What the f*** is the man doing in the back? He's making the dream come to life. That's what he is doing. John Schwartz has been with Weird Al since day one, and still works with him.
Weird Al was attending school to become an architect.Thank goodness he decided to follow his own path and started doing parodies very early on.What would this world be without such an awesome performer?!😮Dude is the best.😁
Bermuda Schwartz is a key part of Weird Al's career. A Weird Al concert works well, because he'll be in, say full Amish Paradise costume. They play the song, then for like a minute Schwartz will have some zany drum break after the song and BAM! Al is back in full "I'm Fat" costume and the next song starts. He is a great concert.
The story is he went to play this song on the radio show and john Swartz said he would play percussion but did not have drums so all told him to use his accordion case. That's the abridged version
One of the best lines he's ever written. For those that may not know the backstory, around this time, The Who had a concert in Cincinnati, where due to the venue opening the doors late, the crowd stormed the arena when they heard a sound check, thinking the were missing the show. This caused a stampede, killing 11 people and injuring 26 others.
If you've ever ridden public transit going to work or going to an appointment , early in the morning. This song makes perfect sense, for the simple reason it actually can get that nuts. There is a scary amount of logic in the lyrics of this song and how it's done
I’m a little bit older, but there was a radio show called “Dr Demento” where it was all parody and comedy songs. Weird Al was a gold standard even back then, but that whole show was unique to it’s time. Takes me back for sure...thx.

His drummer, John “Bermuda” Schwartz has been with him since the beginning I think video really helped him out because of the way he recreates the videos just like he recreates the songs
He actually worked in that college radio station. He just couldn't get permission to use it to record his song. He decided to record it in the bathroom because it had decent acoustics that met his needs.
I remember hearing this on Dr. Demento back in my childhood. My sister and I just sat there for a moment in utter shock and disgust until we started listening to the lyrics. Then we just lost it. I can remember watching this performance when it first aired and really not knowing what to make of Weird Al standing there Parodying one of the biggest bands of the day with bare feet and a horrible sounding instrument. In the end it was always the wit and hilarity of his lyrics that won people over. I can recall having to take the bus to work when my car broke down and all I could think as I sat on those buses watching the next weirdo get on was.. "HEY! he's gonna sit by YOU!! 🤣🤣🤣
one of his original influences was Spike Jones who was the Father of Parody songs (followed later by Stan Freeberg). Spike had a whole band that used these kinds of sound effects and strange voices. They made many successful "party" albums. I saw this episode with Tom Snyder. Boy this takes me back, because Tom was an excellent interviewer and his interviews of John Lennon and Alfred Hitchcock are considered the classics in interviews.
John Schwartz (the guy playing the horns and stuff behind weird al) is a musical genious :) I don't care what anyone says. you can like what ever band you like, but Weird Al's band members are the most talented musicians on the planet, they can play every song ever written, simply because its required of them. almost no other musician can say that.

John "Bermuda" Schwartz told him after this that he should form a band and he is still Al's drummer. You are 100% right in that Al shows people what can be done. Al is also a stand up guy because he asked Paul McCartney for permission to make Live and Let Die into Chicken Pot Pie. Paul objected being a strict vegetarian and Al to his credit bowed to Paul's wishes.
IMO this is hands down the ultimate Weird Al performance ever! The percussionist is John Bermuda Schwartz still Al’s drummer to this day and the main drum is actually Al’s accordion case! 😂😂❤ enjoyed you big time! Great song/video pick!!!
that is Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz. Al's drummer for 40 years. This was before he had an actually back up band. My Bologna was recorded in the college bathroom. This song was recorded from a live appearance on the Dr Demento show. He wrote the parody while waiting outside the DJ booth. The "box" that Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz is banging on is Al's accordion case! I remember first hearing Weird Al on Dr. Demento's radio show when I was in high school. This song is a parody of Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust." When it was released as a single, the flip side had a song named "Gotta Boogie" which was an original song. I only remember the chorus, "I gotta boogie on my finger and I can't shake it off!" I also remember seeing this episode of "The Tomorrow Show." Yes, I'm old. You need to check out his movie "UHF."
Knew you'd like it. - The box is Al's accordion case. Remember All About the Pentiums? The guy that pops out of the cubicle shouting "What! What!" , same guy playing all that stuff... Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz, Al's drummer from Day One.
Another one Rides The Bus is one of the very first songs that Weird Al did a parody of, along with "My Bologna" ( which I firmly believe should be the next Weird Al parody you should review)
This is Al's FIRST TV appearance. There is no music video for this song. Most of the songs on his first album is Al on accordion (backed with a band). The version of this song on his album is just a live performance too, recorded live on the legendary Dr Demento radio show with Bermuda banging on Al's accordion case.
Yup, that it. That was one of his first, and it was live before an audience, it was his debut, and before anyone really knew who he was Nobody thought then he be so big today. Even the Grammy's don't know what to do about him. But, Weird Al was a huge fan of Spike Jones, who you can see in this song (with all the comical sound fills of bike horns, whistles, etc)
I never really listened to much of Weird Al, so thank you for making these vid's and keeping me laughing!!! LOL You laugh alone, is so contagious, that I almost pee sometimes LOL :)
Your reaction to weird Al is hilarious, I'm a fan of his work too, having listened to his stuff when I was a kid as well as watched his movie UHF. Personally, I have yet to hear a song from him I didn't like.
Of every artist of every genre Weird Al is 1 that's never really gone away and he's made himself by being himself and doing what he enjoys He's definitely 1 of my top musicians I cant wait until you see his epic rap battle lol
I remember my dad coming up to wake me up , telling me I had to see this. It was the "Tomorrow" show with Tom Snyder that aired around 1 am where we lived. My dad was a musician. He also played the accordion and loved the old song parodies by Spike Jones. When he saw Al, he knew this kid was gonna be something big. I still have all my Weird Al records. :)
I grew up with Doctor Demento Show, and this early Weird Al really is what that show was about....the videos really came a lot later in Weird Al's career. Songs like "Making Love in a Subaru" and others are worth searching out.

