My mother hated video games, especially violent ones. She was also a huge Bond, and espionage/spy book junkie. MG Solid was the first game she ever sat and watched me play. I’ll never forget she would slap me if I tried to skip any dialogue, and I had to play the entire game only killing when I absolutely had to. Such a great memory, RIP mom.
That's a nice memory. Rough losing someone close like that. My Dad was a big movie buff & enjoyed new tech & whatnot, got us new consoles as they came out - well up to the ps2. He heard about MGS & got it for my brother & I & would watch us play - he'd joke around that he used to be Snake (he even had a nice mid length near mullet too back then); & real nice stache, he'd would've looked kinda like Old Snake actually lol after 9/11, my parents had separated, & he joined the military - when he'd visit he'd watch me play 3 & tell me about the stuff that's similar to things he'd use but obviously the stuff in mgs3 was outdated by then. He didn't make it back alive & well from Afghanistan.
The fact that you physically have to pull the trigger to finish The Boss aswell, is brutally genius and makes the whole final act of the game hit even harder
Even Ocelot has gotten Ocelot confused about the whole thing. The series is a glorious mess but still makes more narrative sense than most of Capcom's IPs. 😆
I'm pretty sure not even Ocelot can keep track of who he's working for as a spy. This guy even hypnotized himself twice just so he can truly commit to the role
If you kill a soldier in the mountain, a vulture will appear and eat him. Then, if you kill and eat the vulture, the soldiers ghost will comment on how you ate him part of him during the fight with The Sorrow. Absolute wild Easter egg.
it still hits me hard how much The Boss had sacrificed. She had literally given she could have possibly ever had until all she had was her honor and legacy and in the end they took that too.
I am still convinced that that only reason that segment exist is because A: Kojima wanted to make sure you heard the awesome theme song. B: Konami demanded that everybody knows the theme song "We paid top yen to make this song and you WILL listen to it! You are not allowed to win the game otherwise! >:( "
@@LeeEverett1what could it possibly be loading? You load into that room, then load into another room when you leave lol It's straight up Kojima just having fun, giving us a break after the boss battle and letting us enjoy that beautiful song
I absolutely LOVE the small ridiculous details in these games that you wouldn't ever think about doing or seen during your first few playthroughs. Such as: -Certain codec calls relating to something you've equipped such as the tuxedo, Raiden mask, crocodile cap, the dream sequence etc. -If you use TNT to blow up enemy supply/food storages, they'll be hungry or only use handguns. -If you equip the SAA and spin it during the Ocelot fight, he'll stop and challenge you to a revolver twirling contest. -While in the caves, if you don't find the torch, after awhile Snake's eyes will adjust to the dark and things will be easier to see. -If Snake eats a certain food he thinks is gross enough times, he'll begin to like it. -If you equip the Raiden mask during the Volgin fight, he'll let his guard down thinking you're Raikov. -When Snake loses his eye and you go in first person the game actually conpensates that and his vision is altered -Wasps will attack you more aggressively if you wear black or red, but will leave you alone if you wear white. -Vultures in the mountains will feed on dead bodies. -If you use the fake death pill during The Boss fight, she'll know you're faking it and do a kick that wakes you up. -The final duel with Ocelot has 4 different endings. There are countless more but this game is insane for its time.
And if you eat one of those vultures that have eaten a dead soldier, you will be poisoned. Also, if you kill a soldier by cuting his throat with CQC during the fight with The Sorrow will appear with their head hanging and screaming in pain...
I will shamelessly admit that I cried at the end of this game. It still moves me. The worst part of it was that Snake had to be the one to do it. You couldn't refuse to shoot. The game just waited until you pressed the button. A simple design choice, sure, but it was powerful in its symbolism.
Lol I was too stupid to keep track of the plot and still assumed The Boss joined Volgin just to be evil, even after shooting her down. Went a good 10 years of my life thinking, "Good, we finally got that traitor."
@@datguyuno98 I also cried during the scene in Phantom Pain when “Snake” honored the fallen soldiers, not by throwing their ashes out to sea but converting them into diamonds to wear on their uniforms to take them into battle.🥹🥹🥹
I remember my old baby sitter (one of my step dads military buddies) his name was Sergant Touche, he bought me this game when I was a kid because my family didn’t want to pay 60$ for a game at the time we were pretty broke. I’ll never forget that. This game absolutely blew my mind it was such a treat. Sgt Touche went on to die in Afghanistan due to shrapnel from an IED bomb going through his helmet. Died like a true hero for his country. RIP touche, I’ll never forget you bro. Thanks for letting me experience this game when it was brand new. That’s a memory that I’ll always cherish
The beautiful thing about that fight is that the game never tells you that you can counter her CQC moves, but somehow, through context clues and really great pacing of the animations, you can guess that hitting the melee button at the right time works. I felt like a damn genius the first time I figured it out.
@@lilwyvern4Snake besting her at CQC is slowly revealed through the game and it's clever foreshadowing that Snake (and you) will eventually beat her on it. At first he gets curb stomped but as the game progresses he slowly begins to adapt and counter the Boss' moves. His testament to how his CQC had evolved was shown in Groznyj Grad, when he immediately disarms the Boss when she was holding a combat knife.
