Javi.... I've been a magician for most of my life I just turned 61. I know what you did....I just can't SEE IT!!!! My wife and I are watching FU on TV and I must have played it back 20 times and STILL CAN'T SEE IT!!!!! You are inspirational my friend! Truly.... UNBELIEVABLE!
What I really appreciate about Penn & Teller is their honesty. They basically said that if Javi had performed this trick at another time he might have fooled them but only because of their intense study did they figure it out. And yes: an awesome trick, I really loved watching this!
I'm so glad that Penn and Taylor actually figure out some of these tricks. Watching these on RUclips, I start to think that they deliberately don't figure them out just so they don't make the magicians feel bad. But I watched this over and over, frame by frame, and I couldn't figure it out. So you fooled me!
Read it again. “The best sleight of hand anyone will ever SEE.” The best sleight of hand you dont see ;) Still an amazing trick. And no, I did not see anything.
At 3:05 he transfers a rolled up complete thread from his right hand to between his fingers along with the rolled up smaller piece from the table. This long thread is what he will eventually reveal at the end. He then rolls the two pieces into a ball and passes it to Alison (at 3:16). At the end, he finds an end of the complete long thread and pulls it out. At the same time, he hides the several small pieces by keeping them squished in the ball between his thumb and forefinger. The level of skill and dexterity to pull this off so smoothly is incredible!!! Also, you would almost swear that he never touched the thread at all until right at the end (when he ctually does from 3:07 to 3:15), which makes the trick seem even more amazing; this masterful level of misdirection is up there with the best in the world!!!
This is true magic. I know the principle, I know what had happened, I replay the footage again and again but I see nothing. This is a level of ability I can only dream about... incredible.
I'm always a little conflicted when some trick performed with technical excellence doesn't fool Penn and Teller because they know the technique, but some BS trick does fool them because the magician purposefully misled them into thinking it was done a different way. I guess that's just the nature of the show, but Javi is one of the most skilled magicians I've seen on this show and I've watched every episode. You can tell Penn and Teller appreciated the execution, even though they knew what was happening. It's like trying trying to explain how an atomic bomb works and saying "so you just collided neutrons so they released a lot of energy." Its true, but there's so much more to it than that.
well at 3.03 you can see that he is fumbling a bit with his right han just before he picks up the first piece of thread, the part where he is getting his other uncut thread in position between his index and thumb so he is ready to give it all to allison.
@@walterjohnson8127 if you notice, after allison put it back on the mat, the way he look's at it, he want to pick it up and "pinch" it the right way to separate the individual from the long thread that he had fold in a special i believe "tight" way, so that it would'nt really "mix up" with the other pieces.... if you look close, the big pile he picks up, is a bit bigger, then after he "pinch" the individual pieces away... i was looking trough the video in 0.25x speed to see it....
@@walterjohnson8127 I know what he is doing and when he is doing it but I still cant catch it. He places a second more tightly winded ball of string up into Allison's hands when she is gathering string. When Allison rolls the string she rolls the second ball of unbroken string with the broken string. Its impossible for Allison to wind the broken string as tightly as he prewinded the unbroken string. When he picks up the string he can see the side the more tightly winded unbroken string is sticking out of and pinches tightly the side where the broken string is and just leaves the premade tightly winded ball showing. You cannot see any of the broken string he hides it so well and even switches hands with it right in front of them. This is what he did I dont know if I'm explaining ot correctly but this is what he did.
That was absolutely ridiculous!! You sir are amazing. The first time in a long time someone has had my full 100% focus. I've rewatched it over and over trying to see when and where it took place but I still cant see it... BEAUTIFUL!!!
I have to come back to Javi's appearances on Fool Us just because the tricks amaze me and his personality is even more amazing. Thank you for the wonderful entertainment and the joy you bring to those who appreciate what you do.
At 3:06 the intact string is in his right hand and he shuffles it up to his fingers. He puts it in her hand at 3:16. At 5:06 he separates the broken pieces from the intact ball. Very well done and way beyond my dexterity level.
