  • Panasonic HC-wxf1 Camcorder and Canon Vixia HF-G50 are 4k Camcorders. Image Stabilization Tests were done at 1080p 60fps. The weather conditions were cloudy. The Panasonic also has a leveling stabilizer in addition to the anti shake. Standing still, walking, running and zooming methods were used.
The videos have not been changed during editing. Test footage is as direct from the camera as can be. The microphone on the Canon was set to wide which sounds like increased the gain, making it louder and bad for talking. The Panasonic microphone was set to normal stereo.
The Panasonic camcorder seems to be close to the Sony ax53 and ax43 cameras. As they have 5.1 microphones and night vision. #panasoniccamcorder #canoncamcorder #imagestabilization If you would like me to consider reviewing your product please send a email to OldTradesAudio@Hotmail.com. Thanks for the video. I'm looking to purchase a camcorder for my podcast and been researching for weeks. Narrowed it down to 4 and was hoping to get some advice on a final decision. I narrowed it down to the Sony FDR-AX53, Panasonic HC-VXF1, Canon HF-G50 and Canon HF-G60. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your welcome. Thanks for watching. I owned the ax53 for a while as well. i have never the owned the G60. The sony any Panasonic are close in alot of ways. If its just for indoor shooting on a tripod the sony may be a bit better for low light.

Obviously, the Panasonic is better for stability and the Canon looks to have a better image quality on your tests, but maybe the Panasonic could be made better in post? I film a lot of bands using various camcorders and as I do a lot of handheld shots on the telephoto end, stabilization is important. I use a Panasonic VXF990 that probably uses the same stabilization as the F1 that is good, but I also use a GoPro, and a Sony AX53 that is excellent, however apart from the problem with the fact that you can't set the shutter speed and the iris independently on the Sony there is one really annoying thing that bugs me, and that is the auto focus is very slow and "seriously" bad under certain "contrasty" conditions that makes the footage unusable, and the manual focus is a joke. The Canon does "seem" to have better audio on your tests but that may well be how the setting was put into the Panasonic's audio settings? as it was just louder with more wind noise. The sound doesn't bother me as I use a separate audio recorder and only use the camera audio track to sync it in post. I just want one camcorder that can do all of the things that I need, as long as it's not too big and heavy!

Imagine GoPro start making "normal" cameras and camcorders.

I am surprised they have not yet. Apparently they have a gimbal camera in the works

I wish I had cane across your video before buying the G50. I do aviation videos and the G50 video stabilization isn't good with fast motion panning and zooming when handheld. I agree the image quality and sound is superb. I had the AX53 until it broke on me and may go back to it but the panasonic seems to have great stabilization that could work well for handheld aviation video

I also had the Sony ax53. The image stabilizer on the panasonic is much better.

Thanks so much for posting this video. I am looking to switch from the Panasonic to the Canon so it's incredibly useful to have this.
IMHO the Panasonic lens is fantastic, as is the stabilization. However its picture and sensor to me isn't as nice as the Canon from this video, plus other canons I have used. The Panasonic audio metering is also terrible and the audio noisier than others but it's hardly a pro camera to be fair. Such a shame as the optics are great.

The Canon seems like it has better image quality. Besides the size. What areas do you think the Panasonic is better at? I'm looking at those vs the ax43 or jumping up to the Pana X1500. Can't decide. Thanks

Panasonic has better low light . I have a video that shows that. panasonic also much better image stabilizer and wider angle lens. . . I had Sony ax53 for over year. Its good all round. Panasonic has better image stabilizer then sony. Audio is the same. Sonys low light might be s bit better.
