He has been recognized as the precursor of several movements, including surrealism, minimalism, repetitive music and the theater of the absurd.
《Les Gnossiennes》
Les Gnossiennes are several piano compositions written by Erik Satie. It was composed between July 1889 and January 1897.
Out of six pieces(Trois gnossiennes et Gnossiennes N.4 ~ 6), I'm going to play the first Gnossienne (Lent : Slow) for you today.
They are inspired by his impressionist and mystical period and follow on from his three Gymnopédies composed in 1888.
Satie is also very inspired by Greek mythology.
For his mysterious, bewitching, and avant-garde Gnossiennes, Satie invents a new original form name, derived from the word gnosis (from the ancient Greek gnôsis: knowledge, gnoseology) of Greek mythology.
The Gnossiennes are often considered dances.
