- In this video I did half of my inks on one layer swirl and then the other inks in a separate layer. I tried this to avoid too much mixing so that I wouldn’t have too many dark spots. It worked pretty well! The first layer cured before I did the second. Epoxy used is Envirotex Epoxy (I usually buy this at Michaels with a coupon, but is often similarly priced on Amazon)
Gallon kit amzn.to/2MpmoBS
32 ounce kit amzn.to/2Qdoaay
16 ounce kit amzn.to/399KJWg
Here's the list of the Amazon links to most colors:
Purple single amzn.to/2SsqpJw
Lake blue/ocean green/sky amzn.to/2EMWaoH
Turquoise/Magenta/Orange Set amzn.to/2QdpR7U
Brown single amzn.to/3988Btd
Cobalt Green single amzn.to/2QJc2Oz
Cadmium red/cadmium yellow/Ultramarine set amzn.to/2roWbwb
I really like the way the green one turned out. Both are beautiful. The dark spots give it more depth I think and makes the brighter colors pop out more. Good job on both
Helpful to show in neon effect when done
I love love the green !!!! ABSOLUTELY love how this looks can't wait to try this
I like these colors much better than true neon. Looks great!
Awesome! The colors are so vibrant. Thanks for sharing 😃👍
Its called a tack cloth. Its used before painting. They do work great
Nice technique to give each color life. I like it
Both cups are absolutely beautiful ❤️
This is BEAUTIFUL! I mean, seriously BEAUTIFUL! I want it lol!
🥰 thank you! My customer wanted bright colors but they run together so easily. This definitely helped keep them separate.
Love the colors
That turned out beautiful!
Thank you!!
This is so beautiful I'm definitely going to give it a try.
That's 🔥
WOW that is really beautiful from Quebec Canada
It’s a bit had to hear you when you have the respirator on….very cool tumbler. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you I always look forward to your tutorials💜
I love it so much .I want to try n do it..❤💜💙💚💛
Beautiful !
All I can say OMG!!!!!!!!!!!
The day spots are from the alcohol itself. I have issues with them as well but only when I use alcohol inks. Only certain colors though.
I usually have at least one dry spot. But didn’t have any for the last 3 cups. I loved not having that problem no matter what the cause is! 😆
The oils from your hand could have something to do with dry spots but it’s also how you drop the ink on. If you drop the ink more on the side as it turns instead of directly on the top you epoxy won’t move away from the cup as much.
I typically drop right on top unless I’m trying to get it long and skinny. I change it up depending on what spots I’m filling. I’m glad others have confirmed the oils theory! I won’t be handling them without gloves anymore!
Gorgeous ❤️
It is the oil from your hands that causes it to 'fisheye' or have dry spots. Wear your gloves whenever you touch your cup and clean it with alcohol before adding epoxy. IDK about shop towels but alcohol takes care of that. 91% and good luck finding it right now.
I know! the world is in a crazy place right now. I just had never even given it much thought until a few comments on a few videos asked what caused them. I was fairly confident that it was a decent theory. 😂
It's called a tack rack automotive paint shops or there'sa liquid called body wipe or presohl
I ended up finding some and they are great!!!
Yellow and blue make green!!!
So I did try this on a stoke cone Tumblr Did not come out as good as yours but still turned out pretty
Soooo cool 😁
This is my fav I’ve seen so far 💕
Microfiber is the towel i think you were talking about
Nope they're blue shop towels (paper) in the automotive section they are awesome for crafts and things like this
❤
you said you use a heat lamp. I wouldn't mind seeing what you use and the setup. Loved the tuturial
Kelly Whatley hi there! I just use a shop light with a 300 watt bulb. Not too close or it can get too hot. I’ve even yellowed my epoxy by putting a lamp too close.
Me encanta 😍😍
🥰 gracias!
Tacl towels
Did you sand your cup between the first layer and the second?
❤❤
Where did you get your heat lamp? Love see it?
That’s so cool! I have done tumblers for almost 3 years but lately seems everything I do I mess up🤦♀️do u ever get in a slump?
Yesssssss! With every craft I’ve ever done! I’ll be trucking along so great, then BAM! everything goes wrong back to back!
Funky nice. How do you not get it I side if the cup. Also when you expoxy how does it not go inside as well, never done one and really scared to. The inside of rim looks really nice how do you do that
I try not to spread the epoxy downward at the rim. I mostly go upward and that helps a LOT. worst case, you can carefully cut and clean up anything that goes inside. 😁
What causes the dry spots? I had lots 😞
Ah shame you getting the sniffles , great video
danssv8 it’s sooooo annoying on both sides of the camera! I appreciate anyone who can look past that! 😆
Do u sand alcohol ink tumbler?
I love it how do you heat the Apoxsee
Denise if you want it warmed up before mixing you can sit the bottles in some warm water for about 5 minutes or so depending on how much epoxy you have in the bottles. The epoxy I use recommends using it above 72 degrees. Be sure not to get any water in your epoxy.
I use a heat gun to get the bubbles out 😊
Magnificent ! What is the name of the thing which makes the cup/glass turning, please ?
Cup turner/cuptisserie should pull up results on amazon/Etsy/eBay.
