Wonderful! as always, beautifully and articulary presented. Roll on the full T30 review! Excited, already on order over here! Thank you again, Maarten.
On closer inspection - we're baffled. There is nothing like that in our original upload, nor even anywhere near that on the final cut timeline. I'm reaching out to my youtube contact.
Hey there! Excellent review! But I still cannot decide. I want one of the two for some street photography, portraits but mainly video for filmmaking. Both have 4k, but which is better? Should I get the tx-20 or tx-30? If you have any advice I'd really appreciate the help. Thank you in advance!
Great video as always. Would love to see a section at the end with say 20 to 30 cool nice pics that you might have taken that can highlight different capabilities, maybe some video from the camera as well just for some fun.
Thanks, always nice to have your comments, appreciated. I have thought of that, but unless the images are identical and side by side, it's hard to compare - I leave that to the websites that have a consistent setup for testing, that truly reflects the capabilities. There are images in the full review.
Fantastic comparison. The way you synced up the menu actions with the audio so well was very impressive, and must have taken a long time. For me, the standout features of the X-T30 are: USB-C, Bluetooth, full face/eye tracking in video, 120 fps @ 1080p, and focus bracketing. Removal of D-pad and addition of joystick is probably a wash. You mentioned that the X-T30 is 5mm thicker, but they look very similar in your comparison photos. Where exactly does this 5mm come in?
@@MaartenHeilbron you're right it's not much, but my plan is to be able to carry it around in my pocket with the xf 27mm pancake, so it's a game of millimeters for me. Still, I think it'll work (just). Thanks again.
Thanks for the great videos I am looking to buy first " real" camera and will be mainly using it for travel and some bird / wildlife photos ( non professional) Do you think the X-20 (with possibly a telephoto lens for birding) would satisfy these goals ?
I always wonder how could you make such awesome videos unlike others ... Even covering the minute details..all the best as impressed with quality..looking forward to see doing a smartphone camera review esp exploring the manual capabilities.. considering all companies are coming with large sensors and claiming great results during launch which sometimes not real and only few are covering the actual...looking forward to have a legit review on latest models such as Huawei P30 pro/ Samsung s10+/ Honor view 20/ Huawei mate 20...
Thanks for your kind words, they are much appreciated. I've thought about reviewing smartphones but mostly feel they're not deserving of the coverage. I feel that in order for me to be interested enough in a camera to review it (I do, after all, have a limited amount of time to do this work) it should have a one-inch or larger sensor, offer complete manual control of focus and exposure, and save both RAW and JPEG files. Then my preference goes to cameras with interchangeable lenses and viewfinders. There are many devices that take photos and video - from action cameras to phones - that don't meet these criteria, and with the exception of drones, I have no plans to include them in my editorial schedule.
Hi, I'm currently looking at getting my first personal camera after using my father's for the past few years, my main utility for it would be photography (streets, landscapes and portraits) rather than video. the xt30 seems better but as I'm on a budget I was wondering if it truly was worth the price bump for what I would want to use my camera for ?
@@MaartenHeilbron what kind of lens do you recommend for those kind of activities? I expect I'll be buying a refurbished/second model and I may only get the body. By the way, I love your videos! especially the ones on the river, very relaxing and pleasing to watch :)
Very nice video. I just bought the XT-30 as a second body for the XT-3. I see it as a nice walking around camera with a small prime. I bought it as a kit with the 50mm f2. The combination was $300 off at B&H.
In a nutshell X-T30 has new sensor, improved video capabilities that I won't use, improved for portraits with the portrait bracket mode and faster eye detection. Both cameras are modern enough and designed that they can be used for years without the need for a replacement.
thank you for your usual thoughtful and thorough vid. a question: i have read that there is not enough room to use the headphone jack 2.5 -> 3.5 adapter AND the usb -> mic adaptor at the same time. (this way you can monitor the mic via the headphones ala the x-t3) the ports seem to be just too close together. could you please confirm or correct? thumbs up.
Thanks for your kind words. No, it fits, although it might depend on the size of your USB adapter and your 2.5mm adapter. There's about a millimetre of clearance between mine. The 2.5mm is too old to know how I acquired it, the USB-C adapter is a TriLink: amzn.to/2UhoCII which does seem to be slightly smaller than usual. Hope this helps.