Thank you, Javi! Apart from your astounding skills, I must give you praise just for your performance. The relaxed, almost intimate framing. *::SPOILERS FOR HOW TRICK IS DONE FOLLOWS::* Slip to .25x speed at 5:02 It's a close up of the ball of thread. Follow it close. You can see him only rolling the side he picked up, a very frayed bunch-- not the entire ball. he's using a small circular motion to "pull" the torn pieces out from the intact ball he added at around 3:07 when handing the torn strings to Allison, who then rolled it all together. Notice how once he's done, the ball is suddenly is 1/3 the size when he starts pulling on the string, even though he never rolled that part up? The torn up pieces are hidden in between his thumb and index finger which is why he was holding the string between his fingers, and was so particular with how he moved from one hand to the other. Good friggin trick, man. That was some great stuff! Apologies if I'm a little wrong on timing. I watched it a few times to piece the trick together on my own.
This is one of those tricks where once you know the method it makes it even more amazing. "lets do the dirty work with no misdirection and the camera zoomed in all the way." Good one sir.

@FIDIRONU The magic happened when he grabbed a couple of pieces and handed them to Allison. I don't know what happened to the individual pieces, but I'm thinking that's when he handed her the "restored thread"... But where did all the other pieces go?
@@jupitereye4322 Some of the other comments I believe are correct that he took the risk of having the single thread ball in his fingers when he picked up the collection of torn strings. Then when he picked up the combined ball, he pinched the torn strings ball and stole it from the ball of one single thread, keeping the torn strings ball hidden between his first finger and thumb, ditching it later. The powder was a separate effect.
@@jupitereye4322 You got it guys and playing it back at .25 speed you can see him separate the torn strings from the whole string. The ball he pulls apart is much smaller than the ball of string that was initially on the table and he is pinching the ball of torn string extreeeemely tight. I do have one observation, the length of string he starts out with is very long, if you put all the pieces of string together that were on the black matt it would barely add up to half the length of that original string. I wonder if they edited something out.
Maybe I'm not understanding the comments right. I think he slipped the single thread ball into her hand while he was picling up the torn pieces. Or maybe earlier or later, but by the time he's picking it up after everyone did the hand thing above it, it does seem like he was seperating the single thread ball from the torn one. But how does he know where to pinch, wouldn't the single thread be mixed with the torn pieces. Alison picked some other threads after he stopped touching the them and when she is twirling it up in her palm, some would get mixed and tangled with the single thread ball. It would be easier if at one point when he picked up the ball the whole ball was cover woth hos fingers as he pinched, becayse he could've had the long thread in his hand before. But the way he handled the ball, there doesn't seem to be a way to sneak in yhe long thread, the entire ball was always on vision even wgen he was pocking up the ends.
I think this is my favorite act that didn’t fool them. Mind blowing experience seeing the magic, and what an incredible personality - you make the audience feel emotions. This magic isn’t a trick, it’s an emotional experience, an engaging story. So beautiful. Lots of magicians talk about how the story is important, but that’s a method of delivery, to make a logical progression of disbelief. You tell a story that affects people, that tugs at their heart.

The first part was beautiful but that was too obvious. You can see his right hand cupping the switch from the moment he stands up. Easily spotted at full speed on the first go. I was actually expecting the broken pieces of string rather than cocaine.

Javi. Es un orgullo para los españoles que vayas representándonos por el mundo con un increíble habilidad, simpatía y profesionalidad. Un abrazo de un gaditano viviendo en EEUU.
Well done! And such a great presentation of the fascination of the art form in such an intimate climate, even though on tv around the world. I felt like a child again! 🏆
He is palming another long string in his hands the whole beginning. Just before picking up string pieces he moves it to his pointer finger and thumb and picks up a couple strands. He gives this to Alyson. All the small strings are on the outside of the ball. When he picks up the string ball he first moved all the small pieces over the ball to the left side and pinches them hiding them. The center string ball is now exposed and he pulls it to unravel.
