A scene from the 1950 film "Born Yesterday", directed by George Cukor. Starring Judy Holliday, Broderick Crawford, William Holden, ... IMDb link: www.imdb.com/t...
We are all so captivated by Judy's brilliant performance that little is said of the genius of Broderick Crawford..two of the best comedic performances on film. Just awesome.
This is wild. This woman was basically the origin seed for most of Madonna in the 80’s. From the first album, True Blue, Breathless. She said she was also the inspiration for Susan’s character in Desperately Seeking Susan. Not to mention Nikki Finn from Who’s That Girl. All rooted in this. I love Madonna (and Judy).
These scene is so hilarious 😂 ……she was genius , talented and beautiful and i wonder if someone else also noticed the beauty of her hands, how she moved them with grace ……👌
If anyone ever tells you that it was a travesty that she won the Best Actress Oscar over Bette Davis in All About Eve and Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard, just direct him/her to this scene. Pure brilliance.
All About Eve had 2 best actress nomination Bette Davis and Anne Baxter as well as best supporting actress nominations for Celeste Holm and Thelma Ritter.. It had 14 nominations 1 more than Gone with the Wind ..It also had some unknown girl called Marilyn Monroe as well as Bette Davis,, Anne Baxter and George Sanders in one scene… But,,even still Norma Desmond is an iconic character and that walk down the stairs is Magnificent…My Oscar goes to Gloria..
I love Davis and Baxter in EVE and Swanson in SUNSET BLVD, and even Eleanor Parker in CAGED would not have been undeserving. But Judy Holliday in this film is sheer perfection; the funniest Oscar performance until Marisa Tomei in MY COUSIN VINNY.
To be honest, Bille Dawn never really came across as that dumb to me. I honestly felt like Harry was really the dumb one. Bille is at least smart enough to beat him at gin. It reminds me of a quote by Albert Einstein: “Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
The "BA BOOM"s are bad enough, but then she starts with the "Ta ta ta ta ta ta ta"s that would drive anybody crazy! 😂 I downloaded 2 different versions of the song though, I already liked it from "Bringing Up Baby"
Nice, and right after ALL THE KING'S MEN? Crawford had range, and could play funny very well. Of course it helped to have Judy at the other side of the gin game...
@@anneroy4560 That’s more intelligent than 99.99% of the population. That’s not just genius, that’s off the charts. I could maybe believe 135, which is still genius and right at the 99% mark, but 170 plus. Highly doubtful.
Middle class? These are rich folk. If you mean playing cards for nickles and dimes though, yes. My great grandparents and grandparents played cards every weekend
@@tzeffsmainchannel have you seen the movie? It’s great. You’ll better understand his character. He’s a grumpy, narcissistic and arrogant man who belittles others.
Most of the time the Studios did that in those days. They also didn't want her for this film, despite her Broadway success. They thought she was too "Jewish" and too fat. She was helped by Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy who insisted she be in a film they was making and she proved to be so funny that the studios hired her.. So much for your snide comment..
So brilliant and Judy Holliday was a very smart cookie. Love the black and white films, an incredible film
I remember seeing this film as a kid and being fascinated by her, particularly in this scene. She wasn't being 'pretty' she was being funny. Wonderful
What a great scene. They were both so over the top yet completely believable.
This is one of the best and funniest scenes I've ever seen. It never gets old. Both actors are geniuses. The whole movie is wonderful.

This was the scene that got her the Oscar for me. Vulnerable, funny and oh so sweet.
Epic. Every tiny little moment.
Absolutely!!!
The camera loved her.
You can watch this scene a dozen times and still notice some little hilarious movement you hadn’t noticed before. We were robbed of her talent so soon
A masterclass in physical comedy as well as timing. 😊

OMG her hands. The attention to detail in this performance is amazing!

Judy Holliday is annoying in this scene. It’s not as interesting as Gloria Swanson going down the stairs in the end of Sunset Boulevard.

What does brilliance in this movie has to do with the other?
Every time I play cards, I think of this scene
LOL me too!!! I always sing the song and drive my wife nuts when we're playing.
SPECTACULAR!!!!!!
I Love This movie Star! Best Comedy , Drama Ever She’s The Best Ever & so pretty💕

Oh sweet Jesus!! Juda was a genius
According to the inflation calculator, $55.60 in 1950 is now $703.90.
Wow!
Here’s how funny this scene is: I started laughing as soon as I saw the screenshot!
Tears. I'm in tears. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Origin of Harley Quinn's voice right here.
Lol yes I agree 👍
She fr sounds just like arleen😭😭😭
@@Ntmlaz Yeah that's because Arleen was pretty much doing an impersonation of her, lol.
@@mikejpassfilms yea but tbf arleen naturally sounded similar to that anyway when talking
Cranford had awesome presence..
Watching Harley Quinn and Joker right here. Just waiting for her to call him Mr. J.
When Brod said "41" I wanted to say "10-4."
T.J's explanation to Tony Soprano about Christophers movie Cleaver😂. He didn't sell it

The original Harly Quinn
She beat Betty Davis as Margo Channing in All About Eve that years Academy Awards for Best Actress
Also Anne Baxter and Gloria Swanson.
I don’t get it personally.
Yes, that speaks how magnificent her performance was, to beat these other excellent performances…
Me neither.
Why would I be confused ? I’ve never seen the movie
The 1st Harley Quinn!! 🎉🎉❤❤
Too bad many are blind to see that the U.S. elected Harry Brock in 2016 for President
Yep🥺. & then again this year 😩
Judy's IQ surpassed that of a genius at 170.
170?? Seems incredibly doubtful, as that’s amazingly high.
@@paulvoorhies8821 no, it is true ... she was very tested intelligent ... died at 44 ... such a waste ...

People will believe anything. Most Nobel prizewinners in science don't have that kind of IQ.

They need to remake this with Margo Robbie...
Why
Plese no, i hate remakes
For what reason Eat some brain food
It was remade in 1993 with *Melanie Griffith,* *John Goodman,* and *Don Johnson.*
@@VinMar-m6wyeah, I saw that as a kid and loved it. Then a few years later I saw the original and I couldn’t believe how much was lost in the remake.
He speaking- is so incredibly unbearable I couldn't stand to be in the same room as her. I hope it was all an act & she doesn't really speak that way.
Are you stupid?
No. She was acting- because she’s an actor. Judy had a genius IQ. An incredible talent. Her death was a great loss.
From what ive read she was fiercely intelligent in real life
Not at all 😂……she truly has a beautiful regular voice 👌
@@christinebethencourt6197 And she was a HELL of a singer.

I have a difficult time respecting people that changed their birth names.

Luckily, no one cares.
Her stage name is literally inspired by the Hebrew yom tovim which translates to "good days" or "holidays"
Because her last name Tuvim was close to the same meaning. Yes the studio made her change her name
@@paragod333 Well said.
