Fun Fact: this is the only parody where the original artists suggested the subject matter for the parody and he actually liked it enough to make it.
Fun Fact: Madonna wasn't the original composer of Like A Virgin.
@@vasky22 I thought James Brown made Living in America?
Fun Fact: Weird Al had an affair with Madonna
" Dr Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr Howard"
That's an old Three Stooges skit!
@Ric Mark I'll be seeing him in LA in August. Can't wait. Even his "no parodies, no costumes" tour last year was awesome.
That had me giggling like a bitch from the jump. 🤘
Dr Moe Howard , Dr Larry fine , Dr Shemp Howard
@Shockwave33 - In that instance, it was Dr. Curly Howard, instead of Shemp. ;)
@@0okamino oh right Shemp was never a Doctor. Thanks. Been a few years.
I've seen Al 4 times Live. Not only does he do the dance, he changes costumes for EACH of his parodies like this. He is a master entertainer.
Alfred has it right: 'Trapped in the Drive-Thru' is a masterpiece that needs to be seen to be believed.
Yeah, I've seen him 9 times (though he hasn't done Like A Surgeon in FOREVER). My coworker loved it when he did I'll Sue Ya since that was the closest he thought he'd ever get to actually seeing RATM in concert :)
He absolutely does! He's very high energy even in 2016!
Yup. The best concert. Pics weren't enough to give it justice. I had to take video.
You have to see him live. It's really entertaining.
Madonna actually came up with the song and asked him to do it. There's an interview with weird Al telling the story
She just came up with the idea. The story goes that she walking down the street, talking to a friend of hers, and said "I wonder when Weird Al's gonna do Like Surgeon?" Word got back to Al, and he said "Maybe I will," and the rest is history!
@@pattibrown8496 Weird Al be like: "Hold my beer".
Al later said she wasn't really into it. Mo was pretty pissey at first. She put on a game face to the camera!
She's in the videi
@@bkurtz8770 I think that’s just someone pretending to be her.
"I can hear your heartbeat... for the very last time"
🤣🤣🤣
As someone who's worked with & for doctors, I can appreciate this. Yep.
I believe it!!! A lot of the doctors I see now don't seem to have a clue what they're doing.
@mark tamayo Idiotic comment. Take off your 'MAGA' hat.
We medical types do often have a secret sense of humor about our work. As a nurse, who used to be an EMT, I can tell you that CPR dummies and other medical things are often fetured in gags we play on each other.
Weird Al deserves every accolade he gets. Nobody does it better.
What often gets overlooked is his band. This band has been together since the early eighties and has performed EVERY music style in existence. They are tight and professional and one of the best bands EVER,
Huge respect for:
Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz on Drums
Jim "Kimo" West on Guitar
Steve Jay on Bass
They don't get enough love.
Peace
When I saw them live in 1999, they did this song and the keyboardist was wearing a huge cone bra like madonna used to, and then Weird Al busted out with a chainsaw and cut them off mid-song. Best show ever. Every song performance was crazy like that.
It’s kinda funny Madonna actually helped with writing and developing this song. One of the few the artist actually helped with the parody of their songs. Should check out the saga begins, yoda, I lost on jeopardy. A few other good ones. By him
In fact, Al doesn't take requests. This was the only time he did, because a mutual friend let him know that Madonna asked "when is he going to make Like a Surgeon?" and he liked the idea enough to run with it.
No she didn't. JFC
"I can feel your heartbeat for the very last time." Al. Genius.
I've been in the operation room soo many times... Next time I'm on the table, I'm going to sing this song as I get rolled into the operating room. Hope it sticks with my surgeons throughout the operation.
React to Weird Al's "The Saga Begins" ONLY AFTER you listen to "American Pie" by Don Mclean, the original song
Please I want saga begins!
Yes please ! The Saga Begins is amazing. Al really shows he can sing in that.
Oh hell yes, please! It's super good, I promise. Legit!
And Don McLean has admitted that during his performances live with American Pie he accidentally sings the song with Weird Al’s lyrics.
