Castlevania Judgment is one of my guilty pleasures in gaming. It's known for being very flawed, and the fanbase in general seems to look down on this game. Yet, at the same time, I had a LOT of fun with it. So this week, I'm going to look at how each of the characters in the game were handled...but I'm not alone this time!
The Green Scorpion decided to come along for the ride as well this time!

#11 I'm starting to see where the inspiration for Camilla from Fates came from.
Has anyone noticed that in this game that Simon looks like Light Yagami, Maria looks like Misa Amane, and Aeon looks like Near (Death Note)

Something tells me Viridi might like Sypha.
To me, Sypha Belnades is the most despicable character. To begin with, she thinks that everyone tainted in darkness is evil and will kill them without mercy. We all know that it is false. There are good people even with ones tainted by darkness.
She doesn't understand that not all children of the night are evil. Good natured people tainted in darkness are Shanoa, Cornell, and Alucard.
+Timmy Menard thats especially annoying when you think about the fact that she wants to get rid of the unfair oppression against her brethren as witches are usually classified as evil or wicked, yet she mercilessly attacks anyone tainted by darkness just as you said. makes her very hypocritical
Is it wrong to ship her with Patrokolis cause they'd be pretty much the same
Good thing that they made Sypha a much better and likable character in the Castlevenia Netflix series
At least Sypha DOSEN’T kill innocent people and blame them and knew who is the bad guy.
If only she got her Netflix adaptation instead.
For #10: Golem was more human that many people *sniff*. He was a hero.
For #9: She is the lost twin sister of Maud Pie.
14: My other problem with her is her spamming the bicycle kick when a computer plays as her.
13: Thank goodness her cartoon counterpart is much better. She isn't even a priestess in it.
12: Irritating; that is the word I would use to describe him.
11: I'd actually take this version over the cartoon version since the latter is concerningly manipulative.
10: Despite being one of the more sympathetic characters, he's still a bit scary with how powerful he is. That's why I put the cutest accessories on him.
9: I liked Shanoa actually. Even if I don't make it a HABIT of playing as her. Ayyyyyyy!
8: One of my favorite redesigns. He is a badass.
Between 3:17 and 4:38 sure makes me glad that Sypha develops in the Anime.
7:50 Sure, you think that finsher is disturbing now... but when she's fighting Maria or Eric, it goes straight into "bad touch" territory!

Interesting that Shanoa's hyper attack includes that light and dark energy orbs that Albus uses in Order of Ecclesia.

I got this game for Christmas and I LOVE it.
+The Quarter Guy, One of best part of Carmilla is her voice. If you set Castlevania Judgement om English, you hear Karen Strassman, If you set Castlevania Judgement on Japanese, you hear her Japanese countpart, Ohara Sayaka.
Good job. Hope Part 2 doesn't take too long.

my favorite for me is cornell the personallity his design his story mode amd battle style wich is more fun than grant althought grant story mode is more funny

He also has: increased mobility during his jump, an LB that spikes and makes for easy ring outs, Hyper Armor on AB AB and X, as well as some of the best links in the game (listed above), and a good Item Pool to choose from (Although Rocks and Gas are the go-to's)
Frankly Golem deserves a higher spot on this list, you said yourself that his Personality and Story were charming and interesting, and if he's supposed to be lacking in the moveset department... well I think you've read this comment so far. And yes, landing a hit with Golem is hard, but when you can convert into soany things so easily, it's hard to see any REAL issues with his playstyle.

