Hey Dom - As well as being able to rename each row/lane in the drum editor it's worth a mention that you can also drag and drop the rows to change the order they display from top to bottom. I love to use this feature to make the rows display more like a drum score with the kick drum at the bottom, snare in the middle and cymbals at the top. It just makes everything a bit more visual if you are working from score - I also prefer to think of the pitches of the drums or even the visual appearance of an acoustic kit with kick low down, the toms and snare in the middle and the cymbals up high. You can do this really easily in the Drum editor. Changing the order the rows appear by dragging them doesn't change the note the they trigger from the drum map; just the orders they appear in.
I will never RTFM, but I will watch Dom Sigalas videos! This is great condensed information by presenting use cases. I have bought Cubase tutorial videos before, but it has never felt wholesome, as the presenter skipped over features rather quickly if he didn't use it personally. Feature request: have a Dom SIgalas, Chris Selim or Greg Ondo video under every topic in the manual of Cubase. Having the features explained is one part, but getting it presented with real use cases is another level.
That was an eye-opener Dom. So many features that were hidden under the "skins" 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to make this wonderful videos and sharing.
Again a great one. Thank you Dom. "Independent Rack Loop" - if I only had known about it earlier 🤔 Although - talking about VST3 - IMHO you forgot to mention the "Generate Drum Map from Instrument" feature - this is extremely useful e. g. when you put together very large sets with your favourite drum samples in - let's say - Groove Agent.
Thanks again Dom for show all these Drum editor features that I forgot about did'nt know existed It makes Cubase invailuable adds so much to creativity to my work flow. I still get excited about cubase.People who are into Harware never realize that DAW software Cubase can make you feel the same way.For me more so.
I cant believe this. Ive been using Cubase for almost two decades. Now that my MIDI Keyboard is having trouble connecting, I had to program my drums this way. WOW all this time I probably could have saved some time by programing my drums, instead of playing them out.
Thank you for making these great videos. You really help me to find small things in Cubase that makes me love cubase even more. In this case I knew the drum editor quite well and also made a drum map for my TR8S but never had an idea of Independent Track loop excisted, also to show the note lengths is for me a better taste and not to mention to isolate and only show used keys! You are important for the cubase team and making this product even more understood! Thanks alot for your videos!
I have been using Cubase since 90s and in those days, most of our time went into drum programming. I have learnt how to do bunch of stuff standard midi key editor, and I must admit that for years, I was ignoring drum editor. I don't have much need for it, I sequence most of my drums from exteral sequencers, but this editor is really time saving for those that sped hours fine tuning Superior Drummer.
I have used the drum editor post production and now with all the features that you showed us I will try flipping the order and program then embellish. Thanks
This is so coooool! I knew to loop outside the actual time line. But not that you can uuse Drum Editor. From now on. -I ❤️ Drum Editor. It’s so difficult to get a steady groove in many cases the lack of feeling. And it’s very nice to be free from the metronome.
Thanks, yet again very helpful. I've been using the Drum Editor for years and years now, but you've still managed to show me great features that I had no idea existed. Also, your videos are enjoyable to watch and perfectly paced
My jaw dropped to the floor when you made the drum editor loop play on with the track! Argggghhhhhhh. Has this always been there? Been using Cubase for 19 years. Feel like such an idiot.
Thanks Dom. Maybe make a video showing how to map the drum editor to specific VST or Kontakt drum instruments, so that the editor automatically puts the correct drum names for the instrument on that track.
Hello Dom, Could you make tutorial about using REX file in cubase mediabay + groove agent. Don't know why my rex file in mediabay are playing too fast - whatever tempo is the project
Actually used the Drum Editor all the way back to the Atari ST Cubase 1.0 version! The fantastic thing is that this is probably the editor that has changed the least of all the editors that still remain from the 1.0 version(because it was so great from the get go to do a very specific task). I think most if not all the functions shown here (minus the one related to virtual instruments signaling) already was there with the 1989 1.0 version. The drumstick editing with the diamonds, the individual snaps (in a quantize column back then, but the same), the velocity levels drawing at the bottom and the individual loops within the edit window.... all there even back then! (don't remember if all the keyboard shortcuts were there though) You can just imagine how absolutely fantastic that first version of Cubase was when it was released.
Oh mann!! That’s an awesome tutorial and now I want to play with modern 80’s kit! Also nice simple loop that you created for this tutorial! Wonder how you got just 56k subscribers. You deserve more😍
As Im getting back to DAW Cubase after years, couldn't find Beat Designer, and was bummed. Till you upgraded the whole thing in one video!!! Cheers mate
Lots of useful information, thanks! I’d never heard of the independent track loop! HOWEVER, this video assumes Cubase has the map for your vsti. This is something I have not solved satisfactorily for my favourite, Superior Drummer 3. Perhaps you could give us some tips for an easy way to create maps for drum vsts with a huge number of articulations?
I always use the drum editor for drums. Why was there no shortcut before? Enter Dom, who showed me at least 10 things I didn't know about it. Thanks Brother.
The whole reason I haven't been using the drum editor is because I thought you couldn't use the global quantize. It was always defaulted to "snap from drum map." I even asked in a club cubase and they said it wasn't possible at the moment. I guess I should have read the manual but thank you so much. I always learn something new from your videos.
Great vid i love the drum editor in cubase! the drum editor works great with drum maps for external drum machines too. i set up a template for my tr626 and its much nicer doing drums in the drum editor. i also love being able to dissolve midi events to split to seperate tracks in cubase , makes adding extra layers super easy :)
@@DomSigalas thanks im completely new in cubase. The head symbols in drum mapping.. are they suppose to Replace the red dots? Because they dont :) or are they for something else?
Thanks Dom. Great video. I use the drum editor but I have yet to find an easy way of selecting specific notes - for example I often want to select alternate high hat hits to have alternating velocity. Is there any way to do this apart from drawing the velocities in manually.
Thank Dom for all you do! We very appreciate you! I got a question that's not related to this video about cubase 12 That will be out next year. I've seen a lot of changes that will be made. I am very very concerned! I saw that they were talking about getting rid of the usb elicenser, that's a big concern of mine. Can you give us more details about that?? And also the grace period that they were talking about too please and thank you!
Oh Wow!! The "Show drum sounds in use by instrument" resolves such an obvious annoyance that I've had for years. So much exciting info here. Sometimes we weekend warriors have such limited time that we say "I'll search for a solution later" and then don't get to it for quite some time.
I never knew about the independent track loop! 🤯😱 I also never used the drum editor because something about those little diamonds didn't feel right with me-idk why🤣 I'm going to use it all the time now that I knowI can switch it to the bar mode
The drum editor is what sets Cubase apart for me
For drums, Cubase is king 🤴
30+ year Cubase "expert" and yet you still manage to show me something new! Thanks Dom!

