- This is the same technique as the brown swirl tutorial. I wanted to do another color option just to show what the differences could be and what your options are. Thanks used in this tutorial are Tim Holtz indigo and mermaid, and piñata brand white and Baja Blue.
Love this tumbler. Beautiful
Beautiful! Thank you for showing us the process.
You’re welcome! 🙂
@@ThePurpleStitch i been working with resin for a long time in diffrent media etc you dont want to heat the resin it will shorten the pot life and make it hard
WOW this is AWESOME thank you for sharing, I just bought myself a cup turner & after watching you I’m really looking forward to having a turn hahaha mind the pun hahaha
Ps. I just subscribed 😀
Yes, I had the (almost) same issue with those squeeze bottles! But I caught the top in time, only lost abut 10ml of resin, not the hardener. I taped tops with duct tape to prevent it from happening again and I also cut tip bigger on resin bottle to ease the pressure when squeezing.
I’m so paranoid after it happening so many times back to back! I check the lids every time! 😂
Do you use quick set epoxy or the regular?
Great tutorial! The cup is beautiful. I would like to try this in shades of purple and gold. How do you know what colors will give you the best effects? 😊
I haven’t done purples yet, but I bet that would be so pretty!
Ive heard that you cant use these cups for hot drinks - like coffee. Melts the epoxy. How long should you wait on a finished tumbler to use? Thx and cant wait to try this blue. (Hubbys favorite color.)
@@SunshineRivera-r1j on a double walled cup, the temperature won’t affect the outside (unless the vacuum seal is broken). The curing time will vary on each brand, check what yours says for fully cured. 😊
This is amazing! So glad I found you!
If I was to do a cup with the exact colors you used what would it look like if I sprinkled a very fine glitter on top? Would I ruin it or not? Also if it would work what color glitter would you suggest? I love your videos they are the best ones out there!
Thanks

Hi there! I have added glitter in the past as well. I feel like it’s better to do it as it’s own layer of epoxy. The inks need more epoxy to move and the glitter can just sink in. But you could also do it after it had been turning long enough that it is set up but still tacky. I use a transparent glitter so that the colors underneath show through but still has the sparkle. Or I’ve used a super fine glitter mixed in the epoxy. I’ve done that as the ink layer epoxy and also as the layer over the inks. Both had great results. Thank you for your sweet words! 🥰
Thank you so much for getting back to me. I really appreciate it. I think I’m going to add it when the alcohol ink/ epoxy is tacky. I definitely will use a transparent glitter as you suggested.
Thanks again
You create such beautiful tumblers. I live up north and share your frustration working with resin on cold days/nights. Have you tried soaking both part A and B bottles in warm/hot water before you use it? It works like a charm. On really cold days I take it one step further and halfway through mixing my resin I fill a separate cup up with warm water and put my cup with resin mix into the cup of warm water, soaking it while I continue to mix the resin (just don't get any water into the resin).... I hope that made since.
Thank you so much!! 🥰 since I made this, I’ve actually started heating my epoxy ahead of time with a shop light. It’s so crusty for sure!!
Beautiful!
Thank you! Your sweet comments are making my day! 😊
beauteous colors
I need to do one like this in red whatcors should I use,?
This is beautiful! If I wanted to add a little gold to this color palette, would you add it before or after the white?
Hmmm, I say probably before so that it can be broken up by the white. It’s going to depend on the type of gold going on there. Mixatives are tricky beasts.
@@ThePurpleStitch Thanks!
Beautiful cup
Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the tutorial! Do you sand the cup before the second coat of epoxy?
I typically don’t sand my ink layer. I’m paranoid that the sanding marks won’t vanish like it would on clear layers of epoxy. 😆 it’s probably a useless concern, but I don’t wanna risk a cup to find out!
Hi, what is youy epoxi ratio? 1:1 ? 1: 3?
I used the tim Holtz white mixtative and I've noticed it doesn't mix as well. Is it because I need more heat or epoxy. I used 20 ml last time on a ceramic coffee mug
Can I ask what resin you are using? I am having trouble in Australia finding food safe resin. I have been using Amazing but it is hard to come by at tge moment. I really love tge colours you are using!
I’ve been using Envirotex lite for a while. I used pro marine for a little while, but the Envirotex lite is a little easier to use and find. Good luck!!
Is the key to getting good movement, having more epoxy on the cup and heat? I think I've been skimping on the epoxy and my white mixative is just splotchy. I'll bump up to 30ml to see if I can get it to stick ..
That seems to be the key for me. Some people say I use too much epoxy, so go with what works for you for sure. But too little epoxy won’t move. I think there could definitely be such a thing as too much as well.
Could you probably not do another layer of epoxy? Is the one layer with alcohol inks good enough or is the second needed?
Frank Aleksiejczyk I wouldn’t leave it without a top layer. The inks can run off onto other surfaces. If I’m not sure I’ve coated one get, I take an alcohol wipe and see if color comes off. That’s where I get my suspicion that it will get ink on other surfaces. Also, I read somewhere recently that the inks themselves are not fda compliant. They need to be covered with something that is.
@@ThePurpleStitch awesome thanks for the explanation!!! Great work!!!
What’s the name of the jacket you got ?
Did you make your Turner? Which epoxy do you like? Have you tried various epoxies?
I did make my turner and will be making another couple soon. I’ll probably record those as well. I like Pro Marine and the current Envirotex lite. I’ve used alumalite and it was ok. It yellowed very fast.
@@ThePurpleStitch Did you find a particular tutorial that was helpful in creating your turner?
How do you prep the glass before putting the resin on? Will resin stick to stainless steel?
Yes, it will stick but it’s always a good idea to sand it. I typically sand and then spray paint a base color. I’ve done a video on stainless to give you an idea of how it turns out.
Did you spray paint the cup white first?
I almost always do a white base. Sometimes an ivory though.
Mine did the same thing
You mentioned a dry spot ,what causes dry spots on your cups?
I believe it’s where the epoxy repels because I was touching the cup with bare hands. The oils from our hands end up on the cup. I rarely get them anymore since I stopped touching them without gloves.
I have a question for it to cure and dry do you leave it on the turner to dry
I’ll leave it on the turner if I do not need it. It only needs to actually spin for long enough for the epoxy to set/harden. It can completely cure somewhere else once it’s past that step.
How long do you let it spin once you have all the ink on it
Typically about 4-6 hours.
We live in Minnesota! With 40 degrees we wear bikini
Can you put glitter in the epoxy along with the ink ?
Absolutely! I’ve done that several times before. I’d use a super fine glitter though, too large of a cut could affect the flow.
The Purple Stitch thank you !
Hello, where do you get your 30oz tumblers?
Mostly from thestainlessdepotcompany.com. But sometimes Walmart or Buccees.
I wish you couldve showed what it looked like after sitting over night!
😩 sorry!! They can get repetitive sometimes. Since it was cold during this one, it didn’t move much. Sometimes I get back out and grab a little video, but not always. It all depends on what I have going on. 😩
How do you get it to swirl up and down when you can’t remove your turner arm??
I’ve been known to pick up my turner to do it. I only have one that doesn’t have a removable arm. Just make sure it’s on there realllllly good so there aren’t any tragic fall offs!
You should use a mask because with years of working with resin it will damage your lungs and cause all kinds of problems thank you for sharing your craft xxoo
🥰 this was a long time ago and I have definitely learned a lot since this video.
