Finally, this very special and important countdown comes to an end. Who are my favorite video game characters of all time? I'd say it's time to find out. LET'S DO THIS.

Not to mention that Zero reappears in MegaMan ZX as a BioMetal, giving you his powers to merge with BioMetal Model X and create the legendary Model ZX. Even from the grave, holy shit, he's always fighting.
He does another sacrifice in ZX Advent for crying out loud, he just keeps fighting for the people he believes in, even if his life is put at risk because of it.

You know, the segments that countdown artists call "cheesy" are the segments I like most. The Darkrai rant, the Talim rant, and now your Zero rant. I love them all.
I'm a newcomer to your channel, and I have to say, I didn't see Zero making your #1 spot. Many people seem to not know of or have forgotten the class S Legendary Maverick Hunter known as Zero, and I must say I am pleasantly surprised! Zero is also my favorite fictional character of all time and I watched your list hoping that you at least felt he deserved a spot, but I admit I lost hope when you hit your top 3 because I've not found a list yet where Zero was in the top 5, so when you announced him as number 1, I was very moved. Thank you for posting your list and I hope to see more excellent content from you!

Quarter Guy, your top 5 was phenomenal. Layton and Luke Fabre are among my favorite characters in gaming as well, and seeing this list I REALLY have to get into the Megaman franchise.
My Top Five Favorite Video Game Characters:
5) Sonic the Hedgehog. This little guy is truly something else! He is the FASTEST THING ALLIIIII-EE-IIVE, and his awesome and truly breathtaking games are among my favorites.
4) Luigi. Where do I even begin? He's an adorable, lovable coward who thinks the world of his big brother. And he has jumping abilities that surpass Mario's! I always play as him, given the choice between Mario and him.
3) Scout. He is one of the most entertaining characters I have ever seen! The boy from Boston is a absolutely hilarious, providing commentary that could make anyone smile! Plus he's my favorite class in TF2.
2) Hershel Layton. All of the reasons you said about him, and then add that he's oddly attractive to me (Damn you English accents) AND the fact that his theme music is absolutely great!
1) Link. Incredible. Ever since his debut in the 80's, Link is a gaming icon that ANYONE can recognize. And he has taken me through the most amazing games I could only dream of! Twilight Princess? An amazing plot with a grim atmosphere. Majora's Mask? It's even better than Ocarina of Time! Wind Waker? MY MOST FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME! Most people think he's a bland canvas, but I truly respect him as a human being. He's actually a pretty deep character if you think about it, ESPECIALLY in Wind Waker. The game made the quest a very personal problem. You're not just saving the world! YOU'RE OUT THERE KICKING ASS FOR YOUR OWN GODDAMN FAMILY. PUTTING YOURSELF IN SO MUCH DANGER JUST SO YOU CAN BRING YOUR PRECIOUS LITTLE SISTER BACK HOME SAFE. And he even takes time out of his busy schedule to help others with things like playing hide-and-seek with children, to collecting bugs for a little girl, to even showing a kid how to jump from rock to rock! His courageous heart and adventures, put together, make Link my favorite video game character ever.

10. Kyo Kusanagi. Whoa. Never expected him. Makes since. Him going up against Rugal is always fun.
9. Hades is kinda entertaining, and using Performapal Hippo, nice touch. Cameo power. Surprised you didn't use Pit, Palutena, Phosphora or Viridi for this spot. Speaking of Hades, how did you get him to cameo?
8. Oh my balls, Mario and Luigi. This is awesome! M and L, I thank you for saving us all.
7. Cecil Harvey? Okay, the Anti-Bartandalus. He's awesome.
6. Of course it's Link. And why not? He's as legendary as Mario and Luigi.
5. Luke Fon Fabre. That's two Yuri Lowenthal characters. Me, I prefer Milla Maxwell. Hmmm... idea for a list that has been done to death... Top 50 Tales of Characters.
4. Professor Layton. Tree's Apprentice would be proud. all the stuff he's been thorough and good stories and puzzles. Can't wait for him to face off against Phoenix Wright.
3. Taking the bronze medal was your pick for Smash 4, Shulk. Totally awesome and super rad.
2. Quarter Guy gives the Silver medal to none other than Ragna the Bloodedge the most awesome hero ever. Me, I prefer Platinum the Trinity. Two words: Laura, Bailey.
1. And now the moment you've all been waiting for, the gold medal and title of Quarter Guy's most favorite video game character of all time is... ZERO FROM THE MEGA MAN X SERIES! Kinda forgot about Zero.exe and Biometal Model Z though. And you forgot that Zero was playable in X3, was brought back in X6, served as a mentor to Axl in X7 and is the object of affection of Layer in X8. He was also an RPG character and has a second hyper form that utilizes his hands, or claws. In Zero 2 he serves as a soldier for a resistance group and took down a leader corrupted by power. Zero's influence was later reincarnated as Biometal Model Z which was entrusted to Gio and later Vent/Aile. As for Zero.Exe, he was a virus and a powerful one at that. Upon finding some mystery data, and with some help from Dr. Hikari, Zero.exe eventually became a netnavi and helped take down the Professor. Zero is great, no matter the form.
All and all, great list.
Next up, Vampires.

