    Sean,
    I too started bow hunting in the early 80’s. Hunting October Whitetails was about the only thing out on VHS. Back then bow hunters were a very small part of the hunting population as a whole.
    The commercialization of the sport for those who choose to put their eggs in that basket has definitely change the game for some. Stay true to the outdoor experience with respect for the wildlife and you won’t be disappointed.
    Thanks for sharing your opinion, I couldn’t agree more.

    And speaking of "big" deer, what about all the shit the manufacturers are putting in the "feed". You look at old photos of buck poles and you don't see the monstrosities you see today. You didn't see bucks with 20, 30 or 40 or more points with none pointing in the same direction (and people eat these deer). Manufacturers should be compelled to list what's in this shit just as they do on our groceries. Thanks Sean

    Well said Sean. The hunting industry, in my opinion, has ruined hunting. The average person is not going to spend thousands of dollars on a hunting lease, tower stands, Atvs, etc on the latest and greatest things in order to harvest a deer. It’s all about the money. Just like you said. Hopefully hunters will come around and realize that hunting isn’t about all the “flash and glam “. That’s why I really enjoy watching your videos. You do your homework and go into the woods and get the job done. Keep up the good work work.

    Great commentary! So much of true hunting is not well represented in the “industry side”. My uncle taught me much about learning the behavior of the animal, how to scout, moving through the woods, wind, terrain, etc. Much of hunting shows today focus on shooting from the same stand every season near the same feeder, which loses much of the skill and accomplishment of hunting and focuses only on size of the game.
    Finally, so much of hunting is about large game. There are many small game (squirrel, rabbit, etc) hunting opportunities that make hunting very accessible, much easier to learn, with much less preparation and much easier for someone to start there than the more intimidating Deer, hog, elk, etc. Unfortunately, the industry doesn’t focus on getting new hunters in with small game, where much of hunting ethics can be taught to new hunters.

    This is fantastic. Just recently I stopped focusing so much on "killing a monster buck" and instead enjoy my time hunting. I'm usually successful each year in filling the freezer and getting a good buck every now and then. The hunting shows create an unrealistic expectation on hunting. And let's be honest, most of these guys are hunting high fenced ranches.

    Sean this is a great little deal you just did. The word industry , related to hunting is a problem. It is a problem with fishing as well. Respect for the animal has been lost. You see it on the river. They are considered trophies, not food, or an animal that rewards you with so much more then just a trophy. They give you an amazing adrieniline rush , a high, a respect for nature! These things have been lost , and the industry is what is driving the loss of this

    Personally I don’t watch hunting shows on tv as much because most of them hunt with outfitters, so you know that there chances of shooting something is pretty good, instead I watch people that hunt on RUclips because they are just like normal every day people who get out on the weekends and enjoy the great outdoors. Plus they only hunt public or private property.

    I do believe the industry is taking a turn towards reality because people are realizing you don’t just hit your grunt tube a couple times and 160 inch deer walks in at 20 yards and drops all within 15 minutes as portrayed on a lot of hunting shows.. that being said.. I’m seeing more public land shows popping up and it’s refreshing to see the real world situations like we see on most of our sits in a stand. It’s almost harmful for a hunter to expect that once in a lifetime buck to appear out of nowhere as they do on some of the shows.. keep promoting the real sport of hunting Sean you are doing a great job and may Christ guide your every step.

    Well said, yet there were videos of giant bucks being killed back in the late 80's early 90's. I started hunting in 1986, the VHS tapes were called monster buck series, they were filmed and produced by Bill Jordans realtree, there were a few other ones as well, and Cabela's and Bass pro has been around just as long. I will agree that you got better expertise at the mom and pop archery shops, still do to this day

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 лет назад

      Where I grew up in PA there were not videos, and there were not Cabelas. While Cabelas might have been around, they were not spread out or all over the place, so their exposure and influence was minimal as no one I knew had ever even heard of them. Hunting videos didn't turn up in video rental stores until the 1990s, which is when my friends and I started to find them.

