- The Point Man fights his way through scores of Replica Soldiers in the executive suites of the Armacham offices to rescue Alice Wade, in one of the best shootouts in the first person shooter, F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon).
Taking a break from Half-Life content and recently played through this game. Had an absolute blast, and in many ways, my combat style is similar to how I played through the Half-Life games. Thought it would lend itself to some great cinematic gameplay videos, so I decided to toss one up to see how you guys would like it :)

Hi everyone! Sorry for the long period of time with no uploads. Work has been CRAZY this summer and I rarely have the time to commit to making more videos. I'm taking a break from Half-Life content and recently played through this game. Had an absolute blast, and in many ways, my combat style is similar to how I played through the Half-Life games. Thought it would lend itself to some great cinematic gameplay videos, so I decided to toss one up to see how you guys would like it :) I would actually be interested in doing a full playthrough of this game at one point haha.

Ah yes, a forgotten gem. Great combat, intelligent enemies, mixed with a little bit of horror spice. Thank you for bringing this back.
No problem! It's hard to find a shooter nowadays with the level of polish in AI and gameplay like this one here for sure
honestly the BEST walkthrough content creator out there, not only extremely good at the games by using tactics, switching up weapons and avoiding taking damage, but also showing all interesting content and secrets in a natural way while being in character. I can see a lot of effort went into your half life series and it is greatly appreciated

4:22 It's funny how Alice is so mellow about being rescued and almost having given up when it must've sounded like half the building was being torn down with the office being turned into a warzone with machine guns, grenades, and particle beams going off.
I fucking love this game so much. The start up to finding Alice Wade is what I like to call, "The Gauntlet." I've already lost count on how many times I've played through that section.
I agree. That section of the offices is amazing, as was the elevator fight afterwards culminating in you losing her to Alma

If you accidentally miss several times in a shootout, then the bullets will almost imperceptibly begin to choose where to fly to. So, for example, they can choose the path to the nearest fire extinguisher, they can fly to furniture that you are not aiming at, damage the lighting in the room, all to create a spectacular picture when sparks and dust fill the room. In general, bullets do not often choose their own path, which does not cause shootouts to descend into chaos.

pretty fun game that I would replay more if it werent for all the horror stuff
The horror stuff didn't bother me after a few of the jumpscares because it became predictable, but yeah the first time through I was pretty disturbed by Alma showing up and watching you.
Am I crazy to think the HECU gunfights in Black Mesa are kind of reminiscent of FEAR's? Both feature aggressive enemy AI that's constantly pressuring you but it's not like DOOM where you're just constantly jumping around. The maps structures are very different between both games though
lmao never mind, just replayed black mesa and boy the HECU AI is oblivious to stuff happening around them a lot of the time
@@victorc8855the HECU isn't really polished on black mesa, thing which also happens with the bullsquids. they lost a lot of small details on their behaviour at the cost of nothing, since even their combat AI is worse than in the original game. if at least they cut out the small details (smelling bodies, eating) to polish more their combat it would be nice, but they didn't do that. crowbar collective focused too much on xen and forgot updating the black mesa levels to be in line with what they did for xen. they seem like two completely separate games not just by looks, but by gameplay aswell.

I haven't played Condemned but heard great things about it. But yeah, FEAR's a gem of the shooter genre for me

When you think of the millions of people who have never played this game (and the millions upon millions more yet to be born) you have to wonder at game makers' decisions not to remake/remaster their best IPs.
Imagine not putting "The Godfather" out on DVD or later on as a digital remaster at 4K, but insisting that if you want to see the movie you must buy a video tape recorder and watch it on VHS tape?
To be fair this game has aged very well. Graphically it's a bit bland in the texture department, but the lighting is still very moody and effective. Though I wouldn't mind a remaster provided they don't mess with the gameplay

No problem! Yes you can buy it from Steam or GOG. GOG is much cheaper if you just want the first game.
What do you think of FEAR 2 and FEAR 3?
Haven't played either. Watched a playthrough of FEAR 2 back in the day and didn't really interest me all that much. I also didn't love the ending
