- The Corolla has been a to sedan for Toyota for many years. The Corolla SE brings a sporty style but also big value. On the outside you will find 18in wheels, LED lighting, a unique front fascia. On the inside you will be greeted by cloth seating, 8in infotainment system, and sunroof. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 that produces 169HP & is mated to a CVT transmission. $28K for a Corolla.... The world is ending
$10000 above what it should really be priced at
@@guerrebeify The low end models start at $22k but to get the models with a decent engine and the manual they stick$5k worth of crap on them you don't want or need. I want the Corolla SE to get the 2.0 and manual, but don't need the larger 18" tires, nor the blind spot notice, auto braking, safe distance cruise on and on.. It’s slow as hell but it does things my hellcat can’t. I love it. When I got my hellcat, I also got a Corolla SE as well. They both do opposite things of each other and are extremely good at them.
My main reason for going for the corolla would be long term reliability and hopefully being able to drive it to 500km without the engine exploding.

I take the corolla SE. if i can choose i prefer naturally aspirated engine. The turbò doesn’t last long and more expensive to maintain
Totally understandable with that choice!
The Civic offers a Sport trim with a naturally aspirated 2.0l engine. It’s less premium than the EX though (No intelligent key, no moonroof, a few other things lacking such as heated seats) so it can’t quite be compared here. All things being equal…. Hats off to Toyota for keeping manuals alive. A power bank or two would fit fine in that rear console slot. That console looks a lot narrower than the Civic, which has cupholders along side the gear selector. Not feeling the front end; looks already wrecked.
Toyota Corolla is for everyday stop and go traffic. It’s purpose is to get you from point A to point B reliably, safely, and economically (gas mileage, low maintenance).
I have a 2018 Corolla SE sport model with chrome wheels, softex leather seats and all the extra features. It’s a great car that has been reliable , decent interior space, great MPG and best of all low maintenance cost. That’s what most people look for in a car that’s why I think Corolla are the best selling. Civic was ahead of the Corolla but now it seems Toyota caught up and Honda stayed behind. Look at the new GR Corolla that is coming soon.
Civic has actually sold better than the Corolla for the past years but they both are always the top two selling in the segment. I think Corolla did better this year because of the supply issues and model changeover of the civic

Toyota Corolla SE is a better car all around. Honda civic CAN NOT match Toyota corolla quality and reliability. I have 3 Corollas and 3 Civics and Corolla are way better than civics. You do not want to buy Civic with Turbo Engine.
Both make great vehicles. Having owned several Honda and Toyota vehicles, regardless of models, with my experience the Honda product is my favorite, but hard to go wrong with either. I keep cars/trucks a long time and Toyota knobs tend to start getting loose or fall off where I haven't had that problem with Honda. No major issues with either. The Corolla and Civic would be a tight match so it would come down to the style on these. Both good picks.

The Civic and Corolla are both legendary in the automotive world. Both 'look' very nice. Depending on where you live in the US, Civic and Corolla are everywhere. Throw in Sentra, Elantra, and Forte. The Mazda 3 would be my choice in Grand Touring form. It has a bigger size engine, 2.5L to be exact. More engine power. AND A TURBO OPTION with or without AWD
Can't go wrong with both but the civic was always the better pick for driver engagement and features for any generation imo
I think the Mazda3 is better than them all even though it's not a new model.

Hey joe and Lori (and whoever rear this), first of al, how was your Thanksgiving (I hope it was good). Second of all, I hope that y'all had have a good day. Third of all, have a good weekend.
Anyway so, I found that the Toyota Corolla has been a iconic car (beside the Camry, it's also the best selling car in the world), I also think that for the price point the Toyota Corolla has a nice interior.
I have been loving Toyota, with there cheap and good quality vehicles, but Toyota has some competitors like the Hyundai accent or the Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, and there are some more vehicles in this category.
If you have to choose which car you like most from this category, or in general what is your favorite vehicle.
Edit: I hope that Toyota either that they redesign the Prius or that they kill it
I bet Joe likes the Mazda3 really really well
I just bought a 2021 Corolla SE today with 24000 Mi and just got home with it a awhile ago, it exceeded all my expectations yes this is a good solid car.