No, that feature was added to later models. On the other hand, it may have been added to this model's firmware in a later release. No longer have the camera, so can't check for you.
Finally, I purchased the Sony A 6400 with the 18-135 lens. Thought I should add this comment. Once again I went to the store > checked Fuji XT30 and as suggested by you, I switched to the "Boost mode", unfortunately the view finder was still no match to Sony a 6400 view finder. Moreover, I found the Sony a 6400 much much more easy to hold and use with one hand. The buttons are not pressed accidentally as it was happening on XT30. And as I mentioned earlier (its not an exaggeration!), the Fuji XT 30 did disappoint me.
Its a great comparison that I was looking for. Thanks a lot. But I have a question to make. I am just starting out in travel filmmaking and photography. Do you recommend XT-20 in 2021 given that it is priced around 800USD with 18-55mm f/2.8 lens ?
If it appears to meet your needs, I would not hesitate, as I think that even though newer models may have slightly better specs for a few advanced features, the quality is nearly identical. Hope this helps.
Thanks a lot for the great video but if I told you that i'm still confusing I have nikon d5200 and I want to upgrade to x-t20 or 30 I will use it for street and travel photography. what do you think? and what lens do you recommend?
- It’s heavy and big for travel and street photography - the screen has some dead pixels which is annoying thing - it’s with me from 5 years ago and I feel like I want something new
Understood. For travel and street, you're probably fine with the X-T20, the advantages of the X-T30 are primarily in video, although focus is also improved. I like the XF16-55, but it's probably a little big for the X-T30, the XF18-55 is nice and is a better size/weight match for the camera with a minor decrease in quality - it is one of the best kit lenses provided by any manufacturer.
Hey MH, Long time no see! Hope you're doing well. I am looking to acquire a simple fujifilm camera and just doing "due diligence" before I make a purchase. I value your knowledge and presentations.
Thank you so much for your wonderful videos !! I'm just still confused as I'm still a beginner in mirrorless world and I have Fujifilm x t100 .. Would you please recommend me which camera to upgrade to??
I have the xt100 and it is a great little camera. I'm glad I didn't get the xt20 as I think the xt30 will be a nice upgrade path in the future. I like that the xt30 comes in dark silver like the xt100!
Thanks for your kind words, appreciated. I think they're about the same. Although for that kind of detail, only stills on a web site can accurately reflect the difference. dpreview does a good job on comparisons like that.
Okay, I gave in and got the X-T3. Still got a good price for the X-T2. But the 20 is a keeper for me. It's so pure and simple and somehow, I don't think the bells and whistles necessarily belong into the "little" grab-and-go camera. Let's see how long I can resist. Wish me luck.
Hello. I like to buy good portrait lens used one for Apsc body Nikon D5500. Sigma 85mm 1.4 Ex or Nikon 85mm 1.8 G or Sigma 70-200 2.8 Ex Apo. All price very similar. I already have 18-140 VR & 50mm 1.8 G lens. Please suggest
Would you please ask Nikon questions in the comments of my Nikon reviews? Why are you unhappy with the 50nmm F1.8 for portraits? That should be just about ideal. With the APS-C crop, it should be very close to 85mm. An 85mm lens will be too close, in my opinion.
Hai my name Robby I came from Indonesia, I like you review.. I do have xt20 do I need upgrade to xt30.. I never used my camera for video just only for picture.. Is it worth to upgrade..? Thank you..
Unless you've run into situations where you've missed the focus on a face because things are happening too quickly, you do not need to upgrade. It is a great camera, but if you already have the X-T20, you should already be happy with nearly all of what it offers, particularly if you're not shooting video.
Great review Maarten...the one thing that wasn't mentioned was your take on image quality differences....I suspect that the 2 MP difference in final output will be so similar as to be negligible ( this is also a great way to justify keeping my X-T20 ...;-) ..... the processor is I guess a bit better/quicker and some of the focusing probably a bit quicker with a few more options but overall for stills shooters like myself that mainly do static subjects I'm not seeing a compelling reason to upgrade...I'll probably wait a few more generations for that since I'm quite happy with the X-T20 as it is....for movie people I'm guessing it's a different story...thanks again for the comparison...
