This my second week with a trainer as a trucker. I understood the concept and I was always late on my approach. I studied this for 5 mins and today did 3 alley docks and nailed them every time. Thank you so much. This helped out so much.
I remember 7 years ago when I just became truck driver, I was desperately trying to find a video like this. I’m glad someone made this video. It helps new drivers tremendously ✌️
They should come up with an app and have it on your truck connected to your phone GPS map…and map exactly what to do…lots of respect for the drivers is not easy takes patience.
These kinds of videos are very helpful in grasping the mechanical concept of maneuvering a trailer, but actually doing it from the cab is just something you have to develop a feel for, because that’s where your skills in this come from. If you can do that, you’ll realize the above maneuver is almost the easiest thing ever, especially with the amount of room available.
These videos are the perfect instruction for people who think like this. The protractors of the tractor AND the ground are incredible. Combined with the red trailer lines, green space lines and the blue sight lines the details are flawless. Thank you.
I drove for 20 years and here is to the rookies out there. The secret is the spot mirror in backing whether blind side or normal. If you can learn to master using spot mirror in backing you are the king of the parking lot. I know it makes things smaller but as you learn you will know what I mean. Stil get out and look though.
Great visual video! I hope EVERY DRIVER has this great picture embedded in their brain! Right down to where the trailer tandems are at, as it relates to the amount of trailer overhang on the blindside, when doing this task!! Add some experience, and how much your load weight affects the dynamics of the pivoting points, and you're golden!!
I work for Waitrose and before lock down my office used to overlook one of the service yards. if i ever needed to relax and clear my mind from stressful thoughts I'd look out my office window at lorry drivers parking trailers. it was beautiful. since lockdown i work from home where, several times a day my wife will return and fail to park the Mercedes properly in her allocated space on the drive way. my doctor tells me that when people get to work from home their blood pressure usually goes down.
That Flying J there in Winchester VA is the tightest truck stop I've ever been in. That lot had to have been set up for 48' trailers with daycab or cabover trucks because if you don't get in there while there's at least 2 spaces open next to each other you just about can't get in a spot even with the shortnose truck, and a long nose truck can forget it. They need to take out one row in the center spots and widen them about 2 ft.
Look at the flying J in Walton KY on a map, at 8 yesterday there were three spots open and I just barely made it in rhe spot took me probably 5 minutes. While I was in the shower a dude hit my truck on his blind trying to back in there
That’s how the rails get bent tho, cuz you have to be in the spot damn near but you know your tail swing on your blind side is too much then slide the tandems back, but you’ll be mid turn doing it and that’s not good for the rails, but once you do, you eliminate the tail swing, then just watch out cuz you’ll be closer to things near your hood and your turning has to be perfect. 👌 it doesn’t really help to slide them before you set up because you have to have to much more space in front, you gotta be almost in there and then do it. I’ve only had to park like that one or two times in my 8yrs out there.
I’m with my trainer now and she couldn’t explain to me how to back every time she got mad an it pissed me the hell off, thank you for this video hopefully I get it tomorrow or she has the power to restart my training
This is the harder way. Believe me guys i used to drive rigs. This is the way the school teaches you. Once i started work I could not figure out how and why the old experienced guys would reverse so easily. Here is the trick: Watch the wheels of the trailer. Turn your trailer OUTSIDE the parking spot completely so its straight in line with the parking but completely outside! Only then you let it go inside! Believe me, will make your life easier! Yes you need extra space, but 99% of the time you have enough.
What I was told when I was fresh out of school going into further training was that the schools job was to get us to pass the test it's only then that we'd learn how to drive and back
If you follow these videos they will help and they do work! I learned more from these videos than anything when I first started trucking. I got my CDL 5/2022.
It would take me about 2 1/2 hours to put a truck in there.😊. Never was good at backing up trailers. That is a cool representation from the top view with the angle reference I bet that helps a lot of “trailer challenged “people.
For me, it took a full year for it to be fully comfortable backing with GOALs, even though I was decent right off the bat. It took nearly two years for it all to "click" and become less conscious. Three years in and I could cowboy it in just about anywhere without thought. Now I own an extended sleeper and sometimes things need more thought and even GOALs, but more often than not I see tight spots and say "noooope!". The facility in this video is extremely generous so I'd opt for a simple S-Turn. The easiest backs at truck stops are the ones with ample reserve parking. Plan ahead, with plans A, B, and C for safe haven, reserve with your rewards points, and you'll rarely need to do the really difficult spots. Thinking ahead will make your days easier.
i wish you did a lot of verbal explaining describing the steering wheel turning etc it would’ve really helped me. i didn’t learn anything from watching this i was really hoping you’d would be explaining and talking us through it especially with the steering thats the hardest part and most confusing for me
I pulled doubles for most of my career as a trucker and we had to back when we broke the trailers down but not often. I now pull 53 footers a lot now since my new job now is drop and hook. I don't do half bad I just imagine the trailer being my yacht when I win the lottery 😅