Agreed
You'd love a Weird Al concert. A lot of costumes, songs, dances. Very Weird Al and fun for the whole family
Oh that's awesome, I'd love to take my kids, but wasn't sure if it would be PG. They love his music
yes he does dance and do a lot of gags on stage during his live shows. I have seen him live 3 times and each one is different experience and all great shows.
Weird al for superbowl halftime show
HELL YES 100%
I can get behind that.
He has said he would do it if asked, but he doesn't think he will ever be invited to do it
I was at one of his concerts in 2010, July, here in Vegas. The temperatures were so hot, they destroyed some of the tech equipment for the stage. Weird Al and his crew still did the 3 + hour concert into the cool of the night without much on special effects. They were true entertainers through and through.
The beginning of the video was a nod to the Three Stooges, with the Dr Fine, Dr Howard bit! Great vid
Went completely over his head. As well as the football player in the doctor huddle.
Further trivia, Fine & Howard were the Stooge's real last names, two of them being brothers.
@@xheralt Actually, Moe, Curly and Shemp were brothers
Do "LIVING WITH A HERNIA"! You MUST see Weird Al doing a parody of James Brown's classic!
You really need to do one of his polkas. Where he does the REAL lyrics, but to a polka.
No one is safe from Al.
Handy by weird al is definitely worth a listen lol
YASSSSS, I don't know what the parody is, but its hilarious
@@shashankiyer5751 "Fancy"
Funny every time Weird Al has any kind of success they call it a comeback that is not a come back that's a golden career.... If any "regular" artist had half his Awards and accolades they would be considered a superstar!
And now he has a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame. 👍
"Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard" in the beginning of the song is from an episode of 'THE THREE STOOGES '....... .🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣🤩
At the beginning you hear them paging Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard. That was the Three Stooges.
Another great reaction video. I love seeing someone experience Weird Al "FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!!" 😆😆😆 I know I've said this before but please watch the video for "You Don't Love Me Anymore" it's priceless.
"I can hear your heart beat for the very last time..." lol
One of the BEST live concerts i ever went to. His band musically plays so tight and it's the same band he has since he started ! ! And yes he uses props the entire show.
He does dress up in hes live shows. The idea for this sing was from madonna. Please react to trapped in the drive Thu
Trapped in the drive-thru would be great! Completely remasters the R Kelly tune
@@MrMurdock86 I think we need to bury anything with R. Kelly.
Thankfully he did it anyway
I've been to at least six Weird Al concerts and he does a ton of stuff with costumes and props on stage. It's super entertaining!
There's an old joke:
Q: What do you call a doctor who graduated last in their class?
A: Doctor
Wut?
@@TheMemeSchemer They still graduated, so they're still called Doctor, lol. Took me a minute to get it
LOL I like that XD
What's the easiest way to legitimately earn the title "Doctor" ? Figure out what field is easiest for you and earn that PhD.
There's a corollary to that - what do you call someone who graduated last from law school? Senator.
Weird Al's "Perform This Way" please! 😀
In addition to "Perform This Way" ( ruclips.net/video/ss_BmTGv43M/видео.html ), you might also be interested in this video which shows side by side how it was created (before and after CGI etc): ruclips.net/video/lo45pBJdcUM/видео.html . They're both pretty short, under 3 minutes.
Aaaaaaand here he is performing the song live in Toronto, a few years ago 😂: ruclips.net/video/x-ba5exjz5U/видео.html
I love there's even a lion like in original Madonna video.
I just saw him in concert last Friday in Irving, TX. He and his band dress up exactly like the videos and put on one hell of a show. He even rolled onstage riding a Segway to begin White and Nerdy!!
He does break out the costumes, but only for a handful of songs: Amish Paradise, Smells Like Nirvana, Fat, White & Nerdy. During the costume changes, there would be hilarious videos, including him doing supposed interviews with celebrities such as Eminem, Celine Dion, Keith Richards, and many many more.
In the past, he did a stripped down version of Like a Surgeon, similar to what Madonna did during her 1990 tour. Last time around it was part of an accoustic medley.