      Sean's Outdoor Adventures unfortunately for at least 25 years the push has been towards record caliber bucks, that's what drives sales of these products, it's a marketing psychological scheme, consumers,(hunters) see pics of big 200" plus bucks on the products then they assume by using said product they will produce the same results, not knowing that the biggest majority of the big bucks are taken on high fenced farms. There is a show on RUclips called conquest200 go check it out, that is where most of these deer come from.

    well said...also many not all of these hunts are on fenced property or canned hunts. I have been in these type of fenced areas because of relatives etc.. reminds me alot of a dairy farm. Its not real hunting on pressured lands. Many of these big name hunters would not even hunt if they had to hunt on land with other pressure. There are people who would, and who have mouths to feed. The point is that you can't take antlers with you when you die, so more important than the size of the buck you shoot is the person you are. We all need to learn how to love our neighbor before that day of judgment arrives. Well said. I was wondering have you seen any of Michael Waddels videos on this subject? I saw your video calling him out I just wondered if you knew he's been calling out the hunting industry for years for losing touch with the every day hunter? I saw him talk about 10 yrs ago at the Cabelas in Hamburg PA . He really brought out how hunting is supposed to be fun and to shoot whatever makes you happy don't let the tv hunters tell you what you should do or how to hunt. He has also said many times that the best hunters are not on tv but are the ones that are regular people out there getting it done. just wondered what your thoughts were thanks

      John Rough believe what you will. But the only time he hunts high fences animals is for Promo (Hoyt Redwrx Release video) bone collector is fair chase. Just because it’s a quote unquote Ranch/Farm doesn’t equate to High Fence. And public land hunting usually is for people that don’t have access to private land. At least that’s the case in why I don’t hunt public land.

    Well said. I think the equation of big buck=good hunter is false and needs to be called out more. It takes more hunting acumen to get a doe on one of your MRC than it does to get a 140 class buck on a private farm in Iowa.
    Nothing wrong with doing either of those hunts, but the experience and the challenge(and the meat, of course) should be the reward in and of itself. It’s a shame that people would waste an animal and break the law just for a rack. Not really what hunting should be about.

    Poaching problems with big name "celebrity" hunters really is not new. I remember back in the early 2000s there were a spat of convictions of these hunters. All real hunters who respect wildlife and people should do all they can to separate themselves from "the industry". I know most guys will need to buy some products that are mass produced but my friends and I do deliberately minimize this aspect. I walk into the woods with a longbow. I have never watched any of these so called hunting shows. Never will. Guys if you check the websites there is no indication that any real changes from within are being made. I do not do anything like what these guys do and I do not use equipment they use or promote. I would be very skeptical of any company that sponsored these shows. These two mentioned are not alone. MANY sponsored hunters going back into the 80s were frauds and worse. Just because someone hunts or has a show does NOT mean I support them and I am NOT in this with everyone.

    You are right sgain! The tv shows are infomercials & they present an illusion that, after viewing multiple shows, the audience becomes desensitized to the reality, & pleasure of hunting. It becomes another job always it must be a buck, a gigantic buck, if it isn't then bagging a buck or doe is anticlimactic.

    Well said Sean, I have been saying this for years. Bill and Chris are just a couple of the Celebrity hunters that have been busted. If you go back and do some searching you will find many many more. One is a very well known hunter, very loved person. I see so many people that get no respect for the game they shoot. No one needs to shoot a big buck, the pressure is so great. Most hunters do not have the land and big deer in the areas they hunt in order to shoot these deer. Respect the game and for get the pressure. Shoot what makes you happy, not what someone else says is acceptable.

      I do the same. I try to hold out for a 3.5 year old, but if it is the end of a long distance hunt, or end of the season, and I need meat or need to fill my tag, I will lower the bar to a 2.5 year old, but I won't shoot a 1.5 year old unless it is a severely wounded deer and it becomes the ethically merciful thing to do to put it out of its suffering. This may be obvious but I think the "convenience" of buying licenses and tags over the internet have also spawned a culture of dishonesty along with taking money out of the hands of local stores. Here in Ohio, you call in your deer to a computer and they give you a number. Well how many people are not getting licenses and/or tags for their deer? Also, the deer limit in Ohio has been cut in half over the last few years across the state, (IMO) due to the compensation of dishonest hunters that are killing many more deer then tags sold. I'm relatively new to hunting, so this is just a observation.

    They wonder why hunting is being cast as a bad thing , well it's been made insanely pushed , watch the shows it's a pan to the products every two seconds. The board head , the bow down to the camera arm. It's made to look easy and everything is a monster buck. I like the show the meat eater he really takes you to how to kill it to how to cook it. We have lost it , we are on the slippery slope not solid ground . It has bothered me for years. My friends are even caught up in it with big Horn chasing.
    I watched a series on hunting Marsh bucks and back Hill country bucks , that's the kind of shows we need ones that explain hunting , wind currents , how to skirt the buck. That is a hunting show not a guy sitting in a tree drawing back, because some outfitter said go here. It's not hunting

    Nice video Sean. Too often people get criticized for killing a smaller deer. To me if you can consistently kill deer you’re good at hunting. I once ran into a guy at a state park he was wearing jeans, sneakers no camo and walking with a crossbow he was bragging about how he shot a really big and nice 8 point the year before. Just by simply walking the trails for hikers to me that was luck he bumped a deer and since he had a crossbow he was able to get the shot off. Anyway keep doing what you’re doing Sean happy holidays.