IT is definitely the focus capabilities that make the difference, but the independence between video and stills (if you are a hybrid shooter) would tip the scales for me to upgrade. Otherwise, I'm sure I'd be very happy with the X-T20. I'm not very good with side by side comparisons, particularly of image quality, I think that's had to convey in video, so I leave it to the excellent websites, like dpreview who do that kind of thing much better than I can.
i want to know is the ISO performance much better on the x-t30 than the x-t20 or is the same, or not much better ? Thats the only reason i hesitate between the two bodies !
I’m concerned that neither are “weather sealed” as the Sony A6000 is. But I don’t like the Sony line up of lenses. I’m moving from a Canon 70D and shoot mainly travel, landscape and family.....any recommendations?
There is not much to the weather sealing offered by any camera, except for a few high end models. Under normal circumstances, and with reasonable precautions, you should not have issues.
Great Review! I'm just starting to start my photography activity, not as a pro but just as a hobby. Will X-T30 be enough or should I go with the X-T3 (A bit worry on is it an overkill for me as I'm just a beginner and not aiming to become a pro)?
my question remained unanswered, shooting in 4k, is there a difference in sharpness? I knew there were a tons of differences, but im wondering about getting me a second camera as a back up and I found an XT20 for a bargain of a price, but I dont want to sacrifice image quality, can you help me with that Sr?
Hey! Im a beginner and now there is a new t30 . i want to use it for travel fotography and as hobby camera, and taking selfies by myself on a distance with landscape . The camera that i will get needs to be worth the quality and price so i dont need to buy a better one later. So coudn’t decide. What should i do t30, t100 or for the older version t20 or a whole other model? Thankyouu :)
Well, honestly, there will always be a better one later. However, at the moment, the X-T30 is an excellent choice for travel and hobby. It has a top of the line focus system (although it doesn't have a way to select an object to track, while you will find in the Sony A6400). Video is first rate, but limited by time limits and overheating. Physical controls and extensive customization make it easier to use than most.
Great review Maarten..I am a hobbyist so, which one is best for me can you suggest? Iam not concern about video capability or latest image processor or faster auto focus. Just want to capture good images. Thank you!
Hi, I'm beginner shooter and want to upgrate from x-t100, is better choice to go x-t20 just for photo shooting? x-t30 is great, but I use only manual prime lenses so focus features don't need so much for higher price. Do you think is better choice x-t20 than x-t30, when I use only manual prime lenses?
It is good for video shooting. You will see more detail in my review: ruclips.net/video/seokdJwXjTs/видео.html And there are video-specific settings explained here: ruclips.net/video/WknLF_pCrbI/видео.html
Hmm... I am still not sure which one to get. If I get the X-T20 I have more money left for lenses, but if I get the X-T30 you get all these menu options, I would have to settle with a much cheaper lens though... I am not sure if I would use all the menu options since it would be my first camera.

I would like to hear your advice
The X-T30 is the better camera. You'll get used to the placement of the buttons - those kinds of comments are from people switching from other Fujifilm models. the joystick really is a big plus in my judgement.
Great video. Many thanks. It just confirmed that whilst the XT 30 has an improved specification, the XT 20 this is more than enough for me. Many thanks once again.
Hello Maarten, I am planning on buying my first camera. I will mainly use it for photography (street, landscape, portrait). The xt20 with 18-55 is currently 800 euro in my country. The xt30 with 18-55 is currently 1200 euro in my country. Is the xt30 worth the extra 400 euros? Or use the 400 euros for a wide angle lense instead Thanks a lot. Great video!

Or they can include 35mm f2 instead of 23mm....shall I get one of the prime lens and later get a used 18-55 if ever needed? Pls give your valuable advise
I am a Two year user of the X- T20 and love it. It took awhile to really be able to take advantage of its features. For worthy photos I drop into Lightroom or a simple photo editor. You can find an excellent quality used (essentially new) X-T20 for $450 without lens. From a very reputable dealer with warranty and money back guarantee. New X- T30 body is $899. As a new user I suggest the used excellent body and get two good lenses. You will notice the difference with two lenses and the X-T20 then you would with the single lens that comes with the X-T30kit. The new features are excellent but an extra zoom lens would be fun and you would be at same price as a new single l no X-T30 Kit. My humble opinion anyway. And yes excellent review.