The last couple of tours have been different however. Last year, he did a sit-down tour with no costumes and hardly any parodies. This gave him the chance to go deep into his albums for more original songs than ever, with a completely different set every night. This year he is touring with an orchestra, and I'll be seeing him next week.
My mom LOVES Weird Al. I took her to see him in Valdosta. My cheeks hurt for days. He does change for every song. During Amish Paradise, all of the lights went off, he came out dressed like he was in the video and had a bunch of back up singers holding candles.
I saw him live once. It was awesome! My favorite part was his parody of Jimi Hendrix setting his guitar on fire on the stage. Instead Weird Al was on his knees setting his accordion on fire.🔥 Hilarious!
It's true, Al does change costumes inbetween songs. For this song performed live (in the 90s), Al wore scrubs just like in the video while his keyboard player Ruben Valtiera wore a cone bra and did seductive arm and hand motions to the music.
Fun fact: that's actually Madonna making a cameo appearance in the video.
You've gotta go back to his first album (1983) and check out, I Love Rocky Road.
I’ve seen him live 3 times and i gotta admit, he puts on a great show. He changes outfits in between almost every song & while he’s doing that, they’ll have funny little videos and mock “interviews” he’s done, with Ozzy Osbourne, for example. The audience was never bored & he even came out into the audience during a couple songs & walked down the aisles to cheering fans. Pretty cool.
There are several Weird Al concert videos on RUclips, and yes, he does most of the shenanigans that you see in the videos onstage. Musician, songwriter, singer, dancer, actor (live and voice), producer, creative genius... Al Yankovic is a national treasure.
One more minute by weird al. Love to see you react to that one!
You have to check out party in the CIA it's hilarious
I agree that "Party in the CIA" is worth a listen It is funny
Weird Al's live show is not a concert, it's a SHOW!! Every song there is an act for it... it's hilarious... It will have you in stitches.
This is a parody of *Madonna's Like A Virgin* hit. His dance moves are exactly like what Madonna did in her video of *Like A Virgin.*
I did saw "Weird Al" in concert (Alapalooza tour). He played this song. He just wore a surgeon outfit while dancing like Madonna. He also wears that Fat suit too for *Fat.*
Al has an excellent band. His drummer has been with Al from the start. When the drum set was just Al's accordion case on his first parody *Another One Rides the Bus.* Which is a parody of *Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust".*
Loving these brother!!💃🕴💃
Plenty more to see .."My Bologna...Another one rides the bus..."😂😂😂😂
Keep em coming TMG!!👍👍
One of my favorites is "WORD CRIMES' by Weird Al
Dude your laugh gets me every time especially when he put that gas to his own face 😂😂
One More Minute by Weird Al was always one of my favorites.
Awesome reaction video! Got a chuckle when you paused it on Madonna's appearance in the video too. Glad she indirectly suggested this to him.
Not her
Please do "I Perform this Way". It's hysterical.
That's a great song especially at the end when the yells "I feel bad!" and falls over.
@@allisonjae3152 Hey, are you talking about Perform This Way or Living With A Hernia?
No worries Lamar lol...only 1 star facilities have a blow torch in the OR :P lmfao. This is another favorite of mine!!!
So, my doctor not surgeon but doctor lol has pulled up Google many times while I was in the office😂Then at the end of my appointments he's like I know already you're gonna do your own research but imma give you a copy anyways😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
My doctor Googled pictures of neck and groin discolorations caused by diabetes and showed them to me. Some of the pictures actually had guy's dicks in them. I didn't think much about it in the office, but I'm a woman and after I left, I wondered how well that would go down with other female patients.
I believe most artists would consider it a great honor to have their song parodied by the indomitable Weird Al Yankovic. 👑
How have I missed this …… oh well catching up now. Crying from laughing so hard 😢🥹😅😀😂
Always loved the Three Stooges reference...
And Madonna's cameo was priceless.
Not her
You’d be surprised how often doctors look up a procedure to review before they do it, even if they’ve done it before. It might make you lose a little faith in doctors, but I’d rather my doctor review a procedure rather than assuming they remember it and just going for it.
