Great video Maarten, I like how you had your friends looking at both camera from a fresh perspective. I have been using the Fujifilm X-A2 for 3 years now and even though I absolutely love it, I was thinking about upgrading to either the X-E3 or the X-T20. I did some research and looked at the cameras in stores and I also concluded that one is not better than the other, it all depends on personal preference and what you like to shoot. As soon as I finish saving up I will get the X-E3 because it fits my style of shooting. I mostly shoot street, architecture, nature and sometimes landscapes. The X-E3 has a nice compact size and the viewfinder on the edge which makes it ideal for street photography. I also found out that the lack of the flip screen can be overcome with the Bluetooth connectivity, you can open the app and use your phone as a second screen for those low or high angle shots. So I am pretty much covered with the X-E3. Have a great day and looking forward to more of your videos.
Fascinating Fujifilm would make, essential the same camera twice. Looks like you and the team had fun dramatizing this through presentation . Thanks MH
They seem to sell form factor which can appeal to many people needs. Currently using the X-E3 and I truly like it compactness. It comes really close as to being my favorite for travel and Street which is the Ricoh GR however it does serve its purpose for when I just don't to carry my nikon D7100. It sort of does encourage me to shoot more
Hey! Seen several different reviews of both of these cameras separately, but also together. Yours is by far superior. Thank you so much for the effort! Really nice video.
I've tried both cameras, the flip out screen on the XT20 is nice to have but the ergonomics on the XE3 felt so much better, I went with the XE3 and do not regret it at all. I also prefer the viewfinder off center (even though I shoot left-eyed). A big turn off for me with the XT20 is the fact that the store model's flip screen felt really loose. Granted that could be because it was a display model and everyone who picks one up is going to mess with that. But mainly ergonomics was the difference for me. Great job as usual Sir.
The focus check works slightly different, the XE3 version is more advanced. After you zoom in, it has a small box that reminds you where the focus box is. The XT20 doesn't have this feature. I got the XT20 because although the bluetooth, focus box, features are nice on the XE3, they are comparatively less important than the flip out screen and a built in flash.
Hi, I was wondering if you can please make a video explaining focus setting for landscapes, portraits etc. On single, continuous modes etc. Whether to use face/ eye detection or not etc. I come from Sony and I am confused on how to use Fuji focus system. I am used to using continuous eye auto focus but I’m not sure if the xt20 has this option. I just got it. Thank you in advance.
Shoot without lens is useful for third party lenses with no communication to the body or for creative free lensing holding a lens close to body at angles.
Maarten Heilbron I think cameras do that so if you leave home without a card you can at least get a few shots on internal memory. Maybe they worried you might miss an important moment if you accidently forgot to bring your card.
Hmmm ... although I frequently remind manufacturers that it would be nice to have a few onboard Gigs, there's no onboard memory here. I guess it would still transfer Camera Remote images to the phone? I should remember to try that.
Maarten Heilbron Maybe it for WiFi/cable image tethering. Can't really think of any other reasons, and there to remind you that without a card you only have 1 copy of files.
As someone who uses Nikon/Sony, I suddenly have the desire to get an X-T20 after watching this video! Maarten, you really have the ability to make people want to buy cameras!
I shouldn't be getting any more cameras in a few years. I already own a D750 and an a9, it's just that watching your videos make me want to buy things that I don't need. LOL
I really like your reviewing style. Full of infos and depth. Your photographs are just outstanding in each and every review. Some reviewers they took the easy road of reviewing the camera from their bed room, but what I like about your reviews is that you go out and test the camera in real life situations. It would be helpful though to also mention the price of the cameras and gears which you're reviewing. Thank you and keep up the good work. Merry Christmas.
Thanks for your kind words. Prices changes quickly and can be dependent on geography, so I would always recommend you check the current price with a local dealer. That said, I do put the price on screen (usually in Canadian dollars) at the beginning of a video, and the description always includes a link to B&H photo for a price check.
I'm still confused, Maarten! Ahahhaa.. They're so similar and have different plus point. Well, I think in the end it will depends on my budget. Cos I was thinking to buy 2 or 3 lenses for street & event photography. I'll let u know on instagram. Haha.. Thanks again for the great review/comparison. Keep up the great work, Sir! 👏🏻😎
Really great breakdown of the differences between these two cameras, and in an entertaining way. I think your video has actually pushed me more towards the X-E3! Thank you!
Sure. You welcome. I have watched your videos. I went back to them after time and it all made even more sense. Solid information and well represented. Thank you very much.
Well, while I'm really tempted by X-E3 aesthetics and the viewfinder placement, I know that the fixed screen would be a major inconvenience to me (my ancient Sony A-77 has a fully articulated one). Also, zoom lenses, which I plan to use, look a little bit wrong on a rangefinder-like body, I think. So, X-T20 it is, but, of course, in silver.
I am in a similar position and I think it comes down to how the evf placement feels and how well it works (with glasses) . I guess I'll have to test them in a camera shop! Thank you very much for the review
Hello Maarten and thanks for the detailed comparison which really helped me. I have a question if you could help me with it please, regarding the Fuji X-E3 camera whether is possible to start and stop shooting video remotely via the smartphone app, thanks again Maarten with kind regards
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. Yes, you can start and stop video recording remotely, but the resolution of the video is fixed at HD720 with the remote.
Let me know if I need to book them for a future video. We all appreciate your kind words, thanks. The whole Fuji menu system works well with three issues - it returns to page one item one too often, which I find frustrating. It skips over non-available items with no indication of what's disabling the non-available item. The setup page is in need of work - it's mostly a disorganized catchall for unrelated stuff.
I'm new in the fujifilm system, i just bought the X-E3 two weeks ago before stumbling to this video.. and i'm glad i made the right choice. X-E3 delivers great photos has the fastest auto-focus compared to xt20 and not to mention the sleek and classy design i just love it
I (still) don't have an e3 , so i'm Just trying ti Guess What Is shoot-without-sdcard. Is It possibile that you Can transfer to camera remote , so you Can shoot-without-sdcard without SD.? Just a try ... Fantastic video. Thank you
Thanks so much for your pretty comprehensive explanation about my two favourite cameras. This is such an informative video. Keep up your good work Maarten :)
I think the XE3 looks a little more stylish and the joystick seems great but I wouldn't swap the flippy screen on my XT20 for that. I think a lot of the touch functionality of the XE3 is making it's way to the XT20 also...
I agree about the style - particularly in the silver version. The touch functionality is nearly the same - but if they add the swipe motions that would provide four more Fn features, which would be cool.
Haven't tried it for video but I found it quite laggy for stills -then you tend to overshoot the point you wanted - perhaps I need to play with it more but was somewhat unimpressed with it on the first few go-arounds testing it...