    For me the "hunt" has always been the trophy. I've not killed a deer in 6yrs since I've started strictly bowhunting. I lost all my private ground to land buyers and leasing companies. So now all i have is public land and it is tough. I made a ton of great memories though. That's what it should be about.

      That is great Russell that you have found the joy of the hunt. Amen to that and God bless you.

      That is where the real tragedy of hunting as an Industry comes from, it creates private ground land buyers and leasing companies that want to profit off the sport.

    It's on us too. This desire to have a trophy photo to show off what a great hunter you are is damaging. It makes the whole process of hunting less enjoyable..you feel pressure. I have some properties I hunt that I would be lucky to shoot a yearling doe. I have some where I pass up bucks. I get more joy out of a clean, quick, humane doe kill on the former properties then I do shooting a 3.5 y/o on the latter. We all need to lower our standards and just enjoy being in the woods. Only YOU really know how good a hunter you are. And YOUR opinion should be the only one that matters.

    I have been hunting for over thirty years and i don't buy the products any more i started by walking in the woods with a shot gun and setting on the ground and other than setting in a stand with a rifle that's all i use no camo no nothing. i hope they all go out of business and the TV hunter loose there jobs.

    Sean very very well said I had a conversation with an individual on Facebook tonight about Chris Brackett because I had heard something but I didn't know if it was true and he tried to convey to me that it was but he did not show me any proof so I just looked it up on RUclips and it is there for everyone to see although it doesn't really say anything about him being illegal and shooting two bucks where he was at because I didn't know if you could or could not but what offended me the most was the language that he use and I t like you I am a born again Christian and my hope one day is to be in heaven with Jesus so I hated to see that because I like that show but that just goes to show you how you can put Faith in someone because he always talked about the Lord he talked about being good and wholesome then to see this really really awful language coming out of his mouth was very disconcerting so I thank you for pointing all this out and it is really just heartbreaking because you are right it all comes down to the money on some of the TV shows that are out there today not all of them. God bless you brother and keep fighting the fight and telling the truth.

      Thanks for checking out my video, Tim. I hear you on all accounts. God breaks us down so that He can change our hearts and build us back up. Hopefully that is what He is doing with Chris. God chastises those whom He loves, so, when we are corrected or reproved we should count it as a mercy. God bless you.

    It's all about drawing people's attention. Whether that's big bucks or wild personalities. I think we need more Steve Rinella and fewer Chris Brackett types of personalities. The rise of RUclips hunting channel's could help. People are turning away from the mainstream shows. On the flip side though, I've also wondered if social media is hurting more than helping the hunting experience.

      It may come down to the people. People can make or brake it, depending on their behavior. It is pretty much the same in anything in life.

    T.V hunting is boring, the only show I watch was Buck Commander, that's more for the comedy. I know money drives some people to make awful decision, but if they showed the truth on their shows I think it would be way more meaningful to viewers.

    its funny how theas pepole pouched but are still called hunter the second they stoped playing by the rules or pouched they were no longer a hunter a hunter would have just took the original buck even if it was smaller and a hunter would have called the local game warden and said i sorry i maDE a horibble mistake and shot a cow instead of the bull i meant to pepole like this give all the good hunters a bad name

    The ugly side is sponsorships, which you partake in. Sponsorships influence opinions. Let’s be honest about this.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 лет назад +6

      LOL, I don't have any sponsors, lol. And, if you look at my content, I am unbiased in my presentation. And, when do you see me being disrespectful toward deer or caring only about big bucks? When do you see me not trying to care about people? If you look through my videos you will see that I make a solid effort to respond to people. I don't need to do that, but I make the effort. Again, I will let my actions speak for themselves.

      Sean's Outdoor Adventures didn’t you just get broad heads from some company? Were those free or did you pay? But yes you are respectful-that’s why I watch.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 лет назад

      THey offered to sponsor me by giving me products, but I told them I'd think about it. I'm not really in need of products so we will see. They sent me one broadhead to test out, and if I like it then we will talk about anything else. However, that has not influenced my unbiased approach, which you incorrectly accused me of being swayed by sponsors.