I used to work with this surgeon who was a huge Weird Al fan and was always playing his songs in the OR. He actually got to go see him live a few years back and got him to sign his original vinyl of “Like a Surgeon.”
Side note-As an OR nurse this video is hilarious but makes me want to scream at the same time. At least it’s not like Grey’s Anatomy where it’s taking itself seriously while it does everything so horribly wrong. 😂😂
The brilliance of this video is that it parodies not only Madonna's video for Like A Virgin, but also Lucky Star and Burnin' Up.
I was really little when this video came out. It's amazing that Weird Al is still doing this stuff and he's still consistently so funny. The guy must really love what he does.
Another shout out to my mom (RIP). She was a dedicated maternity nurse (RN) and always enjoyed this song when I played it.
His concerts were hilarious. Costumes and sets.
Showing Madonna as a character was hilarious.
Paused right on Madonna's cameo and didn't even recognize her lol broooo
I know right?
Ain't her
Yes. He's all over the stage. He's awesome. A buddy of mine and I went and we knew all of his songs by heart. So we sang along loudly with him. We were so loud that many of the crowd were looking at us, and they actually shown the spot light on us. It was hilarious as most of the people there didn't know the words like we did.
Yes, he is very crazy on stage. You should see some of his on stage performances. He doesn't include everything, but he does plenty.
Madonna had his full blessing making this, and even makes an appearance in his Lady Gaga "Born this way" parady
His concerts are awesome! Talented, Smart, Funny, He has it all!
As others have mentioned, Al does costume changes, skits, and loads more in his shows. He even used to set his Accordion on Fire while playing it. Most impressive is his Fat performances, as he bounces around in his Fat Suit.
For my birthday, the boss and our 4 kids bought tickets for a Weird Al concert. We all went and it was epic. Within the limits of the stage, he went all out, creating the the environment.
Dude, living with a hernia almost killed me. I had a hernia and had a few week before surgery when I saw that video. The pain was so bad but I could not stop laughing.
Talking about reading up just before an operation, it has been done by a guy who wasn't a doctor. He's known as the Great Impostor. He had a photographic memory and was impersonating a Canadian Naval doctor. 6 sailors were brought in badly injured one day. He had the nurses prep them as he was in the back speed reading on how to do the operations. He preformed them perfectly and all 6 survived. He got a medal and was caught when the real doctor's mother read the story in a newspaper then asked her son about it. The Canadian Military kicked him out but didn't charge him out of gratitude for the 6 sailors.
I saw him live approx 2008. He comes on stage in the costume of each video. The concert was sold out and my kids physically hurt from laughing
LOL, his ‘dance’ moves toward the end are trying to mimic Madonna’s in Like a Virgin😆😂
When he does his live shows, he does costume changes. He's on tour right now so you should grab a ticket if you can! Also, you can see some of his performances live on RUclips here! Love these videos, keep them coming!!
He does dance like this, and dresses in Hospital Scrubs for this song, and he also dons the fat suit for performing Fat. His live shows are AWESOME.
You know there has to be a doctor out there like that, last in their class and just barely scrapped by.
Yes, Al 100% does wacky stuff like this in concert. After Madonna's TRUTH OR DARE movie and tour came out, he did a Truth or Dare version on Like a Surgeon live...with a giant bed on it that he danced around on...in full doctor's scrubs. And a chainsaw.
He came to Turlock, Ca a few years ago and yes every song he did he would have different sets and clothing for it. BOSS!
The opening moment when they call out, "Dr. Howard,Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard" is from an old Three Stooges skit, where the stooges are dressed up as doctors.
I heard this joke....
What do you call someone who graduated last in their medical class?
A doctor.
Yo man...at the beginning you hear them call for “Dr Howard, Dr Fine, Dr Howard” that’s from the 3 Stooges...old school!
Fun facts, the orthopedic surgeon uses drills, saws, hammers, chisels and other construction tools to replace/repair bones and joints. Also, super glue comes into play. From an old ortho/neuro nurse.
I have been to a live show of his. He does wear the costumes and puts on an excellent show. One of the best concerts I've ever been too.
