she changes the lyrics from “She is dancing away from you now” to “She is dancing away from me now” & “And her memory is all that is left for you now” to “And her memory is all that is left for ME now” & “you see your gypsy” to “I see my gypsy” she must really be hurting while singing this :( great song
SnazzyBoxx oh honey child you don’t know the half of it. Her best friend Robin (whom she’d known since they were 14) gave birth to a baby boy named Matthew, then died two days later in October 1982. Stevie had zero time to process her death as she was in the middle of FM’s Mirage tour. Cut to a couple months later, Stevie and Robin’s widower Kim married then divorced three months later. Now on the Wild Heart tour, Stevie was/is processing Robin’s passing. Gypsy is an anthem for both Stevie as the “Gypsy that remains” and to Robin whom the line “lightening strikes-maybe once, maybe twice” is written about. It’s an incredibly personal song which Stevie refused to perform for about a decade after the Wild Heart tour because she couldn’t sing it without tearing up. Her vocals just gave out. Robin’s death nearly killed Stevie. I’m not exaggerating. Stevie almost overdosed and had severe pneumonia for about a week afterward. FM had to reschedule two performances for later in the tour because Stevie was a walking corpse. To this day she says losing Robin is the most horrible experience she’s ever had to go through in her life. Robin was the gypsy who danced away 38 years ago; Stevie is the gypsy that remains and keeps her spirit alive. If you have a friend who is more family than friend, tell them. Remind them you love them. They could dance away at any moment.
Love this! So rare to find footage of "The Wild Heart" tour. And give her a break--of course she's stoned! It was 1983...everybody was! We ALL were. It was RAINING cocaine back in those days...I'm just glad I lived to see today; but I wouldn't have missed a single moment of those days for all the world. I remember buying Stevie's "The Wild Heart" album (vinyl, of course)...and inside the album sleeve, Stevie wrote, "This album is dedicated to Robin for her brave, wild heart...and to the gypsies...that remain..." The song "Gypsy" was written in memory of Stevie's best friend Robin Anderson who died from leukemia.
She has a distinctive voice and technique. Apparently, you do not like it, but that has no bearing on others' like for it. Millions, MILLIONS, genuinely like or love her voice.
Actually...this is my VERY favorite video recording of Gypsy. I LOVE IT. It's 100% genuine Stevie of that time and season...emotional, crying, smiling, giving her SOUL to us...can you ask for any more? I have all of her albums. I don't honestly think they sound BETTER....they sound DIFFERENT. Live and studio performances ARE different and I LIKE that. It's what makes me want BOTH!! :) They're like two different experiences, both equally compelling and enchanting.
This song was written in tribute to her best friend of several years, who had recently died of leukemia. That's where the line "I still see your bright eyes" (and occasionally "I can't find you") came from. She sounds flat because this was a very emotional song for her to sing - she's actually said she doesn't like to sing it live at all, because it hits her too hard.
@@duskomales8219 but Pete Green had left the band eons before..and you may not have noticed, but Pete named his band Fleetwood Mac, before he had even gotten Mick and John to join ( not a bad ploy, it worked), and Fleetwood and Mac have been the constants throughout the many incarnations of FM. And comparing Stevie to Pete..how even? Pete had left the band quite some several incarnations before Buckingham/Nicks came on board, its not like Pete got shafted in any way. Pete era Mac and Buckingham/Nicks era Mac are both great in their own ways. And why compare Stevie to Pete anyway? The comparison should be with Lindsey, and that man holds his own and upholds the spirit of Pete's vision for his 'favourite rhythm section', who are still going strong!
This blow s Fleetwood smack away........she was the shit. , ........ her an her alone gypsy love u through the thunder an rain lightning God an all the bs u r truly loved
Oh my goodness I damn near passed out when I saw the venue where this took place, I live right down the street from it in Prince Georges County, LOL. Its tore down now, and has been turned into an outdoor mall, a lot of great artist had concerts there
My queen the most beautiful woman on this Earth today inside and out rock on forever and ever you beautiful beautiful good witch I sang your songs all my life you are my life take me with you my queen take me with you
After watching the video, I was wondering why she was so distracted and wasn't sure where the "green light" mistakes came from (the band, Stevie or perhaps the video itself) until I read the comments. Good to see how the band managed to adapt.
dkcmusiclover well let's shoot up some speedballs!,she fucked her voice ten years cuz of that shit!,Your teaching little fucks bad habits idiot,YEAH WHO CARES
It's nice to see that rock goddesses, like Stevie, are also just girls underneath the glitz, glamor, drugs and stage power. (She liked the stuffed animals!!)
Who's the LOUD, off-key singer standing beside Sharon Celani? She looked and sounded like a crazed fan who just took over the mike...Clearly, Stevie was on the downward spiral toward rock bottom-she crashed hard just 3 years later, on the "Live at Red Rocks" DVD. It's painful to watch. Thank God she went to Betty Ford that year. I love Stevie Nicks and was worried. She reminded me of Elvis on his last tour. But she won--"Stevie Nicks-Live in Chicago" is her best DVD concert EVER. Bravo Stevie!
That's Stevie's then future sister-in-law Lori Perry. She always thought she was hot shit. Bad dancer for sure, but a good singer (mostly), but certainly something's "off" here. Even Stevie says she doesn't like looking at pictures and videos of herself from this period because she looks SO high. Drunk, high and full of herself then - and headed for a big fall. Fortunately, Stevie conquered her addictions and continued to "rock a little" for many more years.
Robert Grant OTs her sister in law,,She was her back up before sharon, if you knew anything abt Stevie Nicks, you wld know who Lori perry nicks! Shes on all her album covers and toured with FM in the day.
Where is this recording taken from, is this show available to buy on any format? I thought it was from the "In Concert" Laserdisc but Gypsy isnt on there! Any ideas?
It was the medication that the people at rehab gave her when she was trying to get off the coke. She gained weight and got severely depressed. But she made it through. She’s truly an inspiration
I rekon they so should put out the concert from the bella donna tour there is performances of eo17 and leather and lace from that show on dvds but i dont like the red rocks she wasnt in great form even a show from this tour the wild heart would have been good and they need to put the tusk doc out on dvd to
@jlalewicz yes poor baby she was on coke her vocals were so bad but still i love her regardless!! she still overcame that obstacle in life :) awww yes it was the 80s! ehehe
Badly done video...the back-up singer should be called, the "Let's-steal-the-show-from-Stevie" lady. Is that a bridesmaid dress she's wearing? She sings louder than Stevie! Dancing badly! For those of us who love Ms. Nicks, it's painful to watch her coked out of her mind. Someone tell her to PLEASE yank "Live from Red Rocks" from the shelves and put "The White Winged Dove Tour" ('82) out instead. This video shows her starting to unravel...I'm so happy she survived - and is better than ever!
FOR FUCKING SURE!!! I've been saying that forever and the Stevie fans bash ME!! How many bad concerts has she done especially after 1983!!!!!!!!!!!! Falling off the stage, crashing into stage lights oh but they say ""Oh my beautiful queen take me with you"!!!! My Goddess!! So bad and Red Rocks she went to BFord after THAT trainwreck!!
Lori dressed like little house on the fucki ng pririe. I said the same thing shitty dance moves and she's supposed to be a dancer!!! She's always waving her arms and Sharon is always so subtle.
she changes the lyrics from “She is dancing away from you now” to “She is dancing away from me now” & “And her memory is all that is left for you now” to “And her memory is all that is left for ME now” & “you see your gypsy” to “I see my gypsy” she must really be hurting while singing this :( great song

