Don't get me wrong, games like this are gorgeous and the devs have clearly put in a mind-bogglingly high amount of polish and finesse into it, but the monetization schemes used in this game (just as with their other recent titles) are equally as big and bold. It's a shame to see something so refined be tainted by these heavy handed monetization and microtransaction schemes. I know this game will find a large audience and many who are willing to drop vast amounts of money into it, but at least for me, I can't in good conscience get this for the reasons stated above.
Luke Taylor this is the reason I bought grid Autosport for iOS at launch. No f2p bullshit. You pay a premium price once and get the full complete package. Until there's another racing game with a premium business model, I'll just stick with Grid.

That's a misleading chart; look at top selling instead, where you'll see game sales rather than microtransaction sales, because that's where you're more likely to see titles that follow these premium payment models. It's not all bad out there! Just... mostly bad.
The funny part is, that Asphalt games used to be a few bucks up front and that is it. No microtransactions, nothing and a well balanced experience. The mobile gaming industry is terribly plagued by games that all copy the same monetization/progression systems. They all have the same menu structure with the currency on top etc., they all have the "watch the video for a boost!!"thing, they all have the beginner boost packs and , of course, they all have that system where the rewards seem generous at the start, but then it doesn't really scale well with the costs of upgrades later int he game. It is so obvious that the start is kind of like a free demo but then they make you pay tons of money to enjoy the game a few hours in.
Unfortunately, i hate p2w game, or grindfest game, so in this case, this is why i skip asphalt 8 too, but asphalt 9 is just the same. gameloft should make it one time purchase premium games. (maybe it because modern combat 5 leak incidents)

I vote with my wallet. I only get games that are either a one-off payment before you download (with no microtransactions in the game), or a free game that has the option to get a full version that removes any/all ads and other microtransactions. If a dev creates a free app I believe in and they have a consumer friendly approach and attitude, I will go out of my way to tip them or pay them even a few dollars to show my appreciation. I'm not just a taker; I'll give back because these people put in a lot of time and work!

Career mode is great but once you play online your car turns into a paper car the slightest hit and your car crashes not to mention the over powered 360 spin people do online soon as the race starts.

The arcade-like action is thrilling of the over the top variety. From daily challenges and competitions to online and the all important career mode the game could go on and on. THE BAD - through its unrealistic nature it lacks finesse, the threat of crashing is minimal, a good racing line is not required and shallow drifting only does so much. Often (because it's probably true) it's like someone just has a better car than you rather than losing fair and square. THE UGLY - It rips you off mercilessly! optional charges are through the roof! (real money) and you will give into it to an extent. The prices are double what they should be & sometimes it just feels like the makers are just taking you for a ride when they would have made a profitable more likeable title with their prices slashed for the same items (free stuff as is.) Final thought - "Hooked but frustrated. If they'd done this full price they would have been strung up! I love it anyway!" 80/100.
We had self-driving cars.... self-playing games weren’t too far behind. But, this is a self-playing game done right. As in you can CHOOSE to turn off the auto-play.

Asphalt 9 feels like a prettier, less interesting version of the games that came before it. Asphalt 8 and Extreme had more interesting game modes and race types. Asphalt 9 only has like 2 that it uses regularly? Elimination and Race? It got old super fast, and the grind got boring because I was always just doing the same shit over and over. Extreme was the better game IMO.

I think the game looks gorgeous, but the camera scheme just ruins it for me, I’m a huge fan of Asphalt 8 and I always play with my camera as far away from my vehicle, allowing me to see the game’s (still incredibly beautiful 7 years after it’s launch) graphics, it’s one of the main reasons why I still play it to this very day, but I couldn’t transition to 9 because the camera is just so close to my vehicle it’s sickening, the game just feels so claustrophobic for me it’s awful.

My favourite Asphalt was Asphalt 6. It's a pity that you can't keep your old Gameloft games. I purchased that years ago and now it's nowhere to be seen !! Gameloft really are rip off artists !! There's many games I've bought from them over the years and now they are nowhere to be seen ! Stole my money ! Scum ! Well you obviously didn't play for very long because i certainly hit a fucking wall. I cannot progress because none of my cars are high enough level to do any of the races i need to complete, therefore i cannot obtain the parts needed to upgrade the cars because I've completed every other race. Only way to progress at this point is to spend money on lootboxes to gamble on getting a car that just happens to be better than all the other ones in my garage. Fuck mobile gaming, there is no such thing as a free mobile game anymore.
You forgot to mention that the AI is so bad, that it makes you drive off cliffs or just straight into trains and there is nothing you can do about it. Garbage game
