Awesome review! I feel like Maarten is a combination of Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross, but with a ton of great knowledge about cameras. The videos are just super enjoyable to watch, even if one isn't interested in the camera in question. Clearly a lot of hard work and passion goes into these - great stuff!
After your reviews one is often tempted to rush-out and acquire the reviewed item! Another comprehensive review MH. Your videos are a service to the picture making world, thank you.
This is the best XT-30 Review/Tutorial available on RUclips! Thank you Maarten for teaching me things about the camera I didn't even realize existed in the last 3 months of usage!
I’m deciding which mirrorless to buy and the XT30 seems to be coming out on top. I’m watching many reviews of this - and other - cameras but one thing is decided; this is without doubt the best camera review I’ve seen.👍🏻
Great video mate. I absolutely agree Fujifilm needs to step up their game on recording time (and battery time at the same time). I’m using GH5 mostly because it’s been the only camera that can record continuously for as long as I need. 4K HEVC 10-bit 3 hour shoot? No problem. I hope Fujifilm will do it too.
WOW just came across your review after trawling thro many others not giving anything like the detail you do. I am thinking of changing from Nikon D5500 to this one, well this has convinced me.Will be getting one when the current health issues subside. Many thanks for this review you have a natural aptitude for reviews.Just searched for my old fuji finepix f30 6.3 mega pixels which was last used 2012 turned it on and whoosh came to life with two thirds battery life (fuji quality).
2:52 oooh super edgy photo! haha. I really appreciate your thorough content. It seems that the internet has been unexpectedly quiet about the X-T30 since its release. As a new owner myself, I was feeling a little lonely! Thanks for your hard work
You are fantastic teacher and explainer. You have made me love my Fujifilm xt30 even more. Thank you for your incredible effort in making this incredible educational video.
the Q button location is why im sticking to the xt20 ... while testing the XT30, i kept pressing Q accidentally too, joystick feels a tad low for thumb too
Great vedio I did buy this camera 📷 as well. I have questions .. in my sony a7m3 my photos every day come in sprate folder 📂 yesterday photo not same today's folder but the fuji xt30 all the photos come in one folder last week last month today all of them in one how can I make it like the sony a7 mark3. Thanks sir
Great video. Would you go for this newer xt30 or the older xt-2 as an enthusiast “family” hybrid camera? I know there’s no right or wrong, but where would people lean and why?
First time I’ve seen someone show how to manage face selection. The X-T30 may unseat my X-E3 as my X-T2 backup/grab and go camera. Thank you. Excellent review.
Another outstanding review and guide by Maarten who is the pre-eminent expert in this field, not just on RUclips but the entire internet. Thank you for such a brilliant review. One thing I don't quite understand is the current concern by many about video clip longevity. I don't recall seeing a single YT video, or feature film, past or present, that has a single clip or scene on one camera that is more than a couple of minutes long, and even that is unusual. With such sophisticated editing software nowadays, I cannot see that ten minutes at 4k or any other mode is a problem, and I would rather this prevented heat build up than possibly over-heating the sensor. The average RUclips clip is barely more than a few seconds before cutting to another scene!
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I assume you don't shoot much video. First, it's not always about a single take/clip - although mine do get kind of long - ruclips.net/video/kCG0QBRFEpE/видео.html It's about continuous recording, which if you've set up the camera and are doing a bunch of takes, it would be nice not to have to start and stop continuously. it's also about recording performances - juggling a concert recording is complicated, trying to get the right break between sections/songs to record an entire set. But the real problem is that it's arbitrary and unnecessary.
What a fantastic review thank you!!! 🥰 This camera has so many features in such a small body. I got it yesterday and I’m already in love with it. I’ll be using it mostly for video, hopefully it doesn’t overheat all the time and won’t let me work. Next year I’m planning on getting the xt4 or the xt5 as my main camera, but I think this is a perfect camera to give the first steps into the professional video market. Thanks again for your knowledge, you really know your game!!
excellent review as always Maarten - thank you. It really does make you wonder where Fuji can go next at this price point though. Only good for us users I guess :-)
Great video Maarten. Thanks. I am getting my first camera mostly for the stills. Confused between X-t30 and 80D. The only thing which is stopping me to get X-t30 is 80d looks more robust. Please guide.