Zero is my all time favorite Video Game Character! I love playing as Zero because Zero is so badass and AWESOME!! There is not a single character that can replace Zero! Zero is my #1 All time favorite Video Game Character! Zero kicks ass!
And the tearjerking story of Zero. No one else can take No. 1. Not even Link or X.

Your explanation of Zero was unbelievable. I teared up. I'm a huge Megaman fan, and Zero is the reason why I want a Megaman X prequel made. I want to know more about Zero so badly, because he is THAT intriguing. Thank you for putting it so spot on.

9. You said it, one HELL of a character. Also, one of the only exceptions when I prefer the villain over the protagonists.
8. Indeed, these guys are... inseparable. It was really cool to see BOTH on the list, rather than saying "Luigi is better".
7. The only genuinely interesting character in FF IMO. And the fact that he's voiced by my favorite voice actor has nothing to do with it! (okaymaybealittle)

5. YUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS The best Tales character by a landslide IMO. Followed by Raven, Jude, Yuri and Arche, just to name a few.
4. And again. YUSSSSSSSSSSS I admit, I much prefer *the attorney* over him, but this guy, *this guy*, he reminds of a puzzle.
3. Few months ago, I would have probably said: "Xenoblade. Nah, next!" But after playing (and with playing I mean watching Let's Play of it :P) Xenoblade, I wholeheartedly agree.
2. Yes, Ragna is an ultimate badasser. I wouldn't be lying if I said he was the only reason I want to play BlazBlue.

Bayonetta, Kirby, Metroid, Shantae, Wonderful 101, Mario, Zelda, Xenoblade, Layton, Kingdom Hearts and Ace Attorney! We seem to have the same taste for video games, mr. Quarter Guy. And what a countdown! Well written, articulated, personal and an exellent use of music. Well done!

Todd Haberkorn voiced Link for Zeldamotion, (fan animation based on the Link to the Past manga) he gave the hero justice.
My experience with Luke from ToA can pretty much be summed up as this:
Beginning - "Someone please punch him in the face, I can barely stand him."
Akzeriuth - "Okay, I know what I said, but this is a bit much."
Mid-game - "Why does the whole world seem so hell bent on tearing Luke's mind and self esteem into tiny little pieces? Poor kid."
Tower of Rem - **cries**
Ending & epilogue - **cries a lot**

6. Link gave me a reason to own a Super NES to play LTTP and I hope I can own a Wii U to play Hyrule Warriors and The New Zelda game.

Hey QG, if you read this, first off thanks for making this list, it was really fun to watch so thanks. Second, know that you might have unintentionally referenced another RUclips user. On the number one spot were you said "I digress", I don't know if you know about this guy, but you referenced ClementJ642. If you knew you were doing that, props, if you didn't you should check him out. Also anyone else who are somehow reading this go check out Clement's stuff. He's a major mega man guy and one hell of a Sonic fan. If you haven't seen his work check it out, if you have sorry I wasted your time, great list, and see you when your next project comes in.
For a finally you did a WONDERFUL job and well I am going to say this. Quater Guy pulled a Fawful's Darkrai on us. Nah I am just playing around but yeah #1 is well deserved.

The reason why Terumi was OP was because he could memorize the different time loops. He had resources, and used them to their full potential. Once you take that away, it becomes clear that when it comes to improvising and dealing with the unexpected, he's downright inept.

