- One of the largest typical whitetails ever captured on film, The Unicorn Buck is truly a world class giant. I spent 52 consecutive days hunting this buck in Illinois. Although I wasn't able to harvest him, I was fortunate enough to have seen him 4 times and got a total of 28 minutes of footage. He truly taught me the way of the big deer woods and for that, I owe him a lot....it was an honor.
More like a quarter horse with antlers. Beautiful animal.
Fantastic deer. Great photography too.
My god that buck was just beautiful
We didn't have a Unicorn Buck. Ours was an Albino. He was gorgeous. No one ever shot that guy. Bad luck. But a sign of good luck for the hunter to fill his freezer for the winter. A good hunter always whispers the hunters prayer before he goes out. Gives thanks to the one who gives way so you may eat and live another day. And a good hunter who wounds a buck and he runs away, tracks that buck until he finds him.
That was a 200 plus deer ! Man that was awesome .
I never hunted and even I can see that’s a magnificent buck!
Give it a try
@@Twitchisatrick I’ve thought about it…I’m a good shot. Hog hunting sounds like fun.
Good grannies, that deer is huge.
What an impressive deer
Absolute stud!!
yeah, I'd probably pass out in the stand.
Watching him pick his way through that tangle... I said he's sitting inside the bedding area.
Then he lays down... what an awesome hunt!
If you look at the video he has one brow tine that comes up in the middle of his forehead so I get it , very cool
He is the one you have prayed for all your life...god grants that wish, and you let him walk away...can only imagine what gods thinking.
that was definitely a beautiful Buck...at 3 minutes into video there was a heart shot available ( that I would have taken )....as well as a few other opportunities....* but you got some wonderful video of him for sure...thumbs up to your ability to hold back ( I would have emptied my clip )....imagine his rack the next year..??? OMG..!!!
Emptied your clip? You mean magazine? On your bow? During bow season? Pew pew? Pew pew during BOW SEASON? You don't really hunt, do you?
No. No you do not.
@@justinl9677 .....lol I'm from the east coast...clip is a mag. Didn't realize vid was during bow season I guess...my bad. Yes I do hunt both rifle an Bow season...muzzleloader also... ;-)
J D sorry I was a dick, my wife was being a you-know-what...again...no excuse though, my apologies.
J D I'M From the east coast. It's a magazine sorry man
Love it!!
Great genetics in that area! The Brewster buck was killed in the county just north of where this buck was filmed.
that is amazing!! what a giant!! we had a unicorn buck on the farm a few years ago,, not as big as that one, but still a very cool deer , check it out,," incredible buck with 3 antlers on like it outdoors"
Yup, them boys do get the adrenaline flowin. Great video 👍
Goose bumps, been there....
I harvested that same deer a few years back.!
Ruben Son are you from Paris?
Do you want to see his head mount.
Ruben Son yes sir. What did he end up scoring?
200 plus
Pics or it didn’t happen
Something as magnificent as that should be kept alive and not hunted down. Let the majestic creatures live out their prime lives having children who carry on their genes.
One time a was fishing on the Mississippi and I had walked almost completely across the river to the other side. On one side their was a power plant and the other was a protected agriculture site for the University of Minnesota. I had walked to the agriculture side and it was a high steep bank. Right in front of me 4 giant bucks came out of the woods and stood side by side on the edge of the bank looking at the river. They all had perfectly semmetrical racks and the leader had the biggest rack. It was so perfect I couldn't believe it. I could not even count the points on the first one. It was literally like a perfect 20 to 30 point typical buck and the next was a little smaller until the fourth. The only thing I can tell you for sure was that the smallest one was a perfect and huge 12 point buck. They were the most perfect bucks I had ever seen anywhere, t.v, magazines, trailcams, you name it. After standing there for about 30 seconds the first one turned down river and then pranced down the edge of the bank. The others followed in quick succession. It was a bachelor group of tight nit elite superior bucks. Could not believe it, I stood there motionless the whole time, even after it happened I just sat there and thought for a while and tried to recall all the details.
9miler 9milerz never heard of bachelor bucks? Or running buddy?
Stephen Klick I've seen many bachelor groups of 4 buck especially during summer months. However, a 20-30 point typical? Haha come on with that bullshit
I've also seen monster bucks on the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers in the Twin Cities. Was jogging about a mile and a half from downtown St. Paul and accidentally cornered a 18 pointer between the trail and the river (about 20ft away from me) and he gave out the most aggressive sneezy sound and stare down. About face, never ran so fast in my life.