Thank you for this great in-depth Review!. I am still not sure if I should go with the xt30 18-55 + an additional lens 35mm for example (ore just one great lens) Or the Xt3 +18-55 - I will be using it with the Mavic mini drone and GoPro hero 7 black. Mainly for travel + Street photography & video . I am not that expert when it comes video making but want to start working on creating travel videos and instagram videos. which one would you recommend. is the only 30fps in video and not weather sealed really a down side? (Also less manual buttons (iso/shutter) compared to Xt3. Thanks
Excellent review! actually much more than a review! just like a full lecture on this camera needed by an amateur to an expert photographer who's gonna get to the Fujifilm system. It's so very informative that I need to watch it again and again while going through all my settings on the camera. Thanks a lot! :)
Thank you once again for a great review. You covered everything about this camera, (as far as I know!). The decision between T30 and T3 just got harder!!! Thanks again,
Yes, that's a tough decision, at least it's not based on quality and functionality. However, if you're a video shooter - the 10 minute time limit and other factors would push me to the X-T3.
Should I, or shouldn't I make the decision and purchase this camera? Your excellent video suggests that I should but strangely I am somewhat wedded to my X-T10 and X-T2. My purchases have concentrated on additional glass and only last week I picked up my Fujinon XF 50-140mm lens. After the shock of that expenditure I will pause for a while and then revisit the idea of the X-T30, but thank you for this thoughtful and highly informative video.
Thanks. Maarten. I learned a number of things that I didn't know before. Also, I love your auto ISO settings. One other comment, you went so fast that in certain places on the video that it was hard to follow. That said, my experience of using the camera is dramatically improved since watching your video. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the kind words, always nice to know I've provided useful information. Would you mind letting me know which bit went too fast? RUclips does provide both subtitles and a tool to play at a slower speed if that helps.
@@MaartenHeilbron I re-watched the video with sub-titles and the second time was the charm. I'm much more comfortable with the T30 and understand even more. Here are a few of the areas that left me with questions and comments. 1. Can you do a video on how you personally set up your custom settings? 2. Do you think that a future update from Fuji will make the touchpad swipes more reliable? Do you use them? 3. How exactly is DOF Preview used? Couldn't figure it out. 4. Do you recommend RAW compressed or uncompressed? Do the additional pixels in the uncompressed files make a difference and how? 5. I have been using your Auto ISO settings. When using the Auto 1 for sunny shots, the camera seems to shoot at around 300 ISO. Is there benefit to just use 160 on sunny days? I'm sure I have more but that's enough to bother you with. Thanks so much. I made a quantum leap in tuning this camera to my needs after watching your video twice.
1) That is on my to-do list, but the X-T20 is about the same ... ruclips.net/video/WknLF_pCrbI/видео.html 2) I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software thing - yes, I do for ISO and film sim. They not 100% but enough to be usable. 3) By default, the aperture is wide open to compose/focus. To see a preview, assign it to a button, then press it to have the aperture closed to the selected setting. This shows the actual depth of field at the aperture. 4) Either is fine, I'm sure you'll find people happy to argue the find details, but I'm not fussed about those issues. On the other hand, my mantra is go big - so I generally use uncompressed. 5) There might be some. I get it to use 160, so not sure ... what's your DR setting? Hope this helps, Maarten
My favorite extended camera reviewer! Almost feels like you’re telling a bedtime story for kids (tech fanatics figuratively) and get us to dream about it! ^_^
Excellent review! I'm about to buy a new camera. However, my budget is tidy. I can get the xt30. Nevertheless, this camera is not weather sealed and I'm planning to use it as a travel camera... I'm not planning to take photos under the rain but I probably do it on the beach or close to waterfalls.. Does the xt3 really worth the money for that feature? or should I get the xt30? Thank you!
If you are prepared to be careful - for example, it may get a little spray at a waterfall, but it's not going to get soaked - I would not worry about weather sealing. I'm sure that it will be fine, however, if that's the rationale you need to step up to the X-T3, please don't let me stop you.
As ever, superb review! Whithout question. Always clearly Professionaly scripted and delivered. Thank you for all your hard work and excellent attention to detain. Hugely appreciated Maarten.
Thank you. Another really helpful video. I bought the camera and really like it. I'm slowly teaching my thumb not to hit the Q button on the thumb rest, but I feel strongly that Fuji got this one wrong. Losing four programmable buttons in favour of touchscreen swipes is also troublesome, as I'm no fan of touchscreens, but perhaps I just need to adapt. The rest is fantastic. I'm curious to get your views on how it compares with the Sony A6400 too...