I knew your mascot character would be number two. My mascot character (Dark Matter) isn't even my favorite video game character. Lol and just when I realized that there weren't any Megaman characters through your entire list, I knew one of them would be number one. And I knew it would be Zero. And no not Zero the leader of the Dark Matter!
QG, I can DEFINITELY feel your sincerity in all three parts of this countdown. Not gonna lie, Zero's my overall favorite Mega Man character. He's also super fun to play as in the Vs. Series. Also you have to give Bosch some credit, he DEFINITELY knows how to play Zero.

X and Zero are my favorite characters and it's a wonderful countdown, QG.
Zero and X, the two heroes that define the never give up and never surrender mentality. They after all are the longest living characters in the Mega Man franchise. If not the majority of gaming. Zero and X played a huge role in the events of even the ZX series, as they are Model Z and Model X respectively, the source of Aile's power, and what pushed her to save the world.

That was a helluva list ***** impressive list and I agree with you fully on your statement about a character and their personality and actions. It's amazing and ironic isn't it?
Even I see Zero as a badass, he has every right to be number one on this list. That speech that Zero said at the end of Mega Man Zero 4 was very emotional, as well as making the ultimate sacrifice, defeating Dr. Wile. You really made an excellent choice picking Zero, Quarter Guy.
Mario actually did take part in a "first person shooter."
Two words, "Yoshi's Safari." It's where the Super Scope came from in Super Smash Bros.
My Favoirite character in gaming is Squall Leonhart from FF8....and you called him broody, oh well,that's how he actually is! lol
in your opinion, ffvi to me got impossible at some points, I hate that octopus boss.
I love him, too. Mostly because he acts like a seventeen year old actually would act (and considering his line of work and how young he is, it's a wonder he didn't become a whiny, paranoid basket-case, video game logic not withstanding), and though he does try his best to handle all the huge responsibilities he never asked for that keep piling onto his back throughout the game and is a much better leader than he likes to think he is, all he wants is just to be a regular guy, and most of his problems (outside saving the world and his girlfriend being the most powerful mage on the planet and people want to shoot her into space in case her power drives her mad) are normal ones, and anything super-tragic about his backstory is stuff he doesn't remember, so he never pity-parties over it, and overall, he feels like one of the most real characters written in the FF series. Not to mention he has some great character development (that blends seamlessly into his blooming romance with Rinoa), and, one of my favorite parts about him, HE'S A HUGE ADORABLE DORK AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HIM FOR IT.
He's also less broody than his predecessor, actually. Then again, Cloud is the edge master...but still (even better is that he says on Disc 3 that he actually pretends to be broody because he's scared of people and he knows that kind of behavior stops people from pursuing him). Not to mention, the one thing that solidified him as one of my favorite protagonists in gaming (as well as helped solidify FFVIII as my favorite game as of now) is the speech he gives the mayor of Fisherman's Horizon after he saves him from Galbadian troops. It's beautiful, it answers so many arguments that people have in this day and age over the subject of war and the soldiers that fight in them, and it really shows that he's not just "some angsty teenager", but a young man with quite a lot of wisdom and compassion under that tough exterior. Overall, he's another example of how not to go by first impressions, because, at least in my humble opinion, he's a great guy when push comes to shove.
...And there's also how he's a total force of nature in battle (his limit breaks are perfect evidence of that), and as cool as that is, I more or less like him for his character. X3
With that theme alone, you can tell that Zero is the personification of badass.
And Layton's mates with Mark Evans too from Inazuna Eleven, what's not to love?