It’s not that hard . Reversing a box trailer behind a car is harder .
@@blastermaster2383 Okay dude nobody asked, not everyone is born a truck driver with a trailer that's 25 meters long
@@kemalyildiz4992Couldn’t agree more with your comment.
I'm an "eyes on " type of guy. Seeing it from this angle make it more easy to understand. Thanks for the short.

Helps me with a 5th wheel RV too. Great Video

People need to give truck drivers more props because they are insane vehicles to drive.
Real 😊

Metric scaling of the tractor is one big brilliant idea that helps easy understanding the manoeuvre. Thanks a lot.
He kind of lost the trailer at about the 90 degree mark. If he’d chased it a little more at about 85 degrees the pull up may not have been necessary.
These videos are the perfect instruction for people who think like this. The protractors of the tractor AND the ground are incredible. Combined with the red trailer lines, green space lines and the blue sight lines the details are flawless.

this should be demostrated during the class room portion of the trucking school this would help out lot of people
I'm literally watching this on my 1 hour break in class
True😊

Who else loves the feelings when its a really hard back and you start seeing the trailer getting parallel with the lines while chasing ? 😂😂😂
Hell yeah. Makes you want to pull up and do it again😂
Heck yeah driver! When you're almost there, then a short pull up twist to when you're dead on, for the straight back and bump!!
Wow, I thought it was just me. I absolutely love seeing that trailer move it never gets old even when someone else is driving . It l so poetic .
I’m a new driver and I love this because once I finally caught on I felt like a kid again how happy it made me
I call that chasing dope. Love that rush of dopamine you get from hitting your mark

I was able to back up perfectly on the first try with zero semi truck driving experience after watching this video

Sometimes you gotta slide the tandems and the fifth wheel when it’s that tight.

Congratulations your human . Not like some other truckers who act like John Wayne who can back a rig in while playing pocket pool .
Pull through parking is best.

It may seem mind boggling at first, then it's just backing. But this is a nice showcase nonetheless.
@@lars396 no it's not. There's a reason why this video has 96k likes and millions of views, it's because people are struggling with it

Nice job driver. When in doubt GOAL(get out and look!)
Many companies are starting to use the new “Pro-Tractor” on board angle finder. It’s super handy for the new guys.
thats cool !
I worked in road design and we used a program just like this.
Is it me or it moves exactly like a manual pallet jack maneuvers??? If it does then it makes sense to me finally.
This takes alot of practice to get the feel for!
Thanks, very good demonstration
FLAWLESS. THX.

I have like other 100 videos, with lots of different angles, where all I do is talk. This was just one short video.
Really Enjoyed from this video clip. soooo informative. appreciated
You should try this maneuver with your tandems all the way back.
AWESOME job!🎉
The best. I've found it here for ets 2
If only all docks were like this haha
Turn steering wheel to right, trailer moves left. Turn steering wheel to left, trailer moves right.
Get it! Got it! Good! 👍🏾💯🏆
😂😂😂😂😂😂 alright ladies!
Thank you so much❤
That space is generous
Very generous. Enough for a 45 even.

thanks for 360° camera
that is freaking skill
18:15 buddy had to cheers himself lmao 😂😂😂
This has been very helpful. Can you do one for moving a trailer over to the left and right because ur off a little??
Pull forwards little left-right-left with the steering wheel and you should be straight!
Edit: can also use this to move over :)
good video, add steering wheel view
Thank you,now i can park better at ETS/ATS
Same 😂😂😂
You people out there just remember the big truck is square from turning and backing up not round
It's look awesome 😎
For me, it's easier to use instinct and assume the rear wheels of the tractor head are the front wheels
well how many sand shoes make that angle? havent practiced those yet, but it does help seeing this video. 2 weeks of training left.
Beautiful 🥹