Always nice to read kind words from my viewers, thanks. Yes, that feels like a miss to me too. The comparison is next week's posts (if I can get them finished).
Great review as usual. I was wondering if I am using a 3rd party lens, such as a Rokinon that has a Fuji X mount, will I still be able to take advantage of all the built in focus assist features? The Rokinon I am thinking about getting is the 100 mm f2.8 macro. As I am sure you know, it’s a fully manual lens so I was concerned about those very important features when using manual focusing. Thank you so much!
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. Not all third party x-mount lenses are auto (either focus or exposure) capable. Not all of the focus features will work as they do with native lenses, but you will still be able to use the expanded view (activated manually).
Maarten Heilbron Thanks! I did purchase the xt30 and thev35mm f2. I am not crazy about the ergonomics but the IQ is phenomenal! I used to own the xt10 and I seem to remember the grip being slightly better. It’s small but quite substantial, a lot “ heavier” than you might think. There is a lot to learn about this mighty beast but I am excited to have finally found something I am happy with. Have a great weekend.
If you use one of the self-timer settings (2 or 10 second delays) when the drive mode dial is set to CH or CL, the camera will take 5 images when the timer is complete.
While the constant release of new models, the used market is full of great values, as long as the camera hasn't been abused. And yes, always prefer lenses over bodies.
Your reviews are excellent as always. Any difference for still photography between xt30 vs xt20? Also kit lens 15-45 mm vs 18-55 mm? This is for a beginner to intermediate level photographer shopping for his first compact interchangeable lens camera for travel.
Excellent review!! I have a question regarding the evf when using with glasses. I have read few other reviews that its evf is not very good when wearing glasses. What's your view on this?? I hope you reply. 🙂
Thank you for your kind words. To be honest, I usually slide my glasses up, and adjust the diopter to suit my prescription. When shooting with glasses, particularly on a viewfinder that provides a larger image may limit the amount of the screen that you see. This is not specific to this camera, or to Fujifilm EVFs. I recommend that you visit your local dealer to try it out.
Great video! Would you recommend it over the X-T20 for an enthusiast who shoots mostly stills (street, portraits, travel)? Prices have gone down on the X-T20 and I'm not sure the X-T30 is worth the extra $$ for the same/slightly better image quality...
Thanks for the review i am looking between this camera or xh1. Is this camera easy to hold or bit small? Is it good for low light? Will it work well with 18 55 f2.8 or 50-140? Hope you can help thanks. Ps have you done a video on the different types of shutters for beginners?
Only you can tell if the camera suits your hand. Go to a camera store and try them out. Either works equally well with those lenses (although for the X-H1 I'd recommend the 16-55 F2.8. I have not done a video on different types of shutter. Nearly all cameras use focal plane, the leaf shutter is a very rare type now.
Thank you for such a thorough review. The xt30 is an ideal size for me and has all the video specs I desire. I can work well within the ten minute limit, but I’m afraid of becoming frustrated with the overheating factor. If I’m recording a lot of video back to back, I’m thinking the xt3 might be more appropriate. Do you have any thoughts on this?
Your reviews are FANTASTIC! I love the amount of detail you include. Thank you so much! Any chance you can tell just your closest 70,000 friends which way you'd lean between the a6400 and the X-T30? I have an X-T30 that I'm considering returning (it has to be returned by 4/21) because I'm not 100% satisfied with it. I shoot all jpeg, mostly pictures of my family and pets. Probably 75% of the pics are indoors in less than perfect lighting (i.e. regular indoor lighting). I've found the Fuji's Face Detect can be spotty in indoor lighting, when the subject is wearing glasses or a hat (even outside), and when there is more than one face or obstructions. I'm also frustrated by the Q button. However, the color I'm getting when I have the focus correct is fantastic and the AWB is always spot on (even in tricky lighting conditions). I'm considering the a6400 because of how amazing the AF is on it (based on your review and others and playing around with it in Best Buy), but my previous camera was a Sony NEX 5R, and I was never happy with the White Balance or jpeg colors. I played with an a6000 and also didn't like the jpeg colors/AWB with that. Regarding lenses, I see pluses and minuses with both systems - I think Sony has one of the best all in one travel zooms in their 18-135, but Fuji has better APS-C primes in ranges I'd use (I love the 27mmF2.8; I can't find a good Sony equivalent). Thanks!