Notice at 3:16 is when he puts the string in her hand. He hand her the pieces, but notice he adds a little extra push into her hand. That is when he passes her the complete ball. When he unravels, he is simply separating the complete ball he passer her, with the pieces that she collected. You will notice how large the ball is sitting on the table.
i liked breaking this one down. excellent slide of hand. have a pretty good idea of how it was done. his first trick. the cards. didn't even bother. mind blowing that one.
He switches the string in Allison’s hand without her even being aware of it. He has not only mastered slight of hand he has mastered sleight of hand for anyone he come in contact with. I think this is how’s its done, but I could be wrong. Very nice either way!
I think he switched it as he handed it to Allison. So smooth. Then when he squeezed the ball of string he grabbed the loose pieces, leaving only the complete string. So talented, and to do that up close in front of Penn and Teller is incredible.
Not sure if I am on the right track but after showing his empty hands at the 3:42 mark his right hand reached and toughed his rolled-up sleeve. Maybe that was the first step of getting the rolled up 1 piece of thread. Right after that he toughed Penns arm and just a little later toughed his arm the same place again...... wondering if he put it there briefly, picked up later and made the transfer to Allison's hand.
@@danieljmoore What move exactly? I was staring at his fingers, and even though it does look suspicious, I don't actually see anything happening. When he hands the string to Allyson, he opens his hand after. If he handed her unbroken string, she also had broken string...so I still don't exactly see what happened.
@@TheEthikos When he's saying "pick one up like this!" He's moving the unbroken string ball from under his pinky/ring fingers to his index/thumb. He then puts that in Allison's hand. Watch how he flourishes his hand. He's doing it while misdirecting with sort of a flippant gesture, throwing his hand up. But thats the misdirect to get the string where he needs it. It's really smooth and hard to see unless you're looking for it. That's why Penn and Teller saw him do it, they were watching his hands.
Around 3:10 is where the 'Magic' Happens. (Starts too) I hate that Penn & Teller got this because Mr Benitez did such an incredible Illusion here. Amazing👍. Oh and, BTW Allison, looking so, SO good. 🙌
Blah can you further elaborate? I can see why you chose that timeframe because thats when he touches the string(s) but i really cant see how and where did the other pieces go
Probably the most serious post-trick conversation the magician and P+T have ever had. That makes me think there was some truly upper echelon magic skill going on here.
3:16 he loads the final unbroken ball of thread into her hand. 5:03 he is inspecting the ball to find the portion he loaded that was unbroken. Once he is confident it is located, he VERY strongly squeezes the ball so the broken pieces are now between his finder and "disappeared". The exposed part is now only the unbroken ball (and half the mass). If you freeze frame, you will see a frame where the broken pieces are behind the tip of his index and thumb. He brings his middle finger down to "roll" it back further. 5:20 the broken string ball is transferred to his other hand. 5:51, string finally discarded.
I had to watch it a couple of times just to see when you could've made the two switches. Even then though, I didn't actually see anything . . . . I just spotted when you performed the swap. Best I think I've ever seen.
at 3:16 I believe he hands her a portion of the string that wont tangle with the rest? at 5:02 he turns the ball of string in order to firmly grip the specific portion of the string that will not unravel.

"You in the bathroom on your mobile phone"
Me in the bathroom on my mobile phone: :o
magic!!!
Wtf you sorcerer
Same
Caguen la mar, que pasada de efecto! Enhorabuena!
Best Gipsy Thread Miracle i've ever seen, Bravo Javi!!!
Teller is truly a legend in the magic world. But what a great trick and method.
great performance.
i am proud to saw this masterpiece live
love from berlin, germany
Thanks David!!!
@@javibenitezmagic thank you too
A master of slight of hand.... outstanding Javi !
Beautiful performance Javi. You continue to inspire my own art!
I like that guy a lot. something about him , he gives off a really positive energy and the world needs more of that right now.
Both his performances were the best I've ever seen in this show. No clue how he did them.
zmast333 I loved his card illusion. Total brilliance and sleight of hand mastery. But tbh threads just don’t do it for me.
