A tough-talking lawyer’s rivalry with a corrupt politico boss takes a deadly turn after he is framed for the murder of a young socialite. Not to be taken too seriously, it's a wonderful mash-up of Film Noir and Screwball Comedy styles.

This is an amazing movie that I’ve watched like 8 times. It’s the best of the genre and superbly acted. Can’t say enough good things about it.
The dialogue was amazing! Funny, suspenseful, silly , thrilling and great acting. Even that young girl pulled off an amazing character.
Great movie! Very entertaining! Not much made today could hold a candle to this film.
So good. Pat O'Brien, Edward Arnold, and Broderick Crawford. And Eve Arden being... Eve Arden. I thought I was in for a film noir not a comedy. I love the very ending. Way ahead of its time.

I just hoped to run in to a good old movie. A thriller, possible...maybe... So I started watching and IT WAS FUN‼️
Real fun💯. And what made me LOL was how "this guy" told him how easy it was for him to open a safe...😂.
I won't tell, maybe there's someone who's still going to watch the movie. 😉
But, as for me, I had a fun time relaxing this way, thanks 💯💐

@@barbarakay6614 🍕Pizza , it was a lot of work . I made the dough , sauce and grated the cheese🍅🧀 Also added some meat to some of the pizzas , the children had a choice of cheese or meat pizza . I would feed 350 students . They loved pizza day , it was served once week , fresh and so delicious ..🍕🍕🍕🥰😍❤👍🙏

I don't know how many kids my school cooks had to feed, but the high school was big & had grades 10-12. We never got homemade pizza, but the Fridays' pizzaburgers with crispy-crunchity buns & unique flavor were fantastic - I've tried to replicate 'em - to no avail.
I would've been your cheese pizza 🧀🍕 lucky duck! I like veggies on top, too. Making ONE pizza from scratch really is hard work (I only do it like once a year & when I do, I DON'T grate the cheese, nor make the sauce, like you did - wowww!) - can't imagine making enuff pizzas from total scratch to feed 350 - my fingers would go numb or fall off!!!🩹
My school had happy cooks, except for one kinda crabby & mean one. I get vibes that you were a happy, smiling cook ☺ - I just KNOW I'm right. ✅ 🙂

The dry-comic one-liners left & right in this strange comedy-noir movie totally MAKE it!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 LUVVVED this - twice, so far!!!

Jerk ex-boyfriend with clenched teeth wants to have a "heart-to-heart" with beauty. "What would YOU use?" she burnz him with as she leaves. 😏👌
Recurring - 1st part of verbiage slightly changing, except for the 🥁 rimshots - retorts by mad 18 yo luv-struck girl to lawyer, "Don't come crawling back to ME - (🥁) on your hands & feet!" (That didn't register in my brain right away ... then delayed laffz hit me as a Neanderthal came to mind, but ... really don't think she intended that image at all, which made her E-VON funnier - lol!) 🤣🤣🤣
Sooo many funny one-liners dotted throughout the movie - don't wanna E-VON attempt to count 'em all. They realllyyyyyy don't write & make movies this good, anymore. Not by a longshot.
🦇 The bats in the graveyard were a niiice olden-days' special effect. Hate bats - had a ginormous cottonwood tree in the yard when I was a little girl that lotza bats lived in ... sometimes they flew into the house via kids leaving doors open, then total chaos & screaming freak-outs ensued by four girls & a mom wildly swinging the kitchen broom around in the living room air wacking at the bats & screeeaming to us to cover our heads with newspapers or the bats' claws would get tangled-up in our hair. 🦇 🤯 Good times - lol
(Just now dawned on me - was never bitten one time in my yard by mosquitos, & we lived by the lake & a creek with lotza breeding grounds, cuz the bats ate 'em all!!! Menowthinkz lotza homes had cottonwoods cuz was never bitten anywhere in that town for 18 years ... as an adult, moved to a big city with NO lake, nor creek, & had lotza mosquitos & lotza bites ... then learned why ... no bats to eat 'em! And, chemical planes have to kill the mosquitos now & then, instead, & in two cities I lived the streets & yards were full of poisoned Monarch butterflies & other good insects, too.😿)

Looky there - - Broderick Crawford Bad Guy ! Oh but I still got faith in the Highway Patrol ! I remember seeing William Talman (Hamilton Burger) playing the bad guy too - But that doesn't seem so out of character - He always kinda looked like the bad guy when he was scowling at Perry's zippy courtroom tactics !
For wisecrack dialogue and plot; this is a gem.

Me no care - I am Viking! - I like to wear my thoughts on T-shirts that I design for the mall T-shirt printer to make for me ... a fast-food emp girl who looked more like a guy got realllyyyyyy snowflakey mad at me - then flipped-out & got E-VON madder at me cuz I was sooo indifferent toward her - it really didn't matter to me what she thought - I couldn't have cared less. She WIGGED!
The cook came out & pulled her into the kitchen; then the cook came out to apologize to me FOR her. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Makes me laff everytime I think about it - lol - maybe the girlboy with the butch haircut was jealous of my knee-length hair, too, Idk. NO one tells me how to think.👊

I still prefer the 1944 movie set in the town of Chillingbourne.
So many fine quips. Too many throw-away lines. This might have been a far more serious film than it was, which is curious indeed.

one of the dumbest plot lines ever but entertaining.
I guess you ran out of space to run the entire movie. Let’s see, you cut out the title and opening credits and possibly the first few words of the dialogue of the movie. Then you ran the video but not the audio of Shirley Temple in her song/dance performance. Then you cut out the very last few words of the last and essential scene of the movie. But of course you managed to interrupt the dramatic flow of the movie near the end by plastering ads for other movies across the screen when I was trying to focus
on the present movie. Thanks for the very disappointing presentation of an otherwise good film. In the future, I must try not to attempt to watch movies you present.