I kinda wish they did more with Aeon tbh, would be cool to have him as a protagonist in a proper game. They could have put him in Harmony of Despair with unique time powers

+557deadpool Uh guys? I'm fairly certain they're joking. While GS has expressed his annoyance at SOME instances of overdone fanservice *cough cough* Dead or Alive *cough cough*, he's also a fan of characters such as Ivy from Soul Caliber and Bayonetta. And in relation to QG's comment, the only instance of fanservice I know he hates is Parace L'Sia (though it's mostly cuz she's the cheapest boss this side of SNK)

Huh. Was expecting this to be that collab with Maverick and Z you announced a while back, but I was right about the topic at least.
Atleast Sypha developed in the Anime. That was during the events or atleast based on the events of Draculara's Curse.
It's official Netflix is making a sequel series/"S5" to the anime and part of the announcement was that the sequel anime/"Season 5" will be an adaption of Rondo of Blood meaning the main protagonist Duo will be Richter Belmont and his future sister-in-law Maria Renard here's hoping the anime portrayal of Maria gets good character development.

@@loritaylor1602 Yes Richter is a direct descendent of Trevor as Trevor, Simon, and Richter are descended from the branch of the family that started with Leon Belmont.
But according to the canon of the Castlevania lore the Morris Family was married into the Belmont family via the marriage between Richter's daughter and Quincy Morris eventually resulting in the Morris clan coming into possession of the Vampire Killer after the events of SOTN. As Quincy's son John was in possession of it during Bloodlines, and John's son/Quincy's grandson Jonathan was in possession of it during the events of PoR and would become the only member of the Morris family to be allowed by Sarah the spirit of the Vampire Killer to wield the whip's true full power and not die after Jonathan successfully completed the Trials of the Whip which concluded with the Trial of the Memory aka Jonathan fighting the ghostly visage of his ancestor Richter Belmont.
it's just my opinion, but I think you guys were a bit too hard on Maria, especially since i just recently played through judgement. She is actually alot of fun to play as, at least for me, and her combos can flow pretty well and pretty painfully too. Also, i just found her adorbs at how positive she could be in a gothic setting like this, she definately made me smile alot. Also her story made me laugh as I just had fun with it. so yeah, Maria was pretty good for me in this game. Yes i know how she is in Symphony of The Night, but she is a lot younger in this game, so that doesn't really mean much. Maria is just a fun little girl that I enjoy playing as. ^^

Okay, time to add my two cents into the mix, no pun intended.
14. Okay Konami, either pick Maria from Rondo of Blood or Maria From Symphony of the Night, NOT During the transition period between the two. Also, Maria, you're gonna get tata's in Sotn. They won't be as big as Sypha's or heaven help us Carmilla's, but they'll be there. And for heaven's sake, whose bright idea was it to cast Philece Sampler, the voice of Mimi from Digimon, as Maria? Michelle Ruff would be a better substitute and who knows where the heck Kimberly Forsythe is.Even her special is forgettable if you haven't played Rondo of Blood. It's the protection spell she cast on Richter but she trips it up and casts it on her owl. As agent K would say, Konami, go home and try again. Do something, do ANYTHING to make Maria better.
13. Ugh, seriously. Sonia Blanche, who is also voiced by Dorothy-Elise Fahn, has more of a personality than Sypha does. If Judgement gets a sequel, pluck Sypha from AFTER the events of Castlevania III. At least the Netflix series gives her more of a personality.
12. Okay Konami, go to the corner and think about what you've done. Bringing in kid Eric is bad enough, but having Stephanie Sheh, the voice of Tharja, Histoire, Mikuru, Orihime and recently Usagi/Sailor Moon? That is going WAY TOO FAR! You're a good spear weilder, but next time Mr. time traveler, pluck Eric from anytime between the first and second world war.
11. At least she's better here than her previous incarnations. I mean she's just a mask in Simon's Quest, and she sits on a skull in two separate occasions. The first is in Rondo of Blood and the second is her more prominent role in Circle of the Moon. Having Karen Strassman, the voice of Anna, was a nice tough. This was Camilla before Camilla of FE Fates. Interesting factoid, Camilla was her name before the localizers got it right. Not a bad design. This version would beat the crud out of Nathan Graves.
10. The Golem is a symphathetic creature. He wants to fight for peace but at a cost. And having Jamieson Price, the voice of Walter, Priam, and Malik is neat. This is a guy you want on YOUR side.
9. Konami, YOU'RE GROUNDED! If you want Shanoa to be good, pluck her from AFTER the events of Order of Ecclesia. On the other hand, Storm Glyph is better than say using Dominus. And Michelle Ruff is as serious as ever.
8. Oh boy. Dracula has had many a va, but Patrick Seitz, the voice of Hector, Ragna and I think it was Dogi, tops them all. Not that Crispin Freeman or Richard Epcar aren't good choices, far from it. It would be interesting to see him go up against Soma Cruz.
Maybe when they say destroy his era they mean kill him removing his rule as king of darkness from history.

