  • Castlevania Month: The Finale!
    Thank you all for sticking with me this month as I paid tribute to one of the greatest and most influential series in video game history. Castlevania is a series I've loved since I was a child, and this month has served as a tribute to all the memories its given me, both good and bad. Ever since its first game on the NES, to the modern era of gaming, Castlevania has produced some incredible games. So what better way to finish off this month than to count down my favorite games in the series on Halloween? These are the games that I had the best time with, whether its for their gameplay, their stories, their characters, or something else. So sit back, grab your wall chicken, and enjoy the grand finale of Castlevania Month!

      Mad Jack I only slightly prefer Dawn of Sorrow, that’s because they upgraded the soul system and let me improve the weaker souls *Cough*Skeleton*Cough* and some of those improvements had genuinely amazing effects *Cough*BombArmor*Cough*.

    I think complaining about voice acting in localized games is pointless. Even if you hate the voice acting in the _English_ version of SoTN, that's not a flaw of the game itself, its a flaw of the localization staff.

    • @VixXstazosJOB
      @VixXstazosJOB 5 лет назад +3

      and not even a flaw at all, unless if it's bad voice acting, not different voice acting

      True but voice acting can still make or break an experience

    • @ImDemonAlchemist
      @ImDemonAlchemist 2 года назад +1

      @Tom Ffrench I mean, Castlevania 2 has other flaws, aside from poor localization. Besides, I'm not saying it's unfair to complain because of poor localization, but it's not fair to dock the game itself for that. It's a fault of the localization staff, it's completely fair to be upset and for that to hurt your experience. It just doesn't lower the quality of the game itself. Like, it's not fair to talk shit on Dragon Ball Z, because you watched the Ocean Dub. The dub is bad, but that doesn't make the series bad.

    One thing can be said about Aria for certain, it's art style for character portraits is awesome, I liked them better than Dawn of Sorrow. I mean yeah I like anime quite a bit but it just didn't really fit the whole theme of vampires and such. Also Julius Belmont has one of, if not THE most powerful Grand Cross attack in the CV series. I mean look at the damage it did to the stage, not just around you but in the background during and after the battle with him...and remember, he's in his 50's now. Konami really done us a disservice by not releasing a game that let us play the battle of 1999, when Julius was in his prime. I can't have been the only CV fan wanting and drooling at the thought of how epic that final battle against Vlad would have been. I feel your pain QG on waiting till 2017 for Bloodstained but at least it'll be better than not having a CV game period considering the last CV from Konami was a Pachislot game and that's the future of it unless something MAJOR happens with them.

    • @kingkongmalunggay
      @kingkongmalunggay 3 года назад

      i agree with you on Konami developing a 1999 Julius battle with Dracula. we deserve something like that. but let's also face the fact that Konami has focused on less risk, high profit games, such as Castlevania slot machines.

    Okay here we go. HAVE AT YOU!
    10. Nice to see what happened after Castlevania 3. Also, Crispin Freeman is a great voice actor. He was Zelgadis in Slayers, Mathias in Lament of Innocence and Alucard in Hecksing. And aside from Infinite we don't hear much of Liam O' Brien anymore. Curse you Voice Actor Strike. Laura Bailey would still be Lucina if it wasn't for you.
    9. I watched a playthrough of this and I'm torn between this and Portrai of Ruin as my first Castlevania game. And for Shanoa, being voiced by Michelle Ruff, aka Rukia, Yoko and Luna, doesn't hurt her character either.
    8. Makes you wish they brought more to the table or touched up what they already had. Bringing in Maria from SotN would be a good start.
    7. Well actually they're Eric's daughters, but imagine the child of Jonathan and Charlotte...
    6. How appropriate we get to talk about the events that drove Brauner to madness. Imagine if you will Brauner getting the chance to kill Elizabeth Bartley for assassinating Archduke Ferdinand, thus beginning World War I and killing his daughters.
    5. Ah yes, the epic saga of Trevor Belmont.
    4. Not to mention the... oh wait... given the time frame no way Maria was voiced by Michelle Ruff in this game.
    3. Granted the port had better va work. I mean a few years and David Vincent is back as Richter in Smash.
    2. Not to mention this was the birth of the greatest song ever, Simon's Theme.
    Honorable Mentions: The between kid of OoE and LoD, Nice for starters, Carmilla serves a purpose. Christopher Belmont looks awesome, Simon's Early days, Leon Belmont = Izanagi and The grand finale of the original series.
    1. This had the biggest plot twist, which everyone knows by now.