Hi does anyone is experience some kind of flickering after replacing the lenses sometimes unusable to the point that I have to unlock and lock the lenses couple times to the X-T20 to work
@@MaartenHeilbron I'm not sure if I'm going to keep buying Fujifilm gear to what I researched quite a few people have the same problem and in some cases Fujifilm didn't find anything wrong. Maybe I should go for Sony or wait for the next Canon release and eBay my Fujifilm gear.
it's possible they're selling a customized kit? But my loaner from Fujifilm Canada didn't include one, and the manual doesn't mention it among the included accessories and parts.
Hold up, so the X-T30 doesn't get Classic Negative? Only Eterna is added? The X-E4 does get Classic Negative. And while double checking this I found out that neither X-E4 nor X-T30 get Nostalgic Negative that the expensive models get. Is Fuji seriously now only putting certain emulations on certain models instead of just across all the models with the new X-Trans sensor? That's so lame.
You are over-reacting, and are not completely correct. The GFX 100S (Bayer sensor) has Nostalgic Negative. Then, there's nothing here that you could not do easily and more effectively with any photo editor.
@@MaartenHeilbron I have the Nik Collection with great film simulations, but in my opinion the nice thing about Fuji simulations is just getting the sims straight out of camera. When I start manually editing I typically spend a couple more minutes tweaking each shot. Not a huge deal though.
@@OttosTheName ON the other hand, dropping 10K or more would be a huge deal. Give them time, there will be less expensive models with that film sim, and it may even start to appear in firmware updates.
I just thought that with previous generation of camera's they put all the film sims in all of the camera's. Apart from the budget models. (And I goofed on that GFX). Did they ever add film sims to models after release with a firmware update in the past? I thought film sims was one of the ways they try to lure you to the new models.
@@OttosTheName I could be wrong, but my sense is that it has happened. Over time they just keep adding more film sims. It's generally not about the most expensive model, it's usually just the latest. I'm always surprised at the level of passion this issue arouses.
I can’t decide between the canon 80d, lumix g85, Sony a6400, and the Fuji T X30 for 1080P video I know you probably won’t respond but if you see this please help.

Hello am from iraq Please can you Can you review the Nikon P1000 camera because I bought one of them and I want to use it correctly and correct photography ... Is this camera better or Nikon 5600
I would prefer the X-T30 over most DSLRs - primarily because of the superior focus system. While the P1000 may be interesting, its sensor is too small to be interesting to me.
What? That's the very opposite of what I see - there are an amazing selection of e-mount lenses from Sony and a wide range of third parties. The x-mount selection from Fujifilm is very good (and includes great cine lenses) but it's not the same.
Went to the Fujifilm store with cash to buy the Fujifilm xt30 but returned without it Why? 1) The electronic viewfinder is BAD...blurry and grainy. 2) There is lot of lag if you move the camera viewing through the EVF 3) Its too small for even medium sized ladies hands 4) You are bound to click on the buttons on the back accidentally. 5) The diopter correction dial is too small to use 6) It was a total disappointment for me I checked Sony A6400 and it was leaps and bound ahead of Fujifilm XT30, it will certainly be a better buy!
Thanks for the detailed note. I'm sorry to hear that you ended up disappointed. 1), 2) Turn on the boost mode 3) Both are small 4) On the X-T30, the Q button is aggravating, they've announced software fixes. However the control dial on the A6400 is also prone to accidental mis adjustment. 5) I wish Fujifilm published the number, it is marginally less (to my eye) than the A6400. 6) I'm certain this is an exaggeration.