I appreciate the kind words, thanks. I think you could get used to the joystick navigation and swipe controls - once you've made the transition, you'll appreciate how well it works.
has it been answered why you can shoot without a card? is it possible to shoot directly to your smartphone with bluetooth connected, probably? how many times did i forgot my sd card and would be happy to have that feature, even if its just for jpegs
With any make camera, Nikon, Canon, or Fuji, it's always been my understanding that the option to shoot without a card was simply for customers to test shooting and image review in a retail store. I don't know whether it can transfer images without a card but I always disable that function so I don't get caught out shooting without a card.
OCT 2018.. considering image quality, and that due to what is bnow the XF 10 and will be Ricoh GRIii, Would X-E3 be a good choice to get after (retail trade in) GRii and SONY a6300 with a dw small primes I have. Seems nice idea to carry XE-3 with a good small fast Fujifilm prime, instead of a6300 equivalent or the GRii! (?)
@@MaartenHeilbron thanks..I have Nikon DSLRs not going to Sony Full frame ever ....better Fuji for second system than a6300 with no 'great lens' and a GRii?
Not sure that I'd use the word "ever" - a lot can change both in technology delivered in new cameras and in your needs. But, yes, that sounds wise - and Fuji makes several great lenses.
yeah, the last thing i care about is specs comparison, what's it like to use? i noticed a funny thing in store with the X-E3 and 23mm I think it was, the lens was heavier than the body, and made the camera tip over a little bit. only a small thing but its not till you get your hands on these guys you notice funny quirks like this. i like to sit my camera flat on a surface sometimes and take a shot, so this combo wouldn't be ideal for me. i wonder if the grip would add the weight to hold up the 23mm?
Getting my XE3 tomorrow and browsing possibiities for a future 2nd body. Your gentlemanly and thorough presentation are a joy, so I can't help bu t subscribe! I just wondered, not having made much video: are you recording the menus footage from the HDMI out, and what's doing the recording?
I might have missed it and you covered this matter, but can you tell me as the man who wears glasses was it harder to work with X-E3 due to its smaller EVF?
Do you think a sling bag will make your walk around town easier and less bulky feel than a backpack? If yes, then I like to get the Peak Design 10L Sling bag, do you think Ash or Black looks best on a young adult, or the charcoal color?
Understood, my apologies. I would take the backpack - but one that flips around so that the camera is easy to retrieve. I would likely take the lighter colour - black sometimes makes it hard to find stuff inside.
Maarten Heilbron oh in that case, actually the interior color are different from the outside color, if the outside is: Ash, inside is light gray with blue accent Charcoal, inside is light gray with red accent Black, inside is tan everything, bright
Maarten Heilbron I can close either both of my eyes simultaneously, or my right eye only. So, that pretty much means I can't use my right eye to look through viewfinders.
That's a darn shame. I really love these new mirrorless cameras designed to look like rangefinders. But I don't think I'll be able to use any of them. :/ Cheers.
BEST and most useful video on youtube abt XE3 and T20. Lookwise, i like XT20, but joystick, Bluetooth, and EVF position are better in XE-3 and i am still confused since both are same in Image Quality.
Thank you for the video. I had been in a similar predicament recently. The DSLR shaped Fuji X-T1 has been my favorite camera for long. It's flip screen is such an asset for regular photography. It'll still be my go to camera for family events and trips. My X-pro2 , which is rangefinder styled, is the camera I enjoy shooting a lot more. It is the camera I tend to pick up for all my photowalks and street photography. The 'joystick' is wonderful. I tend to use the evf almost always as I shoot adapted old legacy lenses. The experience of shooting rangefinder styled body is somehow very natural to me. I don't need more megapixels , so the X-T1's 16mp sensor is almost always enough. What do you think of the Fuji acros black and white simulation, as compared to black and white jpegs on other cameras?
Releasing the shutter without a card? That function is in both my Canon DSLRs as well. What the intended purpose might be, I'm not sure. I only know what I've used it for: On rare occasions I've wanted to test to which degree the maximum number of pictures per second was influenced by a potential bottleneck in the writing speed. And on even rarer occasions I've used it to exercise the shutter mechanism on an unused camera. (I once read somewhere that you should do that once in a while). And maybe dealers need the function to demonstrate the shutter speed to potential customers.
But it's a good thing you can disable the function! It's not very nice to discover that you've been photographing for hours without a card. Not that I've ever done that, but In earlier days I was often frustrated that there was no way to disable the shutter when there was no film in the camera! BTW, thanks for liking my avatar. It was one of the first pictures I took with my EF 50mm f/1.8 STM.
Excellent video as always, you are one of my top 3 favourite gear reviewers! I shoot a canon 80D, and I'm happy with it, but if some day I have the chance to get a camera (not for work), Id go for a Fuji, they are beautiful and full of perks.
Thanks a lot for your great content. Would you consider the Image Quality on the X-T20 good enough for professional work? Mainly portraits, boudoir, family type shoots. I am truly interested in the Sony A7III, but just starting my career and would prefer a more budget friendly kit to start. Your input would be truly appreciated.
@@MaartenHeilbron Absolutely right, thank you so much for your reply. I am currently using a Canon G5 X 1" sensor, so excited to upgrade. My Instagram is @karhencam if interested of sharing your thoughts!
Thank you for putting up such a comprehensive review/comparison video regarding these two cameras! I see you made little comparison regarding the electronic viewfinders onboard these two cameras. Are they the same? If not, which one do you prefer? BTW, I wear glasses and I dont think the diopter on the viewfinder can allow me to shot without my glasses...
I appreciate your very kind words, thanks! You might be surprised by the diopter, unless you have an extreme prescription. The viewfinders are the same.
Dear Maarten, love the way you do your videos. A welcome change from the 'speed ramped' intros for most other ones. I wanted to know which one would make a better offering with the kit lens? A 23mm F2 with XE3 or the 18-55 2.8-4, especially if family portraits (so better bokeh) and cityscapes is what I need it primarily for.
Grrat reviews!bought xe3 yesterday with 18-55 lens I am still not sure whether i made the right decision. that tilting screen is quite handy but in reality I dont think we are on our knees all the time taking those low angle shots-that said it is slightly helpful. Then it comes flash-i suppose i can just leave it in and don't take it out... Oh i am loosing sleep over this? what do you think should I change it to t20 or stick with e3?
Hello Martin, did you get any trouble with XE3 EVF related to size, quality. Some are saying it is a problem when wear glasses because the way it was designed, it is difficult to use with glasses. Great review as usual !
I generally take my glasses off when shooting with the viewfinder, so don't usually notice - but I did check and yes, with my prescription I lose one edge or the other when I wear my glasses. That's the same on both.
