      The B350 is very easy to land. It has low pitch stops that prevent the propellers to go into fine pitch when you retard the throttles in the flare. Only after a couple of seconds on the ground the low pitch stop is released.
      This video shows how the low pitch stops are released with a timer after landing:
      ruclips.net/video/TMMQ6Cr3a-s/видео.htmlsi=zPAHb0kygEP81ev-&t=209
      So it does not produce much drag when you pull back the power on the flare. Makes the landing easy. Just glides in...

    One question for my personal understanding: why did you not choose the route via south america (Brazil) to northern africa (e.g. Liberia, Sierra Leone) directly ? Is it too dangerous as the countries are unstable ? The distance does not seem much longer than from Reykjavik to Belfast at first glance

    • @GuidoWarnecke

      Hi David,
      if you look at the earth as a globe, you will see that the distance flying via the. North is actually shorter. Google: great Circle.
      Furthermore there is a very long overwater route from West Africa to Brazil. also the cost for a flight would be much higher (fees and fuel).

I figure quite old avionics and also FSX compatible.

    That was a long ferry flight Guido. Love the slide shows.
    I have a question. When the Aer Lingus ATR 700 takes off from Donegal airport heading South on runway 21 bound for Dublin airport, it then banks to the right over the coast and heads back towards the airport, then banks to the right again and heads south for Dublin airport. Why does it not climb to its cruising altitude and fly direct from the runway towards Dublin airport?

    • @GuidoWarnecke
      @GuidoWarnecke  9 месяцев назад +1

      I have not been to Donegal yet. I checked the approach charts for you. There is no published SID Standard Instrument Departure established at that airport.
      The IFR route starts at the CFN VOR, which is located at the airport and the route continues from there to a waypoint called TADEX.
      So the only explanation is that at ATR does not have GPS/RNAV capabilities (at least not certified) and that the crew need to turn right over the sea and from there continue right turns to end up over the airport (the CFN VOR) again and track from there the airway route to Dublin.
      Send me an email via my web site www.guido-warnecke.com and I will send you the route map.

    Hello Guido! It has been awhile since I've commented; maybe like 2010 or so. A lot has changed since then. I retired from the service, got my flight ratings, did 1.5 years in the regional airlines, flew for a bit over 3 years as a contractor overseas, and have now been flying for a family in Telluride Colorado. Most of my time is in B350s.
    It was fun to watch this ferry flight coming to an end.
    A few questions--
    For these international flights, do you use a planning/expediting service to plan those and do all of your clearances? Or, just plan that yourself?
    I didn't catch where you originated at. How many days did you take for this whole reposition flight?
    Do you wear a survival suit when over the ocean?
    Safe flying

    Guido, I have a question on a procedure you used which I’m not familiar with as a controller in the UK. You were cleared to FL40 and for the RNAV approach in the same instruction. At what point to you switch altimeter setting from standard to QNH? Do you wait until the transition altitude/level even though that may come after commencement of the approach procedure? Thank you!

    • @GuidoWarnecke
      @GuidoWarnecke  9 месяцев назад

      Important is to comply with the numbers on the approach plate (which is altitude). This is important for obstacle clearance.
      Many operators set QNH in the descent when passing 10,000ft, mostly because of the reason that the pilot will not forget to set the QNH.
      At low pressure situations, your altimeter will show too high, and that will be VERY critical on an instrument approach in bad weather.
      In a lot of countries, ATC gives you the QNH with the approach clearance, just as a reminder. They do not do this in the USA. Furthermore, you do a QNH check on the approach. At a published point and altitude you crosscheck the altitude.

    Hi Captain, I have been commenting on other channels that the Avionics are not using all the technologies that are available since some years ago.
    "Small" airplanes, from what I have seen, use more often those technologies to facilitate Pilots work.
    In this case, screen checklists is one example. Touch screens are also more used. I could give more examples, but what is more weird for me is the lack of certain voice alerts that could help the pilots in stressful situations.
    I give one example that no one has explained to me why it is not possible. I talk about two aircraft at the collision path in an airport. Why GPS data not give the alert to both aircraft? GPS devices nowadays give us very accurate positions, about a few meters.
    What am I missing here?
    Thks Captain

    • @GuidoWarnecke
      @GuidoWarnecke  8 месяцев назад

      Hi Luis,
      there is certainly room for improvement in voice controls and voice warnings in aircraft.
      Example: in many airplanes the landing gear warning is just a "horn" but no clear voice warning. Modern aircraft use a GPWS mode >>>TOO LOW GEAR>TRAFFIC TRAFFIC>TCAS CLIMB>TCAS DESCENT

    • @luisreis3202
      @luisreis3202 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@GuidoWarnecke , thks Captain for your very clear explanation about TCAS, but I was thinking more at runways incursions. Sorry for my English.
      Sometimes I see videos of aircraft entering at the wrong runway when another plane is already there. I was thinking of a visible chart inside the aircraft with the (GPS ?) positions of the other aircraft nearby.
