminds me of my high school days..love the fast uptempo beat!
That's only scratching the surface.
What about the rest of the song itself? The melody and musicianship?
It's amazing!
First heard this song in 1982 and it sounds just as great now as it did over 40 years ago.
i discovered this song recently, its the perfect tune when you going out alone on a saturday night, thinking about the fun you will have, the people you meet, the music to dance to.. just having a good time to remember..
Except the song is literally about not going out alone.
Hey everyone, being born in 1964, this song will always beckon my heart, just as the lyrics say, leave the world behind, enjoy the ole school music,it will never return.
Nice!

One of my favorite songs of the 1980s (I was in my early 20's back then). A very upbeat & imaginative song & video. Great Stuff!
thanks
This reminds me of Saturdays nights in the 1980s, malls, roller skating, arcades, movie rentals after a day of cartoons, and weekend special t.v episodes...what a time to live!...and another of cocaine!
What an awesome extended edition of this great classic to listen and enjoy in 2024.
Love it!
we, so tired of all the darkness in our lives....we're getting old before our time....great lyrics' just one of his many hits.
The longer the better....Graham’s Bass work is absolutely spectacular. A real finger buster ....
Except we were young instead of we are..this song is still alive as it was in my student time!
Magnifique Joe!
This is one of the best 80s song that I like.
Glorious version of this amazing song!

Music with a great walking bass line like this song, "Steppin Out", and Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", will always be enjoyable and fun to listen to.
Yes!
Joe shows with these brilliant lyrics that he was well ahead of his time.
On the studio version, Joe played the bass line on a synthesizer. I read that he played the line at half-time and then had it speeded up on the mix. When he went out on tour, Graham Maby played the line on the bass guitar. Just shows you how talented Maby was, and still is.
Top 3 of my favorite 80’s songs. It comes on I listen 💯 of the time.

That bassline! We remember the melodies, but that bass sound has so much drive to it.

This song stands out from a lot of that fluffy 80s crap. The best song from 1981? Easily one of ‘em
Perfeito!
