SORE THROAT SYMPTOMS:
Sore throat (pharyngitis) is very common. It is usually caused by an infection in the throat. Soreness ins the throat may be the only symptom. In addition, you may also have:
• A hoarse voice.
• A mild cough.
• A high temperature (fever).
• A headache.
• A feeling of wanting to be sick (nausea).
• Tiredness.
SORE THROAT CAUSES:
Sore throats are usually caused by viruses (like cold or flu) or from smoking. Very occasionally they can be caused by bacteria.
SORE THROAT TREATMENT:
To help soothe a sore throat and shorten how long it lasts you can:
• For sore throats the first things I nearly always advise to patients is to gargle warm salty water because it’s actually really effective, inexpensive and everyone can do it at home. Gargling warm salty water helps soothe the throat and reduce inflammation. Just dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of part cooled boiled water and gargle. It’s important not to swallow the salt water which its not suitable for children.
• Have enough fluids to avoid dehydration, I know it’s tempting not to drink much especially when it’s painful to swallow. But you can quite easily become dehydrated when your not well and may have a high temperature. Becoming dehydrated can make headaches and tiredness much worse and can even slow down recovery time. So aim for 6-8 glasses a day and try to avoid drinking hot drinks as they can actually make the sore throat pain worst.
• Eat cool or soft foods
• Avoid smoking or smoky places
• Suck ice cubes, ice lollies or hard sweets - but don't give young children anything small and hard to suck because of the risk of choking
• Rest
• Paracetamol and ibuprofen, these pain killers are great at reducing sore throat pain and also reducing a fever. To keep sore throat symptoms at a minimum it’s best to take a dose at regular intervals as directed by your pharmacist or on the medication packet.
WHEN TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR:
See a GP if:
• Your sore throat doesn't improve after a week
• You often get sore throats
• You're worried about your sore throat
• You have a sore throat and a very high temperature, or you feel hot and shivery
• You have a weakened immune system - for example, because of diabetes or chemotherapy
• A severe or long-lasting sore throat could be something like strep throat (a bacterial throat infection)
Call 999 (Ambulance) if:
• You have difficulty swallowing or breathing
• You're drooling
• You're making a high-pitched sound as you breathe (called stridor)
• Your symptoms are severe and getting worse quickly
These symptoms can make breathing more difficult.

Benjamin Flood usually its flu, fever and cold that could make ur throat sore, its my 4th day i couldnt go to school cuz of my throat cuz i simply couldnt talk, i read that its a flu pr fever that causes the temperature and gets u sick but also the fact of cold making ur nose blocked and coughing does NOT help in this situation. Why on earth do we have to witness pain?

No joke...this is rough
My throat is so sore I cant lay down. It feels like its swelling shut! I finally started gargling with warm salt water., took some benadril, took as hot a shower as I could stand, made some honey tea and lemon. I fell asleep in my recliner for 3 hrs. When I woke up it was a LOT better! If you have a recliner, I would use it! Wish everyone well.

Man getting that stabbing feeling in your throat every time you swallow is the worst! It also doesn't help that it usually results in my forehead and cheeks feeling hot af. Also, getting that very subtle feeling the night before your cold and inevitably waking up in the night feeling like hell is an absolute nightmare!

I had really bad tonsillitis yesterday and it was very painful to swallow. I saw something online - grate a big chunk of ginger, half a whole bulb of garlic 🧄 (not half a segment) and chop up half a lemon. Also, a tablespoon of golden syrup as I had no honey. Add a cup of hot water and soak for 15 mins with stirring. Strain and drink. The pain is SO much better this morning, I drank it last night. I have just had some more this morning. My bet is that it will be better still tomorrow. Swallowing is nowhere near as painful. I will come back to update. Thank god we are still social distancing.😆 Update: Within 24 hours of using the remedy I made my throat is close to normal again. I have no idea if it would have returned to normal without it, but it seems to have worked. Update 2. It's now three days since I started taking the 'remedy' I have described above. My throat is almost better (the pain of swallowing is about 5% of what it was) and I feel very well. I cannot guarantee that I would not have got better anyway but one thing I have noticed and I am sure of is that the 'remedy' rapidly cuts the pain down as it gets better. That happened very quickly, but it then went back up again (to ~50% of the original) but then went down rapidly after I took more. I would definitely recommend it, but with the garlic you WILL need an understanding partner :-)

Fitness Empire dude you have strep throat if it hurts that much, get the antibiotic amoxicillin, i used it and it went away in literally two days, i wouldnt wish strep on my worst enemy

I'm on day 4 of severe sore throat pain. I tried everything in the book and the best that has helped is sips of ice cold water, tablespoon of honey, ibuprofen / Tylenol, and chloryseptic spray.
