- The funeral home in Interval 01 of FEAR Extraction Point is one of the best areas in the whole trilogy for a crazy shootout.
This is my friend playing through that area over and over again.

This actually isn't my video. I had a friend over the other day and he pretty much hogged my PC the entire time. After a few games of Age of Empires 2 he wanted to play FEAR, seeing as it was the only shooter I had installed.
I loaded up the funeral home from Extraction Point, used console commands to increase the slow mo and unlock all weapons. Then I set it to extreme difficulty and told him to go nuts.
After a while he started recording the shootouts and editing them together. Told me I should upload it. No idea if you guys will like this, but I found it quite cool how the game keeps playing differently.

Yeah it can be easily seen it's not Rabbit playing as player in this video because player is taking hits which Rabbit never do.

I've played through every game and it's expansions (except fear 3 or course, that game is awful)and I've never seen that happen. It never ceases to amaze me.
Bingus, those dual machine pistols, along with an automatic shotgun, are weapons exclusive to the console versions of fear. The machine pistols sometimes replace the rpl smg spawns.

This game was so ahead of its time. The AI still surprises me with its intelligence even by today's standards.

I wish today's standards weren't so damn low though. If an enemy runs away from a grenade, that's considered good AI today.

its 50% good immersive ai and 50% leveldesign that the ai can use really well to make them seam more real. think the dev said something like that

people keep talking about the great AI but every time I played FEAR it was all the same. sure there were small veriables here and there but I never once saw sqwad members giving cover fire or anything other than flanking. this is FEAR for PC people are talking about rght?
@@dsandoval9396 Late comment, but I noticed it quite a lot. You get frequently pinned down by enemy fire and enemies called out all the time when they were giving support. Maybe
you're killing them too fast? Also are you playing FEAR 3? That has the worst AI.
@@odinson4184 FEAR 3 has the worst AI!? Awe man! That sucks! I was looking forward to that one too some day. (I have a POS laptop and I was going to get a better one later).
I've played 1 and 2 but I was referring to 1. I keep hearing/reading how 1 has great AI but when I play it it just seems meh. Sometimes they're easy, sometimes they're a little hard (not TOO hard) and I always play on the hardest difficulty. They flank and pin me down at times but it seems completely random and nothing to do with actual tactics. I mean, there's no clear time I have seen that they act intelligently as the times they do manage to hold me up for a while seems by coincidence because when I die/reload their tactics in the same area will seem dumb, not intelligent at all. Or when I play an area that was tough the last time around is now unchallenging and easy now.
As I said, there seems to be NO intelligence in their actions and any difficulty spike seems like random coincidence.
I'll play it again and maybe I'll pick up on it this time, I don't know.

It runs like a dream, the only performance issue I ever had was the polling rate on my Logitech mouse causing the frame rate to be locked at 30 fps
and it actually is a pretty well optimized game
maybe you have some compatibility problems? keep in mind F.E.A.R is an old game that might have problems to run in new PC's. it's weird that the base game runs fine but the expansion doesn't.

People use to benchmark this on their systems before Crysis came out... Only two years later.

took me a while to realize we're playing the exact same scene all over again and again until 3:05. testament to good game design.
Well, Fear's level design is one of its weaknesses. Office, scientific complex, abandoned house, office. All this is very depressing. However, the environment of the levels is great for shooting with enemies, because after that you forget about this drawback.
The funeral home is my favourite part of the yearly FEAR + XP runthrough.
Dynamic entry into a crowded room that isn't a contextual button press cutscene should be a more common thing in FPSs.
FEAR is probably the closest to The Raid of all first person rooty-tooty-point-and-shooties out there.

It's so cool that the AI even tries to fake their death to catch you off guard. This game is brilliantly awesome.

F. E. A. R. is seriously one of the best shooters I've ever played. My only wish is that it was as easily moddable as the classic doom games.

There *still* hasn't been a shotgun with a sound as beefy and satisfying as the one in F.E.A.R.
I remember how some reviews talked about how the game had too many repetitive environments, which coupled with it's long length (I think it was somewhere close to like 13-15 hours) made it get boring by the end. Now, I don't know about them, but there's no way this would bore me.
Reviewers had no idea how good FEAR was at the time. Everyone thought single player FPS was just going to get more creative and intelligent, especially after Half Life 2. Then CoD became massive popular for it's set pieces and fast multiplayer with sprint button, it's never been the same.
All this is due to the shooting, the game has a very pleasant shooting, plus effects such as blurring, discarding particles and others, are great for levels in enclosed spaces. But unfortunately the reviewer didn't give a fuck about it, so the game was rated with negligible ratings

This game is amazing. It shows you things in your perspective and perception firstly then it shows theirs afterwards. You can see that at 1:23. It goes like:
[slowmo] "Fuuuuuuck"
bang bang bang bang
and then the camera shows you the normal speed a "Fuck" telling you everything happened the same speed as they said "a normal "Fuck"

I fucking love Scissor Kicks. Also slide kicking dudes to wedge them into rooftop hvac units, walls, doorframes, furniture, the ceiling, assorted physics debris.
I never played extraction point but I did really love the original. I even liked 2 to a lesser degree. Currently playing FEAR 3 for the first time (almost finished) and its definitely nothing like the rest, it feels very much like a dumbed down FEAR, reminds me of how I felt about Crysis 2 compared to its original. Console style design, highly restricted. We need more shooters like the original fear being made today.

Now I'm at my 6th run and when I look back at those videos I'm like "this is terrible. what was I thinking?"

Haven't played FEAR 2 or FEAR 3, remember enjoying the old ones so much over a decade ago decided to finally install and play the newer series.
Had them deleted by the end of the day. Sometimes you just don't have time to sit and figure out where it all went wrong.

I have NEVER seen the AI to take cover lying down on the ground EVER! This is the best Single Player shooter for me. I want remake with even more modern graphics.

Weapon choice, enemy reactions to getting shot, environmental destruction to some degree, smooth movement both on players and enemy side.
This is my favorite section of any FEAR game. Also no game has a better shotgun.

2 is alright. Couple missions that standout like the school, but they ruined the shotgun and the shootouts don't feel as personal.

alanb:) Aim down sight isn't a bad thing. games should give you the option. for precise headshots, aim down sight, for everything else, running and gunning and such, the crosshair should be enough. also, you do realize in this game, many of the weapons allow you to hold a button which brings the gun right up to your eye? it's pretty much ads.
I would've watched this all the same if it was just the MP-50 Repeating Cannon every time. XD

Shotgun is op as fuck in fear, last time i did a run without using any shotguns.