Good day to you Mr. Maarten. Please sir, which camera is better for video🎥 between the two? I don't care about the other technical areas but 4k and hd out put, I mean, good productions, which one of them is good for video sir?
You make it sound easy but I know what it takes to make a video like this one and I'm in awe! Simply amazing! From now on I'll never buy a camera without watching your videos first 🎩🏆🎁
Love your videos . They always seem so sincere and genuine . Would of loved to hear which one you preferred. Thanks for the video as it’s always a joy to watch your channel .
Thank you very much, I appreciate the kind words. I think of myself as honest and detailed, but I'm happy to be described as sincere and genuine. I don't prefer either, both have their place. I find the X-T20 a little more versatile, but if I wanted a casual street and vacation snapper, the X-E3 would be first.
I have the xt10 and looking to get one of these. If I get the xe3 I will miss the tilt screen and the knob for bkt 1 and 2. But i dislike when I use the evf on the xt10 and I’m sweating my nose wets the screen it’s pretty annoying at this point cause I use the evf and never the screen to take images. I also like the minimalistic design on the xe3 ahh... Decisions Decisions.
Nice comparison - I still am happy with my choice of X-T20 but always hopeful that a few of the features of the X-E3 will migrate over with firmware updates - such as highlight warning and one that you didn't mention which is the focus stacking on the X-E3...it really comes down to preference of body style and use - as you say both have identical image quality and both are really nice cameras - best to handle ( or rent ) both before deciding...thanks for another great video Maarten...;-)
another point that may lead to one being in favor of the X-E3 is the ability to use the T-setting for long exposures, up to 15 minutes and see the image build up on the viewscreen, even when using ND-filters; I don't think this will or can be added to the X-T20
Maarten, I love your work! Thanks for so many great videos for us enthusiast shoppers. I would be persuaded into the Fuji system if the X-E3 just had tilting view options! Alas, I think I'll go with Panasonic's GX9. Funny how a company can lose a customer on such a small point, but I need those angles and that minimalist rangefinder style.
True, not just the screen ;) This is how I made my camera decision, Maarten, with your help: My lifestyle: Minimalist design, compact/light, good for street and travel, rangefinder body ideally, simple lens configuration Shooting style: decent sensor (for shooting blue hour), Tilt screen / viewfinder (for shooting at the sky and trees), focal range (for diverse compositions), traditional dials (shutter, aperture, ISO, drive), 4K video with stabilization, intervalometer Workflow: Bluetooth (for geotagging), USB charging (for one-the-go power), clear menu, touchscreen, intuitive settings, general ease of use Appealing, but too small / limited: 1” sensors (Sony R100, Panasonic ZS100, Panasonic LX-10) fixed prime lens cameras (Fujifilm X100F, Ricoh GR) good, but missing key features (Panasonic LX100 II, Leica D-Lux, Canon G7X, Canon G1X III) Interesting, but too big / overwhelming / expensive: film, obviously (my old Contax G2) DSLRs (my old Canon 5D) High end street cameras: (Leica Q, Sony RX1R II) Bulky, heavy bodies and big lens systems (Panasonic GH5, Panasonic G9, Sony A7R, Fujifilm X-T3, Olympus O-MD II) Almost, but still too much (Fujifilm X-T3, Fujifilm X-Pro 2) Good candidates: Fujifilm X-T20 (viewfinder hump adds bulk, ergonomics not great, can’t tap through menu, no bluetooth, bulky lenses) Fujifilm X-E3 (no tilt screen, no built-in flash, complicated menu, bulky lenses) Sony a6300 (no stabilization, no bluetooth, difficult menu, bulky lenses) Sony a6500 (awkward menu, awkward handling, bulky lenses, expensive) Olympus E-M5 II (viewfinder hump, no 4K video, flipping screen, no built-in flash) Olympus E-M10 III (viewfinder hump, unappealing design, awkward menu Panasonic GX8 (Just a bit too large, anti-alias filter, no flash, flipping screen, no bluetooth, no usb charging) Final candidates: MFT system ideal for me! Olympus Pen-F (focus problems, poor video, no weather sealing) Panasonic GX80 (no tilting evf, no bluetooth, no af/mf lever, smaller buffer, no exposure comp) Panasonic GX9 (no slow motion 4K, no weather sealing, no keystone correction, PASM dial instead of traditional) Winner: GX9, a camera that has the fewest sacrifices for me, and the most appealing style. It's such an under-appreciated camera from all the reviewers I've listened to. It seems like you and your peers have little negative to say about the GX85, and the GX9 simply improves on it, and yet no one has raved about this camera. 4K video & Panasonic's 4K photo features, most advanced sensor and sharpness and dual IS, tilting screen and viewfinder (quite handy!), terrific MFT system of small lenses... It's not perfect, but it's the closest I found. Maybe I will have to make a video to celebrate it 🎉🙂 I know Fujifilm is more revered, and I wanted to love one of these nice cameras, but in the end they didn't meet my needs. I'm happier with micro four thirds, and the most up-to-date in that line-up :)
Not only are his videos well produced, there is a TOTAL lack of fluff and bullshit. It's just straight reviews by an expert and plenty of paces to put the cameras through. His reviews helped me pull the trigger on the X-E3 as a secondary camera to my main DSLR.
Fantastic video and very well presented. I like the fact that you polled friends for their thoughts. The menu differences were excellent. Give me the XE-3, all in black and with a flippy screen and I think it would be perfect.
I like your reviews, they cover a lot of information--like the video histogram being displayed on the X-E3. I bought the X-T20 because it had all the features I liked on my old X-T1 but with a touchscreen and better sensor. One thing you mentioned was the comparison of the focal point with the touchpad vs the joystick. I've actually come around to using the BUTTON/DIAL SETTINGS>SELECTOR BUTTON SETTING set to FOCUS AREA (who comes up with these menu names?!) because it doesn't require the extra down button press you mentioned. To me that makes it work as well as the joystick. That does only leave you three more buttons to assign, but personally I don't use the AF-L or AE-L buttons (I like them tied to halfway pressing the shutter button)-so really the only short cuts I like to assign are ISO, FILM SIMULATION, and FACE EYE DETECTION. The other thing I realized in AUTO mode was that the front dial turns into shortcut for SCENE POSITION which is nice for Fireworks or night photography on a tripod.
Thanks for commenting, I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for your insider tips - always nice to know that the camera can support your style of shooting and preferences. Although there are some who complain about the abundance of settings and features, I'm always happy to see them, exactly for this reason.
Dear SIR, thanks for the informative video. I am confused between XT20 vs D7200 purchase. The single most important thing holding me back is the lack of information on the focus sensor's EV tolerance on the fuji. For example My D7000 can focus in conditions with -1EV of brightness, and D7200 can focus in -3EV of brightness. what is the EV value of XT-20 ? I read in some forums, its 0.5EV. But I find it hard to trust data in forums. Can you do a extreme low light focus test comparison between XT2 and XT20 and a modern midrange DSLR ? I shoot lots of events and weddings and I generally have to stay at ISO 3200 or above, which is fine, but focusing is crucial for me, otherwise I loose precious shots.
