The fact that they even talked about the engine change for so long is what gave it away. They refuse to give us what we want and speak to us on our level without the corporate double speak getting in the way. Just say "we're moving away from identity politics" or "we want to focus on gameplay and less on messaging. "

Nah the engine was indeed one of the major problems of infinite launch being lackluster and many of the people behind it have left and leadership has changed but we'll have to see how they handle things.

Gotta be honest, i don't think i have ever met a single girl in my entire life who was a Halo fan. So kinda wondering how they managed to fill their dev team with all these supposed Halo fan girls. It already reeks of being disingenuous. It was a game about being a badass soldier dude killing aliens and saving the world. It wasn't about the "intricate characters". The main character was LITERALLY a faceless voiceless dude. It was about making war with cool guns and cool vehicles and cool aliens, that's it. It was the Monster-Truck made-for-boys game, and that's why guys loved it.
I'm not saying women shouldn't be working on the dev team. But when you put them in front of the camera and have them gush about "what makes Halo such an incredible game" just reeks of being inauthentic and forced and already tells me everything i need to know about how nobody on this team actually cares (or knows) about what made Halo a successful game. It's like watching some girl talk about the Die-Hard movie franchise and how it was so good because of its "deep characters and world building." No, it isn't. It was about a manly man being a manly man and saving the day. That's it. Nothing more nothing less.
Because if they were being authentic, all you would see is a bunch of GUYS in front of the camera talking about how it was so badass to pick up cool guns and vehicles and become an army of one against an entire invasion of aliens with your bro with couch co-op.
Trying to turn Halo into a diverse game made for an audience of both men and women is like trying to make lipstick and marketing it to men. It's not going to work. Some products are just meant for one side of the aisle, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Halo hasn't really been enjoyable for me past Halo 2. But it really sucks that we have had to sacrifice so many IPs that had potential just to prove that we were right all along and have these companies learn the hard way.
Putting a pink haired wokie in charge of Halo is just more proof that Microsoft has no idea what they are doing.
I have zero faith that these people will make a good game.

Honestly, when it comes to Halo, graphics are important since they were a core component of their marketability. But you can't sell a Halo game just on that, it's at best a starting point.

Graphics and the character creator are the two things that's a red flag for me if a review spends way too much time talking about them. That always means the rest of the game is mediocre at best.

Rebranding is meaningless if they keep the same practices and people.
They fired 3/4 of their staff, the ENTIRETY of management, and hired the game director who was brought in to fix MCC for PC with only 15 people to be their studio head.
He really gets Halo.
The game director for MCC literally saved MCC, the community has a lot of faith in him.
Guess you'll be happy to know that the staff got gutted.
There's a countless amount of things that were made worse by someone who "gets" something.
Just because he got lucky once doesn't mean he'll maintain that quality. Remain skeptical.

A lot of people care about how a game looks, it's why they buy high end PCs and consoles. With game engines like Unreal, there's no excuse for pumping out low quality games anymore.

Art style gets more mileage than high res. Even more so now that damn near everything 'high res' looks the same.
Sure, some people will flex that their rig allows them to see ever pore on the NPC, but it's like reving a motor in your gararge. Impressive for a few minutes, and that's it.
The fact that Asmon is still somehow convinced that Unreal is optimized is mindboggling. No Unreal is really feature rich, helps people cut corners, and does it at the cost of poor optimization.

This is Halo Infinite pre-game footage all over again. Everyone gets hyped and forget to wait for an actual game to come out before realizing its not great. While this rebrand looks positive everyone should temper their expectations until we see a real and finished product players are playing (and enjoying).
Remember: Its still in the same 343 building, with a lot of the same staff, and still under Microsoft with the contractor limits.
Contractor limits should now not be an issue due to unreal engine being pretty much industry standard, all the contractors brought on board would know how to use it day one so no more 6 months of training, plus pretty much all of 343s management were fired so from a company standpoint it should be different. The problem is Microsoft can still interfere with the making of the game and ruin everything again but at least it’s a good step forward.

@@king_dot Yeah if the people working on it are not directly working for Microsoft then no contract limits. However if they are then its still part of MS mandatory contractor policy and will still be an issue if they work at the Halo Studios in person.

They renamed 343 as halo studio with a lower case h and highlight their diverse new team that supposedly is going to save the franchise, if hope for halo being good again was non existent when they were called 343 then I really don't see them turning it around with a name change...

The visuals aren't the problem..... it's the stories. None of these people understand what made HALO great in the first place. The only thing I just saw was diversity in people that don't give a damn about HALO. I say this new project is DOA.

The head of the MCC (master chief collection) was brought to lead the new team and reports of between 30% and 50% of the rest of the studio was let go or transferred to other projects inside Microsoft.. on top of that they are hiring currently to replace said lost staff

Then talked to some people I know at the studio and it's going to be the same ol thing under a new name. Other than the fact it's a new engine and new set of projects.