Hi! Thank you for such a helpful review! Fujifilm cameras seem really appealing to me, because of their quality, design and usability. Right now I’m having a dilemma: invest in XT-30, but with a standard kit lens such as XC15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS or get along with its cheaper predecessor XT-20, but with a better lens. We are already in 2020, so is it still worth getting XT-20? On the other hand, while getting XT-30, is XC15-45mm lens even worth thinking about? Is 18-55mm FUJINON LENS XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS that much better? This will be my first Fujifilm camera. I’ll be shooting street, portrait and landscape photography. I’m not a professional, but I would like to learn more about photography and explore my creative skills. I haven't done video, but I’m really interested in trying. In either case I’ll upgrade my lens, maybe 4-6 months after this purchase, but I’m afraid I’ll miss out already in the beginning. In March and April, I will be traveling between Japan, Finland and Portugal, so I’d like to make the best photography recollections possible with this camera (and my level of skills of course hehe). (In the past I used Canon EOS with both standard and prime lenses. I’m not a big fan of zoom lens, I prefer prime lens which promise light sensibility, image quality, sharpness, bokeh, etc). Thank you for attention! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the good work:)
Thanks foe your kind words, and your detailed note. I would take the X-T30 for the improved focus system and other improvements. As for lenses, the XC15-45 will likely not satisfy. The 18-55 is one of the better kit lenses, but if you are considering a prime, the 23mm F2 is a favourite of most of the staff at Fujifilm Canada, which I feel is a high recommendation as they have more opportunity to play with a variety than most of us. It's also well received by reviewers. Hope this helps

Always nice to read your comments, thanks! Yes, that's an ideal combo for a walk around.
Such an excellent reviewer, thanks so much. Detailed but to the point.
Thanks, it was a pleasure to read your kind words.
In a nutshell X-T30 has new sensor, improved video capabilities that I won't use, improved for portraits with the portrait bracket mode and faster eye detection. Both cameras are modern enough and designed that they can be used for years without the need for a replacement.
Good summary, thanks.
Thanks a lot again, Maarten! Great & useful as usual
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words.
Just bought this cam + the 35mmF2 off Amazon, brand new for $1058 TOTAL. Can't wait to use it.
Nice work!
Great and informative as usual Maarten!!
Thanks for your kind words, appreciated.
thank you for your usual thoughtful and thorough vid. a question: i have read that there is not enough room to use the headphone jack 2.5 -> 3.5 adapter AND the usb -> mic adaptor at the same time.
Can you save individual WB color shifts per recipe in XT30 mark 1?
No, that feature was added to later models. On the other hand, it may have been added to this model's firmware in a later release. No longer have the camera, so can't check for you.
Love your videos Maarten! Thanks very much :)
Always a pleasure to read kind words from my viewers, thanks!
Thanks for sharing your notes.
Thanks for an excellent comparison. I have both cameras and I love them.
I appreciate your kind words, and somehow, I'm not surprised. As I continue working on the X-T30 for the review, I'm liking it more and more.

This "little" X-T30 seems really a monster
Thanks for your kind words, and I do agree.
@@MaartenHeilbron thank you sirr.
Thanks a lot for the great video but if I told you that i'm still confusing I have nikon d5200 and I want to upgrade to x-t20 or 30 I will use it for street and travel photography. what do you think? and what lens do you recommend?
What is there about the D5200 that no longer satisfies you?
- It’s heavy and big for travel and street photography
- the screen has some dead pixels which is annoying thing
- it’s with me from 5 years ago and I feel like I want something new
Thank you so much Maarten!!!
Always happy to assist and I do appreciate your kind words.
Hey MH, Long time no see! Hope you're doing well. I am looking to acquire a simple fujifilm camera and just doing "due diligence" before I make a purchase. I value your knowledge and presentations.
There is no "simple" Fujifilm camera. IN 2024, the most capable small model would be the X-S10.
Thank you so much for your wonderful videos !! I'm just still confused as I'm still a beginner in mirrorless world and I have Fujifilm x t100 .. Would you please recommend me which camera to upgrade to??
Why do you need to upgrade? What is there about the XT100 that's not meeting your needs? Did you watch this - ruclips.net/video/IqnWplwYCtA/видео.html
I have the xt100 and it is a great little camera. I'm glad I didn't get the xt20 as I think the xt30 will be a nice upgrade path in the future. I like that the xt30 comes in dark silver like the xt100!