Hi Maarten, great review. Are you using the 16-50 lens in your XT20 examples (stills)? I hadn't even considered this lens until reading comments below. What is the advantage of the 16-50 over 18-55 (aside from price)?
Thanks for your kind words, appreciated. I'll post the images on flickr (flickr.com/photos/maartech/albums) so you can see which lens was used for each photo. Although the 18-55 is one of the best "kit" lenses on the market, the advantage of the 16-55 is more solid construction (it's an XF lens, not an XC lens) with metal mount and an aperture ring. It also opens to F2.8 and does not ramp (close the aperture) as you zoom in.
At 10'20" : The other day I was in a shop to try some Fuji cam. I was able to test the autofocus speed and I could took pictures even if there was no card in the camera ! And... it was really usefull !
@@Ali-ei3nk I do recommend holding a camera before making a decision - and having a chat with your local dealer, they're usually nice and informed people.
I was really ready to pull the trigger on a xe3. The more i see of its all menu system, I think my xt 20 can confuse me enough. The xt 100 seems even more of a menu nightmare. None the less I'm enjoying my time with them.
Always happy to help. It is a learning curve for everyone who has not used a Fujifilm camera in the last few years - but that is a generalization one can apply to most brands. There are few simple cameras.
This is a great comparison video. Pros often interject their biases and expectations and therefore are not objective. This was an objective practical comparison. Your helpers we're awesome. Thanks for showing the flash for the X-E3, many reviewers miss that. Others also fail to mention the Camera Remote app, and that the X-E3 supports Bluetooth to connect to the app where as the X-T20 is only supported via a direct WiFi connection. If I where choosing on looks alone the X-T20 would be my choice. But for the way I plan to use the camera, the X-E3 is the better choice. I want to pair it with my XF 27mm f/2.8 pancake lens, put it in my pocket and take it where ever I go, being thinner and lighter gives it an advantage. I use the app a lot for transferring shots to my phone, so the Bluetooth support is a big advantage. Connecting with WiFi is pretty clunky and the geotagging is a fail. So I'm hoping this is improved with Bluetooth.
hi there. its as very close decision. but what do u think is the best for family use. for kids and family day outs in your opinion. Thanks very much got 2 weeks to decide.
I wrote on my photo to do list " compare X-E3 with X-T20" and I thought I hope Maarten has done it, and of course you had. I have a X-A2, a nice camera, I like the selfie mode screen, but I missed having a view finder, so I got (as well) a X-E2S. Again a lovely camera, it has the viewfinder but now I miss the moveable flip screen. Neither camera is very good with video, well in my hands they are n't, and both cameras seem to miss focus too often. I also find the X-A2 seems to be much better in low light when hand held than is the X-E2S. So perhaps an upgrade. Perhaps the X-A5 with all the toys, ie HDR, time lapse movie etc, or a X-T20 with the viewfinder, flip screen and a dedicated video function, or maybe the X-E3. The price for a refurbished body from Fuji is the same for the X-E3 and the X-T20, so that does not help with the decision. I think the flip screen will be the decider for me, I like to take photos from waist height looking down and the X-T20 allows that.
I need some really great advice right now, I have a Canon 5D4 + 24-70 f/2.8 which I bought for paid wedding assignments & short film making jobs. Due to some reasons I have left the photography job and the gear is sitting in my almirah collecting dust. I don't think I need that expensive gear now and is only blocking money. But still I have a lot of passion for photography and want to make drama short films. I need advice on should I sell my current gear and buy a relatively cheaper gear like sony or fuji mirrorless?
Sure, that's a solution - and hopefully you can save some money. But with the knowledge of what the 5D4 can do, you may find a lesser camera frustrating.
That is exactly what I am feeling, thus I am really confused. Apart from bells and whistles(features) please guide me what I will be loosing if I switch to say Fuji xt20 or Sony a7III..
I haven't had a chance to see the A7 II for more than a few minutes, so I'd wait until I get a chance to review it, but that seems like a great choice, but I would compare that to the X-H1.
I made a lengthy comment regarding your approach to conveying details on the Fuji Xe3, I then watched this vlog on the comparison between that and the XT20. I have to say it was better in a few ways, but they all lack a little personality, until the end when your summery was a fair representation. It is very clear that you know cameras and not just one but a host of different types, no question. However, as tutors/enthusiasts it is quite easy to fall into a “ you know what I mean” or assume that everyone is familiar with terms and fail to recognise simple things that make a difference, eg a computer geek failing to explain that one has to press the continue key! And wonder why the pupil is struggling. Thank you so much for much of your method and information. But as you say, you accept constructive comments.
When did I say that? Civil comments is all I require. I do my best to be both honest and impartial, and to get to the point, which means keeping myself out of it as much as possible. I aim to provide very detailed reviews and not to waste your time. Although I do try to match the level of detail to the understanding of who I feel the intended customer might be, I realize that there are also those who are more experienced who will want all the tech notes. Clearly, I can't explain the terms in each video (I do have a couple of videos where I do explain the basics - ruclips.net/video/OG-rsamRWXA/видео.html - clearly I should promote them more) as that would antagonize more viewers than help the few who might watch my videos and don't know them. However, it's always interesting to read comments from my viewers, and to think about how I might do better. Thanks for taking the time.
Thank you for posting such an entertaining and very informative video. Ive just sold by Canon 7D and lenses and are going to make the move to Fuji....Cant decide between these two cameras. Im still undecided. I like the X-T20 but I post on social media often and I really wish it had bluetooth. Help what to do.....
Thanks for your kind words, always appreciated. The Bluetooth auto transfer is very useful, but it’s not that difficult without it. However, I think if you wait a week or two, a new camera may be announced to solve your dilemma.
I am so use to shooting FILM, I was just overwhelmed with the choices on the menus. Good Grief. I do love Fuji's cameras. My GS645S just broke. It was built in 1983. I loved the lens. Honestly, I am old school. I like knobs. So probably the T20, although I have used many Rangefinders and also like the X pro 2. I am still considering just buying the X-Pro 1. Save a little bit and buy more lenses. Is that still true today with these whizbang cameras ? are lenses really more important, or is it the sensor ? Thanks for the video... lots to think about. That looked like a fun vacation.
Lenses remain fundamentally important to getting a great image. There are lots of good cameras being sold with inferior kit lenses that don't provide the image quality the sensor is capable of. Thanks for your comments and kind words - yup, fun holiday, it's a resort I can recommend.