I've been to a couple of his shows, he's constantly changing costumes for all his songs, along with funny videos playing between sets! I'm going to his newest concert in 2 days! =D
Right before he enters the room at the beginning, the person on the intercom calls for "Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard." This is an Easter egg and a damned funny one at that.
Been to his concert got an autograph on the ticket! OMG!!! Yes!!! He absolutely acts out every song he does live!!!
You should react to The saga begins! My favorite of all time!!!
They really do bring books in sometimes and have the nurse refresh info as they're operating if it's not a surgery they do often! 😂 I saw a rep from a company once, who was just a salesman, verbally talk a doctor through a surgery step by step.
Yes he dresses up for every song like on videos! He came to Turlock, CA and he fucking rocked it!
I've seen weird al live before years ago like back in 2007, he does dress up when performing like the Fat song he actually gets into a fat costume and does the song it was hilarious and great! I got his autograph as well after that show he is so nice and funny. He will always be my childhood gem hahaha
Yes, he does! His shows are always hysterical! 😆
It is based on Madonna's "Like a Virgin" video and Weird Al's video plays off on it a lot. "Dr. Ross" used to make dog food. Their jingle was"Dr Ross dog food is dog gone good, woof."
I have seen "Weird Al" Yankovic perform 13 different times. Every time he came to my town, I was working the sound booth at our local amphitheater, so I've had the honor of meeting him numerous times. When he does a live show, he is just as lively and active as he is in his videos. He's dancing on stage, running through the audience, climbing over people, picking on people, everything! His live shows are everything you want them to be, and so much more!
5:30
Most doctors do spend time before and during some surgeries researching the surgery they're going to do.
That's probably a good thing.
The key difference being that for them, it's a memory refresher. They've studied the procedure extensively, and in most cases performed it several times, and by the last minute all they're looking up is some of the potential complications and solutions so it'll be fresh in their minds in the unlikely event something does go wrong. Whereas Al's character is giving an impression of "I read about this once, looked at a diagram, I think I can probably do this. I hope." Lol
His live shows used to be crazy but he would mainly just do dress ups and funny dances. Lately, he’s been doing just the music, which is fine. I love his music.
When I took emergency first aid 30 years ago we were told not to use a precordial thump anymore because it could cause more damage than it was worth.
Fun Fact: This is the only known song where an artist asked Weird Al to parody their work.
There is a saying, you haven't hit it big till Weird Al Parodies you... Madonna is the exception. She asked for it and got one of the best parodies in Weird Al History. She noticed Talent and jumped on that train.
I have seen 7 of his last 8 tours and in the last one we saw (Mandatory Fun Tour) he had 18 costume changes. The previous one was 19 changes. A great show from beginning to end.
He goes all out for his live shows. Dresses up for each song, plays the videos in the background, its awesome. I just saw him a week ago in Dallas. Dude has a tour going on now with a full orchestra in the background
The last time I saw Weird Al, he dressed up like Devo from the Whip It video for Dare to be Stupid, he dressed up like a jedi in The Saga Begins, and for the finale he donned the fat suit for Fat. You should definitely go see him, you need to see this treasure before he decides to retire.
This is actually the only parody where the title was suggested by the artist. Madonna came up with like a surgeon for her song like a Virgin. You should watch the video because the lion is in her video and a lot of the moves he makes was in there too. He is so funny! You're cheering me up tonight!
Went to his concert once in middle school (around the time Poodle Hat came out) and he did constant costume changes throughout
I was around 4 or 5 when Weird Al was on Hollywood Squares, and they showed this music video. I was so scared of it; it was like a horror movie to me at the time lol
I've been to several Weird Al concerts, I even took my youngest brother to his first Weird Al concert. Yes, he pulls out ALL the stops. Weird Al and his band do costume changes and stage set changes for EVERY song. The man is quite the performer and showman. If you EVER have the opportunity to see him live, DO IT! You will NOT be disapointed. I PROMISE you that.)
He does dances, he changes costumes based on songs, he does little extra things with some of his songs, like in his new foil he has a small table for part of the song, but it's not a full on thing.
