My top 3: 1st: Tokyo (2009) 2nd: Tokyo (1988) 3rd: BBC TV (1977) In that BBC clip, Clapton was drunk af and he still could play amazingly well. When I'm drunk I can't even hit an Em or an Am! xD
Thanks for putting this compilation together. For me, I Shot is one of THE highlights of his live sets - and each time I hear it, he does something different that makes me go 'whoah - where did he pull that out from?'
A tremendous talent, unequalled in my lifetime. (I am 71.) Amazingly, he always surrounds himself with gifted, brilliant musicians. Always a phenomenally good performance!
For me the best version of this song will always be live at Bonner Springs, 1985. The entire Behind The Sun tour was incredible and filled with energy. The '83-88 period will always be when I believe Clapton was at his best creatively, vocally, and musically. Those live shows during that time are a testament to this.
The most amazing about these solos is that he is playing with his eyes closed. He is not looking once at the guitar. That was I find absolutely amazing
2009 (Japan) is the best version by far! Eric Clapton is like wine, gets better with age! Thanks a bunch for sharing this video, this is one of my 3 favourite songs of all times! :)
For me, his Hyde Park version (1997) is up there as possibly the best. The way Steve Gadd plays ever so slightly behind the beat, and Eric just goes into the stratosphere with his soloing. Also a big mention to the 24 Nights version where at the start he plays a harmonised duet with Phil Palmer. Sooo tasty!!
Tokyo 2009 the best for me , beautiful phrasing ,changing sounds all the time , and the Drummer !!!! My God he would drive any guitar player to its best !!! Very heavy on the drums and Eric felt it !!!
With respect to all of the other honourable mentions. There's a clear winner. I Shot The Sheriff Eric Clapton - Play With Fire (CD1) - Bootleg Album, 1991.
1) 2004 Crossraod Guitar Festival for sure 2) 1989 Tokyo 3) 17 february 1991 at RAH 4) London, England - October 15, 1998 5) 1997 in Hyde Park 6) 1997 in Budokan 27 october (wha wha) 7) 1990 4th pieces band at RAH 30 january 1990 8) Royal Albert Hall, London, England, February 3rd, 1989
Hype Park solo is a bit short to have a nice progression, plus the band anticipating the end of the song made the end of the solo a bit strange. A nice one, but not as strong as the ones in this medley.
I was just counting how many times he goes through the chord progression. I thought it was interesting that sometimes the solo was a long one, and other times shorter. And I wondered how consistent he was about when he changes intensity. So I counted them to help me compare. When I made this video I had pretty much just discovered Eric Clapton, even though he'd been playing about as long as I'd been alive. Everything fascinated me.
@@nowandthenelated that makes sense and indeed is interesting… I’ve listened to hundreds of hours of this song and never really paid attention to how long he goes in some versions bs others. Good stuff!

Eric is one of my favourite guitarist but you also gotta give credit to other guys as well who’s been with him for the last 30 years...
the one he did at crossroads 2010 is one of the best solos i've ever heard.

This is a great video. Something about I shot the sheriff just brings out the best in Clapton. An absolute joy to watch.

Once you know the different shapes on the fretboard it’s pretty easy to navigate with just your hands. The tricky part is making it sound this good 😅
Crossroads 2004 is the best, most spirited solo of all of these
I like the way of „swag n reggea“! He killzz it !

At the bbc tv show in 1977 he was drunk. I can't believe he still that good even when he's drunk
For me, the best version it's Eric Clapton in 2010.
All of these versions are god-like but I love the energy of 2004 the most
Listen to the msg 2004 version
It'll blow your mind
@@RockAndBlues7 thank you. I got shivers listening to that version. Awesome!

For the curious.
I personally think Eric is the best guitar player ever.
Both Hyde Park and the 1985 solo from Hartford Connecticut should be included, I think. Great compilation and enjoyable to watch for sure
Love this. Thanks!

Great to see Ray Cooper there in the background, giving it his all on percussion. And is that Alan Clark I spy on keys???
16.23 light blue strat . That drummer got the best out of Clapton awesome ❤❤❤

Search the I Shot the Sheriff from Sep 29, 2006....one of the most original fluid solos he's ever done
Thanks for the tip. You are right, and I enjoyed it. Found it here: ruclips.net/video/GWSQAOTcMdA/видео.html

Thx for the nudge. Will check out. Have you seen the Hyde Park ('97) one. Well worth a watch if not.
@@Steve-ih7dg oh yeah, love the Hyde Park one! thanks Steve!
I shot the sherrif on MSG 2004 was on par with the crossroads.
molto bello peccato x la pubblicità che interrompe un'opera d'arte.
Falta la de crossroad del 2010. Que es, para mi, una de laas mejores.
crossroads 2010 was the best imo

korea???live?
can you do this with another song?
I'm sorry, I can't. The computer I used to work on died a long time ago and I lost the ability to work with video.

Has anyone figured out what the numbers in the bottom left mean?