@@mellord83 Thanks for adding your thoughts.
Wow amazing side by side. Thanks. It's a big difference in picture quality or do you think they are around the same?

This was a very useful video. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.
Wonderfully in depth walk through. Thank you very much. I am planning to upgrade from XT10, any suggestions between these two?
Both are fine, the X-T30 has numerous advantages for video and improved focus.
Thank You ver much for your advice.. I really satisfied with fuji xt20..
Always happy to help. I'd be satisfied too.
About the same.
The X-T30 is enough, and it's smaller and lighter than the X-T3.
Maarten Heilbron Thank you for the answer Mr Maarten, can you suggest a couple of lenses for traveling (portraits and landscapes) as well?
The 18-55 kit is a good flexible choice.
What about considering Xt-30 for wildlife photography?
Sure. Consider it, good idea.
my question remained unanswered, shooting in 4k, is there a difference in sharpness? I knew there were a tons of differences, but im wondering about getting me a second camera as a back up and I found an XT20 for a bargain of a price, but I dont want to sacrifice image quality, can you help me with that Sr?
I did not compare them side by side.
Hey is the processor I mean navigating the interface noticable faster on the xt30?
Not noticeably, they're both reasonably responsive.
Hi there, I know it’s a personal thing but which one would you recommend please ?
The X-T30 would be my choice. My review of the X-T50 is in progress.
Thankyou very much :)
Always happy to help.
Great review Maarten..I am a hobbyist so, which one is best for me can you suggest? Iam not concern about video capability or latest image processor or faster auto focus. Just want to capture good images. Thank you!
I was hoping the video would help you decide. But it sounds like the X-T20 would be enough for you.

x-t30 is great, but I use only manual prime lenses so focus features don't need so much for higher price.
Do you think is better choice x-t20 than x-t30, when I use only manual prime lenses?
It's not a better choice, but it is an acceptable one considering the focus features.

Hmm... I am still not sure which one to get. If I get the X-T20 I have more money left for lenses, but if I get the X-T30 you get all these menu options, I would have to settle with a much cheaper lens though... I am not sure if I would use all the menu options since it would be my first camera.

Sony a6400 & fujifilm x-t30, which is best 📷 ....,?
I hope to be able to answer that question within the next few weeks.
a6400 Body is marvelous. But X-T30 is better choice for it's wide range of lens offerings.
What? That's the very opposite of what I see - there are an amazing selection of e-mount lenses from Sony and a wide range of third parties. The x-mount selection from Fujifilm is very good (and includes great cine lenses) but it's not the same.
Different purposes. Autofocus is probably better on Sony’s but I love the picture style of the Fuji film cameras
Went to the Fujifilm store with cash to buy the Fujifilm xt30 but returned without it
Why?
1) The electronic viewfinder is BAD...blurry and grainy.
2) There is lot of lag if you move the camera viewing through the EVF
3) Its too small for even medium sized ladies hands
4) You are bound to click on the buttons on the back accidentally.
5) The diopter correction dial is too small to use
6) It was a total disappointment for me
I checked Sony A6400 and it was leaps and bound ahead of Fujifilm XT30, it will certainly be a better buy!
Thanks for the detailed note. I'm sorry to hear that you ended up disappointed.
1), 2) Turn on the boost mode
3) Both are small
4) On the X-T30, the Q button is aggravating, they've announced software fixes. However the control dial on the A6400 is also prone to accidental mis adjustment.
5) I wish Fujifilm published the number, it is marginally less (to my eye) than the A6400.
6) I'm certain this is an exaggeration.

I don't know which one to choose for 4k video, x-t20 or x-t200. I don't know where to check a comparison between the two?Would you be willing to help me please?
The X-T200 is not a serious contender for video.
@@MaartenHeilbron why is that? I saw awesome 4k footage recorded with it.
@@encapsulatio It's video capabilities are severely limited and it overheats much too quickly.
If only Fujifilm didn’t take the joint stick away from the front,I’d buy it this second
Luckily, there are other cameras to choose from.
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers! Always nice to know my work is appreciated.