@@astorek8611 Yep. You have to wait until partway into the animation (it's been years since I played the game, sorry), and there's a slight pause before The Boss does her takedown. If you hit the CQC button there, you'll counter, knock her down instead, and leave her wide open to a few shots to the face.
Something most people probably haven't played: The Vita version of MGS3. Its actually fantastic, and having the touch screen for switching weapons/reload was super nice. I know it was a port but still worth grabbing the collection (Comes with 2 and 3)
Played through it in 2021 on series x, it still holds up all those years later. It actually blew my mind back in 2013 when i was 16 years old finished it for the first time, this is the game that changed the way i looked at video games as a medium
Same effect MGS1 (1998) had on me when I was around 12-13. Nothing similar existed up to that point. Blew me away. Then ONLY 4 years later I played MGS2 (2002) and the same effect all over again. By the time MGS3 came out I was used to that quality of games but still was blown away.😁
I remember playing this for what felt like the entire summer of 2005; I was going to begin my sophomore year of high school that fall. I had the strategy guide and was head over heels for this game. What incredible memories.
I'll never forget taking a guy in a chokehold, having another one wake up in front of us, and holding HIM up at the same time by aiming at him, in my no alerts run.
The end fight with the Boss was my fav out of all video games. First few playthroughs I did the whole sneaking around with a sniper rifle thing before I wanted to try just rushing her, it took some doing but I eventually got so good at dodging her gunshots close up and countering her cqc that it became a totally different bossfight. I actually felt like i was HER bossfight by that point.
I would love to play a MGS game set in WWII where we play as The Boss before she attained that rank. Have an open world design similar to MGS V where she goes around Europe assembling the Cobra team to defeat the Nazis and win the war. Her backstory is so much more interesting than Snakes.
2004 was such an amazing year for gaming. Hl2, GTA SA, Halo 2 Metroid Prime 2, MGS3, and many more amazing titles released this year. This was the perfect time to be a gamer.
@@dani4ever yeah you are absolutely right, insane year. I would throw a few more titles from 2004 that are 10/10 IMO: Dawn of War 1, battle of middle earth 2, rome total war, crazy year for RTS fans as well
Gman, please don’t stop putting out these amazing retrospectives. Sure, I look forward to the ‘your mom’ comments sprinkled in your videos as much as the next guy - it’s like finding cash in a jacket you haven’t worn in awhile - and I certainly get great ideas for heckling friends, but your videos are so much more than that. What really stands out to me is that you REALLY KNOW YOUR SHIT. I’m a coupla years older than you, but I grew up with the same taste in games. Some were absolutely transformative moments from my youth, much like seeing Empire Strikes Back in theaters (my first movie as a 3 yr old). What truly stands out to me is how you’re able to show us these gaming moments into the same thoughts I had in my youth, but didn’t have the wherewithal to verbalize what impact they had on me. Bravo, Gman, you Aussie treasure of a guy. ALL of your videos are worth watching - your recommendations are solid, your criticisms valid, etc, etc. THANK YOU for your service to us, the gamers of the world who otherwise can’t express how meaningful some of these gaming moments have been in our lives. P.S. Thanks for recognizing the shotgun as the ultimate FPS weapon, as using that as your gaming benchmark.
That bossfight with The End was really badass. Boss fights always used to be very frantic and fast paced affairs in almost every other game prior to it. But this time you were forced to be patient, methodical and try to outsmart The End to be able to take him out. It was a real treat. A very special moment in gaming history.
0:07 The satisfaction that's comes from taking down an enemy with CQC in MGS3/4 still sticks with me to this day. I still remember how good that final thud felt the first few times I did it in MGS3. Such a small detail added so much to that mechanic. The developers definitely got it right.
I had a very important teacher in my life who physically resembled The Boss when I was 12 years old. I owe a lot of who I am as a person to her. Tragically, she died of cancer before I could thank her for all that she did for me. MGS3 was the first game I played right after her death. I will never forget the ending of this game, no other game has made me want to hug its protagonist so bad after the end cutscene.
Fun fact, I actually beat The End when I saw the glare from his scope and I was so pleased at my supposed "big brain moment". Yeah, you're right about the ending too. EVA's VA really sold it for me.
This was my first Konami Game and man I was confused. It was so realistic and tactical on one hand and straight up bat shit crazy out on the other. Like.. I have to carefully treat my wounds while your man is shooting bees out of his hands I loved it
The subsistence version was such a masterpiece. MGSO on the ps2 will forever be a critical moment in gaming for me. It was my first time going "online" and playing against real people.
Metal Gear Solid 3 is my favorite video game of all time. Since I first played it in 2006, it has been the game by which all other games have been measured against. It's creativity, personality, presentation, story, themes, art direction, mechanics and gameplay made it both pioneering and timeless. Metal Gear Solid 3 is the reason I play video games.