When pouring the epoxy will it even out as it spins around? I'm very new and haven't even bought my spinner yet. Thanks! Beautiful work!!!
Yes, most epoxy is self leveling. Have fun when you get started!
Are you using epoxy without proper personal protection
Nevermind your gloves are really hard to see
Yeah, I started this channel when there wasn’t much info out there on products or even ppe. That’s why I share all links and resources in mine. This is one of my very early videos and I switched to nitrile. 😁
What did you use to swirl
To add the 2nd layer of paints, do you need a second layer of epoxy first?
Yes. Once the base layer is cured enough, then do the next layer the same again.
Do you have a store on FB where you sales these ? I would like a tye dye tumbler
I do! But I’ll be honest, I haven’t done a tye dye yet! 😬 facebook.com/thepurplestitch
This maybe a stupid question but do you apply the ink over freshly poured epoxy or is it already cured?
Georgina P this video is kind of both. I split the process so that my colors would not blend into a brown mess. TYPICALLY it would be over a freshly poured epoxy base like the first part of the video. The first time I tried this, too many colors were lost because they blended.
Is there a first video before this one? Where at?
This was the first cup: ruclips.net/video/jokd3V6ZBfI/видео.html. The green took over and the colors blended more than she wanted.
Hello, is the main purpose of the heat gun is to spread the alcohol ink around?
Yes, it heats the epoxy to allow movement.
Learn more and more ..but how u manage less use of epoxy bc cleaning it up is stressful
I try not to pour too heavy handed. I’ve seen some people just dump it on and let it drop off.
I am new to the cups so forgive me if my question is dumb, but if I didn't want to do a decal, would I be done with the cup at this step? Or does it need more epoxy?
I would do one to seal it. The inks can come off on something. That’s actually how I know if I top coated, if it comes off with an alcohol pad I know it needs a coating.
@@ThePurpleStitch Thank you!
I’ve never done this before, what is a good epoxy to use? Are these safe to drink from?
There are several great brands out there. I really steer towards KS resin (mostly because I'm used to it). Not all are FDA compliant when it comes to food/contact safety, but it will be listed in the brand FAQ section.
where did you buy the neon alcohol ink from? and what colors did you use on this tumbler that green is gorgeous
cobalt green
Where do get your tumblers cup from??
Most have come from stainless steel depot. But some come from Buccees if I’m in a pinch!
How fast is the cup turner going please?
This turner is 5-6 rpms.
What did u add to the foam on the insid the cup to keep it from falling off?
Rosa Ruelas i has pool noodles and shelf liner for a tight fit.
Did you put a second layer epoxy before doing round 2?
danssv8 yes, I put 20 ml for the second coat.
I ended up letting the resin dry before adding alcohol inks..could I just add another layer then jusy add inks?
Deprogram Minds yep! You sure can!!
@@ThePurpleStitch thanks..1st try at doing a tumbler and I wnt let tht happen again lol
How do you do it without fisheyes???
I’ve gotten pretty good at not touching the cup with my bare hands. I’m 99% sure that’s the cause of my fish eyes!
Do you tape lips of the cups or no to keep from gettin anything inside
No, I just try to be cautious and wipe off any stray epoxy that sneaks in there.
@@ThePurpleStitch thank you absolutely no one addressed this point
Not related to this video, but have you ever done a wine bottle set??
I've never done a wine bottle, just a water bottle. I know they are tricky!
@@ThePurpleStitch thank you!!
Hi where do you get your tumblers from. I see you always use the big ones
I live super close to a buccees, so sometimes they come from there in a pinch. Often they are from Stainless Steel Depot.
The Purple Stitch I’m gonna see if they have a website so I can eat some, ya do amazing work
I would love to have a go at these. Do you buy or make the cups please
I buy most of mine from stainless steel depot. Some come from Buccees since I live near one.
The Purple Stitch thank you
Do you have a brighter blue
not yet, I know there are several brands and options out there though. I have not branched out much from Pinata, Brea Reese, and Tim Holtz. I have one Maribu ink but haven't tried it. A brighter one probably exists.
What do u use to turn your tumbler
I built a turner with a microwave motor. But amazon/hobby lobby/Etsy have several options too. Search cup turner or cuptisserie and you should have lots of choices.
What the tool that move the cup
I built a turner with a microwave motor. But amazon/hobby lobby/Etsy have several options too. Search cup turner or cuptisserie and you should have lots of choices.
What brand of inks are you using?
All Brea Reese for this one. I linked on amazon what I could find. But you can get them at hobby lobby and Michaels. 🙂
I love how this turned out! Where do you sell your cups please? Do you ship?
I do sell and ship! 🥰 facebook.com/thepurplestitch is my page.
New like from me! Do you have a rough idea how much shipping to the UK would be please?
oh man...I can definitely look into it! Can you send me your address through messages on my page? I can input that on usps and get a quote for it.
I know you have to wear the mask for your protection but it's so hard to understand what you're saying while you're wearing it
I know 😩. I try to annunciate and speak louder. It’s one of those obstacles that I hate!
@@ThePurpleStitch maybe try a voice over or text? It's how a few resin youtubers work. Unfortunate downside to the mask but your health is more important!
Miss EmJay I tried to edit the video for this one and it just wasn’t working in my favor. Future vids I am planning to do text. 😁