Corolla wins for maintenance.
The Corolla’s 2.0L M20A-FKS engine is easier to work on than the Civics 1.5L turbo. I keep my cars over 10 years. The Corolla will cost less in maintenance. And the IMT will make the clutch last longer in the Corolla. Civic’s engine is also rotated 180 degrees so the throttle body is on the back and hard to reach/ clean. Only issue with Corolla is the front struts are under the cowl which will take more effort to replace.
Civic’s turbo engine is also direct injection only, so it will build up carbon on the intake valves like the German GTI engines and require walnut blasting to clean.
This car is not worth $26k.
Save money and buy the Impreza. It may be less fuel efficient and a tad slower but you will save money and have a more engaging driving experience.
For under $23k you can get a the Premium trim Impreza. The Honda Civic Sport is $24k but even slower than the Impreza.
The Mazda 3 Select trim is the best option if you like the interior which I am not a fan of. You will get a much quicker vehicle and based on C&D will get better than advertised fuel economy.
Buy the Mazda 3 for around $27k and you will thank yourself later. The Corolla still doesn't offer enough power after the upgraded engine replacing the under powered one.
If you want a Crossover go with the CX-30 or Subaru Cross trek 2.5
I scouted for the Mazda 3 Select trim in white, but dealerships over here have extremely low inventory due to the global microchip shortage.
It's to bad the Corolla Hybrid isn't available as an SE
The civic has gotten so big, can we even classify it as a ‘compact’ sedan anymore?
Yes because it’s still smaller than an Accord
These dark blue Corolla SE's are very sharp cars!
I might trade in my Journey for a Corolla if these gas prices don't go down.
Trade it in even if they do go down - the Journey is kinda long in the tooth and I haven't heard any claims to fame for its reliability lol
@@jeffb.6642 🤣🤣🤣, That's nicest comment, I've seen about a Journey. I know trust me I owned it for 2 years I've already replaced the transmission. No More Mopar.
I’d say Corolla’s are much better than the new civics for the average driver. I say this because they are lower maintenance. The new civics have turbo engines and let’s be honest the average person doesn’t exactly put the extra time and care into properly taking care of a turbo engine. For this reason I would say a na corolla would be more reliable than a 1.5 t civic for the average person.
The Civic Sedan you can get in a 2.0 aspirated engine but only with cvt...no manual. I agree about wear and tear with a turbo.
@@captinbeyond it’s slow af and noisy
@@Stigz34 So far I've read a zillion reviews about both the Civic/Corolla and neither one gets raves about being a quiet ride or fast. It's a low end line up----fast is relative
I think as long as you take care of the turbo civic like regular oil changes, do not abuse the car and drive the car hard all the time, and regularly maintain everything else it is a good car. I have a 2017 civic ext and it has 70k miles and it drives just as good as the day I got it. But you have a point the average person is not on top of their maintenance and usually always push back oil changes and other things if they did not get a complimentary service from Honda like I did.

That’s my biggest complaint since I couldn’t see it before buying it. But I feel there aren’t many features that should be standard in these cars such as blind spot detection or would be nice to have a HUD.
Also the car is so loud and sounded like a tin can. I just got done putting sound deadening in all of the doors and trunk. It’s a little quieter, but not a ton. Also the sound was extremely bad without the jbl, so I also replaced all the speakers.
If they had this car sitting on the lot when I bought it, I probably wouldn’t have bought it and would have found a different car with more features for the same price