Good questions, and it's clearly a decision that lots of photographers are considering. Luckily, I'm just finishing my very detailed comparison (already over 45 minutes of material) that I hope to post early next week. Can you hold on?
Thank you so much for this fantastic review! Just one question: Does the recording limit in video mode also affect the use of the X-T30 for streaming oder video conferencing? Or can I record to a external device without time limit? Thank you!
The best review I´ve ever seen. It forced me to make multiple loud WOWs :-D and now I'm wondering, why I'm still using D750 when its so outdated related to features I just dreamed about
Sorry for the length of this! I've been watching your videos and find them straight-forward and thorough, so thank you! I have been a Sony user for over 15 years, have loved my A65V DSLR but moved to mirrorless because of shoulder and back problems (I need a lighter camera). I ended up with the A6000 a couple years ago. While it's a great portrait camera with the prime lens I got, I was only able to afford the kit zoom and it just isn't doing it for me. I do a lot of nature photos and action photos of my dogs, so I need a good length lens. Rather than get the A6400, where I'd have to buy a new lens anyway, I decided I would jump into the Fuji world. The X-T30 is in my price range and I can get it, a prime and telephoto lens for less than just the lens for the Sony. My question is, will the Fuji 100-400mm overpower the X-T30 and cause a great deal of imbalance? Thank you!
I'm sorry the video is so long too. Thanks for your kind words, they are appreciated. Why would you have to buy a new lens with the A6400? All Sony (and third party) e mount lenses are compatible. All long lenses overpower cameras - that's why they have tripod mounts.
@@MaartenHeilbron To answer your question about the A6400, the telephoto lens that came with the A6000 kit won't work for my needs. What I was trying to articulate was that I wanted to upgrade, but since I'd need a new lens anyway, I might as well change the entire kit and get a Fuji. I tend to take photos on the fly, and have physical limitations, so I tend not to bring a tripod. Thanks for your response.
I’m really leaning towards upgrading my XT20 to the XT30 just for the eye AF in continuous mode. As I take pictures of my kids mainly I think it will be invaluable.
hi, I just got this camera. I was wondering...which adapter do you use for the headphones? I have one from Google, but it does not work (missing the dac part I think). Does it work directly with usb c headphones, like the ones that come with Samsung phones? Thank you very much. Great video, it's been lots of help
Great review as always! Just got this camera and am really happy with it. Just one thing.. I really wish Fujifilm would allow raw capture when using the auto mode!!!
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words. Agreed, it is an unnecessary limitation. On the other hand, man up - what would you lose by shooting in P with AutoISO?
Excellent idea! So I tried it and the camera uses the same settings... thanks Maarten! If you ever do get to Bisbee Arizona let me know and I will let you know my favorite photo spots!
Maarten Great video! I'm just about to pull the trigger on this camera. One question please. You have a link for the "Trulink USB C Headphone adapter" However the link is a dead end at Amazon. I'd like to purchase a cable that works with this camera. Would you kindly post other suggestions or where the cable is available? Thank you for the great videos and your time!
Thanks for letting me know, I've now removed it. And thanks for your kind words, they're always appreciated. I'm hesitant to recommend another, as the first cable I purchased didn't work at all, so I'm not really confident recommending a brand I don't know. Maybe the Amazon basics is safe to try?
As always, a thorough and informative review. You are such a nice guy to respond to all of the comments. Most people don't do that. Is there a recommendation you could make regarding a quality 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter for the microphone port? Thanks so much!
A pleasure to read your kind words. There are lots, here's a non-affiliate link to one I would judge to be reputable: www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=33044
First off, love your reviews and content, always fantastic!!! :) Second, researching for my first camera, only used my smartphone. I was looking at a Sony a6400 vs Canon m50 vs Fuji xt30. I'm more concerned about stills for now, as video I'll start learning once I know still photography more. I know each brand has advantages over the other, but which would you recommend as a first-time beginners camera just coming from a smartphone, that would allow me to learn how to take photos the best? I would primarily shoot jpegs for now as I don't know how to edit/process images yet, but I'm sure that will come later on.
All three are good choices, as for making a decision between the X-T30 and A6400, you should watch my comparison of the two. ruclips.net/video/QUUZHxEPFuw/видео.html
Hi Maarten, just stumbled on this video - really comprehensive thank you so much. I’ve got an xt3 and I’m looking for another body for video and street photography in mixed climate edinburgh. With the xh1 going as cheaply second hand with battery pack as this brand new, what would you recommend?