In my opinion, the 16-50 is the best kit lens provided by any manufacturer. I'm always happy to shoot with it. That said, the 16-55 is a wonderful, superior lens - I own one.
Agreed -the 16-50 is very nice ( and light! ) it sure doesn't get much love from most reviewers and forum types but seems to get high praise from people who have actually used it...perfect walk around lens...and at $100 with a body the price can't be beat...
Shooting without a card is for demo purposes. A customer can hear the shutter when shooting without a card which is otherwise impossible. I have a first generation full frame Nikon that has the same feature, pretty sure all cameras have it.
Such a comprehensive review. Thankyou! I’m hearing that the EVF activation delay when bringing it up to your eye is significant enough to be annoying. Did you find this. As a street shooter, I’m nervous about missing moments due to a delay when I bring the camera to me eye.
Thank you for this and your other great reviews. I'm just waiting for my x-e3 to arrive today... but what I can say even without having had it in my hand yet ... I will be missing the tilting screen... so it was a hard decision that took me some time... What made me decide for it in the end is the (hopefully) easy and well working geologging option (besides the new sensor). What I miss a lot on my other Fuji is an image stabilizer as found on so many other cameras. I hope fuji will provide it with the next generation to all models like x-t30 and x-e4...
Dear Maarten, do you have experience with the geotagging option on the Fuji X-E3. Yesterday I tried hard to get bluetooth working and at least the camera wanted to switch to wifi again. I think I will never understand what Fuji is doing in their app. I don't know what can be so difficult with stuff like that? With the Olympus app you just start geotagging (and you can do that as long as the battery lasts) and you finally connect to the cameras wifi only when you want your photos to be tagged with that data... It's as simple as that and Olympus implemented this function years ago.
Maarten, thanks! BTW, I agree with you that Fuji's ability to customize their cameras makes both the X-T20 & X-E3 excellent. I wanted to let you know, I discovered something new after upgrading the firmware to version 2.00: both the X-T20 & X-E3 now supports Fuji's free X RAW Studio app: www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/application/ Personally, I don't like lightroom-it's clunky compared to the ease of using Apple's simple previewer on the Mac (which I've been using to adjust the color histogram of the jpegs coming out of my Fuji). This Raw studio app is a revelation...and has swayed me to start taking RAW pics-because instead of bracketing three exposures or three simulations or three dynamic ranges, I can take the RAW files on my computer, hook it up to the camera via USB, and then have my Fuji X-T20 (or X-E3) spit out every combination of the image I want. In fact, when I get a combination of Kelvin white balance, Film Simulation, and exposure comp that I like, I can save it as a filter to try on other raw photos. It's like lightroom, but way easier...and faster. Which I like because who wants to sit at a computer for hours, when you could be taking pictures. Here's an A/B test I sent out to my friends to see which they liked better... www.flickr.com/photos/132074859@N03/albums/72157697521151225
I agree, that I've produced many Fuji videos in the last year - mainly because Fuji has released many cameras which they are happy to lend to Canadian reviewers, and partly because my Fuji videos have been among the most popular of those I've posted in the last year (Nikon is a close second). Two years ago, my videos were mainly Sony, for the same reason - lots of new cameras, easy to borrow from Sony Canada, very popular with viewers. Is there a camera or model that you like to see in the next few months?
I'm happy with my A6300 and A6500, however kindly review some Sony lenses as you have easy access to them. I also have one pending request. Gimble comparison. Remember?
I'd be happy too! Sonam and I are waiting for nicer weather to do the gimbal shoot - it's been very cold in Toronto this winter. Which lenses would you like to see included?
You have a talent for explaining complex menus in an easy to understand manner.
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
Always nice to know I've helped you identify a solution. Thanks for the kind words, and sharing your insights.
I love the way you get input from other people. It is so refreshing from the dull texture of one person videos.
Thanks, it's not a technique I've used much.
Yep! as usual, clean, useful, unbiased and professionally presented. Thanks, Maarten!
I appreciate the kind words, thanks for taking the time to comment - always nice to see your avatar in the comments.
Fascinating Fujifilm would make, essential the same camera twice. Looks like you and the team had fun dramatizing this through presentation . Thanks MH
The same, but with just enough differences to make it interesting. Thanks for the kind words, always nice to read your comments.
They seem to sell form factor which can appeal to many people needs. Currently using the X-E3 and I truly like it compactness. It comes really close as to being my favorite for travel and Street which is the Ricoh GR however it does serve its purpose for when I just don't to carry my nikon D7100. It sort of does encourage me to shoot more
You cannot ask more from a camera than it be one that encourages you to shoot more.
Hey! Seen several different reviews of both of these cameras separately, but also together. Yours is by far superior. Thank you so much for the effort! Really nice video.
What a pleasure to read your kind words, always nice to know my videos are appreciated.
Thanks for the kind words, always nice to know I've been able to provide useful information.
without a card could very well be in case of remote operation by app on smartphone with direct upload of images to the phone
Good thought, didn't consider that.
Good observation - I should have noticed that. Thanks very much for adding this note.
RUclips's new dashboard revealed that I'd never replied to your message - please accept my apologies. That video is still on my to-do list.
Thanks for all your videos Maarten. Easy to understand and very informative. Always looking forward to the next one. All the best, Ulrik.
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
Shoot without lens is useful for third party lenses with no communication to the body or for creative free lensing holding a lens close to body at angles.
I get shoot without lens, which is also useful for pinhole shooting. It's shoot without card that I had trouble with.
Even with a card, you only have one copy - unless you're using the remote app.
As someone who uses Nikon/Sony, I suddenly have the desire to get an X-T20 after watching this video! Maarten, you really have the ability to make people want to buy cameras!
Don't make a decision without considering the X-T2. ruclips.net/video/3O3iaAAYJWg/видео.html
I shouldn't be getting any more cameras in a few years. I already own a D750 and an a9, it's just that watching your videos make me want to buy things that I don't need. LOL
Yea, I'd be pretty happy with that kit. Thanks for commenting.
If they added a tilty flippy screen on the x-e3 ,it will be a different story....🙄
I know! And if it faced forward for vlogging and selfies ... killer!
Jed Teng Yeah! It will be easy to choose. Haha..
Camera Remote on a smart phone can play much the same role as a flip screen - and in some case is superior
True, and a point I don't make often enough.
Really great breakdown of the differences between these two cameras, and in an entertaining way. I think your video has actually pushed me more towards the X-E3! Thank you!
exactly what I was going for! thanks for the kind words, appreciated. always nice to know I've been able to help with a decision.
Most clarity and Proffesional comparison between the 2 camera. *Thank you!*
I appreciate your kind words, thanks for commenting.
Sure. You welcome. I have watched your videos. I went back to them after time and it all made even more sense. Solid information and well represented. Thank you very much.