Metal Gear Solid on ps1 is one of the greatest games ever made. Easily top 5. Sadly, this game is NOT top 100. It actually sucked pretty bad. By comparison or on its on. I just can't fathom how people actually like it. And yes I beat it.
What an absolute masterpiece! If I think back on all the games I truly enjoyed over the years, this is one which always springs to mind. I was 15 when this came out and it was mesmerising.
That DSP reference hits even harder, when tihydp series started with MGS2… he is really at this point, the anoying uncle of every gamer youtuber… what a thrill
This game is my favorite of all time. As a kid I had only played up to the sorrow hundreds of times because I didn't know how to beat him. Years later I picked up a game guide in gamestop that explained how to beat him..imagine my excitement my favorite game became significantly longer haha. Getting the HD version ported to the ps vita was a dream.
MGS3 for me is in the holy trinity of 6th generation video games alongside OG RE4 and Ninja Gaiden Black. I honestly believe video games peaked in that generation.
Even only in terms of all the cool secondary stuff you can do, changing the menu colors, goofing with the cutscene cameras (where you can find secrets), the unique codec calls, realistically loading an extra round in the chamber, the ways you can beat most of the bosses in different ways, making snake throw up by spinning him around in the pause menu… games these days rarely have all this weird stuff packed in there. But on top of all that, pretty much every aspect of this game is perfect in my opinion. Still looks great and yeah, that soundtrack is incredible. The last few runs I did were total stealth, no alerts so it’s been a while since I’ve heard that music. But even thinking about it gets me pumped. Whether the remake sucks or not, there’s always the original masterpiece to go back too. Ain’t nothing gonna touch that.
As much as I love MGS3, MGS1 will probably always be my favorite. MGSV for the fun sandbox, MGS3 for the best of everything, MGS1 for the story, atmosphere, and to-the-point gameplay and writing. Something Ive always sorely missed when replaying MGS3 is MGS1's tact with exposition.
I only played the 3DS version of the game as a kid, but it's not only one of the best games on the 3DS (not surprising considering it's already one of the best games in general), it's also one of the most well made ports - not only does the jungle setting work incredibly well with the 3D stereoscopy, it also does some unique things like putting the map and all the UI (aside from the healthbar iirc) onto the lower touch screen to free up visibility, as well as managing your inventory and using sonar from the touchscreen, it also had features exclusive to the 3DS (I think) like letting you use the inbuilt cam to create custom camos with dynamic camo indexes... Really an incredible and unique experience
@@1324Potato idk if you're trying to be an ass since it's obvious from my comment that I enjoyed it, but I think the 3DS one is genuinely the best experience of this game, even if the resolution/fps isn't the greatest
I'd always say MGS3 is a Perfect Game, and that Kojima was the first person to make me really care and mourn about a character, the deliery at the end of what really happened with The Boss is something that really marked me, I played MGS 3D and I was literally in the middle of the night under my blanket seeing the final cutscene and I remember crying myself to sleep that night becuase The Boss ultimate sacrifice is that impactful, so much everytime I see that scene I can help but salute just as Snake does.
Damn, you always manage to bring back memories. Back in 2011 I bought the last copy of HD Collection in my local store the day before winter holidays at school. And played Snake eater for the whole week.
There are three games i play through once a year: Chrono Trigger, Metal Gear Solid : Snakeater and Mass Effect 2. I guess you could say they are my top 3 of all time. I'm not sure if I could pick a definitive top 5 but Hollow Knight has been the most recent title to give me the feelings I got when i played the others as a much younger person.
49:05 - I agree. I can't help but think about Metal Gear Solid and it's impact it's had on me ever since I've first played it. Every part of these games stays with me. Always worth coming back to for another go. Also, love the new outro!
Fun Fact: If you eat one of those vultures that has fed on a guard, later on during the Sorrow fight there will be a ghost of the guard with a Vulture on him screaming "YOU ATE ME, YOU ATE ME!!!!" There is also an interesting codec call hinting at this if you call Para medic while you have the Vulture in your inventory.
Totally agree with the title of this video. I didn't play MGS3 until the mid 2010s and had such a fantastic time. Incredible boss fights. Looking forward to playing it again on the upcoming Vol 1 collection.
not only my favorite MGS game but also my favorite game of all time, MGS3 is Kojima at it's best, it can't get much better than this imo, and the best thing is that it's future proof, you can play it today and it still won't feel outdated
This formula is so fire. Any game with this level of survival mechanics would be fire in almost any setting. I wish there were more games like this. Having to hunt and mend my wounds on this level or even better would be fire in a modern game.
13:40 hey, hey, hey, the Colt M1911a1 is one of the best handguns ever made apart of the Colt Single Action Army. No wonder why he’s more interested in that than Eva
I haven't had enough time to watch this whole thing, and its 50 minutes long, and i'm here 24 minutes after posting but man... I just wanna say i love your work. Thank you for doing it. lol
