You said it brother... wish he’d “lose himself” more often... instead of being too careful and polished with his guitar playing. This reminds me of his old Cream days!!
@@spikespiegel5434 i think like anyone else he probably has nights where hes feeling it more than others. hes still proficient on off nights but when hes really on there aint anybody with better feel and phrasing than clapton
One of the great things about Clapton is this: Some people know how to make the guitar work and can play a trillion notes per second and some people are musicians who use the guitar to express their musicianship. Clapton is the latter. His solos are an extension of the melody of the song. They are also sh it hot and make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up on end!
It’s all about taste not speed, music is meant to pleasant to your ears it’s the tone and the dialect the temper of his guitar it’s a Clapton blend that’s where his talent is.
@@janangelo2936 Once you will be a great guitarist for more than 50 years, once you will be able to create some unforgettable melodies and once you will be able to create a screaming tone with a Fender Stratocaster like Eric Clapton .... Don’t worry. Whether you realize it or not, you’re slowly turning into your father; we all are. It can be a good thing, or bad, just depends on your perspective.
He does such a good job of making technical stuff sound totally natural and fluid. Even though each note has what sounds like perfect precision timing. It really does sound like it's singing.
The number of viewers doesn't determine what is bad or good. Clapton is well known for his work in Cream, which was commendable and innovative. (Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker were immensely innovative, so that helped.) But since Cream, really not that great. As an electric blues guitarist, he is decidedly meh.
I have seen him live in concert a number of times. I even flew to Shanghai for his first ever performance in China. When you are there in the crowd you feel like you are floating in air. He has got something intangible in that heart of his. Or maybe it's his fingers. Not sure. But he is our gift from God.
I`ve seen Eric perform since the `70s. Sometimes he`s wasn`t inspired ( read to drunk to perform ) , other times he was plain God on 6 strings. But it was always something to remember. He`s one of the very few that realy masters the guitar in every way. In the 60`s he was booked with John Mayall in Schiedam for 2 hours , they stayed for 6 hours playing straight till morning.......legendary!!
Doesn't get any better than this. This man tells one hell of a story through his guitar. I can only imagine what it must be like to sit in a jam session with this man....
oH MY God, it's not fair so much talent and skill in one person. Definitely the best all-round guitarplayer ever...That's playing the stars from heaven.....
Amazing, indeed! That may well be one of Eric's best solos (okay, one of his 40 best). Lots of blazing speed. Nice muted tone. And all with the relaxed undercurrent of reggae. Thanks for posting this. Almost 1/2 million views!
To me, it was never about who is the greatest guitar player, it's about style. Eric Clapton's style was always number 1 in my opinion all the way back to Cream.
Clapton is fantastic. I find it humorous when others criticize other musicians, a true display of ignorance. Every musician has their own thing to say, some not as well as others, but it's their voice. If you don't enjoy it, then don't listen. To tear others down only shows your own insecurity.
That's right Jeff!! EC is trailblazer, freakin' pioneer, refined TASTE to the 20th power. Notice how he eases into it, just popping little clean funk ditties, then begins to burn a little bit, keeps building & ends up smokin' up high! He took the crowd on a ride as they all felt his vibe as he builds to a Climax! Kinda like SEX?!! He's the man & there will never ever be another!! Millions would recognize his playing in 10 notes or less!
So many times I have seen videos of him performing and I think,,wow I love that the most..and then I will see another and its the same thing..live forever Slowhand
@xxxmicamicaxxx All of that, PLUS Clapton can play a trillion and ONE notes per second. Hahaha. It's amazing how much control he has over each individual note. Truly the best guitarist in history, in my opinion.
He can express all his emotion through music. Like someone stated before it is literally singing… he only leaves you with good vibes and your brain trying to sing along to a guitar solo?!!!!!
it's unreal, you try to play this solo with your mind and you understand how Clapton is a magician because for him it's totally pure feeling, like a movie; slowly at the beginning with an apothéose at the end without forgetting the giant Steve Gad who gives so much power at this solo.AMAZING
You see this and you begin to understand why, when Jimi Hendrix first made his way to London in 1966 with Chas Chandler, he made it priority number one to seek out and have a jam session with Eric Clapton: Similis simili gaudet.
This is Clapton jamming with Santana's rhythm section as Crossroads 2004 and he''s killing it in this solo. It's rare to see Clapton play a really fast solo like we see hear. I love it. His tone sounds like it did during his days with Cream. He probably played this particular funky looking Strat with straight pickups once and we just saw it.
+Led ZeppelinFan The guitar is one he had custom painted by an artist he particularly admired and he used it a lot for a period of time. It's an Eric Clapton signature Strat. He most likely has each one of his own guitars made to very specific standards by the people at Fender Custom Shop. I'm guessing the pickups are the vintage noiseless ones he uses now instead of the active Lace Sensors on the original EC Strats. Those do have that special mid boost built into one of the tone circuits and that's how he can get all the extra drive a Strat does not have normally. Just a guess.
Zepp, that's his own rhythm section. That's Nathan East on bass and Steve Gadd on drums. Check out the Hyde Park version of I Shot the Sheriff and you can see i/them a little clearer. Another smokin solo as well too to boot! And Steve Gadd brings the house down on the drums on that one too :-) +1 to Larry Geetar, those are called the Crash'o'casters. A graffiti artist painted 3 EC Signature Strats for him. pretty awesome lookin.
Yes, very distinctive looks for an all time distinctive player - one of the Top Five in my opinion. Do you know the artist's name, by any chance? And have a wonderful 4th of July weekend!