You literally added years to my life! Thank you 🙏🏼 😂
The cycle loop is super useful when programming drums against a longer existing section.
Although some say I'm a living manual of Cubase I love your hints and ideas. I can absolutely recommend your channel to all cubase user. Thx.

I find the lack of detail and ability to reference in the Cubase manual disturbing.
And it s nice that you can use Squares!! It look very nice with squares in pattern
This is amazing, Dom! Drum programming is the main roadblock in my Cubase workflow, this will help me out A LOT
Well Dom you've just halved the time it takes me to program drums. Thank you AGAIN!!!
I'm a Cubasis user on iPad, but I watch Dom's Cubase videos anyway. I wish Steinberg would give Cubasis a drum editor.
That was an eye-opener Dom. So many features that were hidden under the "skins" 🙂

Thanks Dom. I see the excitement on your face☺ I am a great fan of the drum editor in cubase. Thanks for sharing.
One of the reasons I'm switching to Cubase for writing is the drum editor. Absolutely awesome. Thanks for the great vid!
My favourite drum editor video!Lost count of the number of times I said “no way!” with a smile on my face 🤯☺️ So helpful thank you!
Super useful tips & more often overlooked at all times.. Thanks loads Dom... 👍🤓
lol thank you dom!! ;-) so many years using only the piano roll or maschine, today you open my eyes :-)
Dom, your videos are full of so much information. Every time I watch I feel like I’ve moved steps ahead. I just wanted to thank you here. ❤😊
Every time I watch you, Dom, I feel like I just got a new version of Cubase 😊. Thank you!
Hahaha thank you Peter!
I cant believe this. Ive been using Cubase for almost two decades. Now that my MIDI Keyboard is having trouble connecting, I had to program my drums this way. WOW all this time I probably could have saved some time by programing my drums, instead of playing them out.

Dom is doing a fantastic job explaining the rudiments of cubase. Keep the videos coming Dom!
I have not used the drum editor since 2003. This is definitely going back into my workflow. Thanks, Dom!!!
Separating drum loop from standard loop is a huge!! Thank you so much Dom!
Snap from drum editor… fantastic tip! Thanks, Dom 👍🏻
I'm using this workflow with an external Roland TR-8S, and I absolutely love it. It's so tight and so efficient. For me, it's a game changer.
Again useful information from a superb communicator. If I had teachers like Dom back at school I wouldnt be where I am. LOL

I just got Cubase for making psytrance. This was quite valuable information. Thanks for sharing it.
U are the king of cubase 🥳 love it🧨💥
Great video, thanks! I did not know the drum editor loop trick. Cool!
Thank you Dom 😊
As usual, very useful video!
Thank you Dom. I love drum editor. I think it gives you a more efficient view of the instrument.
Awesome Dom! Thank you again I’ve been using key edit for years, this will be fantastic now.

Nice Dom!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the tips.
Great stuff as always Dom, thanks for these videos.
I've been using the drum editor since Steinburg Pro-24. Thanks Dom!
I knew nothing about the drum editor. Thank you for opening my eyes. 🤓

Drum editor is my favorite editor for drums from Cubase5. But I did not know about snap feature! I always used the quantize presets.
Great clear and succinct, very good!
Nice video Dom !!! Thank you ;)
I always learn cool stuff Dom you Dom. Thanks so much!

great explanations!
Excellent info, thank you so much!
Respect! Great tutorial
WOW! I have just found out so many new features! Thank you Dom!!! Could you possibly share somehow your Cubase track colours please?
Lots of useful information, thanks! I’d never heard of the independent track loop! HOWEVER, this video assumes Cubase has the map for your vsti. Nice work mate!!
How cool video !!!!! Thanks Dom !!!!!
Great video man, thank you for that!!

Every fucking time, Dom! when i need some info you make a video about that topic! TY
Nice thanks for the Tipps!🤘

How did you color every drumpart?? I just get red dots.
If you go to your toolbar you will find Events Colours. Just change it from Velocity to Pitch :)

The issue with drum editor, there's not enough presets! An trust I've surfed the net everywhere and keep coming up short! Any leads?
Thanks alot
Thank you
Great, as usual! 🔥👍🏻 Nice to have you back. How did the move go?