I would of thought I died and went to heaven
Stephen Klick looks like you know where you're hunting next year
Prettiest buck I've ever seen.
It would be my luck that he would loose 50 inches or more next year. Lol. Can't wait to see if you harvest him next year. I just subscribed now.
If you had some shooting lanes trimmed you could have had a decent shot at this guy. Guessing this was a newer stand slipped in late? In any event, cool footage and a great deer. Thanks for sharing.
David Donohoe there's no question, I made that mistake. I had so many trail images of him on the trail closer to the edge and even in the creek bottom beneath me...so I elected not to trim out in the thicket. It would've been a 52 yard shot, but that day was dead calm and he was very calm. I paid the price for my mistake.
Latendresse Media Collective did you bow hunt him only?
Charles Tinsman yes, bow only.
Latendresse Media Collective I strictly muzzleloader hunt I haven't carried a rifle in 8 years killed my best buck last year 5 and a half year old 11 point I have a 4 and a half year old 10 I'm pursuing this year
Charles Tinsman well good luck to you bud!! Hope you get that 10 pointer this year!!
The best part of hunting is the extremely loud annoying drama music. An incredible buck but I had to turn the sound off.
Amazing I would still be shaking
Need to trim some shooting lanes.
Not with a mosin Nagant lol
Most people don't believe it, even long time hunters, but white tail deer, mule deer and elk can interbreed and occasionally do. They produce odd results even farther down the line until the original species dominates again.
Prolly shat my drawers if I seen this beast
You wanted to throw up? Well, I MISSED a buck as big as that in SD about 25 years ago that makes me sick to my stomach every time I think of him. Even now, 25 years later at 63 years old I'm sick to the pit of my stomach. The buck I missed was the biggest buck I've ever seen to this day even bigger than huge Illinois Mississippi river bottom bucks that I've seen. We've NEVER seen a buck even 3/4 as big as the one I missed in over thirty years of hunting the same ranch, with over 15,000 acres and only me and my buddy allowed to hunt. Now at 63 I can't walk the 10 miles we had to put in to see bucks like him. We're talking deer that are over 5-8 miles from any road, any trail, no atv riding only walking in/out. Those deer never see a human unless he's on a horse and they don't care. I'm sick now!!!
I'd say if that was to be taken right then it would have ranked in the Top 3 largest typicals ever shot
Monsters do exist!
Why "unicorn buck"? He's got more than 1 antler
He'll be a good one next year.
Damned if he won’t😂
Unicorn means one horn....either you or me one is very confused...
A unicorn is a mythical creature. I'm pretty sure that's why they are calling him that.
I seen a deer a dude captured and killed... it had regular rack but one brow tine was spiral and stood up like a unicorn horn... that’s what I was hoping to see here... something like that...
Olen Hunter dude...look very closely at the deer’s forehead and see the extra pedicle....where a straight vertical 12-13” spike antler grew out of his head like a unicorn. Sometimes it’s acceptable to play on words to get a point across, and o just don’t understand why people have to be so critical and insulting about stupid things like this.
@@JakeLatendresse critical or insulting? he admitted he could be the one confused - UniCorn means One Spike - and YES - you have to look very closely to see anything that would conjure a "Unicorn" reference - and that deer is screened by brush and almost always broadside profile angle of the rack - would have never thought anything remotely close to "Unicorn" unless you said something - a horrible misleading name you gave that buck - just a 5 second explanation for the name"Unicorn Buck" in the beginning should have been given - find something else to do - you guys are bad at this .
@@JakeLatendresse Until you mentioned that about the extra pedicle I almost missed it!
That is awesome! A Beautiful buck!
How does the deer not hear the music?????
its called editing mooran
Adam Hire- you must be a midget because that shit went right over your head.
Mike Cline
He's tuned to talk radio.
Lmaoooo
I think the deer must be deaf.
Deer with a fucking moose rack 😂
Did anyone ever bag that deer?
NO BUT SOMEBODY I KNOW DID SHOOT HIM THE FOLLOWING YEAR. THEY DIDN'T BAG HIM THEY JUST THREW HIM IN THE BACK OF THEIR TRUCK.
Myb if you'd grunted he would've been curious and tried to find from where sound came from, obviously he's the dominant buck n the area n they don't like intruders
very unique deer indeed...
Just out of curiosity...
Do they also she'd that unicorn horn like the rest of their rack?