@@MaartenHeilbron ah the second hand deal is gone! closest i can find is the battery grip and xh1 for £150 more than the base xt-30. Do you think the x-h1 would still be a good deal as a second body to the xt-3 at that much over the xt-30? I suppose value is a subjective thing, but i have only handled both bodies and i dont mind the size of either. Thanks again!
Is all-i compression offered in xt30? What are the data rate option for 4k 24fps and 1080p 24fps & 60fps & 120fps...? Just comparing it to xt3. Because in any case external recorder is needed for 10bit 4:2:2
Dear Maarten, I am looking for a solid travel camera for both pic and video. I am hesitating between Olympus E-M10 Mark III, M5 Mark II and PEN F-- for budget reasons, X-T30 is out of the list. Which do you consider as the best all-rounder? Thank you, Ed
Hi Maarten - I have just discovered your channel here and have been doing quite a bit of research on making a camera purchase. I come from a film / analog background so I find the direct dial aspect of Fuji my preference. I viewed both T30 and your S10 review as well. I'm familiar with the PASM dial but I'm thinking from reviewing this video that the T30 ll is more direct dial friendly vs Menu search / setting of the S10? I had a T20 previously and was happy with it (except that the shallow grip). I don't do video. Am I headed the right direction?
While we must each choose our own path, I think you are making the right judgement in making the distinction between PASM and Fujifilm's direct operation. Thanks for your kind words.
I’m very overwhelmed on a decision- I’m looking to trade in my Canon 70D but unsure to get the XT30 or XT3. Your videos have me leaning more towards XT3 but not sure. I do more stills than video (street, travel, dog, family)
I would suggest that you're leaning in the right direction. However, if you are only concerned about stills, consider the slightly larger but better configured X-H1. The X-T30 is an excellent choice and would be recommended if size and weight are issues for you.
Maarten Heilbron thanks for the reply! after seeing various videos about the XH1 I kinda eliminated it and leaning strong for the XT3. do you think as a beginner the XT3 will be rather simple to learn?
@@elizabethalvite IN 2019 there are no cameras that are simple to learn. However, the X-T3 has enough automated modes for exposure and focus to manage with a few basics, and the controls are physical which makes them easy to use.
Maarten Heilbron agreed! i’m looking for a used model on ebay, otherwise going to keep scouting for a good deal. any suggestions where to buy used cameras? thanks much again - found your channel this weekend and can’t be happier. your reviews and videos are amazingly thought out. thank you
@@elizabethalvite I have no buying advice, other than to visit one or more of your local dealers - there's nearly always one in town who handles used equipment. Of course, there are all the regular on-line sources - which are likely different where you are from those I find in Toronto. And thanks very much for your kind words, they are appreciated.
Hi Maarten, thanks for the solid review. I was deciding between the XT-30 and the Sony A7ii. I like to shoot landscapes and portraits. Would you have any recommendation?
Either is a good choice, the Sony's larger sensor might help, but unless you're also buying a G-Master lens, the overall Fujifilm package will provide similar overall quality at a lower price
Hi! XT30 does not allow saving different Auto WB shifts (Red & Blue shift) per custom preset - you need to share the one allowed Auto WB shift you set. XE4, XPRO3, XT4 allow that. Do you know if XT30 II has this feature enabled?
Hey Maarteen! You said you prefer the 16-55mm for video. How is it going with no ois? I am thinking about getting a non ois prime lens for video and i have a gimbal but i am really not sure about that. It looks pretty bad handheld as i saw. I am concerned if a gimbal can handle that well
I'm not sure which gimbal you're planning to get, but I'm very pleased with the footage using the Ronin S. My feeling is that there isn't a camera that has in body stabilization that's suitable for video, so if you need steady footage you need a tripod or a gimbal. Even then, it will take you some familiarization and customization to achieve suitable performance.
Hello maarten, hope you're doing well and your family. I was searching for my first camera and did found a new fujifilm xt30 + 18-55mm at 860 US$ (local store in Morocco), and in Amazon 1299$. In your opinion should i buy it or purchase an old mirrorless camera to practice first? Your video's are so detailed and helpful for beginners and pros. Stay safe.
Unless you're unsure about your interest in photography, you can certainly use the X-T30 to practice. Most of us are still practicing - there's always something to learn and another feature to try.