I'm thankful for your kind comments.
I'm deciding between these two cameras right now, so this video is most helpful. Thank you!
I'm so glad to hear that this video came at the right time for you. Which did you choose?
Well, while I'm really tempted by X-E3 aesthetics and the viewfinder placement, I know that the fixed screen would be a major inconvenience to me (my ancient Sony A-77 has a fully articulated one). Also, zoom lenses, which I plan to use, look a little bit wrong on a rangefinder-like body, I think.
So, X-T20 it is, but, of course, in silver.
Sounds like a good decision.
I am in a similar position and I think it comes down to how the evf placement feels and how well it works (with glasses) . I guess I'll have to test them in a camera shop! Thank you very much for the review
Always my pleasure - yes, it's important to make sure it fits your hand and the controls work for you.
Special guest stars: Diane & Rob.
Very nice! 😊
I find these Fuji menus the most intuitive of the ones you have reviewed.
X-E3 delivers great photos has the fastest auto-focus compared to xt20 and not to mention the sleek and classy design i just love it
Always nice to know I've provided useful and interesting information. Thanks for commenting.
I (still) don't have an e3 , so i'm Just trying ti Guess What Is shoot-without-sdcard. Is It possibile that you Can transfer to camera remote , so you Can shoot-without-sdcard without SD.?
Just a try ...
Fantastic video. Thank you
Good thought, but I no longer have an X-E3 either.
Thanks so much for your pretty comprehensive explanation about my two favourite cameras. This is such an informative video. Keep up your good work Maarten :)
A pleasure to read your kind words, thanks for watching and commenting.
Some cheap used X-E3 and X-T20 bargains about now, so this comparison is extremely useful. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for commenting.
Always love your review style. Keep up the good work :)
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
Hi Maarteen! Awesome video as usual. And agree it's hard to pick a winner between the two cameras. Thank you again!
Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated.
True. I was surprised XT20 owners didn't get more excited when the drag to focus function was added. I find it so useful.
For video, it's very useful.
Haven't tried it for video but I found it quite laggy for stills -then you tend to overshoot the point you wanted - perhaps I need to play with it more but was somewhat unimpressed with it on the first few go-arounds testing it...
Not sure about overshooting - I think that's a practice makes perfect issue. It is a great feature for rack focus in video.
Great review MH,
If X-E3 had the D-pad & flip screen, I would've replaced my x-t20 & x-e2.
I appreciate the kind words, thanks. I think you could get used to the joystick navigation and swipe controls - once you've made the transition, you'll appreciate how well it works.
hi, does the joy stick assignable button instead of the swipping?
No, but there are other ways to reach those functions if you turn the swipes off.
has it been answered why you can shoot without a card? is it possible to shoot directly to your smartphone with bluetooth connected, probably? how many times did i forgot my sd card and would be happy to have that feature, even if its just for jpegs
Good point, thanks for commenting.
With any make camera, Nikon, Canon, or Fuji, it's always been my understanding that the option to shoot without a card was simply for customers to test shooting and image review in a retail store.
I don't know whether it can transfer images without a card but I always disable that function so I don't get caught out shooting without a card.
Understood, thanks for the explanation.
OCT 2018.. considering image quality, and that due to what is bnow the XF 10 and will be Ricoh GRIii, Would X-E3 be a good choice to get after (retail trade in) GRii and SONY a6300 with a dw small primes I have. Seems nice idea to carry XE-3 with a good small fast Fujifilm prime, instead of a6300 equivalent or the GRii! (?)
I'm not sure if there's any great benefit in making that change - but I do agree that the X-E3 is a nice small camera.
But, yes, that sounds wise - and Fuji makes several great lenses.
great detailed reviews! not many out there go deep into menus like this
I appreciate your very kind words. I wonder why they don't?
yeah, the last thing i care about is specs comparison, what's it like to use? i noticed a funny thing in store with the X-E3 and 23mm I think it was, the lens was heavier than the body, and made the camera tip over a little bit. only a small thing but its not till you get your hands on these guys you notice funny quirks like this. i like to sit my camera flat on a surface sometimes and take a shot, so this combo wouldn't be ideal for me. i wonder if the grip would add the weight to hold up the 23mm?
Interesting - but that is a general issue with smaller cameras. May I suggest a small tabletop tripod?
Getting my XE3 tomorrow and browsing possibiities for a future 2nd body. Your gentlemanly and thorough presentation are a joy, so I can't help bu t subscribe! I just wondered, not having made much video: are you recording the menus footage from the HDMI out, and what's doing the recording?
Yes, the menus are recorded from the HDMI out (with info display on) using an Atomos Ninja.
I might have missed it and you covered this matter, but can you tell me as the man who wears glasses was it harder to work with X-E3 due to its smaller EVF?
It was not, although I often take the glasses off when shooting with the EVF.
Does anyone knows if the af tracking performance are the same for both models reviewed? The flip screen and joystick are a plus point on the xt20 tho
They are approximately the same.
Maarten Heilbron thanks for your helpful videos 😀
Always glad to assist.
Do you think a sling bag will make your walk around town easier and less bulky feel than a backpack? If yes, then I like to get the Peak Design 10L Sling bag, do you think Ash or Black looks best on a young adult, or the charcoal color?
Sounds like a question that's best answered by the person doing the wearing, and the person who's colour choices this bag needs to complement.
Maarten Heilbron because it’s a camera bag and most likely you have one or experienced
Understood, my apologies. I would take the backpack - but one that flips around so that the camera is easy to retrieve. I would likely take the lighter colour - black sometimes makes it hard to find stuff inside.
Maarten Heilbron oh in that case, actually the interior color are different from the outside color, if the outside is:
Ash, inside is light gray with blue accent
Charcoal, inside is light gray with red accent
Black, inside is tan everything, bright
I'd prefer the red accent, with no reason.
Hi Maarten. I’m looking for a discreet street photography camera. I wear glasses and I am left eye dominant. Do you think the XE3 is a bad choice?
I don't think so ... how bad is your right eye?
Maarten Heilbron I can close either both of my eyes simultaneously, or my right eye only. So, that pretty much means I can't use my right eye to look through viewfinders.
Oh dear, then the X-E3 is likely not a good choice.
That's a darn shame. I really love these new mirrorless cameras designed to look like rangefinders. But I don't think I'll be able to use any of them. :/ Cheers.
As usual, vgood review. What makes this special are the "entourage" ☺ reviewing with you. 👍
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. We were all talking about the cameras, so I thought it would be fun to include their comments/observations.
BEST and most useful video on youtube abt XE3 and T20. Lookwise, i like XT20, but joystick, Bluetooth, and EVF position are better in XE-3 and i am still confused since both are same in Image Quality.