    10: Yeah, Never played it. Not allowed yet.
    9: Played a little bit of it, liked it, still need to play more.
    8: Actually wanna play this. I guess I need to play more Castlevania titles.
    7: YES. YES. This is one of my favorite DS games ever. SOOO Good. Almost nothing wrong with it.
    6: Still want a continue hack for it. There's a reason I don't wanna get a Ninja Gaiden III Cartridge!
    5: Man, the Famicom version of this is really good. Just gotta scale down the Clock Tower.
    4: Great game to play on the PSP. Seems right at home on it, Along with...
    3: It's a sweet game, but not the best. Still don't like playing the Inverted Castle.
    2: Eh. Not a big fan of this game. Not that I hate it, just have SOOO Many games to play, can't make room for this one.
    Honorable Mentions: 1: THIS GAME NEEDS MORE HACKS. Seriously, Hugh playable hack needs to happen. Also, I think if I can hack this game, I'd make a hack for more weapons, replacing the Mars Card with equippable weapons. Who wouldn't wanna punch Dracula in the face with your BARE FISTS?
    2: Gotta play more, But the GB version is okay if you get a speed hack.
    3: Man. Last time I played this was on the GBA. Around 2006.
    4: Same with 10.
    5: Man, what a good game. Love playing Julius Mode. Also, the Succubus glitch is awesome.
    1: Is rly good. But I honestly think Circle of the Moon is my favorite. Many moments where you have low health and gotta get to a save point is super great when you do get to one, the DSS System is a really good mechanic, (While I am cheating to use Thunderbird way before I'm supposed to) and while the graphics look dark, playing on a GBA Micro is the way to go. Also, Harmony of Dissanence is actually pretty good. Haven't played it in awhile, but definitely will soon. Just with a map. From Nintendo Power.

    10: If I can get a TV to use my PS2 on, I might search for this game and try it...
    9: I played this game a bit, and it's pretty good... minus the goddamn crab. Oh, and Barlowe... Get eaten by a demon in hell.
    8: You certainly had fun playing it while you were streaming! But will I like if I ever get the means to play it? ... It remains to be seen.
    7: Better to get a cartridge than playing it on emulator, for handling's sake... But I have a feeling it'll be pricey to high Heaven, Hell and Center. Oh, well. I still have my cartridge of Dawn of Sorrow... that my brother got from a friend! FREE!
    6: At least, you can adjust the amount of lives you have at the start.
    5: Somecallmejohnny just HATES the stairs in this game... As for me... I didn't go far yet.
    4: Never underestimate Maria Renard!! MARIA IS AWESOME!
    3: Now THAT is an awesome game! Overrated? Maybe, but I personally think it's a great game, and I played it! Therefore, while overrated for some people, the praise it gets is well deserved. But of course, I agree about the fact it's not THE best. And while the voice acting is silly... It was during the PS1 era, silly voice acting is kinda expected... Besides, there's worse. Like Bubsy 3D.
    2: Ah, yes, suuch a great game.
    1: Expected choice? Well... yeah, but who cares! This game is pure awesome! And I thank Iga for this greatness! And just Iga. Because, let's be real, everyone... Konami is Konami, and Konami is the worst now. Fuck. Konami. #FucKonami

    I've played all the DS titles and Symphony of the Night, and while SOTN is my favorite, I hold a very soft spot of Portrait of Ruin. it was actually the first real videogame I played (my grandparents gave it to me as a birthday present with my first DS) and I loved it, so it kind of ended up sealing my love for Castlevania as well, especially once I found out there was such an expansive story.
    (I wasn't allowed to play games on Nintendo or PlayStation growing up, I was restricted to the Harry Potter computer games Thank you Castlevania for existing!).

    Quarter Guy, you have two chains wrapped around each leg, 1 for not mentioning something about Dracula X, the other for not even noticing the arcade game Castlevania Haunted Castle. The Dracula X chain is broken. But you still have the Haunted Castle chain attached to the other leg. My advice is in order for you to let the 2nd chain brake free is to at least make Top 10 Castlevania Themes 2 with Haunted Castle's Cross Your Heart as one of the songs in the list. Got it?

    I would agree but Aria was just so soul crushing if you want to get the souls (i.e the whole point of the game).
    At least when you're grinding the same kill over and over and over and over and over for XP you're getting something out of each kill even if it's small. But even when you buy the expensive soul eater ring it's still a complete pain in the ass.
    It's like going from banging your head against a wall for a little xp to banging your head against a wall for absolutely nothing.

    I honestly didn't find Aria of Sorrow's story to be anything special. Sure, it's better than most Castlevania games, but those weren't anything special either. It's not bad or anything and the gameplay is still perfectly fine, but that's just what I think.Harmony of Dissonance is actually one of my favorites. I didn't mind the music unlike most people(it sounded dissonant, exactly what it says on the tin), and Juste is so much fun to control due to his powerful spells that you can mix and match with the sub weapons.

    I think you undersell the quality in the NES games' design. While I personally think Super Castlevania IV is more fun, I definitely think there is value in the intentionally limited controls of the older games. They (at least Castlevania 1 and 3) are more meticulously designed as a result. Watch Egoraptor's Sequelitis videos on the subject if you want to see what I mean. Maybe don't watch the first one if you like Simon's Quest, because he is brutally unfair to that game.