I first played MGS3 at my friend's request over summer break during college. He lent me the original PS2 version, and the game was incredible. It got me hooked on Metal Gear right before MGS5 came out, which I played several hundred hours during the next semester. My roommate had a PS3, so I decided to get the HD collection and played MGS3 again. I couldn't believe I played the original after getting the new camera. I played through it again and then a 3rd time, going for the no kill run. It was still normal difficulty, but I felt so accomplished at the end when I took on The Boss without a gun. It's been several years now, but I feel the urge to play my all-time favorite video game again.
Volgan is the whole reason MGS exists in the first place. If it wasn't for the nuking of the Russian base, MGS 3 all the way to MGS 4 wouldn't have happened.
It is crazy MGS 3 is pretty much a godfather to todays milsim games that have started an appreciation of tactical and realistic genre of first person shooters such as Arma , Escape From Tarkov etc
MGS 3 game over screen is the coolest, while the OG is iconic, I love how its a time appropriate spin on the theme with the message slowly changing to time paradox as if its being played from the time period of 1 and 2
Metal Gear Solid on ps1 is one of the greatest games ever made. Easily top 5. Sadly, this game is NOT top 100. It actually sucked pretty bad. By comparison or on its own. I just can't fathom how people actually like it. And yes I beat it.
I just beat the HD version on my Vita and I'm gonna try again on Extreme. It is so fucking good! I love the actual story. It's the most concise and fun so far with just the right amount of "Oh shit" moments. That torture sequence was the most violent shit I ever saw as a 17 year old.
I remember reading in a magazine back in the day when this was being developed, I think it was FHM or Maxim in the video game section, about how each blade of grass was being made individually. Now, I can't help but think of the JonTron Flex Seal line, "But why would ya do that, why would ya do any of that?"
Ever since I first played Final Fantasy 7, I've always been hoping for other games that give me the same feeling of "holy shit, look at the unparalleled storytelling potential of this medium. There is nothing else in the world like this. No movie or TV show or novel can touch its audience the way a great video game does." Silent Hill 2 was one. Metal Gear Solid 3 is another. The Last of Us was the most recent game to floor me like that, and it came out ten fucking years ago. They're extremely rare, but in a way, I guess that just makes them even more special when they happen. Snake Eater is nothing short of a treasure. It should be in museums, and shot into space so aliens can find it after we go extinct. Kojima should be codified as a patron saint of his art form.
Weird. I was just thinking about MGS3 and you release a video on it. Damn straight it's the best in the series, the plot is great and the survival stealth gameplay in the jungle is fantastic. Plus it features a guy who shoots bees at you and a man so old he can die of old age in his fight, what's not to like?
Agreed. After getting enough money for Christmas Eve, which is the exact same day as my Birthday, I went out of my way to buy the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the PS3 at the store. I had a blast playing through Snake Eater. It's one of those games that feels like the developers had the most thought and care put into it. And it came out for the PS2 first no less. And for a game that came out in 2004, even 19 years later, it's still looks incredible even to this day.
Considering I never beat MGS3 as a kid but recently like a year ago now, I can see why people consider it to be one of the best games of all time, truly a masterpiece, I loved every second of it
Close second to phantom pain for me, but very very close, I feel phantom pain is what Kojima was trying to achieve with snake eater but technology held him back 👍
True, Snake eater's story is second to none within the MG series. But the Phantom Pain is by far leaps and bounds above any of the previous games tech/gameplay wise. And it still holds true today, the game even feels better now than it did in when it first released!!
I know I’ve been talking about this game for decades now. It’s my all time favorite and always will be my #1. I really hope they do the remake justice. They NEED to. Even if they do and it doesn’t sell good but it’s perfect, I’m happy. I can die happy
I really hope the remaster is good, and isnt just a cash grab. I played through the original when I was a child/preteen but I dont think I ever finished it. (but I've since watched hours of MGS lore and story videos so I'm pretty caught up.)
Good god Gman, you continue to make good content! I played this obsessively when I was in a fraternity (sort of, didn't make it long), and I ended up killing only 1 thing the entire game; the End's parrot, and let me tell you, I had so much fun! Keep it up boyo!
Definitely the best MGS title in the series. A simple yet entertaining and engaging prequel narrative, excellent stealth gameplay and design, high production values, and the right amount of Kojima’s style. MGS 3 proves that Kojima can be an amazing director when he isn’t trying to make things overly complex and ridiculous. I’d still say Death Stranding is his best work just for his audacity to make a game solely around the idea of traversal, but MGS 3 is definitely up there.
Remember, this was a PS2 game and the HD Collection is graphically downgraded in quite a few ways. Texture quality is lower for example, alpha textures for hair and foliage are missing, same for tree leaves and some visual effects like lighting quality and rain particles, broken cloth physics, etc.
@@jacksawack6724 He said that only the HD Collection added third person mode. That's also his main reason for recommending HD version over PS2. He never mentioned Subsistence. What cheap drugs are you on?