@@MaartenHeilbron im sur of my interest in photography, already did save money just to purchase a camera but still hesitate in which camera i should buy. Thanks for reply ='3
I currently have an XT3 and XT20 and used for my event photography. I'm planning to switch my XT20 into XT30, would you recommend this or should I switch it to an XT2? The auto focus improvement is so tempting and also the dynamic range of the XT30.
Hi, you mentioned that fuji doesn’t have a tracking focus object to follow at the moment, so the past, has this changed on an update ? Im a sony user looking into fuji. Thanks
@@MaartenHeilbron Sorry for asking separately sir, but can I control/change audio levels as well while recording a video on x-t30? Thanks is advance again.
I'm trying to decide whether I should buy the X-T30 or the X-T2 with grip. In my country, if you buy them used, they are identical in prices. If you were to be in my shoes, what would you choose, Mr. Heilbron. Thank you so much for reading my comment!!!
I'd take the X-T2. It's a nice camera with its physical controls, it's a nice partner for my favourite Fujifilm lens (XF16-55) and with the grip, it's an amazing video camera. While focus has improved, for me that's not a show-stopper.
I think I'd go for the X-T2 with grip too, I everything aside, I think I love the way it looks and feels. Again, thank you very much for the advice, Mr. Heilbron. I wish you have a wonderful day!!!
the best X-T30 review!

You are fantastic teacher and explainer. You have made me love my Fujifilm xt30 even more. Thank you for your incredible effort in making this incredible educational video.
Wow, thank you! A pleasure to read your kind words.
I know that I mentioned in the past that I’m very happy with my X-T2, but if Maarten uploads a video, I’m watching it. Great work.
Thanks for watching, and your kind words. There would only be a few specific reasons to upgrade from the X-T2.
Wow...not only on the XT30 but a video that does justice to cover all the functionalities! Good stuff...
Thanks, always a pleasure to hear from a viewer who's enjoyed my videos.
the Q button location is why im sticking to the xt20 ... while testing the XT30, i kept pressing Q accidentally too, joystick feels a tad low for thumb too
Agreed, I just keep activating it accidentally and I can't seem to unlearn this behaviour.
Thanks sir
Thanks for the kind words. The Fujifilm X-T30 does not have this option. I'd suggest you contact them and suggest this, as it's a good idea.
Just got my X-T30 and 18-55 F2.8-4 lens in the mail and this video was SO very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks! Always nice to hear that my videos are appreciated.
Great video. Would you go for this newer xt30 or the older xt-2 as an enthusiast “family” hybrid camera? I know there’s no right or wrong, but where would people lean and why?
Thanks for your kind words.
I'd probably take the X-T30 - better focus, smaller profile.
First time I’ve seen someone show how to manage face selection. The X-T30 may unseat my X-E3 as my X-T2 backup/grab and go camera. Thank you. Excellent review.
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, thank you.
First, it's not always about a single take/clip - although mine do get kind of long - ruclips.net/video/kCG0QBRFEpE/видео.html
It's about continuous recording, which if you've set up the camera and are doing a bunch of takes, it would be nice not to have to start and stop continuously. it's also about recording performances - juggling a concert recording is complicated, trying to get the right break between sections/songs to record an entire set.
But the real problem is that it's arbitrary and unnecessary.
What a fantastic review thank you!!! 🥰
This camera has so many features in such a small body.
Thank you for the kind words, so glad to hear you enjoyed the video and appreciate your new camera!
excellent review as always Maarten - thank you.
It really does make you wonder where Fuji can go next at this price point though. Only good for us users I guess :-)
Thanks for the kind words - yes, things just keep getting better for photographers.
Great video Maarten. Thanks.
I am getting my first camera mostly for the stills. Confused between X-t30 and 80D. The only thing which is stopping me to get X-t30 is 80d looks more robust. Please guide.
I'm sure that the construction of the X-T30 is equal or superior to the 80D.
@@MaartenHeilbron Ok. And lense should i go with 18-55 f2.8 kit lens or 18-135 kit lens?
@@amanvsingh1 That depends a great deal on what you intend to shoot. My preference (and the lens I use most) is the 16-55.
@@MaartenHeilbron well more looking for a travel lens.
@@amanvsingh1 That is the primary lens I use when travelling.
Great review. I really like this camera, especially its compact size. But I hear that the viewfinder is less than stellar.