Great video!👍
ida been grunting my ass off to get him back in range lololol
Was there ever any articles on this deer looks huge
I shot and lost a typical in Illinois in 2006 bigger than that. 10 in brows more mass and his 4 was over 12 inches.
Look at those thines!
These bucks are farm raised on foods and nutrients that help maximize antler gains.
The deer is then placed in a fenced in area for the Hunter who is paying big money to shoot it.🤪
Was this buck ever takin that year????
GMO corn and other vegetation can cause this defect. In the past 15 years I have seen 3 stories of big doe deer having huge antlers! Never saw it before and after doing some research I found that they ALL were from a 200 mile radius where GMO corn and soy beans were planted. Interesting but very very odd and definitely not normal. This unicorn buck could be a result of it too.
That has nothing to do with it gmo grain is everywhere in this country
He would make a lot of antler soup that's for sure.
Who eats antlers?!
My buddy here in Pennsylvania got a unicorn buck on game camera nowhere near that big only an 8 point but still a uni
i seen a rack of horns not one horn unicorn means one horn nice buck but not a fukin unicorn
I'm pretty sure he ment unicorn as in a mythical beast. As in the deer is so big it's like a unicorn
skott tailor it wasn't literal Jack ass. Unicorn means uncatchable.
Apollos 02 unicorn means rare
Elton Cummings wrong.
Follow it till the end and when the deer turns and faces the camera, you can see the horn in the center of his head.
Dream Maker for Sure.
You can buy them daily.
I think he needed another year or two on him.
So refreshing to see someone viewing nature without acting on the tendency to slaughter it. Very good!
I would be crying in the woods
I would have been hinting with a .458 socom or 45-70 and taken that big boy home.
Were are your shooting lanes
Did anybody ever kill that buck?
That deer would hear the air off my arrow.
Didn’t go 20
Did anyone ever kill him ?
this is why i like 270. I'd probably would've let him walk anyway.
Doesn't uni mean 1 .....just sayn
Jon Patterson Technically, unicorn means uncatchable, which pretty much means rare(hard to get/find), and it's shaped like a unicorn(I mean it's as big as a unicorn), and if you look at the end it has a horn in the center of its head.
Say, just a minute! Who's this guy masquerading as me? Not sure the world is ready for more than one of us.
Maybe he's talking about the bucks tool.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he probably named the deer unicorn, since there is a big tine growing out of his forehead just like the pictures of the mythical "unicorn" always show. I could be wrong though. Lol
He may not be referring to it as a "unicorn" in the typical sense of having one antler, but in the sense that one so beautiful is never seen, like it's his unicorn. We call guns that we would really like to have, but may never get, our "unicorn".
dustin dingivan No man Look again! It has a long single antler coming out right between it's 2 normal antlers I've actually shot one A 5x5 with a 7" "unicorn" antler in the middle
Stlrs 7 ...ah, I'm on my phone when I watch and can't see that well. I'll watch it again when I get a chance. Thanks
dustin dingivan I think best time to see it is 1:17 - 1:21
He didn't have a grunt or anything with him
was the deer ever killed? found?
Therealdeal I'mwrongbut yes he was killed by a gun hunter opening day of gun season that year.
THIS BUCK IS MORE CORN THAN UNI.
Wow.
Whoa...
Well, he didn’t get to be as old as he is/was by being stupid. That rack is just as pretty Miss Dollys is!
YEE GADZ!
If I had a fenced in hunting property I would see deer
Like this too.
Beast !!!!! 😕
Kinda disappoint...thought I was going to see a buck with a single antler in the middle of its head.
Truly a brute... he still walking?
Ryan Willett unfortunately not. He was killed by a gun hunter opening day of gun season that year. The buck had three busted tines when he was killed.
Tough break man. Sad end after you've put so much into the chase.
Dang that sucks, with 3 broke tines he prolly lost 20-30" of bone but I guess you gotta take that ahoy when it's offered busted rack or not.. truly beautiful deer though... they don't make them in that model around here sadly
crap running down both legs . . . boots full . . . maybe throwing up too
brokenwolf67 lol no kidding.. Just a giant skid mark walking back to camp haha
brokenwolf67 same
Anybody got him yet????
What makes him a “unicorn” buck?
He’s got a brow tine or some sort of extra beam that looks like it’s coming out the middle of his head. 4:21
is this the same deer that Tim Wells had on film when he and buck medley were hunting?