@@TesIaNews2024 That was a very horrible period that Stevie gone thru!!
She wiped tears from her eyes singing this
To much coke a cola
Everybody was skinny in the 70's and 80's. Gee I wonder why lol
She always changed the words to her songs. I love when she does that!
Bless her heart....losing her best friend to cancer and this song she dedicated in her remembrance. She's your angel Stevie!!!
I love it.
This is the ONLY Stevie solo tour where Gypsy was performend.
She did great!

R grant Well said
Stevie brushing away tears through this whole performance is heartbreaking. Poor girl.
The word legend isn't even worthy of describing stevie, she is THE best. We all love you stevie, stay young

Stevie Knicks was blessed with an awesome voice. No one has such a lovely voice like Stevie.
libby Flowers + Believe me there are much better voices than hers.
Karen Carpenter
@@PerpetualArt Agree 💯!!!
Wow where is talent like this these days, the kind of voices that move you....
Classic, timeless, Stevie Nicks. Just a beautiful song.
Stevie Nicks is the reigning high priestess
of rock and roll. Stevie is a poet, artist and singer. She quit cocaine in 1986!
His organ really plays on Gold Dust Woman on this tour. His organ makes the song so dark and hard and mysterious. The song was never the same again.
i am so high right now , and u should totally smoke out and watch them live on youtube , they are even more amazing right now .

fucking great !
@INF3darkgreen she can sing high, she can sing low, she can sing solo... but it is very! hard! to sing this when you're crying.
Es fantástica, simplemente inmortal.
This tour has been the ONLY time Stevie sang gypsy live on a solo tour.
Look it up here. 1983 Wild Heart Tour show opener. This poster should have the song.
Well I have no fear, I have only love.
wow her eyes are glistening like snow(coke)
THE BEST
she is higher than a kite here. In my opinion of course. Just going by what she has said about here drug and rehab days.
GOT TO GO TOUCH MYSELF NOW, THANKS STEVIE YOU RULE!
B E A U T I F U L!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@amilheim I only questioned it because her other performances are completely out there (and awesome!). This one seems so sober.
It's nice to see that rock goddesses, like Stevie, are also just girls underneath the glitz, glamor, drugs and stage power. (She liked the stuffed animals!!)
DocDLH NO she carried her drugs around in her "voudoun"Dolls!,she's fried!

She's amazing! If she's stoned or not...What ? Her voice is beautiful. Period.
Masterpiece...y quizás su mejor live version...
@bustercotten332 John McVie didn't play bass on this tour; it was Stevie's own band, not Fleetwood Mac.
my soul sister
Wasn't Bob Glaub on bass?

Insuperable. Maravillosa. ¿La mejor versión en directo???
Do you know where i can get this tour on dvd?
thanks
who cares if she's high, she's still "THE LOVE" & can sing with it too !!!!!!
@raptor96 she was done before us her best friend just had died at that time
listen to McVies bass, very underrated.
Cute penguin lol!
Good for you! Don't be embarassed by the reputation, connotation and experience of others!
The whole point of live music is to make each performance different. If She makes her voice sound stressed then that is most probs deliberate.
Where is this recording taken from, is this show available to buy on any format? I thought it was from the "In Concert" Laserdisc but Gypsy isnt on there! Any ideas?
white horse? "you can ride high atop your pony,,,i know you won't fall cuz the whole thing's phony" to quote ms. nicks
She had 4 bk up singers on this tour!?!?!
Three, Sharon Celani, Lori Psaltis, and Marylin Martin. Marylin isn't her though, she joined later, in August I believe.

I am sure Stevie has 5000 beanie babies.
And off the stage she goes for MORE coke.... Wow... It's amazing she even survived all those years.....

perry wayne of back then...the gypsy.
Can't say I blame waddy for skipping on the solo...it's a tough one
is it just me aw was she very thin in 1983 and how come she got big in 1985