There are better viewfinders, but I didn't have any issues. The issue I have is that the refresh rates slows quickly while you're not shooting.
Very thorough review as always!
It would be nice if you did comparison of video quality among popular cameras.
Thanks, a pleasure to read your kind words. Good suggestion, but sounds complicated.
Excellent review, was contemplating to sell my Fuji X100S and to get the X-T30 and your review helped me to make the decision to make the change.
It's always nice to know that the information I've provided is helpful, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thanks
I appreciate your kind words. The X-T3 is the better camera, particularly for video. The issues you mention should not be obstacles.
Excellent review! actually much more than a review! just like a full lecture on this camera needed by an amateur to an expert photographer who's gonna get to the Fujifilm system. It's so very informative that I need to watch it again and again while going through all my settings on the camera. Thanks a lot! :)
It's always a pleasure to read kind words from a photographer who's been helped by my videos. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks for putting in the effort to put contents, Martin.
Comments like your kind words make it worthwhile, thanks.
Always nice to know I've provided useful information that helps with your decision, thanks for commenting.
There's actually a grip add-on that you can put on the xt30 to make it feel more like the xt3
That's a good solution, but.
You are my favorite reviewer. Thank you for sharing your time
Thank you for your kind words, they are appreciated.
You made buy one ... just got mine yesterday.... learning time now. Will update soon .... thank you 🙏 once again Sir.
I'm sorry to learn I have the power to make anyone buy something. I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks.
@@MaartenHeilbron I'll watch again at slower speed and let you know what bit went too fast.
Thank you, while my goal is to not waste the viewer's time, I would like to know if I'm over-doing it.
1) That is on my to-do list, but the X-T20 is about the same ... ruclips.net/video/WknLF_pCrbI/видео.html
2) I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software thing - yes, I do for ISO and film sim.
Hope this helps,
Maarten
My favorite extended camera reviewer! Almost feels like you’re telling a bedtime story for kids (tech fanatics figuratively) and get us to dream about it! ^_^
That's very kind, thanks for taking the time to comment.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you for the advise!! I may get it tomorrow then! :D

As ever, superb review! Whithout question. Always clearly Professionaly scripted and delivered. Thank you for all your hard work and excellent attention to detain. Hugely appreciated Maarten.
As always, a pleasure to read your kind words, thanks for commenting.
Amazing. Every detail & features explained. Thanks for the video!
Always nice to read that my videos are useful and appreciated, thanks!
Okay this review is NEXT LEVEL !! Really nice work thanks a lot
Wow! Thanks, a pleasure to read your kind words.
@@pretenditsok242 Thank you for your kind words, always appreciated. Glad to hear you're enjoying your new camera.
At 16:25 can explain more of the easter egg function thanks.
If you use one of the self-timer settings (2 or 10 second delays) when the drive mode dial is set to CH or CL, the camera will take 5 images when the timer is complete.
I keep coming back to this camera as the one that ticks all the right boxes. Tempting. Despite my tendency to buy used cameras only.
I know, very tempting.
I get the used camera tendency, with sellers and manufacturers warranty, used is the way to go. Use the saved funds for glass, right!
Here's the difference: ruclips.net/video/91UPAbENtKQ/видео.html
The 18-55 is a much nicer lens, one of the few "kit" lenses that I find worthwhile.
Maarten Heilbron Thannk U!
You probably should not make the decision based on image quality, rather about other features like focus and video.
My head is going to explode with all this info. But I love it and thank you. I'm planning to buy this camera next week and now even more excited.
I hope your insurance plan covers explosions! Thanks for the kind words, appreciated.
Another great video, keep it up they are appreciated. Congrats on reaching 70k as well.
I always appreciate your kind words - thanks for recognizing the new milestone.
Thanks, you make the best reviews! I'm thinking this will be my next camera.
That's very kind, it's a good choice as a next or first camera.
I agree, the X-T3 would be more appropriate.
Thanks for your video, so helpful.
The focus are exactly the same in terms of velocity and accuracy with the xt3?
Thanks!
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, thanks. I don't have the tools to measure precisely, but I felt that they are.
Love your review! Taking a closer look at the xt30 to replace my d7100!! Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful! Always nice to read kind words from my viewers.
Thank you!
Yes, you can output to an external device without limit, as long as power is available.
The best review I´ve ever seen. It forced me to make multiple loud WOWs :-D and now I'm wondering, why I'm still using D750 when its so outdated related to features I just dreamed about
Thanks, it's always nice to know that my videos are useful and appreciated.
