"Best" guitar solo, does not necessarily mean "Fastest", or "Most complex". It can mean "Hits your heart". This Clapton exercise indeed touches the soul.
Exactly. I would like to see some of these so called great guitarists of today play with a slide on their finger or hear them play some Jazz or with an orchestra or maybe play some country or pop. If anyone's number 1 doesn't have an assortment of genre versatility then I don't think you can consider them so great. Speed and tricks are used to cover up mistakes.
Maurice so....ive have to Peter has out did him more melodic sorry eric out played in his way he's not the best you got so many GREAT PLAYERS that blow some of our GREATS away THAT'S not wat music is about man
Best thing about this clip: the playing. Next best thing: EC’s obvious delight in PF’s playing. That spirit of real generosity and welcome seems always a beautiful thing in music and outside of it.
Frampton is a monster. He used to play in a band called Humble Pie. If you have never heard them you have a treat in store. He kind of turned into a teen idol for a time. Then he was laying low an turned up playing in David Bowie's band on the Glass Spider tour. Too bad that most people only know him from his pop star days.
Looks to me that these two guitarists are talking to each other thru their guitars/music. They're communicating using a completely different language than what reglar people use. Outstanding.
Not so sure about the "best guitar solo of all times" headline - but you cannot deny the deep emotional and musical connection Clapton and Frampton have between themselves on this George Harrison classic - it's a constant "call and return" between both masters, and somehow, they never seem to step on each other...truly a masterpiece!
Agree, well put. And the fact that it may not be the best takes nothing away from the mastery nor the joy of watching and listening to the two as well as the band.
That look on Clapton's face when Frampton keeps, seemingly to "challenge" him to: Hey Eric, top this lick... - It is priceless. And then Clapton "answers" back with one of his own licks. This is an example of 2 master guitarists having a sort of "Battle of the Bands" except in this case "Battle of the Axes". That Clapton look seems to be of bemusement as if to say: Pete, are you serious? You really think I can't top that lick? Listen up old pal .... Those of us old enough can remember those back yard and local Battle of the Bands ... when Rock n Roll was king. Good stuff all around.
He's so talented, yet led such a tragic life. I can't help but to feel compassion for him with all the sadness he's experienced. I hope one day he finds true peace in his life.
Pete waited for this one shining moment and they killed it I heard this interview and I think they both were in so much Aw of each other thats GRATITUDE❤
I keep returning to this! Peters is incredible ❣️Eric always amazing too‼️The only other time I have seen this look on Eric’s face is when he played with JJ CALE❤️
I saw Eric on Saturday live Lucky to have seats close up and even at the age of 79 was a class act. Best gig I’ve ever been to. One of the greatest musicians that ever lived
I love the custom paint job on Eric's Stratocaster , every solo Eric does is so masterful , I'm sure he has " perfect pitch " Cheers Ya'll . FENDER should market these Custom paint job Strats .... Robin Trower and Malmsteen are Hero's of the Strat .
Yep...I've never heard Eric sing an out of tune note...and I've heard a lot of his live stuff, really live and on RUclips. He also plays his solos with more feeling than most.
The thing that sets Clapton apart, is the fact that his head is nowhere in the equation. It's straight from the heart onto the fretboard. This man changed my life from the time I was 15 yrs old. I used to spend hours playing and rewinding cassette tapes to pick his songs. He may not be God, but he's the best guitar player I've ever heard. That's my humble opinion. Cheers mate!
I used to get tickets for Woking and it was always a toss up as to what mood Eric was in. If he 'went into one' within two songs you knew you were in for a memorable night. Memories that I will always cherish.
Eric is one of the Best guitar player of rock and Blues.and the difference between him and the others is that he is the Unic Guitarist that use less effects in his instrument! He' s got a sound of an original electric guitar!
After all these years, it's fascinating to hear all these folks talk about ancient times, when they were kids, essentially. Graham Bond, Yardbirds, John Mayall; these fellows, among others, are like a family tree that bore fruit in the mid sixties and continued the gift that was contemporary music. i remember seeing John Mayall's Bluesbreakers on some late-night show on what we knew as 'educational TV' in NE Ohio, in about 66. Little did i know i was watching future rock greats. The same thing happened with the band Zephyr - their guitarist was a fellow named Tommy Bolin, and also had a marvelous singer named Candy Givens (sadly, not as well known). i always thought i knew a bit about the musical history of my time, but RUclips has shown me that i didn't know shit.
It just needed a lil boost from Clapton's licks for Frampton to be inspired to launch off with his style. Both sounded incredibly poignant and uplifting
Music is many things, not one. I wonder how many live and die without hearing more than a single style of noise and never feel all the world and time holds.
@@BlueBeeMCMLXI Exactly. I will put my money on the guitarist's who has the most genre versatility and who ranks highest among the most of them. I know Clapton is mine because he is so good in just about all genres of music. He makes the pentatonic scale playing so sexy.

His best solo? No such thing. Although, I would argue that he was AT HIS BEST with CREAM. That trio pinnacled a blend of sound while taking on their own unique jam style that would still be heard til this day. Some of his BEST work can be heard all throughout the first three albums. This man is was an unreal guitarist in his prime.
After a lengthy career, it's hard to believe that Clapton wouldn't have already performed or recorded something even greater than the solo presented in this video.
It's from a young person who has heard a few musical moments making this title for the edited video. Clapton would have thousands of great solos recorded.
I agree. In the past several decades, he's pretty standard in his licks. But I saw him in concert live in 2008, and he shredded like crazy. Started playing some Jimi and Cream riffs, the crowd went crazy.
Clapton and Carlos, more than any other guitarists I can think of, are masters of timing, phrasing, and shaping the music. It’s as much about the the shape of the silences as it is about the notes played.
I saw Frampton open for Clapton at the Mid South Coliseum in Memphis, Tennessee just after he came out with I Shot The Sheriff. I'm fixing to turn 65 yrs old. Damn where did the time go.
What some commenters fail to see (in my opinion) is the relaxed mastery of the masters (old virtuosos). They no longer need to shred or overplay, they are so comfortable with their instrument that they can just let the music flow. I prefer the music of the older people, BB King, Boz Skaggs, and of course these two. They show a mastery earned over a lifetime of playing.
1- They get paid to do that which they love. I wish I could experience that freedom 2- Do you think they are oblivious to every one else in the band when they are going back and forth like that?
These two guys with neurological issues in their hands have so much soul they overcome adversity. Beautiful!!

Nobody was making a competition of it, just you came up with it now haha
Not unique to the blues. Long history of call and response in jazz too. If you listen to Frampton you can hear how influenced by jazz he is.