Learning that destroying the chopper at the beginning of the game would make the mountain section easier was really cool when I played the game back in the day. Death Stranding didn't grab my interest the way MGS games did. I hope Kojima's next game is something I will enjoy as much as I did the MGS series.
I started playing the Metal Gear Solid games just a few years ago and it is now easily my favorite franchise of pretty much anything. 3 is my favorite game of all time, and 2 is not far behind. I just wish 4 was easier to play, its the only one I have yet to play, and yes I did play peacewalker. Side note, futarasound productions makes some amazing MGS videos, specifically his "what even happens" series that gives you a VERY indepth look into the story and context of each of the games
It's rumoured that MGS4 will be in volume 2 of the Master Collection, whenever that releases. That could turn out to be bullshit though, I stress "rumoured".
@@yewtewbstew547 here's to hoping, I need more than just what watching gameplay can get me. Though the 6 hour long Mutahar video does a pretty solid job of giving you the run down, which I would hope is the case given it's 6 damn hours!
I miss the older generations of gaming. I never upgraded past the 360/PS3 era. It just got to a point where nothing new interested me anymore, and anytime I gave something new a chance it just wouldn't click.
I think it still holds up even today. I only ever play it on extreme, and destroying provisions warehouses to starve guards, then throwing poisonous or rotten food at them is so satisfying. Did you know, common food like bats and rats give very little stamina. But if you eat a lot of them, snake will start to like them, like an acquired taste, eventually this common food will give excellent stamina!
MGS 3 is still one of the all time greatest stealth action games ever made by Hideo Kojima, and when I play the master collection. You’re sure as hell I’m gonna replay it.
I played this game first when I was 10. It definitely helped shape the person I am now. It wasn't until The Phantom Pain was announced that I really went back and played through the other games. It's crazy to think that was 9 years ago now. MGS is for sure one of my favorite things ever.
When you mention the mountain section and the hind, one of my favorite little details a lot of players dont know is that you can actually destroy the chopper earlier in the game and it wont be in the level.
The end uses his parrot as a spotter, and when it finds you it will fly over your head tagging you so he can get a clean shot in, but it's just an animal like any other so you can tranq dart it and capture it, which will make the end argue with you but you can eat his little bird alive as well which makes him completely lose his cool and be more aggressive. There are so many details like that in the game like how destroying the helicopter early on as it's stationary in the first levels will make it not spawn in the mountains and instead be replaced by soldiers on jet powered flying units like in the end of the game. or how when you reach the cabin in the end of the mountain you can scope in and see some soldiers far away in the military base and even shoot them, and if you miss your shot you will have to fight against a helicopter miniboss(given you're not on european extreme), or how you can kill the vultures that have eaten off of the corpses of enemies and eat them, by proxy eating their corpses and receive codec calls about it and even having that person's ghost torment you in the sorrow fight. All that is just the tip of the iceberg you can spend the whole day talking about little details like this that the game is absolutely full of, it truly stands the test of time as one of the best games out there.