What’s funny is that at this very moment... I’m sitting on the toilet right now 😂🤦🏽♂️💯
Same 😂😂🙈🙈
Why everyone is there?,
Including me😱
Great job. Doesn’t matter that P&T knew it was awesome!
Got to say, you're a dork and it is absolutely adorable. I love your charisma on stage.
Kevin McGuire I’ve watched it several times and I believe you’re correct, the ball he separated is smaller than what he picked up. Nice catch
Penn after literally every trick : "Boy, [compliment]"
Whenever he starts with "We love you" I know they weren't fooled.
Whenever he starts with a compliment, he's not fooled
Well, I doubt they would invite magicians they hate... I have not seen Criss Angel still:p
😅 😅 Very true
i liked breaking this one down. excellent slide of hand. have a pretty good idea of how it was done. his first trick. the cards. didn't even bother. mind blowing that one.
He switches the string in Allison’s hand without her even being aware of it. He has not only mastered slight of hand he has mastered sleight of hand for anyone he come in contact with.
I think this is how’s its done, but I could be wrong. Very nice either way!
tinyman520 I think you might be wrong the only sleight of hand was at the end when he changed it to chalk
I think he switched it as he handed it to Allison. So smooth. Then when he squeezed the ball of string he grabbed the loose pieces, leaving only the complete string. So talented, and to do that up close in front of Penn and Teller is incredible.
These magicians are getting better and better and better ...
Javi - I love your energy and you are so talented. I can't to see you back on the stage again :) !
That was very good, it took me so many rewatches to catch what he did.
3:04 - Sleight of hand right there.
I figured it out how he did it and made Alyson do the magic...Impressive sleight of hand..
excellent performance..
Javi is an amazing magician, always delivers exceeding expectations. and what makes it more magical is his messages.
I think this is one of the best and beautiful magic trick of all-time in Penn and Teller
He's really a magician I was in the bathroom with my phone xD
Not sure if I am on the right track but after showing his empty hands at the 3:42 mark his right hand reached and toughed his rolled-up sleeve. Maybe that was the first step of getting the rolled up 1 piece of thread. Right after that he toughed Penns arm and just a little later toughed his arm the same place again...... wondering if he put it there briefly, picked up later and made the transfer to Allison's hand.
I naturally just love this guy he seems so happy - a good soul
Javi, that was sensational. Congratulations🙏🏽
Thanks so much Vincent! I still remember your performance in Dresde 1997. You’re an inspiration to me.
Javi, you are one cheeky bastard to do this the way that you did. Amazing! As smooth as it gets. Best Gypsy Thread I have seen.
Uncanny. Even knowing Al Baker’s version, I am blown to pieces.
03:03 "Grab one of the pieces like this"
It's incredible sleight of hand and his physical misdirection is perfect, but you can see when he makes the move.
@@TheEthikos they unroll the string next to, not over the table and the pieces falling down are just too small to see
Still the best! They just happen to be researching it. Absolutely fooled everyone and would've fooled them too.
I can see why you chose that timeframe because thats when he touches the string(s) but i really cant see how and where did the other pieces go
If you’re seeing what I’m seeing, then I’m with you on that. I only know a small portion. The rest I can’t figure out.

Probably the most serious post-trick conversation the magician and P+T have ever had. That makes me think there was some truly upper echelon magic skill going on here.
Goosebumps.
That was awesome.
Subscribed.
Very beautiful! So simple and elegant with a lot of skill. Love it!
The real magic is making Teller speak XD
Amazing sleight of hand
Teller just went "hail hydra" on him. Let's be real here
Thank you for your heart warming energy + skill. You are amazing
I don't care how the trick was done. I only enjoy watching the magic tricks.
I'm the exact opposite.
Amazing. You are very smart and very fast.
Dat feeling when Slavoj Zizek starts doing magic
VierasTalo *sniffles* magic is pure ideology
at 3:16 I believe he hands her a portion of the string that wont tangle with the rest? at 5:02 he turns the ball of string in order to firmly grip the specific portion of the string that will not unravel.