Next Weird Al reaction should be Bedrock Anthem 4rlz!!
Shawn Horror right on !
Another one Rides The Bus is one of the very first songs that Weird Al did a parody of, along with "My Bologna" ( which I firmly believe should be the next Weird Al parody you should review)
Then I love Rocky road and I love rock and roll
This is Al's FIRST TV appearance. There is no music video for this song. Most of the songs on his first album is Al on accordion (backed with a band). The version of this song on his album is just a live performance too, recorded live on the legendary Dr Demento radio show with Bermuda banging on Al's accordion case.
Yup, that it. That was one of his first, and it was live before an audience, it was his debut, and before anyone really knew who he was
Nobody thought then he be so big today. Even the Grammy's don't know what to do about him. But, Weird Al was a huge fan of Spike Jones, who you can see in this song (with all the comical sound fills of bike horns, whistles, etc)
When Weird Al dies, all the artists should get together and do a concert singing Weird Als versions of their songs.
I never really listened to much of Weird Al, so thank you for making these vid's and keeping me laughing!!! LOL You laugh alone, is so contagious, that I almost pee sometimes LOL :)
This is Al's early year when he was and accordion rock god haha. Yes and Dr. Demento was great KLOS 95.5 fm 9pm to 12am
KLOS? You sure? I remember him on KMET, and then KLSX, but don't remember him ever being on KLOS.
You are right Adam it was the Mighty Met KMET fm 94.7 on Saturday night
Weird Al does some super impressive rapping on Hardware Store...please react to that one!!!!
Your reaction to weird Al is hilarious, I'm a fan of his work too, having listened to his stuff when I was a kid as well as watched his movie UHF. Personally, I have yet to hear a song from him I didn't like.
Loved that movie
@@andreadeamon6419 yeah, it was a good movie.
@@HorrorGenreLady yeah it was. Gonna order the Blu-ray soon. Love a lot of the oldies like that 😊
John has done the vast majority of the percussion for Al, both in studio and during live shows. Stuck together all these years.
One of the first song I ever heard of his like 30 years ago :) and its still awesome! :)
They created a plaque for him to hang outside of that bathroom at school.
Of every artist of every genre Weird Al is 1 that's never really gone away and he's made himself by being himself and doing what he enjoys
He's definitely 1 of my top musicians
I cant wait until you see his epic rap battle lol
I remember my dad coming up to wake me up , telling me I had to see this. It was the "Tomorrow" show with Tom Snyder that aired around 1 am where we lived. My dad was a musician. He also played the accordion and loved the old song parodies by Spike Jones. When he saw Al, he knew this kid was gonna be something big. I still have all my Weird Al records. :)
Cool Dad
@@brendalg4 Yes he was. He's been gone almost 17 years now and I still miss him every day.
It was a state of the art aucstic tile men's bathroom, it wasn't just any old bathroom ok 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 what a genius! 👏👏👏
I grew up with Doctor Demento Show, and this early Weird Al really is what that show was about....the videos really came a lot later in Weird Al's career. Songs like "Making Love in a Subaru" and others are worth searching out.
You should react to "My Bologna".
EDIT: Also, "Skipper Dan", an original song by him.
Skipper Dan is one of my favourite songs. The parodies are great, of course, but so are Weird Al's original compositions.
Skipper Dan is awesome. So is Don't Download That Song.
I bet the people who listened to the radio in that era were lol-ing!