AS a kid in high school I knew how special this game was. I remember crying the first time I've beaten it and thought about that ending for weeks.
I absolutely LOVE the small ridiculous details in these games that you wouldn't ever think about doing or seen during your first few playthroughs.
Such as:
-Certain codec calls relating to something you've equipped such as the tuxedo, Raiden mask, crocodile cap, the dream sequence etc.
-When Snake loses his eye and you go in first person the game actually conpensates that and his vision is altered
-Wasps will attack you more aggressively if you wear black or red, but will leave you alone if you wear white.
-Vultures in the mountains will feed on dead bodies.
-If you use the fake death pill during The Boss fight, she'll know you're faking it and do a kick that wakes you up.
-The final duel with Ocelot has 4 different endings.
There are countless more but this game is insane for its time.
That's so cool. I only played through it once before when i was little. I'll have to play again.
additionally, if you eat a vulture that ate a guy, that guy will comment on you eating him during the sorrow
@@J_Pawsadas-PTSDEnjoyerlmao that's so obscure. I love it
I love the Major Tom codec call when he was talking about James Bond.
And if you eat one of those vultures that have eaten a dead soldier, you will be poisoned. Also, if you kill a soldier by cuting his throat with CQC during the fight with The Sorrow will appear with their head hanging and screaming in pain...
Revolver meowing randomly has always made me laugh. It makes sense but it’s so out there that it’s charming.
Revolver Meowzalot.
I will shamelessly admit that I cried at the end of this game. It still moves me. The worst part of it was that Snake had to be the one to do it. You couldn't refuse to shoot. The game just waited until you pressed the button. A simple design choice, sure, but it was powerful in its symbolism.
You cried because of a video game? You have the testosterone of a 4 year old.
No shame when it was the intended affect🤙🏾
Lol I was too stupid to keep track of the plot and still assumed The Boss joined Volgin just to be evil, even after shooting her down. Went a good 10 years of my life thinking, "Good, we finally got that traitor."
Bro me and my friends played the entire series together and even when I KNEW what was going to happen I STILL cried in front of my homies
Using CQC to beat the Boss at the end before her big reveal made feel like I was properly succeeding her right before that massive emotional gut punch
I still feel like it's implied big boss let you win at the end, just to finish her mission. She doesn't make it easy but she doesn't go 100%
The beautiful thing about that fight is that the game never tells you that you can counter her CQC moves, but somehow, through context clues and really great pacing of the animations, you can guess that hitting the melee button at the right time works.
Wait, what? You can counter the CQC-Moves on the Boss? Really? O_O
I know it was a port but still worth grabbing the collection (Comes with 2 and 3)
was actually how I experienced MGS3 for the first time lol amazing port
great port, i remember slashing necks by using the back touchpad. it was also my first time playing mgs3
Clutch!
The stomach growls from not eating also plays a role in gameplay because guards can hear it and reveal your location
Just remember that at the same time she was doing the voice of the Boss, that voice actress was also Pearl from Spongebob. You will never unhear it.