Appreciated, it's a difficult choice.
For me the lack of tilting screen is dissapointing on the X-E3
@@Petrolhead66 For many photographers, it's an important feature.
Always my pleasure. Good observations and insight, thanks for sharing.
Thanks - all good suggestions. And always nice to see your avatar in the comments.
Good point, probably best to leave it "off" by default.
Excellent video as always, you are one of my top 3 favourite gear reviewers!
I shoot a canon 80D, and I'm happy with it, but if some day I have the chance to get a camera (not for work), Id go for a Fuji, they are beautiful and full of perks.
Thanks, I truly appreciate your kind words.
Thanks for the well explained comparison, went for the X-E3 and 18-55 bundle.
Thanks for your kind words, appreciated.
I do - but image quality comes mostly from you - your style, your composition, your sense of light.
@@MaartenHeilbron Absolutely right, thank you so much for your reply. I am currently using a Canon G5 X 1" sensor, so excited to upgrade. My Instagram is @karhencam if interested of sharing your thoughts!
Always happy to help - see you on IG.
Did you find the XT20 handling the 50 - 140 zoom better than the XE3? Fantastic test venue. Love the colors.
Yes, its size helps slightly, but it front weights both (and the X-T2) pretty heavily.
Thanks, I enjoyed reading your kind words. The 18-55 is high quality for a kit lens, and probably versatile enough to do both.
Between lens kit 15-45 and 16-50, what should i choose with xt20? Please help! Many thanks!
I'd take the kit, which is one of the best, if the the best, kit lenses around.
Thank you for your kind words. My preference would have been the X-T20, but I would not lose sleep over the X-E3.
@@MaartenHeilbron Exchanged it to xt20 :) thank you for your reply.
always happy to help
I'd likely take the X-T20.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks sir.
I just bought one last month sir.
@@akanbilincoln3891 Glad I could help.
You make it sound easy but I know what it takes to make a video like this one and I'm in awe! Simply amazing! From now on I'll never buy a camera without watching your videos first 🎩🏆🎁
Thanks for your kind words, always nice to hear from a viewer who appreciates the work involved.
Totally understand and thanks again !
Always happy to help.
You're right, they've made this a tough call.
Thanks for the kind words. Focus stacking is available on the X-A5 - unless it's disguised in some way on the X-E3, I didn't find it.
Yes my bad - watching too many Fuji reviews...lol....still would be a nice addition for both X-T20 and X-E3....
Agreed - it's a nice feature to have, particularly for macro work.
Thanks for the detailed review. Is there a noticible difference between their sharpness and dynamic range on 4k video shooting?
There is not, although my preference for video is the X-T20.
another point that may lead to one being in favor of the X-E3 is the ability to use the T-setting for long exposures, up to 15 minutes and see the image build up on the viewscreen, even when using ND-filters; I don't think this will or can be added to the X-T20
Good point, thanks for adding that detail. The X-T20 is limited to 30s in Time mode, the X-E3 to 15 minutes.
Thanks, your kind words are appreciated. Did you consider the X-T20? It has a tilting screen.
I tried it and the other Fujis too. I don't like how they feel in my hand :( GX9 or Sony a6500. Thank you for your help!
So it's not just the screen ...
True, not just the screen ;) This is how I made my camera decision, Maarten, with your help:
My lifestyle:
Minimalist design, compact/light, good for street and travel, rangefinder body ideally, simple lens configuration
Shooting style:
decent sensor (for shooting blue hour), Tilt screen / viewfinder (for shooting at the sky and trees), focal range (for diverse compositions), traditional dials (shutter, aperture, ISO, drive), 4K video with stabilization, intervalometer
Workflow:
Bluetooth (for geotagging), USB charging (for one-the-go power), clear menu, touchscreen, intuitive settings, general ease of use
Appealing, but too small / limited:
1” sensors (Sony R100, Panasonic ZS100, Panasonic LX-10)
fixed prime lens cameras (Fujifilm X100F, Ricoh GR)
good, but missing key features (Panasonic LX100 II, Leica D-Lux, Canon G7X, Canon G1X III)
Interesting, but too big / overwhelming / expensive:
film, obviously (my old Contax G2)
DSLRs (my old Canon 5D)
High end street cameras: (Leica Q, Sony RX1R II)
Bulky, heavy bodies and big lens systems (Panasonic GH5, Panasonic G9, Sony A7R, Fujifilm X-T3, Olympus O-MD II)
Almost, but still too much (Fujifilm X-T3, Fujifilm X-Pro 2)
Good candidates:
Fujifilm X-T20 (viewfinder hump adds bulk, ergonomics not great, can’t tap through menu, no bluetooth, bulky lenses)
Fujifilm X-E3 (no tilt screen, no built-in flash, complicated menu, bulky lenses)
Sony a6300 (no stabilization, no bluetooth, difficult menu, bulky lenses)
Sony a6500 (awkward menu, awkward handling, bulky lenses, expensive)
Olympus E-M5 II (viewfinder hump, no 4K video, flipping screen, no built-in flash)
Olympus E-M10 III (viewfinder hump, unappealing design, awkward menu
Panasonic GX8 (Just a bit too large, anti-alias filter, no flash, flipping screen, no bluetooth, no usb charging)
Final candidates:
MFT system ideal for me!
Olympus Pen-F (focus problems, poor video, no weather sealing)
Panasonic GX80 (no tilting evf, no bluetooth, no af/mf lever, smaller buffer, no exposure comp)
Panasonic GX9 (no slow motion 4K, no weather sealing, no keystone correction, PASM dial instead of traditional)
Winner:
GX9, a camera that has the fewest sacrifices for me, and the most appealing style. Maybe I will have to make a video to celebrate it 🎉🙂
I know Fujifilm is more revered, and I wanted to love one of these nice cameras, but in the end they didn't meet my needs. I'm happier with micro four thirds, and the most up-to-date in that line-up :)
@@keith_pictures It sounds like you've made a very reasoned decision - and I'd say the GX9 (which I have not reviewed) is the ideal solution.
Should i het the 23mm f2 kit lens or the 16 to 55mm f2 kit?
No idea what you're planning to shoot. Either one could be a good choice, depending.
@@MaartenHeilbron mostly street and ppl and landscape. Thx
The 16 would be wider, better for landscapes, the 23mm would be faster for street and its 35mm field of view is kind of the traditional street lens.
@@MaartenHeilbron ahh thank you 😌
Always happy to help.
I'm lucky, geotagging is the deal breaker. So it looks like it's going to be the X-E3! Nice review!
Thanks for your kind words - always nice when there's one factor that makes the decision simple.
Not only are his videos well produced, there is a TOTAL lack of fluff and bullshit. It's just straight reviews by an expert and plenty of paces to put the cameras through.