Shane Chitwood no this buck was killed by a gun hunter opening day of IL gun season that same year.
Now fuck I wish I had a photo of the unicorn buck I almost shot last year that was an actual unicorn a mule deer with 1 spike coming right out of the center of his head just so I could show you what a real unicorn is
Okay im missed something why is it called the unicorn. Buck i didnt see anything at all unusuall .?looks like a meer dramatization for what what ?
Unicorn aka one in kind. That is an absolutely giant typical rack. Could very well rank top five ever if someone harvested him
What do you think he would score
Jeff Johnston he was killed by a gun hunter and as I was told, he scored 189” net typical with 4 busted tines.i estimated him at 212”-215” gross....but I’ll never know.
I think I just got a Woody.
What did I miss unicorn means one horn.
Jeffery Schirm have you ever heard of the word figurative! All three of you critics that want to beat that down are silly. He has a freaking 12” spike coming straight out of his head, on a completely different pedicle, between his normal rack. Can you not see that? Geez. Give it a break.
@@JakeLatendresse Of course he can't see that, he's still behind the power curve when it comes to comprehension. Couple that with his moderate to heavy consumption of lead-based paint chips and there isn't much of a chance of him advancing into the double-digits on the I.Q. chart.
Beautiful video, it's a crying shame that it wasn't you that got to harvest that monster, but you got some amazing footage, and that will last way longer than the meat he would have added to your freezer!
Dude illinois has huge deer. Surprised ive never seen tim wells hunt ohio. Ohio has stupid fuckin huge deer over by mt vernon coshocton area. Also holmes county.
vanishes from my life, lol. my life story
That's 200 all day
Why would you shoot some deer that was that Great?
mark rigsby it would look even greater on the wall
antifa
just to see it die us hunters only like to kill things we don't care about the story or the meat we just like killing ok I'm just being a smart ass I'm just so tired of hearing these dumb ass talk no one cares more for deer then the true hunters that hunt them It sucks to shoot a big buck u been hunting for a few years just means the hunt is over and have to start all over I love just being in the woods with the peace and quiet there nothing better then haven a really bad or stressful day and then going out in getting in a tree it's the most peaceful thing ever it's the BEST STRESS RELIEVER THIS IS
mark rigsby --- Why would you shoot some deer that was that Great? --- The Greatest thing about a mature buck is that he's already passed on his genetics to at least 5 - 10 years worth of Fawns . Every January / February during the early thaw (usually) these whitetail deer lose their antlers and every late summer they grow a new set for the fall . Truth is a young buck doesn't grow a massive amount of antler only mature bucks produce that much . Mature bucks also have more meat on their skeletal structure , the True purpose behind Hunting is food . Hunting is enjoyable and it also keeps the genetics from bottle necking . You don't want the same 1 buck breeding year after year for 5 - 10 years straight , you'll eventually have degraded deer . I've seen people who didn't manage their cattle properly and the bull bred his own offspring , the results were sad . The same thing happens with sheep , goats , horses , dogs , etc ,. Every where there was whitetail deer there used to be wolves , with the majority of large predators in decline or extinct in these modern areas , there's no real way to manage the wild prey species to keep a healthy dispersal in place .
why wouldn't you ?
Dang it was huge when I saw it for two seconds
What the hell is a unicorn buck?
Look at the 4.19 mark.
I'm confused I'm looking at this video I'm looking for a deer with one horn I don't know that's a nice deer with a hell of a rack on him
Michael Picozzi If you look very closely, you’ll see a 12” tine that comes straight up between his main rack, just like a unicorn.
Thanks for explaining I didn't know that
I think you mean „unicum“ and not unicorn
You've got to watch out for those UNICORN buck, they will disappear from your life with a quickness! Even though they're the most common deer, they're quite elusive! 🤣 P.S.A. LSD should not be ingested prior to your hunting excursions!
Thats what happens when you hunt a pay to hunt a "big" buck !.
Ronald Weese I didn’t pay a dime for that hunt, sir.
Any word on the final score ??
King Will net typical B&C 189” with 4 broken tines is what I heard.
me and my son had one like it's to we found it dead by blue tongue it had three drop ties
There is a hunting GOD!!!.......and he don’t love me🤯😟😣😫😭🤧
Is it a real unicorn
Where was this at in Illinois?
Marc griffis Clarke County near Paris, IL
DON'T know if you said but how many point was it?looked to be 12 or 14. Thanks and very nice video
And you shot it. Don't shoot unicorns