I absolutely adore this game. Here are some of the reasons why I love Castlevania Judgment: Amazing character designs, fantastic visuals, deep dialogue, memorable graphics and gameplay and the characters themselves are likable and memorable. I know the one problem people tend to have with it is the controls which is why I use the Wii Classic Controller to play it. Other than that, I dig it.
I can't tell who disliked this, Dracula for not getting a higher place, a Castlevania judgement hater, or the time reaper.
If they made a sequel that fixes it's flaws, makes the characters look normal, and of course, adds more fighters and modes, I would love Konami forever

Yeah, I am pretty sure Sypha Belnades wasn't like this in Dracula's Curse. She certainly wasn't like it in the cartoon and was still badass and had the most maturity. Even if she could be a bit comedic too.

Ok I know this video came out a while ago, but I've got a question: Why did Aeon pull Eric, Sypha, Maria and Shanoa into the timerift from these specific points in their lifes and not, say, AFTER their respective victories over Dracula?
They'd likely be more powerful and experienced, and in Eric and Maria's case, in their physical prime. I get why Cornell was pulled in before Legacy Of Darkness, and in Shanoa's case it's to avoid spoliers, but it still makes me scratch my head. Heck, Trevor, Grant and Alucard all got pulled in after Curse of Darkness, so again, why not Sypha as well?
Maybe he couldn't choose the best point in time to recruit them from? If he could, it would have been and endgame gear gangbang versus the bosses!

Sypha was handled way better in the Netflix anime.

To be fully honest, I don't hate Eric's personality as much as others. I think I can kind of understand why, since his clan has more or less been subject to just being support for the Morris clan.
Still, doesn't justify him being a brat, but I can...kind of understand why.

Cornell is my most favorite character in Judgment. And I'm embarrassed about Judgment's portrayal of pre-Bloodlines Eric Lacarde if they wanted to make him cocky about the power of the Alucard Spear that's fine. But why did they ruin it by turning him into a arrogant character we wanted to hit upside the head?
I, myself, loved Judgment. Too bad it never got remade.
Honestly as much as I hated the Maria's story her a+b wave attack was so spammy. You could almost stun lock someone in it.

Wait Carmilla is fanservice? Isnt that the norm for a female fighting game char. Well atleast she is just looking like that and not wanting Draculas shovel if you know what i mean. That makes her better then every female char in Fallout 2.

Yeah. One misstep I really dislike on Judgment is the treatment to Sypha. Believe me, I prefer her more no-personality attitude in Dracula's Curse and EVEN in the Pachinko Castlevania 3 than this one. I'm just gonna write on my headcanon that she's so utterly humiliated on being captured and petrified by a SECOND STAGE BOSS that she fixed up her personality for the future.
So am I the only one who likes the original Sypha better than Yoko? (Well definitely not this incarnation...)

numbers 14 to 9 are not that bad . Eric want annoying much . sypha was an interesting character. Maria was very lovable and a powerhouse . shanoa is a very memorable character and golem was actulaa very cute to play as

There's a fan theory that the Lecarde clan descends from Alucard & Maria Renard, Lecarde even sounds like a mix of Alucard & Renarde. With that context, the fact that Elizabeth Bartly turned Eric Lecarde's first love into a Vampire feels like a personal attack on her Cousin Alucard! With that theory in mind, maybe his arrogant brat behavior and jealousy of the Whip in Judgement was his inner Dracula showing! Still annoying, but quite the possibility!