His reviews helped me pull the trigger on the X-E3 as a secondary camera to my main DSLR.
I'll let him know that your comment included many kind words about his work, thanks.
Fantastic video and very well presented. I like the fact that you polled friends for their thoughts. The menu differences were excellent. Give me the XE-3, all in black and with a flippy screen and I think it would be perfect.
A pleasure to read your kind words, thanks for commenting.
Dear SIR,
thanks for the informative video.
I wish I could help, but I have returned the X-T20 and I didn't not test this. Does Fuji not provide this in their technical specification?
Thanks so much, Maarten. I'll check out the flicker page.
Always happy to help, they're up now.
Susan was asking about 16-50 kit lens not the pro 16-55/2.8
Sorry, I missed that. Haven't used the 16-50.
At 10'20" :
The other day I was in a shop to try some Fuji cam. I was able to test the autofocus speed and I could took pictures even if there was no card in the camera ! And... it was really usefull !
Thanks, I appreciate the information. Good to know.
@@MaartenHeilbronSame here, it made me able to test it a little bit.
@@Ali-ei3nk I do recommend holding a camera before making a decision - and having a chat with your local dealer, they're usually nice and informed people.
I wish you would do this same comparison between the xe3 and the xt30.
Sorry, that's won't fit on my to-do list. I did compare the X-T20 to the X-T30, if that helps. ruclips.net/video/91UPAbENtKQ/видео.html
great reviews. It's good to see some channels without kids and fan-boys in it. :) keep up the good work
Interesting observation - I do try to keep the level of discourse at a professional level. Thanks for the kind words.
I was really ready to pull the trigger on a xe3. The more i see of its all menu system, I think my xt 20 can confuse me enough. The xt 100 seems even more of a menu nightmare. None the less I'm enjoying my time with them.
The X-E3 and X-T20 menus are similar enough, but while the X-T100 is different, I find it simpler (it's designed for an entry level user).
@@MaartenHeilbron so nice of you to get back to me. I think it is just big learning curve for me coming from simpler systems & film.
I agree with your thoughts about the bluetooth connectivity - it's a very useful feature. And thanks for your very kind words, they are appreciated.
hi there. its as very close decision. but what do u think is the best for family use. for kids and family day outs in your opinion. Thanks very much got 2 weeks to decide.
I'd take the X-T20.
@@MaartenHeilbron thanks there mate. may i ask for what reason mainly on why u would choose the xt20 for family use over the xe3. thanks
Always happy to help. I prefer the size and the controls, as demonstrated in the video.
And what lens do u recommend? Do u recommend the kit lens 18-55 vs prime 35mm f2?
Either is good. The 35mm is better in low light, the other slightly more versatile.
Wait a second - as far as I know I can see the histogram while Im shooting with the X-T20. What did I misunderstand?
I was referring to video mode.
Thanks for your kind words, always nice to know I've been helpful in making decisions.
Honestly, I am really thinking of xt20 + 23 f/2. Can you compare it's image quality & dynamic range with that of 5d4?
Best to check with dxomark or dpreview for a detailed look at those tech details.
Amazing job as always!
Thank you! Cheers! Appreciated.
I apologise, you stated relevant Qs, I would have thought constructive comments would fall under that same umbrella.
@@f1remandg Of course it does, I just thought you were being needlessly restrictive. Just keep it civil.
I am considering X-T20, should I get it with the 18-55 lens ? or is the cheaper 16-50 good enough ?
In my opinion, the 16-50 is the best kit lens provided by any manufacturer. I'm always happy to shoot with it.
That said, the 16-55 is a wonderful, superior lens - I own one.
Agreed -the 16-50 is very nice ( and light! ) it sure doesn't get much love from most reviewers and forum types but seems to get high praise from people who have actually used it...perfect walk around lens...and at $100 with a body the price can't be beat...
It's an excellent lens at the price, and unlike most kit lenses, it's the equal of the camera.
Thanks a lot Mr Marteen for your informative and helpful reviews. I have bought the XE3 4 days ago and I love it.
Always happy to hear from a viewer who's found my videos useful - thanks for the kind words.
Hey maarten great video l think shoot without card maybe for external recording in video mode. Just picked up a xh1 it's awesome 👍😁
Great thought, but it's for video, there's a different option for video (as you see on the X-H1).
Your right Maarten😁 fuji quirks 😁
It's always something.
Great explanation Maarten 👍
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words.
Loved your video. Thanks.
A pleasure to read your kind words, thanks.
Shooting without a card is for demo purposes. A customer can hear the shutter when shooting without a card which is otherwise impossible. I have a first generation full frame Nikon that has the same feature, pretty sure all cameras have it.
Thanks, I appreciate your comments. It's certainly not all cameras, but it is certainly more than these models.
Which the best for amateur sir? Im so confused
If this video doesn't help make your decision, than either is a good choice.
Thank you for fantastic presentation and make it more easy to understand, I will go to E3.
I'm always happy to hear that my content has helped a viewer make a decision. Thanks for the kind words.
Such a comprehensive review. Thankyou! I’m hearing that the EVF activation delay when bringing it up to your eye is significant enough to be annoying. Did you find this. As a street shooter, I’m nervous about missing moments due to a delay when I bring the camera to me eye.
I didn't, but each of our perceptions vary. Which of the two did you choose? Are you using the view mode switch, or just eye activation?
Super helpful! Thanks
Thanks, glad to hear this was useful for you.
Thanks for the kind words and your thoughtful note.
Dear Maarten,
do you have experience with the geotagging option on the Fuji X-E3.
I do have that experience, and I agree, other cameras are simpler. In essence the X-E3 grabs the geotag but doesn't update it until you connect again.
Thank you for your answer.
always my pleasure
The X-E1/2/3 is the most elegant looking camera in years...
I agree, it's a very stylish unit.
Great review. Thank you.
Always nice to see your avatar in the comments, thanks for the kind words.
Both cameras can shoot without a card. The X-T20 doesn't have a menu option to disable that though. No biggie
I see. Thanks.
Maarten, thanks! BTW, I agree with you that Fuji's ability to customize their cameras makes both the X-T20 & X-E3 excellent.
I wanted to let you know, I discovered something new after upgrading the firmware to version 2.00: both the X-T20 & X-E3 now supports Fuji's free X RAW Studio app: www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/application/
Personally, I don't like lightroom-it's clunky compared to the ease of using Apple's simple previewer on the Mac (which I've been using to adjust the color histogram of the jpegs coming out of my Fuji).

Thanks for adding this detail, appreciated
Its a pity the X-E3 does not have a tilting screen
That is true.
@@MaartenHeilbron I now find myself having to replace my x-e2, do I buy x-e3 or x-t20
It feels like you are so much into Fuji :)