Goddamn its true i could've went my entire life not thinking that but now i do

Kazuhira Miller in Peacewalker and MGSV was voiced by the Medic from TF2.
Lori Alan voiced Diane Simmons from Family Guy, too. Come to think of it, the Boss does sound exactly like Simmons.

That was actually a game idea Kojima wanted to do if I’m not mistaken! But it fell through for one reason or another
2004 was such an amazing year for gaming. Hl2, GTA SA, Halo 2 Metroid Prime 2, MGS3, and many more amazing titles released this year.
This was the perfect time to be a gamer.
2004 was very good.
It's no 1998.
But it was one of the best.

What a year indeed.
Or you can shoot him in the face less than 1/3rd of the way into the game.
i shot him in warehouse just before the Fear fight
@@URangryX Which would be boring as hell.
You can also just wait and he dies of old age
0:07 The satisfaction that's comes from taking down an enemy with CQC in MGS3/4 still sticks with me to this day. I still remember how good that final thud felt the first few times I did it in MGS3. Such a small detail added so much to that mechanic. The developers definitely got it right.
I had a very important teacher in my life who physically resembled The Boss when I was 12 years old. I owe a lot of who I am as a person to her. Tragically, she died of cancer before I could thank her for all that she did for me. MGS3 was the first game I played right after her death. Mgs3 was my Bible when I was 14-16. I played it countless times, absolute masterpiece.
Same ran through it >5 times

Plus you could move whilst crouching, something you couldn’t do before.
only problem was the horrible FPS sadly. Game did not run that well
Im sorry you had to play it that way
@@1324Potato idk if you're trying to be an ass since it's obvious from my comment that I enjoyed it, but I think the 3DS one is genuinely the best experience of this game, even if the resolution/fps isn't the greatest

This game is timeless. I still remember getting it as a little kid for Christmas. Awesome times.

This formula is so fire. Any game with this level of survival mechanics would be fire in almost any setting. I wish there were more games like this. Having to hunt and mend my wounds on this level or even better would be fire in a modern game.

I remember The Sorrow's stage. I couldn't figure it out. I just started pressing buttons on the game over screen and my items switched. Aha
It is crazy MGS 3 is pretty much a godfather to todays milsim games that have started an appreciation of tactical and realistic genre of first person shooters such as Arma , Escape From Tarkov etc
Tf? MGS is not a milsim or tactical shooter. Milsims and tactical shooters existed way before metal gear even came to console.
MGS 3 game over screen is the coolest, while the OG is iconic, I love how its a time appropriate spin on the theme with the message slowly changing to time paradox as if its being played from the time period of 1 and 2

I just beat the HD version on my Vita and I'm gonna try again on Extreme. It is so fucking good! I love the actual story. It's the most concise and fun so far with just the right amount of "Oh shit" moments. That torture sequence was the most violent shit I ever saw as a 17 year old.
Thanks Gman. As snake told ocelot.. "You're pretty good"
I remember reading in a magazine back in the day when this was being developed, I think it was FHM or Maxim in the video game section, about how each blade of grass was being made individually. Now, I can't help but think of the JonTron Flex Seal line, "But why would ya do that, why would ya do any of that?"
This is my favorite game of all time. I'm very happy they finally decided to port it over to PC.

True, Snake eater's story is second to none within the MG series. But the Phantom Pain is by far leaps and bounds above any of the previous games tech/gameplay wise. And it still holds true today, the game even feels better now than it did in when it first released!!

By the end of my first play though i was in tears, tears from experiencing a real masterpiece of a game.
Remember, this was a PS2 game and the HD Collection is graphically downgraded in quite a few ways. Texture quality is lower for example, alpha textures for hair and foliage are missing, same for tree leaves and some visual effects like lighting quality and rain particles, broken cloth physics, etc.

Even though this entire series can be weird, insane and extremely complicated it's one of the few video games series I would call a "masterpiece".
31:11 I'm genuinely impressed with Gman for taking this long to ever mention DSP in this video, lol.