What a terrific review. Thanks Maarten!

The best review I ever found! Thank you!
How kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
@@MaartenHeilbron LOL I meant sorry for the length of my comment not your video!
@@katieprobst6170 Oh, understood now.

hi, I just got this camera. I was wondering...which adapter do you use for the headphones?
I have one from Google, but it does not work (missing the dac part I think).
Does it work directly with usb c headphones, like the ones that come with Samsung phones?

The link in my purchase of an adapter from last year is no longer valid. I think as long as it says USB-C to audio you should be fine.
Glad that worked out. And thanks so much for the invite - I don't think we'll get any further south than DC this summer, but I'll keep it in mind.
Maarten Great video! I'm just about to pull the trigger on this camera. One question please. You have a link for the "Trulink USB C Headphone adapter" However the link is a dead end at Amazon.

First off, love your reviews and content, always fantastic!!! :) Second, researching for my first camera, only used my smartphone. I was looking at a Sony a6400 vs Canon m50 vs Fuji xt30. I'm more concerned about stills for now, as video I'll start learning once I know still photography more. I know each brand has advantages over the other, but which would you recommend as a first-time beginners camera just coming from a smartphone, that would allow me to learn how to take photos the best? I would primarily shoot jpegs for now as I don't know how to edit/process images yet, but I'm sure that will come later on.

Hi Maarten, just stumbled on this video - really comprehensive thank you so much. I’ve got an xt3 and I’m looking for another body for video and street photography in mixed climate edinburgh. With the xh1 going as cheaply second hand with battery pack as this brand new, what would you recommend?
It isn't as capable for video, but otherwise, I think that works.
@@MaartenHeilbron ah the second hand deal is gone! closest i can find is the battery grip and xh1 for £150 more than the base xt-30. Is all-i compression offered in xt30?
What are the data rate option for 4k 24fps and 1080p 24fps & 60fps & 120fps...?
Just comparing it to xt3.
Because in any case external recorder is needed for 10bit 4:2:2
The X-T30 offers fewer options than the X-T3. On the X-T30 data rates max to 200 Mbps, there is no HEVC codec.

Hi! XT30 does not allow saving different Auto WB shifts (Red & Blue shift) per custom preset - you need to share the one allowed Auto WB shift you set. XE4, XPRO3, XT4 allow that. Do you know if XT30 II has this feature enabled?
Sorry, no idea, it’s not a camera I have reviewed.
@@MaartenHeilbron I just verified that it does! Thank you anyway!
@@MyHandleHereAtRUclips Thanks for letting us know.
@@chrissorlie6497 Always happy to help.
@@tetsudo8181 Take the X-T30.
I currently have an XT3 and XT20 and used for my event photography. I'm planning to switch my XT20 into XT30, would you recommend this or should I switch it to an XT2? The auto focus improvement is so tempting and also the dynamic range of the XT30.
Yes, that's a reasonable upgrade. The autofocus improvement makes this worthwhile.
@@MaartenHeilbron thank you for your quick response. Really appreciate it.
I'm always happy to help.
thanks for such a detailed and objective review!!! Appreciated
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it, thanks for the kind words.
Hi, you mentioned that fuji doesn’t have a tracking focus object to follow at the moment, so the past, has this changed on an update ? Im a sony user looking into fuji. Thanks
Several recent models now have excellent focus tracking modes. I haven't seen the latest firmware on the X-T30 - worth checking the release notes.
Is it worth waiting for new models with the sensor v5, or just buy the xt30II ? I’m affraid the resale value will be quite low in a year or two.
Don't worry about resale value - just enjoy the camera.
@@MaartenHeilbron good advice!
Best review of the XT-30 features yet :D
That's very kind, appreciated.
Q. Can I adjust aperture in movie/video mode (while recording is on)? Thanks in advance!!
Yes, using the silent mode on-screen controls.
@@MaartenHeilbron Sorry for asking separately sir, but can I control/change audio levels as well while recording a video on x-t30? Thanks is advance again.
@@MoonDropout Yes, also using silent mode.
Hi Maarten Heilbron, can you made a comparison Fuji XT3 vs A7III. Thanks
I'd like to, but not sure I can arrange it.
Fujifilm X-T30 compete with the A6400.
That comparison is in progress ... next week.
An excellent review. Much appreciated.
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.