We bought one this week and it’s a great car.
I’ve researched both extensively… if you have the money, the civic is a better buy hands down. Yes it will cost a little bit more to own but Turbos have been around for a while now for research to be implemented in making it reliable for long term. The Corolla Has the win on exterior styling but Toyota’s interior is cheaply done. There is a lot of areas where they cut corners especially compared to Mazda and Honda. For the little bit of money, that interior, upgraded suspension & Chasis, as well as the extra horses in Honda will make a world of a difference in driving experience and holding value for long term. If you just want something simple and don’t mind getting shafted on the price, go with the Corolla, it will indeed be slightly more reliable than the Civic.
From what I've seen in comments and on reddit, it is a lot more reliable compared to Hondas, regarding engine and build quality..
Corolla L starts at $17,900, Civic Sedan starts at $22,700 for CVT. There is a huge price difference already!
Indeed which is why I ended up with 2020 corolla back in 2020 instead of the civic and lasts longer too.
This is one of the funniest ones man :) Thinking of buying this in Manual
Great video but the title says 2022 Honda Civic Sport however throughout the video, you compared it to the civic EX which is more expensive than the sport so it might’ve been a bit unfair of a comparison.
EX and SE is about the right comparison here in Canada just like civic LX vs Corolla LE trims.
That's the best Toyota can do on MPGs for a 2022? That's not very impressive. That off white interior is going to be a dirt magnet with use. Not a fan of the screen that comes out of the dash. Not s fan of that light Grey interior either. That stain very easy.
For no particularly good reason they don't give you a choice of black in every trim level of Corolla
The cvt might prevent me from buying this car. I was interested until you said that. It might be game over for this car. They should have stuck with the 6 speed. Why do they take something perfectly good and mess it up. If it isn't broke don't fix it.
Corolla is going to be more reliable than the Civic, especially when it comes to automatic transmissions, however the Honda is going to be the best choice for the enthusiast driver, especially with a manual. Honda makes the best manual transmissions in the world, they’re the perfect balance of reliability and performance. Toyota manuals are okay, but their cable linkages don’t provide a smooth, crisp, precise throw. When it comes to automatic transmissions, Honda’s tend to have much more problems as they age, relative to Toyota Automatics. In short, if you want something automatic, and that will last as long as possible, get a Corolla. If you want something with a manual that’s fun to drive, get a Civic.
I just chose a new Corolla over a new Civic because the Civic is thousands of dollars more… assuming you can find a Corolla at a dealership that hasn’t had thousands of dollars worth of crap added to it. Fortunately I was able to get one at MSRP without all the add-ons I don’t want.
First
Thin profile wheels are not necessarily a good thing.
I like the car, tho.

sweet ride, and color! would make a nice daily driver 👍😎
For sure!
The driving dynamics and driver enjoyment is much better in the Civic. That Corolla dashboard is no contest against the Civic.
I totally agree with you!
Corolla LE is a much better value. The low profile tires and huge rims on the SE cause much more pronounced road noise. The SE is also so low to the ground you will inevitably scrape the front end. The LE may be more boring but will wear better over the years.
Indeed LE was a better value when I got mine in 2020. I don't even feel the bumps on the highway and on a windy day I feel planted to the ground due to the rear suspension. I will admit it's a bit slower getting from the go but fast enough for semi trucks not to pass you.

This car is the most successful in sales even though some cars are better in the segment. This car is reliable, prety good styling, prety good on gas. For what you pay for it’s worth it still.
Surprisingly, the Corolla sedan is only 1.5” shorter than the Civic; yet, it looks a lot smaller. Between the two, I would take the Civic…better interior and engine. HOWEVER, if money is tight, the Corolla will offer better deals (pre-pandemic and post-CPU shortage 🤪).

However, there are other factors driving consumer choices…and if folks are cross shopping vehicles as common and equally similar as a Civic or Corolla, it’s likely they’ll also be highly price-sensitive. The “type” of consumer also matters…parents, college students, commuters, and retirees will be just as satisfied owning either vehicle but will be even happier knowing they paid a whole lot less with the better deal. On the other hand, if it was a Corolla vs a Focus, then yeah…no amount of discounts (other than free 🤪) should sway you from buying a Corolla.
It's a hard decision but i like the look of the Corolla more but the interior of the civic is better 🤔
That's my problem right now! 😮💨😮💨😮💨 Idk what to do.
The inside is just ugly to me and the touch screen just looks completely out of place if they would redesign it interior wise I think it would look a lot better and offer more room inside