10: I can tell that this guy is awesome, All I can say is that it's good he's on are side. (Okomi was an awesome game, it's not a problem that it keeps going back to it)
9: I know that this series hasn't seen a game for years, but I got this new one for one reason and it's this guy. You know your hilarious when the 4th wall is sewing you billions. (Now if only he was a boss in Smash 4)
8: These guys are heroes of not one series of games, but all games. (I can't believe the vanish cap stage made me hate these guy's games for my child hood. (Thank you for getting me out from that rock Mario Kart DS and Super Mario Galaxy))
7: If there is one rpg character that makes character development a major key part of the plot, it's this guy (I love how he changes from a physical offence class to a magic class to atone for his sins)
6: I have known of the awesome adventurers Link and Zelda took me on for as long as I can remember. (Is it wrong that my favorite Link is the Skyward Sword Link, but My favorite Zelda is the Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass Zelda)
5: Me and My family love the Tales series a TON (I skipped this entry because we haven't had the time (or equipment) to play it that much until recently and we haven't beaten it yet. I don't want a game this good ruined)
4: I know a gentleman when I see one, and this good sir sets the bar and passes it. (I do know of these games by the way, I am at chapter 2 of the Diabolical box right now, but I'm not stopping there)
3: I am not finished with this game yet, but I love this great game and I will beat it when I get the chase (I have played him in smash 4 and I was comfortable playing as him right off the bat)
2: I can tell this guy is a mixed bag, He is a good guy with a child hood back story a great villein could have and has the will power to get the job done when it counts. (He even fought two of the most evil people in gaming)
1: I don't know what to say about this great hero, He sacrificed himself for what he believed in and even brought the dream of his's creator's nemeses to fruition. It hurts knowing he's gone forever :'( (I can't explain the pain I feel at all)
Zero and Ranga considered to be my favorite characters, but Zero gave me impact to try out the new genre when I actually see him as a "true" hero. His words and actions brings something in my heart when I played his games. I loved him as a character, but he is the one who got me inspired to play Megaman X series for the first time and I considered him as a favorite. His actions and attitude have left something more in my heart when I think Dr. Light seemed to have his dream now where Robots and humans are able to live in peace now.
Ragna considered to be a character that I still like when Blazblue was introduced to me when I bought it on the 3ds. It makes me cry when I think about it when I like playing as him except his backstory and character brings something more than this. Every character you introduced into the series on the top 30, I wanted to play the games so badly. I should have thank you for getting me inspired by this. Not to mention the Wonderful 101 series, I hated at first, but it's not a bad game when I began to love every moment of it. Thank you Quarter Guy for the inspiration and not to mention thank you for allowing us to see Shovel Knight when I am able to play it on my 3DS now. Thank you!
You plan on making a top ten characters you want to return to a series? I'd love to see that (BTW my top character that i would want to see return to any series is Emerl in Sonic Battle)

I think of Ragna's appearance as inspired by Dante and Sol Badguy.
It's possible. I mean, when you think about it, pretty much all of the characters are heavily inspired by other anime and video game characters. Hazama has the face and peronality of Gin Ichimaru. (Bleach, Soul Society Arc-era) Noel's guns resemble those of Beyond The Grave. (Gungrave) A couple of the characters have names that're references to Hellsing. Kokonoe and Amane Nishiki are based on two characters from Highschool Of The Dead. Azrael resembles Wolfgang Krauser. And so on and so forth.
You know, now that I think of it, the whole roster is like an otaku's wet dream.

What I like most about #5, is that he feels like a real person. At first, you may be annoyed by him, but then you realise why he's so flippant and you feel sorry for the guy.
Though I saw it coming, when number 1 was shown I honestly cheered. My God...what a great character.
I could not see this #1 coming even if it took a beam sabre to my face!
Is it me or did that victory music at the end of entry 10 sound a bit like the music that plays at the end of the levels in the original Contra.

5. I've only played Symphonia and I love it. I got Xilia now (and will play it. Saving it for last since it's a game I've been waiting to play. Just trying to finish a few other games first). Oh yeah that kind of char transformation is awesome. Out of the chars in Symphonia, it is Kratos because of how complicated he is.
4. I don't know why I haven't played any of his games yet since I tend to like mystery games. Hell, one of the first games (it was a computer game) I ever played was Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego.

Watching this again, I take two major issues with the #8.
A) You spent almost the entirety of the segment talking about their historical significance rather than elements of their actual characters (to your credit though, you did talk about their brotherly dynamic in the M&L RPGs). That wouldn't be a big deal if not for the fact that the whole saved-the-industry cred can (and should) be attributed to the game and the company as opposed to the characters. You could just as easily credit Bowser, Peach, and Toad with saving the industry because they were also characters in Super Mario Bros. I would argue that Bowser deserves the spot more because he's really entertaining.
B) This segment was absolutely *dripping* with emotional manipulation. Outright demanding that your viewers be thankful for the characters because of something that they didn't really accomplish as characters... claiming that others' opinions on them straight up do not matter because it's apparently a *fact* that they alone saved the industry (despite... well, see letter A)... not okay.
I guess this is a byproduct of your consistent improvement. Your older stuff gets progressively worse by comparison and a bit harder to watch.
Except the Bowser battles list. That video is dope.
